British singer Rita Ora has big shoes (or is that high heels?) to fill as she steps in for Nicole Scherzinger on the hit celebrity-in-disguise guessing game. (The regular panelist is away this season to star in the London production of Sunset Boulevard.) But Ora is up to the task because she’s done this before…on the U.K. version of The Masked Singer. “She’s a dream,” says executive producer James Breen. “She brings a singer’s ear, but she’s also very smart on the clues. It was hard to surprise her, but we did. One of her idols turned out to be under the mask this season, and it was a really incredible moment to see her face when it came off.” (Credit: Michael Becker / Fox) Ora will be deciphering clues along with returning panelists Robin Thicke, Ken Jeong, and Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg (plus host Nick Cannon...

The newest surprise at Fox’s “Masked Singer” isn’t tied to an appearance by a mysterious celebrity.
On Wednesday night, the popular reality-competition program will bring an advertiser into its format for the first time since launching in 2019. From the opening shot to the end of the contest, “Singer” will utilize characters and other trappings from Universal’s new “Trolls Band Together” movie, slated to open on Friday. “Singer” panelist Ken Jeong will even be spotted wearing a colored wig to make himself look more like one of the creatures in the animated film.
Some TV observers might be astonished to learn that the series is accommodating an advertiser at all. Unlike predecessors such as “The Voice” and “American Idol,” “Singer” has never indulged in on-screen product placements from sponsors such as Coca-Cola, Ford or Starbucks.

As “The Masked Singer” panelist Nicole Scherzinger returns to London’s West End this month, starring as Norma Desmond in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard, the show has found a suitable substitute: Singer/songwriter Rita Ora. Ora, who is no stranger to the format as a panelist for “The Masked Singer UK,” will take the U.S. “Masked Singer” panelist chair alongside Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg and Robin Thicke throughout Season 11, now shooting (and set to air in midseason).
Of course, Scherzinger will still be seen this fall on Season 10 of “The Masked Singer,” which taped earlier this year and returned with a special episode this past Sunday (featuring the unmasking of Demi Lovato). “The Masked Singer” returns for its regular Season 10 on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. Et.

There will be some changes when Season 8 of Fox’s The Masked Singer premieres later this month.
Under the new format announced today by the network, each episode of the celebrity singing contest will feature the usual knock-out performances by elaborately disguised celebrities, but for the first time, only one contestant will move on from each episode. The studio audience will vote for their favorite, and the singer with the least amount of votes will unmask mid-show. That celebrity will get a front row seat in the Masked Singer VIP section to watch the rest of the competition and the second unmasking, and for the first time, won’t have to to wait to find out what celebrity they were competing against.
The Top Two singers then will face off in a Battle Royale performance of the same song. The winner will be crowned the King or Queen of The...

The Masked Singer is the latest TV series to find itself recording positive Covid tests.
Los Angeles County on Monday revealed that the Fox singing competition series has recorded 12 positive tests during its production at Red Studios in Hollywood, where the show is filming.
However, production has not been impacted and has not been halted, as Deadline understands the cases mostly have been related to community exposure rather than at the workplace. Production, which kicked off in June, runs through the middle of next week.
“The safety of the entire cast and crew has been and will continue to be our No. 1 priority,” a Fox spokeswoman told Deadline. “We work closely with local and state officials and the unions to ensure we have the safest environment possible.”

The Masked Singer is currently in the middle of its fifth season on Fox and the team behind it is aware it needs to outdo itself each season to keep fans glued to their screens.
This year, they also had to do it in the middle of Covid-19, a pandemic that initially hobbled their host Nick Cannon. The entertainer was replaced for the first five episodes by Niecy Nash, who had previously been a panelist.
Ken Jeong, one of the stars of the show, speaking at Deadline’s Contenders Television: Documentary + Unscripted awards-season event, said that Nash fit the show like a “glove.” “She was amazing to do it on such short notice. Our chemistry was instant. I marvel at how she did that with just a few days’ notice, I’m in awe, this is a very hard show to moderate.”

“The Masked Singer” Season 5 premieres Wednesday on Fox, with 10 costumed contestants competing this time around, including the one-eyed Porcupine, a truly alarming Piglet and something called Grandpa Monster.
Check out the photos at the bottom of the page for your first looks at “The Masked Singer” Season 5 costumes Porcupine, Phoenix, Grandpa Monster, Chameleon, Russian Doll, Black Swan, Seashell, Snail, Raccoon and Piglet.
Aside from these 10, there are actually still more costumes to come — we just don’t yet know how many.
Fox has said “The Masked Singer” will start Season 5 with 10 scheduled contestants, who will be broken into two groups of five competitors (Groups A and B), and the 10 costumes listed above are part of that 10-contestant lineup.
But the broadcast network also said that throughout the season, the show will introduce “several” surprise contestants at the end of episodes in “Wildcard” rounds, giving these crashers a chance to unseat the regulars.

It’s official. Fox has canceled its Love Connection reboot after two seasons, Deadline has confirmed.
Host Andy Cohen announced the cancellation Wednesday morning during an interview on Howard Stern’s satellite radio show.
The cancellation of the dating show revival is not a surprise. The series was not a strong ratings performer. It averaged a 0.5 rating and 1.6 million viewers in Live+Same Day viewing in its second season.
While the series is not returning, we hear Fox would love to work with Cohen again and is looking forward to the next project with him.
The Love Connection revival sent hopeful singles on three dates in order to ditch the apps and find true love. Each hour of the show featured single men and/or women in search of romance. They told Cohen exactly what they were looking for in a partner and why they’d found it so hard to meet Mr.
