This Batwoman article contains spoilers for Jane the Virgin and Agent Carter.
For younger genre TV fans, the name Bridget Regan might not immediately ring a bell. But the actress, who was just cast as Poison Ivy on The CW’s Batwoman, has a long and impressive genre TV resume that suggests the beloved DC Comics character is in very safe hands. In addition to memorable turns on The Last Ship, White Collar, and Paradise Lost, the American actress has appeared in some of the most unexpectedly memorable genre TV roles in the last decade and a half. Basically, no matter how good or bad the material, Bridget Regan has a habit of elevating her roles to iconic. Let’s break down why Regan is such a good choice to play the morally complex Poison Ivy in Batwoman Season 3…

If you're a fan of sword-and-sorcery series like The Witcher, then Terry Goodkind's The Nicci Chronicles should be on your reading list.
This post is sponsored by Tor Books.
"Future and Fate depend on both the journey and the destination. Kol Adair lies far to the south in the Old World. From there, the Wizard will behold what he needs to make himself whole again. And the Sorceress must save the world."
This is the witch's prophecy that truly kickstarted warrior-sorceress Nicci and wizard Nathan's Old World quest in Death's Mistress, the first book in The Nicci Chronicles, setting some very high stakes for this epic tale moving forward. Nathan "made himself whole again" by reclaiming his magic, but when Heart of Black Ice, the final chapter in Terry Goodkind's sword-and-sorcery story opens, the eponymous Nicci has yet to "save the world." No pressure, Nic.

Would we have had Mutant Enemy or Bad Robot without Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Robert Tapert's Renaissance Pictures? David thinks not...
After 1992's Army Of Darkness, another Sam Raimi feature film wouldn't emerge in theatres for another three years. What Raimi did with the time in between is anybody's guess - perhaps he wandered the world; maybe he dug through a peculiar collection of Spider-Man comics with most of the dialogue cut out. But what he certainly did with his Renaissance Pictures partners was bring to light a new frontier of genre TV (cue heroic music and a narrator saying, "This is the story of a time long ago – a time of myth and legend. When the ancient gods were petty and cruel, and they plagued mankind with suffering, only one man dared to challenge their power...")

Bridget Regan played Kahlan Amnell on Sam Raimi’s short-lived Terry Goodkind-inspired series, Legend of the Seeker. Now the actress is headed to the CW set of Beauty and the Beast.
The fresh-faced redhead is going to guest star in a full story arc in the fantasy-kissed reboot. TV Line revealed that Regan’s new character will pack quite a surprise for viewers.
The freshman series stars Smallville‘s Kristin Kreuk as a cop with a past, named Catherine Chandler. Jay Ryan acts as our pretty beast, Vincent Keller. Well, Bridget Regan’s character also has a past…with Vincent! Fans already know that Vincent was the victim of one monster of an accident while serving in Afghanistan. Well, at that time, he was just a regular guy, and apparently had a regular old fiance! Regan’s character, Alex, was that fiance. She thinks Vincent is very dead, that he was killed overseas.

Here we go again let's all jump to conclusions and think this movie is another Medieval waste of time. I heart Fantasy and Medieval movies more than most people. Don't get me wrong I don't make my significant other dress up like a sexy elf or a hot Gandalf, but I've definitely thought about it. Currently, I’m enjoying the HBO series 'Game of Thrones' and still waiting for the 'Legend of the Seeker' to come back based off Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series which looks doubtful.
This movie is of course base on a "true" story in the 13th century a determined group of Knights Templar defends Rochester Castle against the tyrannical King John.

I was crawling around the interwebs to see what some of the better known names in scifi had going on, and I stumbled across this little gem. Terry Goodkind, author of the acclaimed Sword of Truth series, is undergoing a little cosmetic surgery on his website. It appears that the site is gearing up for the next installment of the Richard and Kahlan saga. Right now there is just a landing image announcing the title of his new book The Omen Machine, with the following passage:
Hannis Arc, working on the tapestry of lines linking constellations of elements that constituted the language of Creation recorded on the ancient cerulean scroll spread out among the clutter on his desk, was not surprised to see the seven etherial forms billow into the room like acrid smoke driven on a breath of bitter breeze. Like an otherworldly collection of spectral shapes seemingly carried on random eddies of air,...

