London, June 26 (Ians) Legendary India fast bowler Jhulan Goswami, England women’s captain Heather Knight and 2019 Men’s Odi World Cup winning captain Eoin Morgan have joined the McC World Cricket Committee, said the Marylebone Cricket Club on Monday.
Jhulan, a Padma Shri, and Arjuna Awardee, is often regarded as one of the fastest bowlers in the women’s game. She represented India in 12 Tests, 204 ODIs and 68 T20Is from 2002 to 2022, picking 355 wickets across formats, the most by any bowler in women’s international cricket.
She also won the Icc Women’s Player of the Year award in 2007 and rose to number one in the Icc Women’s Odi bowling rankings in January 2016. Jhulan was also the captain of the Indian women’s cricket team from 2008 to 2011.

Birmingham, June 17 (Ians) Former cricketers have been very critical of defensive tactics from Australia during day one of the first Ashes Test against England at Edgbaston. At stumps on day one, Australia were 14/0 after England declared their first innings on 393/8, thanks to 118 not out from Joe Root as well as fifties from Jonny Bairstow and Zak Crawley.
Zak Crawley began Ashes 2023 by crunching Pat Cummins’ first ball of the day to the boundary rope. But it was the field placements from Cummins which left onlookers surprised, like placing a deep point in the first over and when Nathan Lyon was introduced into the attack, there were four fielders on the boundary ropes.
“They’ve gone defensive straight away. I must admit, I’m not a huge fan of that deep backward point as a starting option … if the scoreboard continually ticks over, batsmen never feel under pressure at all,” said...

Birmingham, June 16 (Ians) Australia made a steady start in their first innings after Joe Root’s excellent century steered England to a surprise declaration on an intriguing opening day of the first Ashes 2023 Test, here on Friday.
Root’s unbeaten 118 not out, his 30th century in Test cricket, was the stand-out contribution on a surface that offered little for the bowlers, and was the 32-year-old’s fourth hundred against Australia but his first since 2015. His ton drew him level with Matthew Hayden and Shivnarine Chanderpaul in the all-time list, just three behind Alastair Cook’s England record of 33.
England opted for a first-evening declaration with the score on 393/8 in their first innings after scoring at a rate of more than five-an-over across the day. And Australia’s openers Usman Khawaja and David Warner will resume on 14/0, 379 behind, having survived a tricky mini-session at the end of Friday’s play.

New Delhi, Jan 26 (Ians) England captain Ben Stokes has been named as the winner of the Icc Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year 2022 award, two days after being named as captain of Icc Men’s Test team of the Year for 2022.
He also becomes the third England cricketer to win the award after Alastair Cook (2011) and Joe Root (2021), beating competition from compatriot Jonny Bairstow, Australia’s left-handed opener Usman Khawaja, and South Africa fast-bowler Kagiso Rabada, all of whom managed to find a place in the Icc Test eleven for 2022.
Stokes, along with head coach Brendon McCullum, has changed the fortunes of English Test cricket in 2022. Struggling for results and at the rock-bottom of the World Test Championship standings, Stokes took over an English side that was struggling for confidence. Netflix’s three-part documentary series The Real Bling Ring: Hollywood Heist explores the true story behind the so-called Bling Ring. The new trailer shows the targets of the burglary crew and delves into the background of the thieves who wanted to be just as famous as the Hollywood stars they stole from. The fact they not only pulled off these robberies but then became celebrities is beyond ridiculous and can only happen in La La Land.
The docuseries was directed by Miles Blayden-Ryall and executive produced by Lawrence Walford, Rob Davis, and Alastair Cook.
The Real Bling Ring premieres on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.
Sofia Coppola wrote and directed a feature film based on the Bling Ring and starring Emma Watson, Katie Chang, Israel Broussard, Claire Julien, and Taissa Farmiga. Audiences didn’t embrace the R-rated film – it grossed 5 million during its domestic release and 20 million worldwide – and critics were mixed, with...

London, Aug 31 (Ians) England on Wednesday named an unchanged men’s squad for the third Test against South Africa, which begins on September 8 at the Kia Oval.
The series is level at 1-1 going into the deciding Test after England won the second game at Old Trafford by an innings and 85 runs. This was after Proteas triumphed by an innings and 12 runs in the first Test at Lord’s.
Following the win in the second Test, the England selection panel, made up of captain Ben Stokes, head coach Brendon McCullum and managing director Rob Key, have decided to keep faith with their 14-man group.
Only change would have come in the event of a defeat. Even then, McCullum is of a mind to allow players as many opportunities as possible to come good, especially with this group of players, whom he and Stokes believe are the best available in the...

London, Aug 22 (Ians) Former England skipper Sir Alastair Cook has asked the team management to give opener Zak Crawley a break from cricket following a lean summer and called for Harry Brook to replace him at the top of the order.
Crawley has been going through a prolonged form slump at the top, with the 24-year-old opener managing just nine and 13 against the Proteas in the opening Test at Lord’s, which England lost by an innings and 12 runs inside three days. The right-hand batter has yet to score a half-century for his country from 10 innings this summer.
Cook on Sunday called for Crawley to be dropped as the opener has scored just 164 runs at an average of 16.40 in five Tests.
“In my view it is time for Zak Crawley to be given a break from the team. He has had a lot of backing, and we have all seen...

