Edin Dzeko scored twice and Yaya Toure bagged a third as Manchester City moved to within three points of Premier League leaders Chelsea by ruthlessly disposing of neighbours United.
Dzeko put the visitors in front after less than fifty seconds with a simple tap in and completed his brace after half time after running into the United box unmarked to convert Samir Nasri’s cross.
And Toure added the gloss his side’s performance deserved on 90 minutes with a drive into the bottom corner as the champions crashed to their second defeat of the season to their derby rivals.
United, struggling under new manager David Moyes, were subjected to another sobering evening at Old Trafford less than a fortnight on from their heavy home defeat to Liverpool.
And things weren’t much better here as their once ‘noisy neighbours’ proved the balance in power has well and truly shifted in Manchester.

A late double was enough to seal all three points for West Ham as they defeated Norwich City in an important relegation clash at Upton Park.
Collins’ header six minutes from time gave the Hammers the lead and Mohamed Diame sealed the victory with a deflected finish on the counter-attack.
Norwich City got the games opening chance after eight minutes when Gary Hooper rose to meet Nathan Redmond’s cross and headed towards goal, forcing a brilliant save from Adrian.
The keeper was at it again shortly after when Redmond chipped a ball over the top to Robert Snodgrass but he was thwarted by the heroics of Adrian, desperate to keep a fourth consecutive clean sheet.

The Coen Brothers movie is immersed in the folk scene of the early 60s in Greenwich Village, where boho survivors still recall the glory days – and lament a few of the film's flaws
Fifty years ago, the tenements, bars and coffee houses of Greenwich Village were the centre of a hip, bohemian society of beatniks and folkniks. That society has long dispersed, most of its landmarks erased by the onslaught of chain stores and fast food outlets. But enough of the Village remains intact that, by squinting in the Arctic freeze last week, it was almost possible to picture a 21-year-old Bob Dylan with his girlfriend, Suze Rotolo, braced against the cold in February 1963 for the covershot of the great Freewheelin' Bob Dylan acoustic LP.
It's not unusual to see couples re-enacting that pose on the corner of West 4th and Jones Street, says Mark Sebastian, a neighbourhood activist, musician...

Tottenham Hotspur survived early pressure in the first half to take a much-needed home victory, as the honeymoon period of new boss Tim Sherwood continues in earnest in London
Second-half strikes from summer singing Christian Eriksen and Canada-bound substitute Jermaine Defoe helped the London outfit to a victory that moves them into fifth place, a point above Liverpool, who play tomorrow
Spurs survived a mountain of early pressure, including a disastrous early penalty miss by Jason Puncheon, after Mousa Dembélé had clumsily fouled Palace striker Maruane Chamakh.
Spurs settled in the second half, and Christian Eriksen struck on 50 minutes with a crisp left-foot shot from the centre of the box into the top left-hand corner of the goal, after a nod on from Emmanuel Adebayor
Cue Canada-bound Jermaine Defoe, who was brought on for Soldado on 58 minutes, and the former England international delivered...

Scott Dann cancelled out Alvaro Negredo’s 15th goal of the season as Blackburn Rovers battled back and held 2011 winners Manchester City in the first Fa Cup third round tie.
Championship club Blackburn will have to meet their Northwest rivals again at the Etihad in ten days’ time thanks to a goal from their captain. Dedryck Boyata saw red for City late on.
This was something of a slow burner, but Gary Bowyer’s Rovers contained the illustrious City names by flooding midfield. A couple of Dann headers from set pieces that went straight at Costel Pantilimon were all the hosts could muster in the opening half hour.
Paul Robinson, back in the Blackburn goal after over a year out, had little to do at first. He held a low Fernandinho effort and came smartly off...

