Over the last week, New Line Cinema has been making headlines for going all-in on a partnership with Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger and the film’s producers at BoulderLight Pictures. New Line came out the winner in a bidding war over Cregger’s next film, a mysterious horror project called Weapons. They signed a first look deal with BoulderLight Pictures, tasking the company with developing high concept genre projects for them. And they gave a greenlight to the thriller Companion, produced by BoulderLight and Cregger. Now Deadline has revealed who the runner-up was in the Weapons bidding war: Get Out, Us, and Nope filmmaker Jordan Peele, who wanted to produce the film through his company Monkeypaw, for release through Universal Pictures.
According to Deadline, New Line Cinema spent 38 million to secure Weapons as their own. That includes the film’s budget, as well as the 5 million...

Exclusive: Days after a feverish auction wrapped up for Weapons, the town is still talking about the wake left in its path. The Dish hears that the deal for the Zach Cregger-directed horror film is remarkable in that this is only Cregger’s second film — after the highly profitable debut Barbarian — and it sold to New Line for an overall sum around 38 million, including the budget and Cregger getting 5 million to direct, and 10 million total when that sum is added to his fees for scripting and producing alongside Vertigo’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon, and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules.
The bidding also included Universal, with Jordan Peele and his Monkeypaw to produce. While others circled it came down to those two studios. Sources said that that the Uni bid was about 7 million less than New Line. Peele, we hear, was ready to kick in part of his contractual back end.

There will be no fifth season for The Last O.G. The Season 4 finale, which aired on December 21, 2021, will now serve as the series finale for the comedy series starring Tracy Morgan, Deadline has confirmed.
According to sources, the decision was made months ago, following the series’ Season 4 run. It is not connected to the current pullout from original scripted programming on TNT and TBS following the WarnerMedia-Discovery merger, which resulted in the decision yesterday not to proceed with production on new TBS series Kill the Orange-Faced Bear starring Damon Wayans Jr. in a cost-cutting move.
Co-created and executive-produced by Oscar-winner Jordan Peele, The Last O.G. followed Tray (Morgan), an ex-con who was shocked to see just how much the world had changed when he was released from a 15-year prison stint. Exclusive: Felicity Huffman is returning to acting — and to ABC — with a single-camera comedy that has landed a big pilot production commitment at the network. The Peanut Butter Falcon‘s Zack Gottsagen co-stars in the project from Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment.
Written by Becky Hartman Edwards, the untitled comedy is inspired by Susan Savage, the real-life owner of the Triple-a baseball team the Sacramento River Cats. It marks the first project Huffman has taken on since the 2019 college admission scandal.
The Emmy-winning actress has been heavily courted for TV series and pilots since she completed her short prison sentence after pleading guilty to fraud more than a year ago. Kaplan approached Huffman with the idea about a series inspired by Savage, which she responded to. He brought on Hartman Edwards as a writer, and Gottsagen, who has a talent deal with Kapital, came on board to co-star opposite Huffman.

“The Last O.G.” isn’t done yet.
TBS has renewed the Tracy Morgan comedy for a fourth season, however, it will be moving forward without star Tiffany Haddish who is exiting the series, according to sources. News of the renewal comes around five months after season 3 aired the last of its 10 episodes.
Of note is that the show is changing showrunner for the fourth time in four seasons. Owen Smith, whose previous credits include “Black-ish” and “Survivor’s Remorse,” is taking over from Keenen Ivory Wayans for the forthcoming season. Wayans took over last year from season 2 showrunner Saladin K. Patterson, who himself assumed showrunning duties from season 1 showrunner and series co-creator John Carcieri.

What's the cutest father-son pairing in Hollywood, you ask? Though they have some fierce competition, there's no doubt that Rob Lowe and the younger of his two sons, John Owen Lowe, are major father-son relationship goals. As well as inheriting dreamy blue eyes from his father, John Owen also inherited a passion for acting. He made his big debut in The Lowe Files - where he, his dad, and his brother Matthew explored unsolved mysterious together - and he even had a guest role on Fox's The Grinder (which Rob starred in) as Joel Zadak. His latest project with Rob is Netflix's Holiday in the Wild, and if the new Christmas flick doesn't make you fall in love with this father-son duo, then maybe these pics of Rob and John Owen Lowe together will.

The premiere of The Last O.G., also starring Tiffany Haddish and executive produced by Jordan Peele, drew 1.8 million total viewers, with 882K in the key 18-49 demo in Live+same day. That marks the biggest cable comedy premiere since 2016, the largest scripted cable comedy premiere since 2015 and the strongest TBS original debut ever, according to the network and Nielsen.
The total-viewers number is projected to hit 1.25 million in Live+7. In addition, more than 6.9M total viewers (3.3M 18-49) tuned into the show over a three-night, five-telecast launch on TBS and TNT following the Ncaa Men’s Basketball Final Four.
The numbers are a boon for TBS, which picked up the series after it was passed on by FX in the pilot script stage. It then was redeveloped at TBS.

Tracy Morgan believes in second chances. “For me, I got a second chance at life, I got a second chance at love, I got a second chance at show business and a career,” Morgan told IndieWire. The comedian returns to series TV on Tuesday night with TBS’ “The Last O.G.,” his first major role since recovering from a horrific automobile accident in 2014.
“And this time I’m going to do it right,” Morgan said. “I wanted to do TV the way it should be done.” Morgan plays Tray, an ex-con who is released after 15 years in prison and realizes the world has changed, from his now gentrified Brooklyn neighborhood to his ex-girlfriend Shay (Tiffany Haddish), who’s now married to a white man (Ryan Gaul). An even bigger shocker: Shay is raising two teens — who turn out to be Tray’s kids, whom he didn’t know even existed. Cedric the Entertainer also stars,...

A few thoughts on tonight's penultimate episode of The Grinder season 1 coming up just as soon as I leave an onion bagel in the toaster... It's funny — albeit not nearly as funny as The Grinder itself has been this season — to think back to how nervous the show's creators were last summer about the idea that anyone might view the show as a Hollywood satire, rather than a family comedy that just happened to include a famous actor in the family. It's not hard to understand their concern, since inside-showbiz stories rarely interest the rest of the country nearly as much as they interest the people who already work in showbiz. But The Grinder has been so much better, and more consistent, since it dropped the family comedy pretense and embraced the meta. "Divergence" was a particularly self-aware episode, riffing on the trope that many procedurals use, where a seemingly...

But the incredibly adorable kitten becomes so coveted that the fight over his custody creates a gang war, forcing our two unwitting heroes to take the law into their own hands.