London, June 8 (Ians) England pacer James Anderson on Tuesday said that the English team has accepted Ollie Robinson's apology for having written racist and sexist tweets several years ago, even as the England and Wales Cricket Board (Ecb) has suspended the pacer and initiated a disciplinary investigation.
Robinson, who took seven wickets on his Test debut against New Zealand, is unavailable for the second Test that begins at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Thursday.
While speaking to the British media, Anderson said that Robinson apologised to the team and that it was accepted. The bowler was asked if some team members were uncomfortable with Robinson's apology, Anderson said: "No, I think it's been accepted."
Anderson said Robinson has matured since his series of tweets of 2012 and 2013, full of racists and sexist connotations, surfaced.

New Delhi, Dec 18 (Ians) Having had the experience of bowling at the Adelaide Oval just two years ago and touring Australia four times over the last decade, R Ashwin was on the money from the start during the second day's play of the first Test as he picked four for 55 to record his best-ever spell not just Down Under but also outside Asia and West Indies, i.e. in nations where the Indian spinners usually find tough to perform.
The Indian offie, bowling slower through the air and relying on bounce, picked the prized wicket of Steve Smith for just one in his very first over as he deceived him with one that did not turn and bounce, catching him on the backfoot and sparking wild celebrations. He then scalped Travis Head and Cameron Green too.
"You know how much he (Smith) bats, his appetite for runs is huge.

Alastair Cook lifts the urn as England celebrate their 3-0 series victory over Australia.
You may have been forgiven for thinking the fifth and final Test match at The Oval would be a damp squib, after all the outcome would not affect the series following Australia’s capitulation at Durham, although England were in search of an historic and unprecedented 4-0 Ashes series win.
This was not the case however. From England’s surprise decision to hand all-rounder Chris Woakes and left arm off-spinner Simon Kerrigan their debuts, to an outstanding knock from Shane Watson, this match delivered more than what most expected.
Australia won the toss on the first day and unsurprisingly batted first, with the aforementioned Watson in super touch scoring timely runs ahead of the return series down under which commences on the 21st November.

On the eve of this Ashes series the England selectors took the decision to drop Nick Compton and promote 22-year old Joe Root from the middle order to opener.
Compton had averaged 46.40 during the tour to New Zealand in March, but in the return series on home soil he managed just 39 runs in 4 innings with a highest score of just 16.
Root himself has opened for Yorkshire ever since he made his debut for the county back in 2009.
His first taste at the top of the order for his country was in England’s warm-up game at Chelmsford against Essex where he looked shaky at best, particularly against 20-year old fast bowler Tymal Mills, managing scores of 41 and 26.
I mentioned in a previous article that facing the new ball in International Cricket is a different proposition entirely to that at domestic level and frankly it showed.

What a Test match! Shades of Edgbaston in 2005 were clearly evident for every player and supporter whether they were present in Nottingham or watching the drama of the last four and a half days unfold on their TV screens.
From questionable umpiring to an outstanding 98 from debutant Ashton Agar, to a phenomenal recovery spearheaded by Ian Bell to a ten-wicket haul from Jimmy Anderson. This match had it all.
I wrote on the eve of this Ashes Series that we shouldn’t overlook the Australians, that they were a side with much to prove and that they would pose a real examination of England’s credentials. If this Test Match is anything to go by then that most certainly will be the case.

It is an important summer for both England and Australia. It always is when it comes to Cricket’s greatest rivalry – The Ashes. Australia enter the five match series on the firing line and with several doubts about their credentials both here and back home, while last month Cricket Australia took the drastic decision to fire coach Mickey Arthur cancelling his contract two years early, possibly as a direct consequence of the fact that the former South Africa coach had reportedly lost the dressing room.
This was brought to light most notably on the disastrous tour to India in March where four senior players including vice-captain Shane Watson were dropped for failing to do their ‘homework’. Refusal to carry out the most simplest of tasks suggests that the relationship had already eroded long before it became front page news, and that his departure on the 24th June was the point...

With a packed summer of cricket ahead for England, including the ever demanding Ashes Series, do England have the batting lineup to survive? With Kevin Pietersen injured and a number of players out of form, I wonder whether the Australians will be starting to fancy their chances of taking back the Ashes.
Captain Alastair Cook is looking in fine form, with a century in the last test match against and improving New Zealand bowling attack. However, his current opening partner, Nick Compton, has struggled so far since bursting onto the test match scene. There have been problems lower down the order as well, leaving many critics wondering if a batting order reshuffle is needed.
This article will look at promising players in English cricket and assess whether they could make the step up to test match level!

With back to back Ashes series this year, it could be hard to forget that New Zealand will be gracing our shores this season. However, after England only just held the Kiwi’s to a 0-0 draw away from home earlier this year, Andy Flower will want his side to start the season strong against a side ranked six places lower than his England side. Here’s my preview of the first of many tests this summer for our national side.
After the disappointing away series in New Zealand at the start of 2013, Andy Flower will be hoping his side can put aside any doubts and whitewash a team who currently sit 8th in both the Test and Odi Rankings. When you consider that England sit 2nd in those two disciplines, the series shouldn’t pose any serious threat to the home side, but the series at the start of...
