Kate Hudson is in negotiations to join the romantic comedy "Something Borrowed" for Alcon Entertainment and 2S Films says Variety.
Based on Emily Giffin's 2005 debut novel of the same name, the story centers on a single Manhattan attorney (Ginnifer Goodwin). This consummate good-girl gets drunk on her 30th birthday and ends up sleeping with Dexter (Colin Egglesfield), the fiancé of her selfish best friend Darcy (Hudson).
As the mistake blossoms into a full-blown affair, she must decide between her life-long friend and the man of her dreams.
Though not stated in the article, it's likely Hudson signed for the potential sequel should the film go well. The follow-up novel "Something Blue" switches the focus to the Darcy character and how she tries to get her life back into balance after the betrayal.
John Krasinski recently signed to play the girl's grade-school confidant Ethan, a supporting character in 'Borrowed' who...

"Captain America" isn't the only project he's been linked to lately.
John Krasinski (TV's "The Office," "It's Complicated") is in negotiations to join romantic comedy "Something Borrowed" for Alcon Entertainment says The Hollywood Reporter.
Based on Emily Giffin's 2005 debut novel, Ginnifer Goodwin plays a New York attorney who has just entered her 30's and becomes involved with her best friend's fiance. Krasinski would play her friend and confidant.
Alcon also picked up film rights to "Something Blue", the second book in the series. Krasinski's character is only a supporting role in the first film but becomes the male lead in the second so the deal on offer is for both pictures.
Luke Greenfield is directing with filming to kick off in the Spring. Hilary Swank, Aaron Lubin, Pamela Schein Murphy, Molly Smith, Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson are producing.

John Krasinski is in negotiations to join Ginnifer Goodwin in Alcon's romantic comedy "Something Borrowed."
The script centers on a Manhattan attorney (Goodwin), the consummate good girl, who falls in love with her best friend's fiance on her 30th birthday.
The project is based on a series of novels by Emily Giffin. Alcon also picked up rights to the second book, "Something Blue," with a plan to develop a sequel.
Krasinski's deal is rare in that it is a two-picture deal for a role -- he will play Goodwin's friend and confidant -- more supporting in nature in the first movie but which evolves into the male lead in the second one.
Luke Greenfield is directing the first pic, now eyeing a spring start.
Alcon heads Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson are producing with 2S principals Hilary Swank and Molly Smith. Aaron Lubin and Pamela Schein Murphy of Wild Ocean Films also are producing.

Continuing its acquisitions streak, Hilary Swank and producing partner Molly Smith's Alcon Entertainment-based 2S Films has picked up the screen rights to Emily Giffin's 2005 debut novel "Something Borrowed," as well as its sequel, "Something Blue."
2S, which has its own discretionary fund, has been busy acquiring material and developing it in-house since setting up shop at Alcon in June, but this is the first project that will be financed and developed at Warner Bros.-based Alcon. The project is a potential starring vehicle for Swank.
"Borrowed" centers on a Manhattan attorney who becomes involved with her best friend's fiance following her 30th birthday. "Blue," published a year later, told the same basic story but from the point of the view of the best friend, a shopaholic publicist.
Giffin, a lawyer-turned-writer, also wrote the chicklit books "Love the One You're With" and "Baby Proof."
