Ted Cruz has spent September praising the expansion of Interstate 27 into a “Ports-to-Plains” corridor that will run vertically through Texas. He’s even gone so far as to say he “led” the effort to fund the project, both in a Sept. 1 address at Texas Tech University — video of which was obtained by Heartland Signal — and in a press notice released last Friday.
The only issue is that Cruz actually voted against the bill that funded the project.
The project was funded earlier this year through the omnibus appropriations bill, which...

The Senate passed legislation to extend health and disability benefits to millions of veterans exposed to toxic burn pits in Iraq, Afghanistan and other areas of military engagement.
The 86-11 vote came after Republicans blocked the legislation last week, with a number of the lawmakers having previously supported it when it came before the Senate in June.
Jon Stewart, a longtime advocate for the veterans, blasted the opposition, speaking at rallies on Capitol Hill multiple times over the past week and making a series of media appearances on network Sunday shows, Fox News and Newsmax. Stewart was in the chamber for the Senate vote, and hugged veterans after it passed.
The bill, the Honoring Our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act (or the Pact Act), is designed to address the inability of veterans to access healthcare as they reported a range of illnesses. It now goes to President Joe Biden for signing.

Less than 24 hours after a report indicated that Donald Trump has soured on Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.), the Senate candidate whom he endorsed last year, Brooks released a campaign ad that doubles as a pledge of fealty to the former president and his lies about the 2020 election.
The ex-president is considering pulling his endorsement, the Washington Examiner reported Wednesday. “Mo Brooks is disappointing,” Trump told the publication during a phone interview earlier this week. “I’m determining right now, has Mo Brooks — has he changed?”

The AFL-CIO’s Department for Professional Employees is urging Congress to increase federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to $565 million in fiscal year 2022 and the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities to $201 million each – funding levels that were passed by the House of Representatives in July.
“This is a critical moment for helping ensure that creative professionals can get back to work in the wake of the economic devastation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic,” Dpe president Jennifer Dorning said in a letter to the chairs, vice chairs and ranking members of the Senate and House appropriations committees. “The Cares Act and American Rescue Plan helped creative professionals get through the worst of the pandemic and allowed them to start to get back on stage and return to sets, but the reality is that industry employment remains below pre-pandemic levels. In a nighttime session, the U.S. Senate voted 69-28 tonight to pass a stopgap funding bill to keep the federal government solvent through Feb. 18. It also included $7 billion in aid to Afghan evacuees, according to the Washington Post.
The measure was approved by the House earlier in the day and will now go to President Biden for signature. The government’s funding had been set to expire Saturday morning.
Among the sticking points in the Senate had been Biden’s vaccine mandate for large businesses and federal employees. The impasse was breached when a group of Republican Senators agreed to move forward if Democrats would allow the body to take a simple majority vote on an amendment to defund the mandate. The vote moved forward and the amendment was defeated 48-50.
The last time the federal government shut down was in 2018-2019 over funding for the U.S.-Mexico border wall.

Doug Schoen, a Democratic political strategist and pollster, has joined Newsmax TV as an analyst.
Schoen will be a regular on the outlet, giving analysis on Joe Biden’s administration.
Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy said in a statement, “Doug is a Democrat who plays it fair and square and calls it as he sees it. Since our founding over two decades ago, Newsmax has striven to give our readers and viewers ‘both sides’ and we’re now lucky to have one of the very best joining our roster.”
Since the election, the right-leaning outlet has seen its viewership climb, as it has been a platform for defenders of President Donald Trump to advance unfounded claims of election fraud. Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy has defended the network’s coverage as one that captures all points of view.
In December, Newsmax aired a clarification about election systems company Smartmatic, after the company...

Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), who was sworn in as an “impartial juror” for President Trump’s impeachment trial, appeared on ABC’s This Week on Sunday and ho-hummed the subject of Trump’s solicitation of foreign election interference.
Host George Stephanopoulos asked Shelby: “Do you think it was proper for the president to solicit foreign interference in our election?”
Shelby first responded by saying that he doesn’t know if Trump soliciting foreign interference “has been actually proven.”
To this, Stephanopoulos rightly pointed out that the entire world watched Trump,...

With Friday’s deadline approaching, acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney hit the Sunday morning news shows to let the American people know that the nonsensical and hurtful government shutdown they just endured might be back for another round.
Mulvaney told Chuck Todd on NBC’s Meet the Press that “you absolutely cannot” rule out another government shutdown this week, adding, “and you cannot take $5.7 [billion] off the table” for Trump’s wall. But he did signal that those dollars are up for negotiations: “But if you end up someplace in the middle,...

The Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court battle has turned into one of the most contentious nominations in our nation’s history. President Trump’s nominee has been accused of past sexual assaults and of being dishonest before the Senate.
Despite testimony by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, Kavanaugh’s nomination cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee on a party-line vote on September 28th. Following an unaccountably incomplete investigation by the FBI, Kavanaugh’s nomination cleared a key procedural hurdle, setting up a final vote this weekend.

A jury on Wednesday convicted a Virginia woman who laughed during Jeff Sessions’ confirmation hearing of disorderly conduct.
Desiree A. Fairooz, a Code Pink protester, was removed from the Jan. 10 hearing after she laughed when Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) stated that Sessions has an “extensive record of treating all Americans equally under the law.” The jury on Wednesday also found guilty her parading or demonstrating on Capitol grounds, according to the New York Times.
Fiarooz told the Times that she was “really disappointed,” but that it was too early to discuss a possible appeal.
Two other Code Pink protesters were also convicted Wednesday.

Results are still pouring in, and probably will be for the next 24 hours, but the writing on the wall for Democrats on Tuesday night (November 2) is clear: A change is gonna come.
Nearly two years after President Barack Obama swept into power on a wave of excitement and promises of change that helped Democrats gain control of the White House and both houses of Congress in a rare political hat trick, voters gave the president's ambitious agenda a harsh rebuke in the midterm elections. According to the Huffington Post, exit polls showed that voters were very worried about the economy and not happy with the way Obama and Congress had handled the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, leading many to vote for Republicans...
