Petr Cech’s agent has today suggested his client could quit Chelsea and join either Paris Saint-Germain or Monaco this summer, according to the Evening Standard.
The two French clubs have made an enquiry into the availability of the goalkeeper this summer, who remains uncertain of his future at Stamford Bridge.
The Czech shot-stopper has been the Blues’ first choice keeper ever since joining from Rennes in a £7 million deal in 2004, but his position at the club is now under threat from Thibaut Courtois.
Courtois is returning from a three year loan spell at Atletico Madrid this summer and manager Jose Mourinho is considering making the Belgian his No.1.
The 22-year-old has been offered a new contract at the SW6 outfit and has previously insisted he will only consider staying in west London if he can be assured of regular first team football.

Lukasz Fabianski may have been Arsenal’s Fa Cup hero, but the goalkeeper’s decision to leave the Gunners has left Arsene Wenger with a void in his squad which needs filling. After seven years with the North London side, Fabianski has moved to Swansea City, a club where he should receive the first team football he desires.
Although the Poland international was only used in the cup competitions by Wenger, his role within the squad should not be underestimated. He provided current number one, Wojciech Szczesny, with competition and spurred the 24-year-old on when complacency appeared to be creeping into his game.
Finding a back-up goalkeeper is notoriously difficult. Very few players are happy to just sit on the bench, especially when they are in the earlier stages of their career. Consequently, clubs have been looking to sign experienced goalkeepers as their number two option.

Stoke City won their last meeting with Chelsea in December, but it was their first victory in 13 attempts. In among those encounters were ten Blues wins, including a 7-0 and 4-0.
Mark Hughes thus achieved something predecessor Tony Pulis never did by beating his former club. Now the Potters travel to Stamford Bridge in the last tie of Fa Cup fourth round weekend. Stoke reached the final in 2011, but were runners-up to Manchester City.
No team in England has dominated this competition like Chelsea in recent years. They have featured in four of the last seven Fa Cup finals, winning all of them. The first of those came in 2007 during Jose Mourinho’s first spell as Blues boss.
The Potters have lost four of their last six matches, but their single recent win came in the cup when they knocked Championship leaders Leicester City out in the last round.

Eden Hazard and Fernando Torres scored the goals that took Chelsea top of the Premier League with victory at Hull City.
Steve Bruce reverted to ten of his starting XI from the Tigers’ last league encounter after making wholesale changes for the Fa Cup win at Middlesbrough. George Boyd replaced Robert Koren in the only alteration to the side that lost at Liverpool.
Jose Mourinho meanwhile made four changes from the victory at Derby County. Mark Schwarzer, John Oni Mikel, Samuel Eto’o and Michael Essien all dropped out. Regulars Petr Cech, Hazard and John Terry returned. Torres got the nod to lead the Blues attack.
Chelsea ground out these three points at the Kc Stadium after Hull’s encouraging start. Key saves were then made Allan McGregor, but the home defence was breached twice in the second half.

Rams boss Steve McClaren was forced into making two changes after his side saw their unbeaten run end when Wigan beat them at home on New Year’s Day. Goalscoring midfielder Craig Bryson and Johnny Russell both missed out injured, so Simon Dawkins – signed permanently from Spurs in the week – and Jeff Hendrick started.

John Obi Mikel marked his 300th game for Chelsea by scoring the first of two second half goals against Championship promotion contenders Derby County. Oscar rounded off victory for the visitors at Pride Park as they advanced in the Fa Cup.
Both sides presented early danger with Blues skipper Michael Essien rolling back the years by breaking into the box from deep. Rams forward Jamie Ward meanwhile saw an effort deflected wide after good holdup play by Chris Martin.
Samuel Eto’o looked to be in behind County on 20 minutes, but Liverpool loanee Andre Wisdom got back at him superbly to snuff out the danger. Ward continued to cause problems at the other end with Gary Cahill blocking two further efforts.

