When actor Charlie Wright was cast as main character Rodrick Heffley in the fourth “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” live-action film, the Internet reacted with a #NotMyRodrick meme that the actor says “ruined my career.”
In a video posted Sunday to YouTube and TikTok, the now-25-year-0ld actor publicly spoke for the first time about the overwhelmingly negative reaction to him taking over the role originally played by Devon Bostick. “It kind of ruined my acting career, but I’m still alive. I’m still here.”
In the nine-minute video, Wright described the harsh response to the release of the first “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul” trailer in early 2017. “Let’s just say that when the world found out I was playing Rodrick, they weren’t very happy.”
He shared some of the versions of the meme that compared him to Bostick, including one with the caption,...

This post contains spoilers for the season 2 finale of "Yellowjackets."
"Yellowjackets" is the type of show that's able to elicit a half-dozen different emotions from viewers in the span of just a few minutes. One second, you can be laughing at Jeff (Warren Kole) as he laments that he won't be able to Google himself anymore if he goes on the run, and the next you can be gasping over Kevyn's (Alex Wyndham) death. The show is often scary, funny, and often deeply emotional, but arguably no episode has been more downright heartbreaking than last night's finale.
The hour saw multiple deaths, losses, and changes of fortune for the Yellowjackets, from the aforementioned poisoning of Kevyn to the fire that engulfed the hunting lodge to the crowning of teen Natalie as the new antler queen. Decades later, though, we also saw grown-up Natalie (Juliette Lewis) meet her end, as she...

The Season 2 finale of “Yellowjackets” left us with dropped jaws — and a lot of questions. We still don’t know who “pit girl” is, but we did see how things escalate to the point where the survivors began hunting each other to stay alive.
Although, as creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson told TheWrap before the Season 2 premiere, not every question will be answered. Said Nickerson, when asked if he minded the comparisons to the often frustrating “Lost”: “I don’t always want everything to be answered. Like, I do and I don’t, because so much of what made ‘Lost’ so engrossing was the mystery, not just the mystery of what happened, but the sort of reclamation of the spookiness of being alive. You can’t give all the answers and maintain that spookiness.”
With that in mind, here are some of the most pressing issues that still need to be answered.

No lie. The tragic season finale of Yellowjackets made us cry by killing off tormented bad-ass Natalie (Juliette Lewis) who was finally starting to heal from her ’90s wilderness trauma. We also shed a tear for the bleak state of her grieving surviving friends: Misty (Christina Ricci), broken with guilt about accidentally killing Nat; Lottie (Simone Kessell), unhinged and about to be hospitalized; Tai (Tawny Cypress) and Van (Lauren Ambrose) whose suddenly rekindled passion has chilled just as quickly; and teary Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) who can’t deny that her daughter Callie (Sarah Desjardins) has inherited her mom’s capacity for violence. The one person who seemed the most stable at the episode’s end was Shauna’s husband Jeff (Warren Kole) – sweet, earnest, furniture salesman Jeff Sadecki! Sure, he watched his old high school friend Kevyn (Alex Wyndham) drop dead and then helped Misty’s murderer boyfriend Walter (Elijah Wood) move the body.

Episode six of “Yellowjackets” Season 2, “Qui,” makes for one of the most significant “do not miss” episodes of television this year. Now firmly into the back half of the second season, “Qui” takes massive strides in converging plotlines in the present while wreaking utter emotional devastation in the past. More impressive is the way this episode serves as a showcase for powerhouse performances across the ensemble cast.
“Qui” resumes the terrible timing of teen Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) going into labor. The good news is that the complete inexperience, shock, and anxiety over bringing a baby into this world primarily unites the group as they frantically try to help Shauna. The bad news is that they depended on Misty (Samantha Hanratty) to act as a midwife, but the first sign of blood sends her reeling over her accidental murder of Crystal (Nuha Jes Izman). The volume of blood Shauna’s losing worries everyone,...

