Childish Gambino is going out with a flourish. During a Gilga Radio Instagram livestream on Sunday (April 14th), the musical alter ego of Donald Glover confirmed he will be releasing a “finished” version of his 2020 album, 3.15.20, under the title Atavista.
As a follow-up, Gambino will release Bando Stone & The New World, a brand new project doubling as the soundtrack for his upcoming film of the same name. “We’re releasing Atavista, but after that, there’s the final Childish Gambino album — a soundtrack for the fans,” he said.
While the rapper-singer didn’t reveal a release date for either album, he did say a music video for “Little Foot Big Foot” (originally titled “35.31”) directed by longtime collaborator Hiro Murai is coming in “the next couple weeks.”
Gambino also played a few previously unreleased tracks, including “Human Sacrifice” and the aforementioned “Little Foot Big Foot” featuring Atlanta rapper Young Nudy. Listen...

Crafted by Glover and Francesca Sloane, the show’s debut season stretches across eight episodes, centering on John and Jane Smith, secret agents who pose as a married couple while working for a shadowy corporation. Its blend of comedy and drama offered the potential to categorize it in either genre for awards consideration.

There’s still a few months until Season 3 of The Bear debuts, but Disney is holding audiences over with a clip from the upcoming installment.
The clip, revealed during Disney’s shareholder meeting on Wednesday, features Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) getting a surprise from two of his employees, Neil and Ted Fak (Matty Matheson and Ricky Staffieri).
After a bit of shouting, the pair finally get Carmy into the restaurant’s back office to see they’ve posted photos of every major food critic on the wall. Likely so that all the employees will know as soon as one of them steps foot inside the establishment.
Watch the clip below.

When Mr. & Mrs. Smith was announced as a TV series for Prime Video in 2021, there were plenty of reasons to be skeptical about the project.
It was based on a movie of the same name that did reasonably well but isn't especially well-remembered.
The announced starring duo of Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge was intriguing, especially considering that both performers were credited as creators.
Both had a history of starring in and creating successful series, including Glover with Atlanta and Waller-Bridge with Fleabag. Plus, Waller-Bridge served as the showrunner in the first season of Killing Eve, another prestige series about an assassin.
But then Waller-Bridge dropped out of the project just a few months after it was announced due to "creative differences," with Maya Erskine replacing her as the show's female lead. Glover and Francesca Sloane are credited as the co-creators.
Beyond that, the series had its premiere delayed repeatedly,...

As a followup to Atlanta and Swarm, Donald Glover adapting Doug Liman’s entertaining 2005 spy caper Mr. and Mrs. Smith for a television format is an unlikely choice. That said, there’s a certain timeliness to the premise of a married spy couple trying to survive missions and each other, ideally suited for every generation.
This iteration, created by Glover and Francesca Sloane, is a strictly millennial-geared update with a progressive heart and more romantic soul to round out its stealthy concept. Whereas this Glover and Maya Erskine-starring update likely won’t spur a pop culture impact as significant as the formerly-renowned Brangelina film did, Mr. and Mrs. Smith is a sizably entertaining and meditative spy thriller fit for a millennial demographic.
Set in bustling NYC, two stranger spies, John (Glover) and Jane Smith (Erskine), are interviewed for a potential spy gig by a mysterious agency they only speak to via texts.

Even by the standards of a Hollywood ecosystem where everything is IP, and IP is everything, the idea of adapting a TV show from Mr. & Mrs. Smith seemed odd. The 2005 action-comedy exists in the pop-culture memory less as a movie (though it’s excellent) than as the origin story of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s relationship. Remaking it without them would be like rebooting Top Gun without Tom Cruise,...

After scoring big at such recent award shows as the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards, FX’s The Bear has continued down the path of awards glory, claiming six statuettes at the 2023 Primetime Emmys.
At the ceremony, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Monday night, the beloved Chicago restaurant-world comedy scored the prizes for Outstanding Comedy Series, Comedy Actor (Jeremy Allen White), Comedy Supporting Actress (Ayo Edebiri) and Comedy Supporting Actor (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), as well as the awards for Comedy Writing and Directing. With creator Christopher Storer, the recipient of the latter two awards, absent from tonight’s ceremony, EP-actor (and real-world chef) Matty Matheson stepped up to accept the Comedy Series prize on behalf of the team.
“What’s good? I just want to thank restaurants as a whole, hospitality as a whole,” said Matheson, before being kissed passionately on the mouth by excited co-star Moss-Bachrach.