I must confess I never watched Legend of the Seeker, but, having just searched for a photo to illustrate this article, I'm starting to wish I had... Aussie actress Tabrett Bethell -- who plays leather-clad warrior woman Cara on the Sam Raimi-produced fantasy series (based on Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth novels) -- has just been cast in ABC's police procedural Poe, a fictionalized retelling of Edgar Allan Poe's life, in which the legendary horror scribe is portrayed as "the world's first detective", solving crimes in Boston in the 1840s. More after the jump. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bethell will play a character named...

An unfortunate, recent loss, Legend of the Seeker only made it through two seasons, and the DVD release of the second and final season is now available. Based on the popular Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind, and starring Craig Horner, Bridget Regan, and Bruce Spence, the show seemed to take off pretty well, but didn’t quite hold onto enough viewers by the time we got to a season three decision.
Though squarely in the realm of such syndication “classics” as Hercules and Xena, there was some clear progression at work with this one, focusing as it did on rather more creepy and unnerving subjects, and (eventually) putting a good deal less “goofy” in its comic relief.
The second season kicked things up a notch, as defeat of one evil led to a quest to defeat supernatural evil, and there was a lot less time for the show’s fun side.

Fuquay-varina - It was a speedy two days with major stars dropping into my neighborhood.
On a Thursday night the man who made predicted FedEx arrived at a Durham library. Mister McFeely (David Newell) still fits in his Speedy Delivery uniform and hat as he greeted Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood fans of all ages. Most of the ages were under seven. Luckily I had brought along a little kid in order not to stick out.
McFeely was at the end of a weeklong tour around the state to touch base with the kids. Lately whenever any star of kid focused tv shows comes to town, it’s part of some over inflated media spectacular stage show at the sports arena. There’s singing, dancing, indoor fireworks and motorcycle stunts meant to dazzle a three year old. Plus there’s a $18 convenience charge on the tickets. But this was not McFeely’s type of entertainment.

I just wouldn’t have guessed it, but Legend of the Seeker has a huge amount of fans. Either that, or a small amount of very vocal ones. In any case, the show (which airs only in syndication) is still gathering fans, despite the fact that it was cancelled after its second season earlier this year. Outrage could be heard across the internet as the aforementioned fans headed up “Save Our Seeker” campaigns in order to revive the series based on Terry Goodkind’s Sword of Truth novels. While there has been no sign of progress on this front, fans of the fantasy series have perhaps their best chance of redemption coming up next Tuesday, when the second season hits DVD.
It’s not necessarily a common practice, but there have been several cancelled shows to have been revived by DVD sales (the now-beloved Family Guy springs to mind). If...

There’s a reason so many fantasy writers are turning to the dark side these days: It works. Terry Goodkind’s tree-slaughtering Sword Of Truth series only really comes to life when it descends into sadomasochism, and George R.R. Martin’s brilliant Song Of Ice And Fire series is a catalog of misery and woe. It could be a fluke, or it could be the general modern tendency to equate narrative cruelty with depth, but for whatever reason, Paul Hoffman’s newest novel, The Left Hand Of God, certainly delivers the terrible goods. Thankfully, unlike Goodkind, Hoffman has more ...

Here, still answering your questions, Horner replies to queries both serious (interacting with fans) and trivial (the last movie he watched in a movie theater). Please note that many of you asked multiple questions and Horner replied to as many as he could and, where he didn't, we didn't include the question. Oh, and at the very, very end, he picks his two favorite questions, one each from parts one and two of our interview, with the winners soon to receive an autographed item from Horner. So, thanks to our readers for all the great questions and to Horner for his terrific work on Legend of the Seeker (TV) and for taking the time to respond in such detail. Lastly, though...

