Alison Brie is sharing an update on the Community movie and revealed that they have a script.
While appearing on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, Brie said she had read the script for the long-awaited movie.
“We got a script, which is a major update,” Brie said on the late-night show. “We got a script — you heard it here first.”
She continued, “I’ve read the script, and it’s so funny.”
Brie noted that there were no set dates for filming the movie. Furthermore, the Apples Never Fall star expressed her wishes for her character, Annie.
“I hope that Annie hasn’t changed too much because I loved her just the way she was,” she said.
Community premiered in 2009 on NBC and aired for five seasons before it was canceled. The now-defunct Yahoo! Screen picked up the sitcom for an additional season ending the series after six seasons.

Peacock is getting a few steps closer to Community‘s “six seasons and a movie” promise as the streamer’s follow-up film continues to take shape, but in the meantime, the comedy’s six seasons will finally come to the platform beginning Monday, April 1. The series originally aired on NBC for five seasons from 2009 to 2014 when it was canceled by the network. Ultimately, fan fervor and support led to the show’s saving by the now-defunct Yahoo! Screen where the sixth and final season originally streamed. (Credit: Peacock) Now, the show’s long-prophesied “six seasons and a movie” is about to be a reality as Peacock previously announced plans for Community: The Movie, from original series creator Dan Harmon and executive producer Andrew Guest. In anticipation of the film’s arrival, all six seasons will be streamable to Peacock subscribers this spring, allowing fans to relive their favorite episodes and...

When the character Riri Williams (played by Dominique Thorne) made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut back in 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the idea was that we’d be seeing the character again the following year in her own Disney+ show Ironheart… but 2023 came and went without Ironheart, and the show still doesn’t have an official premiere date. This has caused some fans to speculate that Marvel and Disney+ might have decided to scrap Ironheart, along with the series Wonder Man, which had Yahya Abdul-Mateen II taking on the role of the title character, who is also known as Simon Williams and hasn’t been seen in the MCU yet. But no, Ironheart and Wonder Man are not being scrapped, and in a new interview with Agents of Fandom, Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation Brad Winderbaum described the shows as spectacular, amazing, and different.

After being discussed for around a decade, the Community movie is coming much closer to being a reality, according to star Joel McHale.
In an interview with Deadline today, in support of his Fox sitcom Animal Control, returning for its second season March 6, McHale first pointed to recent comments by co-star Donald Glover in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, confirming that “the script’s done.”
McHale said that while he hasn’t yet read the script himself, he’s more than happy to share some story details. “We go to the center of the earth,” he joked. “It’s like the movie The Core.”
In all seriousness, McHale said, it’s his belief that the Community movie will shoot “this year.” He’ll be “shocked,” he said, if it doesn’t. “But I really do think it’s happening this year, and probably next week. It’s basically working around Donald’s schedule.”
In conversation with Deadline on the Fox lot, McHale also called his Animal Control cast “one of the funniest groups of people I’ve been around” — in contrast to the Community team, who he joked “were just a bunch of hacks.”
While one of his old co-stars, Ken Jeong, appears on Animal Control this season as a dog whisperer, McHale joked that he, too, is “a hack and cannot act or tell jokes,” going on to claim that “he’s not funny, not successful, and I have carried him for years. Everyone thinks I’m joking, but it’s true.”
Of course, in reality, McHale said, Jeong’s episodes were coming in too long because he did “so much funny stuff…He was really way too f***ing funny, and it really pissed me off.”
Created by Dan Harmon, Community ran for 110 episodes across six seasons, between 2009 and 2015, originating on NBC before moving over to the now-defunct Yahoo! Screen for its final run. Watching as McHale’s suspended lawyer befriends a group of eccentrics after being enforced to enroll in community college, the show was not always a ratings juggernaut, though it has maintained a very loyal fan following throughout all these years. Over the course of its run, it also notably won an an Emmy, a Critics’ Choice Television Award, and other accolades.
Peacock officially announced the Community movie back in 2022, enlisting Harmon and Andrew Guest to pen the script. McHale said during a January 2023 interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that it was to begin shooting in June of last year, though those plans fell through in a double strike summer.
In addition to McHale, cast members set to return for the movie include Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, Jeong, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Glover.