Sarah Desjardins had the enormous good luck — and talent — to land on two of the hottest TV shows in a row: She plays Callie, the daughter of Shauna (Melanie Lynskey), on the hit Showtime series “Yellowjackets,” and was also Maddie, the kidnapped daughter of the vice president, on the Netflix thriller “Night Agent.”
“Yeah, pinch me. I’m very grateful,” said the 28-year-old actress, who can convincingly play 19 or younger. She spoke to TheWrap ahead of “Yellowjackets” Episode 6, which premieres on Showtime streaming Friday and airs Sunday on Showtime.
“It’s just so funny how the timing worked out, that I filmed the shows six months apart, but they came out, like, a day apart. You never know how that’s gonna pan out, but yeah, it’s very awesome,” she said.

The following post contains spoilers for the first five episodes of "Yellowjackets" season 2.
After taking the world by storm in 2021, the genre-bending Showtime series "Yellowjackets" returned in 2023 with a jaw-dropping second season, one full of new characters, long-awaited answers, and even more questions about the mysterious force in the wilderness. The season 2 premiere picks up two months after Jackie's (Ella Purnell) shocking death in the '90s timeline. Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) works through her grief and guilt by talking to the frozen body, while the rest of the team distract themselves from their growing hunger. In the present day, Misty (Christina Ricci) helps Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) cover up the death of her former lover, Taissa (Tawny Cypress) battles for control of her body, and Natalie (Juliette Lewis) finds herself held captive by a familiar cult.

This article contains spoilers for "Yellowjackets" season 2, episode 1.
If you watched "Yellowjackets" season 1, I doubt your favorite character was Callie Sadecki (Sarah Desjardins). The teenage daughter of Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) and Jeff (Warren Kole), she didn't have much personality beyond stereotypical "spoiled teenage daughter" character tropes. Callie's most memorable scene in season 1 was at her expense; in episode 5, "Blood Hive," Callie discovers her mom is cheating on her dad with Adam (Peter Gadiot). Callie tries to blackmail Shauna by threatening to tell Jeff, only to back down once Shauna explains how ruinous a divorce would be for Callie.
Shauna's affair with Adam ended with her murdering him. Now this season, she and Jeff (who is standing by her after several mutual misunderstandings) are trying to keep the crime covered up. Callie has been suspicious since she saw a missing person's report on Adam and grows even more distant from her parents.

“‘Yellowjackets’ just hit the bullseye,” says Warren Kole, who plays Jeff Sadecki in the Showtime drama series. “I’ve never been a part of anything so well-received. You know you’ve captured an audience when everyone is thoughtfully theorizing about what’s motivating, what’s next and what’s underneath the story and the characters.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.
Fresh off seven Emmy nominations for Season 1, the sophomore cycle kicked off March 26. After killing her lover (Peter Gadiot) in a fit of paranoia, Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) must evade Detective Kevyn Tang (Alex Wyndham) and keep her friends from discovering that the mastermind behind Season 1’s extortion attempt is her kindly and indebted furniture-salesman husband, Jeff (Kole).

With two-time Best Drama Actress Emmy winner and reigning 2022 champ, Zendaya (“Euphoria”), out of contention, this year’s race is wide open. The early leader in our overall odds is Melanie Lynskey, who plays adult Shauna in the Showtime series “Yellowjackets.” If she prevails, she will become just the second winner for the network in this category, following Claire Danes who won for “Homeland” in 2012 and 2013.
“Yellowjackets” tells the story of a wildly talented high school girls soccer team that becomes the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the Canadian wilderness. With dueling timelines that show the characters in the past and present day, the series made an impressive first showing at last year’s Emmys, earning seven bids including Best Drama Series and Best Drama Actress for Lynskey.