Finally, it's here: our two-part Craig Horner interview. Yes, we've pinned down Horner, the star -- or, sadly, former star -- of Legend of the Seeker (TV), the syndicated fantasy series on which he shared the screen with Bridget Regan, Bruce Spence, and Tabrett Bethell. Horner had been on vacation, a long one, following the conclusion of filming on season two of the show, but we caught up with him by telephone somewhere in Australia, where he was out and about with a mate. Horner graciously and good-naturedly spent a half hour on the phone with us answering questions provided by you, the readers of TVStar.com. So, read on and enjoy part one, and be on the lookout for part two in the next day or so. In season two, we got to see Richard (Horner) as a more grown-up and self-confident character, just like in the Terry Goodkind books.

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="194" caption="Terry Goodkind"]/caption] A flawed Legend of the Seeker is better than no Seeker at all. Terry Goodkind, the author of the Sword of Truth books upon which the canceled syndicated fantasy series is based, has reportedly been critical of the show in the past, as a result of the liberties it's taken with the plot and characterization of the books. There have also been reports that he was no longer working directly with the producers, even in an advisory capacity. Even so, he has posted a letter on his website, coming out in support of the Save Our Seeker fan campaign to encourage a third season for the series: Legend of the Seeker has served as a wonderful new entry-point to the rich tales of the beloved world of Richard Cypher and Kahlan Amnell, characters that I first created in 1992.

Legend of the Seeker (TV) is in trouble. The action/fantasy series roughly based on The Sword of Truth novels by Terry Goodkind has seen two seasons, but may strike out at three. The show is produced by ABC Studios in first-run syndication and was dealt a critical blow when Tribune Station Group dropped it from numerous markets, significantly impacting its viewership area and ratings. During its two-season run, the show developed a strong and fervent fan base, and they aren't taking the news lying down. Networks cancel 'Legend Of The Seeker' TV show. According to "Entertainment Weekly," The cult fantasy show "Legend Of The Seeker," which I personally liked, has been officially canceled by the networks. They say multiple sources of theirs have confirmed that the show has been axed. The future of the show had been very bleak since last March because many of Tribune Station Group's markets decided to drop the show from their lineup. The series was developed by Terry Goodkind's fantasy novels by Hercules/Xena producers, which are Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert. ABC studios produced the show, and kept trying to sell it,but nobody wanted to buy it. So,unfortunately, business has once again ruined the future of another great show.

Despite a small but rabid fanbase that is actively trying to save the syndicated show, Legend of the Seeker is still expected to sunset on May 22. A spokeswoman for ABC Studios would not comment, but a source close to the show that's based on Terry Goodkind's fantasy novels said repeats will continue to run through early November but the studio is not expected to produce a third season. Given the current state of costly yet low-rated genre shows (see V, FlashForward), it's unlikely that Legend will find another production home. The show from Hercules/Xena: Warrior Princess producers Sam Raimi...

Yesterday, we were elated to bring you news that TNT had more guts and faith than NBC to renew Southland for another season. While we were so excited about the news, we neglected to notice that where a cable show gets a stay of execution, the fantasy series Legend of the Seeker gets the axe.
The series, based on the Sword of Truth book series by Terry Goodkind, had a good run, making it 40 episodes in 2 seasons, but it wasn’t pulling in the numbers that a network like The CW needed for it to survive. From EW:

Welcome to your Tuesday morning television briefing. In a surprise move, cabler TNT has ordered a third season of hyper-realistic cop drama Southland, commissioning ten episodes that will launch in January 2011. "Southland is a challenging, visceral show that engages viewers with its immersive style, provocative storylines and complex characters," said Michael Wright, Evp/head of programming, for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies, in a statement. "These qualities have made Southland a favorite among critics and appointment viewing for an extremely loyal audience." It's a sign of support from the cabler, which picked up the drama series after it was cancelled by NBC before it had even aired a single episode of its second season. TNT aired the six-episode sophomore season run earlier this year. [It's noted in this Variety article that the median viewer age of Southland--47--is younger than any other series on the channel.] (via press release) Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello is reporting that syndicated fantasy series Legend of the Seeker has been cancelled and will not be returning for a third season.