“Community” creator Dan Harmon is inching closer to the finish line for the “movie” portion of his “Six Seasons and a Movie” prophecy.
Following up on former “Community” star Donald Glover’s recent assertion that a script is already in the can, Harmon told Variety that it was almost right. According to Harmon, he’s “almost done” working on the script for the highly-anticipated film, which is set to run on NBCU’s Peacock streaming service.
“I can confirm Donald Glover’s report that I told him the script was done, but I will also say Donald’s sources are so unreliable because the script is always ‘almost done,'” Harmon quipped. “What can I tell you about it — it’s set on the campus of Greendale Community College. I’m super excited about it, and we’re almost done.”

For a lot of "Community" fans, 2023 has been a stressful year. Since 2022's announcement that a "Community" movie was finally in the works, Hollywood experienced a historic dual strike of actors and writers that threw everything back in the air again. A big reason for why the movie took so long to be greenlit in the first place was because of how difficult it was to get every cast member available around the same time, so a lot of fans have worried that the strikes would kill the production before it could truly begin. Luckily, creator Dan Harmon's made it clear that things are still moving forward. In fact, the strike may have actually helped the project rather than hurting it.

Sometimes, you have too many irons in the fire and must take one out and let it cool. According to Deadline, Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton is no longer helming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty for Marvel Studios. Deadline says they hear Cretton’s exit is amicable, with the in-demand filmmaker remaining in the Marvel family for Wonder Man and Shang-Chi 2. Thankfully, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is years away from hitting theaters, giving Marvel ample time to reassign the Infinity War-level project to another director. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty releases on May 1, 2026, setting up Avengers: Secret Wars for May 7, 2027. The two event-driven films end the MCU’s Phase 6 timeline.
Cretton remains a creative force on Marvel Studios’ Wonder Man, which he co-created with Andrew Guest, who serves as showrunner. Cretton executive produces Wonder Man, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, aka Wonder Man. Filming for the Disney+ series falls under...

Exclusive: Deadline hears that filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton has decided to step away as director of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Kang Dynasty to focus on his other Marvel projects. This is an amicable exit, I understand, as Cretton remains fully in the Marvel Studios family.
In fact, Cretton is in talks with Marvel Studios about directing future movies.
Note that Avengers: Kang Dynasty is far on the theatrical release schedule, dated to kick off summer on May 1, 2026. The movie will precede Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027 which will wrap up the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 6 features.
Cretton is currently busy on the Marvel Studios/Disney+ series Wonder Man, which he co-created with Andrew Guest, who serves as showrunner. Cretton EPs the series and also directed the first two episodes. The series resumes shooting after Thanksgiving. Joel McHale was asked by People magazine to weigh in on Chevy Chase’s recent diss of “Community,” the NBC sitcom they starred on together as series regulars for four seasons (McHale continued with the show for two additional seasons), to which McHale said: “He stopped hurting my feelings in 2009.”
Speaking on Marc Maron’s “Wtf” podcast, Chase said “Community” wasn’t “funny enough for me, ultimately,” adding: “I felt a little bit constrained. Everybody had their bits, and I thought they were all good. It just wasn’t hard-hitting enough for me.”

Before the strikes brought Hollywood to a near-standstill, Dan Harmon, co-writer Andrew Guest, and Joel McHale pitched a Community movie, which Peacock gave an enthusiastic thumbs up. The film revolves around the Community gang reuniting for a Greendale Community College reunion, finally making good on the comedy’s promise of “six seasons and a movie.”
Harmon and Guest met at The Smoke House in early 2020, with Guest agreeing to board the long-gestating project. The duo’s first order of business was to determine who would return for the fan-craved feature.
“It became a very lengthy process because we wanted to include as much of the cast that wanted to be included and therefore needed to know who was interested before we knew what the movie was going to be,” recalls Guest while speaking with The Hollywood Reporter. “Because if we’re just making a movie with Jim Rash and Joel McHale,...