Chelsea vs Southampton Date – Sunday 1st December
Venue – Stamford Bridge
Kick Off – 16.10pm
Referee – Michael Oliver
It’s 3rd vs 5th at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, with both Chelsea and Southampton knowing that victory may see them rise to 2nd place if the weekend results fall their way.
Team News
Chelsea will be without Samuel Eto’o, who limped out of the midweek Champions League defeat to Basle, while David Luiz is not expected to be risked by Jose Mourinho, as he attempts to regain full fitness. Fernando Torres came on for Eto’o against Basle, and is expected to start against Southampton, with Demba Ba as Mourinho’s only other recognized striker in the squad.
With 3 games in a week, Mourinho may be tempted to restore Ashley Cole to the starting line up following his injury absence, although Azpilicueta has performed well in recent weeks as a makeshift left back.

As Premier League referee Michael Oliver signalled for the end of play on Saturday afternoon, his whistle blew on Manchester United’s worst start to a season since 1989.
Then, the Red Devils accumulated just seven points from their first six games three years into Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign, form which nearly led to the now-legendary boss getting the axe.
It was in that same campaign that the now-infamous bed sheet was unveiled at Old Trafford, reading: “Three Years of Excuses and It’s Still Crap. Ta Ra Fergie.”
And, as West Brom’s Saido Berahino saw his low strike nestle in the bottom corner of David de Gea’s net at the weekend, you feared the same fate might have awaited David Moyes.
As I sat in the press box, the message coming from the travelling Albion fans to my right directed at Moyes was aubible...

A cold day at Villa Park was in no way warmed by the football on show. Manchester City claimed the all important three points against Aston Villa thanks to a goal from Joleon Lescott, but it was ultimately a game that will be best forgotten by players and fans alike. An important win regardless though as it puts the Sky Blues back at the top of table. A terrible performance by the hosts though – they need to improve considerably and fast too if they want to stay clear from the drop zone.
Hardly a ‘must watch’ game by anyone’s standards – Manchester City haven’t looked as irresistible as they did in the first half of the season since, well, the first half of the season. That’s not to say Roberto Mancini’s men have been bad though, and City fans would undoubtedly be spurred on by the comfortable...

Swansea City recorded a historic victory against their equally skilled ball playing counterparts, Arsenal, in a fantastic fixture at the Liberty Stadium this afternoon.
Thierry Henry‘s potential return to Premier League action was not the only highly anticipated aspect of this game, with many looking forward to the prospect of two of the most effective passing teams in the league locking horns to see who were the true pass masters.
The visitors didn’t take long in stamping their authority on the game with Robin van Persie putting Arsenal ahead after just four minutes. Andrey Arshavin’s perfectly weighted pass found the Premier League’s top scorer, who shrugged off the best efforts of Steven Caulker to dismantle his attack on goal, to fire past Michel Vorm in the Swansea goal.
Van Persie wasn’t finished their either as he appeared to be a threat to the scoreline with every attack he made,...

Young referee Michael Oliver shaped an unsurprisingly tight affair that finished 1-1 thanks to a last gasp equaliser for Queen’s Park Rangers, courtesy of an own goal by Aston Villa defender Richard Dunne. Barry Bannan had put the visitors ahead by converting a penalty after a soft challenge by Armand Traore who was later dismissed. It was perhaps justice then, that 10 man Qpr managed to grind out a deserved point.
All that was missing from a near-perfect start to the season was a home win for newly revitalised Queen’s Park Rangers, who welcomed Aston Villa to Loftus Road – where the Hoops have yet to score a single goal this season. This unfortunate record looked likely to end sooner rather than later though as Qpr had been looking very impressive with Neil Warnock seeming able to gel his new look squad after some lavish but intelligent summer spending. Like the vagrant at a bus stop that won’t leave you alone, here I am to give you my Premiership round up for week four of the Barclay’s Premier League. I feel like this should be followed by a dramatic orchestral score, alas, this is a single media experience.
Following a brief break in play for international fixtures, Liverpool looked to maintain their bright start to the season away from home to Stoke City.
With several years of careful buying, dogged support and astute management from Tony Pulis, the Potters have firmly established themselves as a solid top flight team. Having spent well on players such as Jonathan Woodgate, Wilson Palacios and Peter Crouch, they have improved a side that reached the Fa Cup final last season and already boasts the likes of Ryan Shawcross, Kenwyene Jones and Jermaine Pennant.
Much to the disappointment of the travelling Merseysiders on Saturday afternoon,...