Sorry, Legend of the Seeker fans -- after two seasons, Seeker has been cancelled. The syndicated series, from Spiderman's Sam Raimi, was based on the Sword of Truth book series from Terry Goodkind and starred Craig Horner as the titular Seeker. The show suffered what turned out to be a fatal blow last month when Tribune Company decided not to renew their deal and air a third season due to low ratings. A majority of the stations that carried Seeker were owned by Tribune, and apparently Seeker's producers, ABC Studios, were not able to find sufficient replacements or a cable network to pick the show up.
One show that was able to get a cable network home, however, got some good news today: Southland has been renewed for a third season on TNT. The show was cancelled by NBC before it even got a chance to air the first...

Initially, writer and co-executive producer, Mike Sussman addressed fans in a tweet: “Everyone, please, chillax. #LegendOfTheSeeker has *not* been cancelled. Plans are going on for season three,” but that particular tweet has since been removed from Sussman’s Twitter profile.
Executive producer Kenneth Biller was asked about the final season two episodes:
“The last four episodes, I think, are going to be a really compelling and satisfying epic payoff to the quest that was set up at the very beginning...

Hey, fans of Legend of the Seeker: You know that 11th hour stay of execution you were hoping for? Well, you can stop hoping now — I'm hearing from multiple sources that the cult fave has been axed. The outlook had been bleak since last March, when many of Tribune Station Group's markets dropped the syndicated series, which had been developed from Terry Goodkind's fantasy novels by Hercules/Xena producers Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert. ABC Studios, which produces it, kept shopping it around. But, I'm told, they found no takers. So, after two action-packed seasons, Legend is history.

What's a feisty, confident, beautiful and tall (5'-9") actress to do? Well, if you're Bridget Regan, you audition for, win, and play the role of Kahlan, the butt-kicking, dagger-wielding woman of magic, called a Confessor, in Legend of the Seeker (TV). The television series, based on the Sword of Truth novels by Terry Goodkind, is now in its second season and doing just fine in first-run syndication. New episodes are currently airing, and Kahlan still loves and protects the would-be Seeker (Craig Horner), but can't ever be with him despite their mutual feelings for one another. Complicating matters is the presence of Cara (Tabrett Bethell), a tough-as-nails and gorgeous Mord'Sith now fighting for the forces of good along with Richard, Kahlan, and the wizard Zedd (Bruce Spence). PopStar recently caught up with Regan -- who hails from California, spent much of her early career in New York City, and shoots...

The second season of Legend Of The Seeker premieres this weekend, November 7-8, with a two-hour television event, beginning with last year’s season finale and then followed by “Marked,” Season Two’s inaugural episode. The show is based on Terry Goodkind’s 11-novel fantasy saga chronicling the adventures of Richard Cypher, Kahlan Amnell and Zeddicus Zu’l Zorander. The first book, Wizard’S First Rule, was published in 1994. The last, Confessor, was released in 2007.
Executive-produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, Joshua Donen, Ned Nalle and Kenneth Biller, Legend Of The Seeker debuted last November and had a first-season run of 22 episodes that roughly followed the events of Goodkind’s Wizard’S First Rule. To be openly honest, I haven’t read the Sword Of Truth books or seen the TV series, but Starlog covered the show in issues #371 & #372, and so I was familiar with the basic premise.

As I was saying, well, just yesterday (see here), Craig Horner and Bridget Regan, heroes of the syndicated saga Legend Of The Seeker, traveled to New York City’s Times Square from Terry Goodkind’s fantasy world on Thursday. And as befitting sword & sorcery heroes, they arrived via black stretch limousine. Conan usually shows up in a Hummer, but then, after all, he Is a barbarian.
Anyhow, because it was just six blocks from the Starlog offices (at 49th Street & Eighth Avenue), I made the peril-filled odyssey through legions of tourists downstream to Military Island, the triangular slab of concrete in front of ABC’s Good Morning America studios. I was on hand there to watch as Horner and Regan (as well as an octet of red-clad Mord’Sith sorceresses) held magical sway over the isle, interacted with the crowd and posed for the papparazzi. The most dramatic moment came...