“I don’t think it’s too much of a spoiler to say that the story would involve the gang getting back together,” says Dan Harmon.
That’s how he, star Joel McHale and co-writer Andrew Guest pitched the Community movie around town, pre-strike. And though Harmon and Guest still have work to do on the script, which Peacock ultimately greenlit, a Greendale Community College reunion is likely to remain core to its premise.
During the series’ run from 2009 to 2015, “six seasons and a movie” had become both a hashtag and a rallying cry for Community fans. Then, shortly before the pandemic hit, Sony approached Harmon, eager to seriously explore the “and a movie” after watching the show enjoy a strong second life in streaming. Harmon subsequently recruited Guest, who’d worked on the early seasons and was brought back for the series finale.

Though the “Community” movie is still very much happening, its script still needs to be finished.
In a recent profile with The Hollywood Reporter, series creator Dan Harmon revealed that he and one of his former show writers, Andrew Guest, “still need to hole up for a few days and finish the script,” reporter Lacey Rose wrote. The holdup comes from not wanting to waste the cast’s time.
“I don’t want these people, like Emmy-winning Donald Glover, who are bothering to gather out of loyalty to this thing, to come back and once again be getting blue pages run down by an intern that totally contradict what they spent all night memorizing,” Harmon said. “I want to have a veneer of, ‘Here’s your reward.’ I don’t want them to go, like, ‘Oh, he’s learned nothing, he’s treating us like cattle again.’”

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has been on strike since May 2 after the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) failed to meet their reasonable terms during contract negotiations. This strike halted a number of film and television productions, although some continued until the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) was also forced to go on strike by the AMPTP after the studios failed to meet their reasonable terms, even after the negotiation deadline was extended to July 12.
SAG-AFTRA officially went on strike July 14, and since then, a number of film and TV productions have been paused while we wait for the AMPTP to return to the table to negotiate in good faith. Given that sources close to the AMPTP recently said that they are willing to “break the WGA” and wait for them to essentially starve and become homeless before returning to the table,...

Summer’s beginning was marked with lots of festivals, charity galas and Spider-Man’s return to blockbuster season, as stars of all sorts soaked up the sun, from Napa to Hollywood to the Caribbean Sea and beyond. Keanu Reeves returned to his old rock-star status at BottleRock Napa, strapping on his bass with Dogstar after 20+ years (and Lizzo knocked everyone out at that posh music/food/wine/brew fest); meanwhile, Kaley Cuoco’s “Based on a True Story” brought its mysterious fun to L.A.’s Pacific Design Center and Chateau Marmont and Sir Richard Branson set sail on the Summit at Sea in the Bahamas.

Like almost every project in Hollywood, the “Community” movie is on hold amid the writers strike. However, the bright spot in the darkest timeline is that, according to star Joel McHale, series creator Dan Harmon and co-writer Andrew Guest had almost finalized the Peacock film’s script ahead of the Writers Guild of America’s (WGA) work stoppage and Harmon was in talks with his ideal director for the movie.

Community fans got their wish in 2022 when Peacock ordered a movie follow-up for the comedy series.
Since the announcement, there have been few updates about the project, and, as expected, the project is on hold due to the Writers Guild Strike.
Series star Joel McHale opened up to TV Line while promoting Crime Scene Kitchen.
"That was a bummer, because we were getting very close," he told the outlet.
"But at the same time, I'm a thousand billion percent behind the writers. The writers need to be paid."
The actor confirmed the project is on hold but will still happen when the time is right.
"When this strike is over, we'll come back and we'll make it."
"And I am sure that [series creator] Dan [Harmon] will put in 12 jokes addressing the fact it took [this long to come together]," McHale said.
"But we'll get there. It just may take a little while."

Community really is the little show that could. After airing on NBC for five seasons, where it was under a near-constant threat of cancellation, the comedy series finally got the axe. Thankfully, Yahoo! came to the rescue on the day that the cast’s contracts were set to expire and ordered a 13-episode sixth season. The dream of “six seasons and a movie” was finally realized when Peacock announced last year that they were developing a Community movie, but Joel McHale has now confirmed that the project has been delayed just as filming was about to begin.
Joel McHale told TVLine that the Community movie was due to start shooting this month, but production was put on hold due to the Writers Guild strike. “That was a bummer, because we were getting very close,” McHale said. “But at the same time, I’m a thousand billion percent behind the writers.