It’s been over a year since “Yellowjackets” wrapped its Emmy-nominated first season and revealed the Antler Queen’s identity. In the ‘96 timeline, winter is starting to deplete the forest’s supply of hunting game. Subsequent fear breeds mystical thought and empowers Lottie (Courtney Eaton) to assume control of the group. Meanwhile, Travis (Kevin Alves) is searching for his younger brother, Javi (Luciano Leroux), who disappeared the night everyone unwittingly consumed psychedelic mushrooms.
In the present, Natalie (Juliette Lewis) has been kidnapped by members of a sect sporting the hooked-girl symbol, presumably at the behest of an adult Lottie (Simone Kessell), a cult figure we have yet to meet. Taissa (Tawny Cypress) pulls off an upset victory for a state senate seat, but her wife (Rukiya Bernard) discovers in the form of their missing dog’s severed head that Tai’s ritualistic tendencies in the face of uncertainty didn’t...

Let What is Broken So Remain: McGuiness’ Debut Familiar, Mesmerizing
“Ah, why should life all labor be?” asks Lord Alfred Tennyson in a line from his poem, The Lotus-Eaters, with which Alexandra McGuiness’ film debut shares its title. First referenced as the main source of food for sleepy island dwelling folk in Homer’s Odyssey, the lotus is a fruit and a flower that acts like a narcotic when consumed. It’s a fitting allusion for a film that deals with a posh group of London twentysomethings hollowly attending endless parties together as they apathetically pursue glamorously impenetrable careers.
Alice (Antonia Campbell-Hughes) suspects that she’s getting a titch too old to continue pursuing her career as model, and thus sets her sights on the next best thing—acting. She’s not quite over the break-up with her ex, Charlie (Johnny Flynn), who is addicted to heroin and rather self-involved...

In 1982, controversial film director Wilson Wyler Concannon released his only film, The Hills Run Red. Because of its graphic depiction of sadism and murder, the film was quickly pulled from theatres. Film historians can find neither any prints of the film nor any of the cast and crew – only a poorly assembled teaser of the film.
Cut to the present day and fanatic horror fan and aspiring film-maker Tyler (Tad Hilgenbrink) is obsessed with finding the lost film, devoting all his free time to dissecting the trailer, director’s life and any other miniscule bit of information that his girlfriend Sarina (Janet Montgomery) feels neglected.
Tyler soon tracks down Concannon’s daughter Alexa (Sophie Monk) and convinces her, despite her hesitancy, to guide them to a possible copy of the film that may still be laying around in her dad’s old home out in the bush.

Kill Devil Hills - The scary season has arrived.
In the spirit of movies that make you fear going to the movies comes The Hills Run Red on DVD. Tyler (Tad Hilgenbrinck) is a film geek obsessed with an ’80s film called The Hills Run Red. The movie was quickly yanked from theaters and no prints or videotapes of the film exist. He finds a clue to the movie by locating one of its stars played by Sophie Monk. After a lapdance, she agrees to take Tad and his two friends to the shooting location. Tad doesn’t realize there might be a sequel in production.
Star Tad Hilgenbrinck and director Dave Parker called up the Party Favors hotline to chat about their grisly horror film about a gruesome horror film recently released on DVD by Warner Premiere.

We've all heard the story of the lost film; that old horror classic that mysteriously and tragically falls through the cracks never to be seen again. A handful of them, such as the often bereaved London After Midnight, go on to attain a legendary status that was likely only made possible by their very absence. But what if, what if, some old forgotten film did carry the whisper of something dark, something real, something fat, deadly, and wanting its mother. Some mysteries are best left sleeping.
Horror geek Tyler (Tad Hilgenbrink) has deaf ears for any such advice. The Hills Run Red is a lost film; a notorious slasher that disappeared without a trace after a very small screening many years ago. Hungry to gain some notoriety by finding the missing treasure, he tracks down the promiscuous and drugged out stripper daughter (Sophie Monk) of the film's director (William Sadler), sobers the girl up,...