It was chilly in Times Square Thursday morning, but there I was, standing, waiting for the sword & sorcery heroes. And after about a half-hour, they Did show up, arriving direct from the TV fantasy world into the heart of New York City via black stretch limousine. What a way to travel between mythical kingdom and civilization!
Well, if you haven’t guessed, this was a NYC press event held on “Military Island” (that isle of concrete between 44th Street and 43rd, bracketed lengthwise by Broadway and Seventh Avenue; its title derives from the U.S. Army Recruiting Station located on its south end for decades). You may have seen publicity events held there before—it’s directly in front of ABC’s Good Morning America studios, and the show regularly makes use of that Times Square turf to stage concerts, contests and other antics.

Guilty pleasures come in all forms. A few quickly spring to my slightly demented mind: s'mores, Bo Derek movies, Debbie Gibson (she's from my hometown and the girl can still sing), muffin tops, Xanadu. And these days, my television guilty pleasure is Legend of the Seeker, the campy, cheesetastic fantasy souffle from Spider-Man auteur Sam Raimi and his longtime creative partner, Rob Tapert. Together, these guys have given us such delicious TV junk food as Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Xena: Warrior Princess, Cleopatra 2525 and more, and Legend of the Seeker is right up there with the best of 'em. The show is based on Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth books, and it follows Richard (Craig Horner), who's destined be the titular heroic Seeker; Kahlan (Bridget Regan), a bewitching, butt-kicking Confessor and Richard's would-be great love; and Zedd (Bruce Spence), an eccentric and powerful wizard who accompanies Kahlan and Richard on their adventures.

I, like a lot of people, never bothered to watch Legend of the Seeker during its first season run despite rampant curiosity. With its release on DVD, viewers can catch up on what they missed and get set for the second season which debuts next month. Be warned, if you watch the first season, you will set the DVR for the second one. Prioritize now.

Swords, magic, young persons on a quest and good versus evil, all the elements for good fantasy are incorporated into the series Legend of the Seeker. Based on the universe within The Sword Of Truth novels of Terry Goodkind, Legend of the Seeker is entertaining and fun, and has become a .must see. program for many families. Good acting, attention to details and the incredible New Zealand geography as a backdrop for the action make Legend of the Seeker irresistible. In a place of beauty and magic, a world that contains Midlands, Westland and D.Hara a nefarious plan is taking place in which Darken Rahl (Craig Parker) emperor of D.Hara will conquer the rest of the...

Two Torches (Out of Five) Can I make a confession? I was shocked by how amateurishly written this book is. I've read plenty of poorly-written books in my life, but Terry Goodkind is literally one of publishing's highest paid authors, getting multi-million-dollar book advances. It's been years since I read any of his The Sword of Truth series, but I don't remember the writing there being nearly this ham-fisted. Is he pulling an "Anne Rice" -- becoming so successful that he's decided that he no longer needs an editor? Once The Law of Nines gets going (and once you get used to the awkward, pedestrian prose), Goodkind's gifts for storytelling become slightly more apparent.

I've been hearing about this little show called Legend of the Seeker since it debuted last year. Season one was just released on DVD, so I checked it out for Jane After Dark this week. It's a great show. In my neck of the woods, it airs Saturday afternoon at 4 Pm, which is a perfect time. If it aired during the regular primetime schedule, I'm afraid it would be eaten up by other shows, but the weekends are a nice home for it.
I've heard that Legend of the Seeker, based on The Sword of Truth novels by Terry Goodkind, is similar to Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess. As with Legend, both of these shows were produced by Sam Raimi and Robert G. Tapert.

AfterEllen.com reader Nikki alerted us to the lesbian storyline that will unfold in season 2 of The Legend of the Seeker, a fantasy series from Xena producer Sam Raimi that premiered last year. Based on novels from Terry Goodkind, season 2 (which begins in November) will show the relationship between characters Berdine and Raina.
There's only a second-long clip of a kiss between the two women in this promo, but the rest of it looks pretty intense as well. You'll have to wait about a minute and a half in to see the women lock lips.
While it is really much more complicated than I can explain in such brief terms, the storyline is centered around wizards, mud people and The Confessors, or the good guys who make sure the people of their magical land, the Midlands, are kept safe. Richard Cypher (Craig Horner) is a seeker (aka a hero) and one of the main characters,...