The wait for Community the Movie is going to be even longer.
The follow-up movie, which for a time seemed almost mythical but was greenlit last fall by Peacock, was to start filming in June. But like so many things, production is on hold due to the Writers Guild strike.

Exclusive: The writers are organized. There have been thousands of writers picketing outside of the traditional Hollywood studios from Disney, NBCUniversal, Paramount, Sony and Warner Bros. as well as the tech upstarts Netflix and Amazon.
But Deadline understands a more low-key operation is in place to target specific locations across LA that are being used for filming in order to shut them down and wreak havoc on the studios’ bottom line.
We hear the team has managed to stop production on series such as Disney+’s Marvel drama Wonder Man and Apple’s Maya Rudolph-fronted dramedy Loot.
How did they do it? Ostensibly, with two people each holding picket signs. Under labor laws, that’s all that’s required for an official picket line, which in turn means that the other unions, from IATSE to the Teamsters can refuse cross the picket line.

There are still plenty of questions about the upcoming "Community" film. We still don't know for sure if Troy (Donald Glover) will be in it, nor do we know what the actual plot will be about. Although all signs point to the idea that things are on the right track, Alison Brie has some doubts.
"I say this with a hint of ... [sighs] I don't trust it!" she said in an interview with the Av Club. "I'm not a skeptic, I do believe that the 'Community' movie will get made. It's been sold—to Peacock! But because of everything we went through on that show ... I'll believe it when I see it. It's not until I'm on set that I'll be like, 'We're making it!'"
If you're wondering what she meant by "everything we went through," she's likely referring to the constant behind-the-scenes studio conflicts that defined the show's later seasons.

There's a lot to be excited about with the upcoming "Community" movie, but a lot to be nervous about too. After such a long absence, will the study group have the same chemistry they once had? Will the format of "Community" adapt well to the medium of film? What if Dan Harmon has lost his writing edge? Well, at least when it comes to the last question, there's one good sign that all will be well. Instead of writing the script by himself, Harmon has a previous writer for the show helping him out. As he explained at a panel in October 2022:
"I'm working with Andrew Guest [...] he wrote the Dungeons & Dragons episode, and so he's going to help me make sure that I don't pull a Harmon when that script is getting executed so that we can actually deliver it and start shooting it."
What does Harmon mean by "pulling a Harmon?...

Community creator Dan Harmon has said the forthcoming film will not feature paintball.
In September, it was announced that the show’s long awaited movie spin-off is in the works. Original stars Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong will return.
The hit NBC sitcom ran from 2009 to 2015. The series followed a group of adult students at a Colorado community college
Community starred McHale, Jeong, Pudi, Jacobs, Brie, Rash, Chevy Chase, Donald Glover, and Yvette Nicole Brown.
During a recent guest appearance on the Community recap podcast Six Seasons and a Podcast, Harmon revealed a few key details about the film.
Harmon – who is also the co-creator of the hit animated series Rick and Morty – ruled out the possibility that the film will include any paintball warfare.
He said: “It’s a lot easier for me to rule stuff out than tell you what we’re pursuing.

Dan Harmon says nailing down what the Community movie’s plot would be a decade after the show ended has been a mix of anxiety, avoidance and a tricky challenge in how to address the passage of time.
The writer and showrunner appeared on the latest episode of the Six Seasons and a Movie podcast and discussed his thought process around producing the long-awaited next chapter. During the hour-long conversation, Harmon shared how he and co-writer Andrew Guest have been grappling with returning to the show’s characters in a new decade, where audiences have grown along with their stances on comedy and topical issues like (paintball) guns in schools.

While Dan Harmon is ready to make Community fans’ dreams come true by developing a Community movie for Peacock, the project will only include some things on people’s list of demands. In other words, if you’re hoping for more Dungeons & Dragons or paintball action, you’re barking up the wrong tree. Speaking on the Six Seasons and a Podcast, Harmon said the film he’s writing with Andrew Guest would not include the aforementioned fan-favorite motifs.
“It’s a lot easier for me to rule stuff out than tell you what we’re pursuing,” Harmon explained on the podcast. “For instance, we go, ‘Do we really think it’d be a good idea to be a paintball episode?’ It’s one of the first things to rule out because it’s the first thing off the top of your head, and that’s an issue with the ‘Community’ movie concept.