The series, which was created by Christopher Storer, stars Jeremy Allen White as Carmy Berzatto, also stars Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Abby Elliott, Lionel Boyce and Liza Colón-Zayas. Matty Matheson was also upped for season 2, while Edwin Lee Gibson, Corey Hendrix, Oliver Platt, Jon Bernthal, José Cervantes, Richard Esteras, Carmen Christopher, Chris Witaske, Joel McHale, Jamie Lee Curtis, Gillian Jacobs, Robert Townsend, Molly Gordon, Alex Moffat, Ricky Staffieri, Mitra Jouhari and Maura Kidwell recur.
The first season of The Bear follows Carmy, a young chef from the fine-dining world who comes home to Chicago to run his family sandwich shop after his brother’s suicide.

I was born in Japan and I was raised in the middle of Tokyo. So, I was actually a city boy. I think the film that really got me was probably “Jurassic Park” (1993). I was like only five years old or something like that.

Disney Entertainment TV is set to reinstate overall deals for creatives that were suspended during the WGA strike as early as Thursday, TheWrap has learned.
In mid-September, the company paused overall and first look deals across its subsidiaries, with Billy Porter, Yara Shahidi, Gina Rodriguez, “This Is Us” alum Milo Ventimiglia and Mandy Moore, “Rebel” executive producer Marc Webb, “The Bear” EP Hiro Murai and FX Productions’ Stacey Sher among those impacted.
While Disney Entertainment TV had paused the deals, the studio planned to continue paying for the deals in order to provide salaries for assistants through the end of 2023, as well as cover salaries for development executives through the first week of October 2023, an individual with knowledge of the decision told TheWrap at the time.

Apple has become the latest entertainment company to suspend additional overall and first-look deals this month as the WGA strike is getting past the four-and-a-half-month mark.
As has been the case with the other recent suspensions at Disney, NBCUniversal, Warner Bros. TV and CBS Studios, impacted are non-writing producers who are not currently rendering services due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. I hear the handful of pacts that are being suspended include those for Natalie Portman’s MountainA, the company she formed with producer Sophie Mas, and Adam McKay’s Hyperobject Industries. A rep for Apple declined comment.
A number of the streamer’s high-profile deals with non-writing producers are still ongoing as they are working on projects, including Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman’s Playtone, which is behind the upcoming Apple series Masters of the Air. Martin Scorsese, who signed a film and TV deal with...

Hulu has revealed premiere viewership details for The Bear Season 2, and the series has cooked up some solid numbers for the streaming service.
FX revealed Tuesday that the Jeremy Allen White drama surged 70% in total hours streamed over the first season after the first four days of viewing.
Additionally, the Season 2 bow was the most-watched premiere of any FX series on Hulu.
Unfortunately, FX and Hulu don't typically reveal raw viewership statistics, but the way the numbers are spinned certainly sounds impressive.
There were many concerns that the show would be wasted by premiering all episodes at once, but it seems the show is off to a great start.
Far too often, binge-release shows dominate the competition for about a week, but there's a good chance The Bear will showcase some staying power.

R.E.M. has teamed up with “The Bear” on a full-length music video for “Strange Currencies (Remix).”
The four-minute video combines footage from “Road Movie,” which documents the alternative rock band’s 1995 tour, with exclusive clips and behind-the-scenes footage of the FX series’ second season, which premiered June 22 on Hulu.
Released as the third single on the album “Monster” in 1995, “Strange Currencies” follows a lovelorn protagonist who yearns to win over a mysterious crush. The song was a Top 10 hit in the UK, a Top 20 hit in Canada, and peaked at No. 8 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart.
The remix, which was featured prominently in the official Season 2 trailer on May 15, first appeared on 2019’s “Monster (25th Anniversary Edition),” where the band’s longtime producer Scott Litt revisited the best-selling 1994 album, offering a fresh perspective on each track.