The Hills Run Red (just out on DVD from Warner Premiere) is about the quest to track down a lost horror film of the same title, one supposedly so shocking that our protagonist is obsessed with witnessing its full, terrible vision. And yet this Hills has been issued in an R-rated cut only, with references on the audio commentary to scenes its creators wanted to include, but were too gruesome. Irony?
Nevertheless, there’s enough on view in Hills Run Red to push that R to its limits, and to justify its title. Before the plot even kicks in, we witness a young boy bloodily slicing up his own face before we’re introduced to aforementioned fright buff Tyler (Tad Hilgenbrinck, taking a giant step up from his previous Warner Premiere flick, Lost Boys: The Tribe). Having devoted himself to researching The Hills Run Red’s strange history, and seen...

So, the August bank holiday has passed for another year and that means one thing – The Film4 Frightfest in London has just finished. This year held a special meaning to the festival though, with it greeting its 10th year in existence having moved, during that time, from humble beginnings in the Prince Charles Cinema, to the grander Odeon Leicester Square and finally, for the first time this year, to the Empire Cinema (also in Leicester Square). The Empire houses the largest cinema screen in the UK, which was used to display the main catalogue of films this year round. Trust me, this thing is absolutely massive.
Second to this, also for the first time ever, Frightfest organisers Alan, Ian, Paul and Greg decided to commandeer a smaller screen to show those movies they felt should be in the Fest, but couldn’t be worked into the main programme. This screen...

It isn’t often that I’ll watch low budget horror fare and go away thinking “that’s a pretty good film”, but tonight that’s exactly what I thought after popping Red Mist into the trusty DVD player.
Red Mist (or “Freakdog” in the States) is directed by “Shrooms” helmer Paddy Breathnach and stars Arielle Kebbel (”The Uninvited”, “Gilmore Girls”), Andrew Lee Potts (”Primeval”, “Ideal”), Alex Wyndham (”Little Dorrit”, “Rome”) and Colin Stinton (”House of Saddam”, “The Bourne Ultimatum”), the film hits UK theatres on 3rd July 2009.
The medical students at Forthaven General Hospital study hard and party harder, until a cruel prank accidentally puts the facility’s creepy janitor into a deep coma. But when one responsible student tries to revive the degenerate loner with an experimental injection, she instead sends his brainwaves berserk. Will a sudden spree of sick kicks now claim the guilty one-by-one, or has...

Dave Parker is close to completing The Hills Run Red , a Dark Castle and Warner Premiere production that pulls him back into the cinematic horror fold. And although there's no release date yet , the MPAA has weighed in on his cut. Surprise, surprise...it got an R for "strong bloody horror violence and torture, grisly images, sexual content, nudity, language and some drug use." Sophie Monk, Tad Hilgenbrink, William Sadler and Alex Wyndham star in this direct-to-dvd effort about a film fanatic who gets more than he bargained for when he ventures into the wooded location of an infamous slasher movie...and learns principal photography never truly ended. David J. Schow and John Dumbrow penned the script. If you missed it, we snared a pretty cool image from Hills at...

Paddy Breathnach's (Shrooms) latest horror project has been given a new name, according to the IMDb. The website reports that the once titled Red Mist is now known as Freakdog and stars Arielle Kebbel (Grudge 2), Sarah Carter (Skinwalkers), Stephen Dillane, Andrew Lee Potts (return to House on Haunted Hill), MyAnna Buring (The Descent), Martin Compston (Doomsday), Michael Jibson, Colin Stinton, Michael J. Reynolds and Alex Wyndham, among many others. The film is set to be released by Anchor Bay Entertainment and Starz sometime in 2009. A young doctor in a Us hospital administers a powerful and untested cocktail of drugs to a coma victim. But instead of curing him, it triggers a powerful "out-of-body" experience and enables the patient - a depraved and dangerous loner - to inhabit other people's bodies and, through them, take revenge on the bullying medical students who were accidentally responsible for his condition.
