BFI Distribution has acquired UK-Ireland distribution rights to Moin Hussain’s feature debut Sky Peals.
BFI Distribution acquired the film from Bankside Films, and will release it theatrically in the UK and Ireland on August 9.
The film follows a man working nightshifts at a motorway service station, who tries to piece together a picture of his recently deceased father, from whom he had been estranged.

Matt Smith (Last Night in Soho) and Morfydd Clark (Saint Maud) star in the supernatural horror film Starve Acre, which is coming our way from BAFTA-nominated Apostasy creator Daniel Kokotajlo. We don’t know exactly when the movie is going to be released, but The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Starve Acre just secured multiple distribution deals. Brainstorm Media will be releasing the film in North America, while BFI Distribution will be bringing it to the U.K. and Ireland. Protagonist Pictures has closed a U.K. and Ireland distribution deal with BFI Distribution on the debut feature from Dionne Edwards, “Pretty Red Dress,” it was announced Tuesday by CEO Dave Bishop. Protagonist is handling worldwide sales on the critically lauded title and will continue sales at the ongoing American Film Market.
“Pretty Red Dress,” which world premiered at the BFI London Film Festival, will receive its market premiere at AFM screening for world buyers on Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. at the AMC Broadway.
The film stars Natey Jones, singer Alexandra Burke, and new talent Temilola Olatunbosun in the story of a south London family and how their lives revolve around one red dress.
The film is produced by Georgia Goggin for the U.K.’s Teng Teng Films, with the support of the BFI, which awarded National Lottery funding, and BBC Film, in association with Magellanic Media Limited and Great Point Media.

This week, Doctor Who continued what may be the running theme of series eight: what makes Doctor Who Doctor Who. I’m not sure if that should be a statement or a question or both. Last week, the philosophical concern with his identity was a sort of “Ship of Theseus” paradox regarding his physical regenerations. Is he the same if so much of him is different? This time it’s the question of whether or not he’s good. And are any soldiers good, if they’ve killed? Is he any better than a Dalek if his hatred of them is as powerful an influence on one of them as is their intrinsic hatred of everything else? The episode, “Into the Dalek,” made me wonder about Peter Capaldi‘s casting and whether it is okay or expected that we think of the actor’s past work while watching this.