This article contains spoilers for the series finale of "Barry."
Stephen Root has worked with some fantastic filmmakers over the course of his impressive, decades-spanning career. When he's not playing mercenary-turned-con man Monroe Fuches on "Barry" — a role he said goodbye to in last night's cutting series finale — he's giving great performances as an indispensable character actor under the direction of people like Ava DuVernay, Mike Judge, Clint Eastwood, Jordan Peele, and the Joel and Ethan Coen. After four masterful seasons of "Barry," though, it doesn't seem unreasonable to add first-time filmmaker Bill Hader to that list, as the comedian, actor, and writer blew audiences away every time he stepped behind the camera for the HBO series.

“I feel like what I wish I’d known was that I didn’t have to know everything,” says “Atlanta” director Hiro Murai about the wisdom he wished he had before stepping behind the camera for the first time. “I think you really get hung up when you’re coming in, feeling insecure about what you don’t know,” but “any work that’s been good has come out of exploration and discovery.” We talked to Murai as part of our “Meet the Experts” TV directors panel along with Marlee Matlin (“Accused”), Alex Vietmeier (“Late Night with Seth Meyers”) and Owen Harris (“Mrs. Davis”). “The first narrative anything I ever directed was the pilot for ‘Atlanta.’ And so the whole cast and crew that came together for it, a lot of us, it was our first TV experience,” remembers “Atlanta” director and producer Hiro Murai. “Finishing the show this season really felt like the senior year of high school where we just kind of watched each other grow up and we’re kind of putting a bow on this four-season experience that we got to go through together.” We talked with Murai as part of our “Meet the Experts” TV directors panel. FX has been announcing new information for the slate of their benchmark TV shows today. Earlier, news broke that Archer will return for season 14, which will also be its final season. It joins the sixteenth season of their legacy hit, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Now, the trailer for season two of their award-winning show The Bear makes its debut, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, the new season may have a newer focus, but it will retain the intensity that the show is known for.
The official synopsis for the second season of FX’s The Bear reads,
Season two follows Carmy, Sydney, and Richie as they work to transform their grimy sandwich joint into a next-level spot. As they strip the restaurant down to its bones, the crew undertakes transformational journeys of their own, each forced to confront the past and reckon with who they want to be in the future.

The trailer for season two of The Bear looks like it will trade the white-knuckle intensity of running a restaurant kitchen for … the white-knuckle intensity of trying to open a restaurant on a limited timetable.
The FX-produced Hulu series, whose second season premieres June 22, will pick up where the first one ended, following Carmy’s (Jeremy Allen White) decision to close his family’s Italian beef joint in Chicago and open a new restaurant. He, Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) and Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) set a six-month timetable to open the doors of the new establishment, which means everything from menu planning to dealing with city permitting bureaucracy.

The critically acclaimed original series follows Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), Sydney Adamu (Ayo Edebiri) and Richard "Richie" Jerimovich (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they work to transform their grimy sandwich joint into a next-level spot.
As they strip the restaurant down to its bones, the crew undertakes transformational journeys of their own, each forced to confront the past and reckon with who they want to be in the future.
"Of course, it turns out the only thing harder than running a restaurant is opening a new one, and the team must juggle the insane bureaucracy of permits and contractors with the beauty and creative agony of menu planning," FX teases.
"The transition brings a newfound focus on hospitality as well."

Are you ready for another helping of The Bear?
FX announced Monday that the critically acclaimed, award-winning hit series is set to premiere its hotly-anticipated second season Thursday, June 22, exclusively on Hulu.
While many networks are shifting to weekly releases due to the ongoing Hollywood writers strike, The Bear will be serving up its entire second season on day one.
Pretty cool, right?
Some shows benefit from the weekly release to keep the momentum going, but it's hard to imagine people not wanting to devour every episode in one sitting.
What's more, The Bear Season 2 will consist of 10 episodes.
The series will be available on Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ in all other territories at a later date.