Dan Harmon’s “Community” was beloved for its non-stop pop culture references, film parodies and genre homages, like its “Die Hard”-inspired paintball episode. However, the upcoming film, written by Harmon and Andrew Guest, had to rule out some of the show’s most popular concepts, like the action-packed paintball battles.
On Friday’s episode of “Six Seasons and a Podcast,” Harmon pulled back the curtain on what to expect in the “Community” movie that will release on Peacock.

“Heartstopper” star Joe Locke has joined the “WandaVision” spinoff “Agatha: Coven of Chaos” for Disney+, TheWrap has confirmed.
The new Marvel Studios series is set to premiere on Disney+ and centers on the witchy Agatha Harkness, once again played by Kathryn Hahn.
It’s unclear who Locke will play in the new series, although online speculation has suggested he could be playing an older version of Billy, one of the kids that Wanda had in Westview (she also spent much of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” trying to get back to them). Besides Locke and Hahn, Emma Caulfield Ford has also been confirmed to return to the series, playing her “WandaVision” character Dottie.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is getting ready to make the switch from DC to Marvel as the lead in the upcoming Disney+ series “Wonder Man”.
The actor’s new character, also known as Simon Williams, is “the son of the industrialist Sanford Williams” who “assumes control of his munitions outfit” following the death of his father. However, he sees the suit’s “successes limited when it comes into competition with Tony Stark’s Stark Industries,” as per Deadline.
Simon receives his ion-based superpowers, including super strength, as he works under the villainous Baron Zemo. He also establishes himself as an antagonist to The Avengers, however he later chooses to join the superhero team.
In June, it was announced that the live-action series was entering development with “Shang-Chi” director Destin Daniel Cretton and “Hawkeye” co-producer Andrew Guest.

We're constantly reporting about actors making the jump from iconic franchise to iconic franchise all the time, especially when it comes to going from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the DC Extended Universe (now just the DC Universe). However, when it comes to Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, he has taken it to a whole new level. Not only is the star known for his roles in "The Handmaid's Tale" and "The Get Down," he also portrayed horror legend Candyman, Morpheus from "The Matrix," Watchmen member Dr. Manhattan, and Aquaman villain Black Manta in both 2018's "Aquaman" and the 2023 sequel "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" opposite Jason Momoa. But now he's set to add a credit from the House of Ideas as he has signed on to play Wonder Man in the upcoming Marvel Studios series on Disney+.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is officially “Wonder Man.”
The “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” actor makes his Marvel debut with the upcoming Disney+ series “Wonder Man,” helmed by “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” director Destin Daniel Cretton before he directs “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.” “Hawkeye” co-producer Andrew Guest will also write the series. A Marvel Studios representative confirmed the casting news to IndieWire.
“Wonder Man” was introduced in 1964 with “The Avengers” comic book series, created by writer Stan Lee and artists Don Heck and Jack Kirby. Known as Simon Williams, Wonder Man is the son of industrialist Sanford Williams and assumes control of the conglomerate following his passing, seeing its successes limited when it comes into competition with Tony Stark’s Stark Industries. Marvel Studios has its Wonder Man.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is set to join the Disney+ series “Wonder Man” as Simon Williams, who transforms into the titular superhero. It will be Abdul-Mateen’s third major comic book character, after playing the villain Black Manta in 2018’s “Aquaman” and Dr. Manhattan in HBO’s 2019 series “Watchmen,” for which he won an Emmy. He’s already set to reprise Black Manta in “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” currently scheduled for Christmas 2023.
Filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Marvel’s 2021 feature “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” is developing “Wonder Man” with head writer Andrew Guest, as part of Cretton’s overall deal with Marvel Studios and Onyx Collective. Cretton may direct as well, though he’s got a crowded plate: He’s already set to direct 2025’s “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” and he’s expected to helm the prospective (though unannounced) “Shang-Chi” sequel.