Ki Sung Yueng’s extra time winner sent Sunderland through to the Capital One Cup semi-finals as Chelsea crashed out. Fabio Borini came off the bench to cancel out a Lee Cattermole own goal and then combined with fellow sub Ki to shock the visitors.
Andre Schurrle dragged wide for Chelsea late in a first half that neither side got much of a grip on. Less than a minute after the break, however, the visitors went ahead through Lampard when he connected with Cesar Azpilicueta’s right wing centre and it went in off Cattermole.
Vito Mannone in nets for Sunderland desperately tried to claw the ball back out, but referee Anthony Taylor used goal-line technology to confirm the award. Samuel Eto’o then dragged wide with a clear sight.

One of the highlights of the footballing calender year is without a doubt the summer transfer window and the prospect of seeing a new star man at your club, and even else where if you are a proper football fan.
The arrival of the likes of Yaya Toure, Carlos Tevez in his West Ham United days and even Luis Suarez (Biting aside) in the Premier League surely left the majority of fans anticipating the talent they had to provide on the pitch, but lets not forget Robinho, it never always works out!
However, it’s not just about big money being spent to “buying yourself to glory” as such, Michael Ballack made a high profile move to Stamford Bridge and not a penny was spent, and the same could be said for the likes of Mark Schwarzer, Sol Campbell and Jay Jay Okocha to Fulham, Arsenal and Bolton Wanderers respectively.

Chelsea came through their Capital One Cup tie with Arsenal and reached the quarter-finals thanks to goals from Spanish pair Cesar Azpilicueta and Juan Mata.
Jose Mourinho won his 200th match in charge of the Blues, inflicting a second successive home defeat on the Gunners.
Arsene Wenger saw his record of making the last eight for a decade end as his charges put in a fairly limp display in front of their own fans.
The match had plenty of subplots and things to tell us even if Arsenal failed to make it much of a contest before turning to their bench.
Here are five things we picked up from it:

The long-awaited return of the “Special One” Jose Mourinho to Chelsea and the Premier League this summer promises to shake up England’s top flight and give the Blues a much-needed shot in the arm.
The West London club haven’t won the Premier League since 2010 now, while since then, Mourinho has been on his travels in Italy and Spain winning the Champions League and La Liga.
And the charismatic Portuguese boss has wasted no time in stamping his own footprint on Chelsea following his return for a second stint in charge, bringing in goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, midfielder Marco van Ginkel and striker André Schürrle.
There’s also talk of what would be a huge transfer deal being completed for Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney, which really would be typical of Mourinho – always one to make a grand entrance.
But what of matters at the opposite end of the spectrum?...

The Al Fayed era has come to an end with their new sugar daddy, Shahid Khan at the Fulham helm going into the new season. Fulham’s Premier League performances during the Al Fayed years would be best described as solid rather than spectacular, and their pre season signings would appear to follow suit.
With Mark Schwarzer having departed to warm the bench at The Bridge, Fulham have recruited Dutch international Maarten Stekelenburg as the man to fill his gloves. The addition of on loan midfield maverick Adel Taraabt could prove an intelligent piece of business if his old boss Martin Jol can maximise his potential. The Moroccan showed glimpses of his true class last season with Qpr but the jury is still out, with his temperemant still in question. Fernando Amorebieta and Derek Boateng...

Chelsea have been reasonably active in this summer’s transfer market following the return of the “Special One” Jose Mourinho as manager of the Stamford Bridge club.
Veteran goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, exciting central midfielder Marco van Ginke and promising striker Andre Schurrle have all joined the Blues in recent months.
And it appears as though the West London club’s involvement in the transfer window is coming to a close with Mourinho recently revealing he only has one more target, but a little bit more on that later.
The Portuguese boss is keen to address his forward line this summer and few can blame him given the Blues’ strike force struggled at times last season.
Fernando Torres, the British-transfer-record £50 million acquisition from Liverpool, has very rarely looked like living up to his enormous price tag since quitting Anfield in 2011.

Following the re-appointment of “Special One” Jose Mourinho as Chelsea manager this summer, the Portuguese coach has wasted no time in stamping his authority on the Blues during the current transfer window.
Already three new recruits have been brought in, with Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, Vitesse Arnhem midfielder Marco van Ginkel and Bayer Leverkusen striker Andre Schurrle all joining the new Stamford Bridge revolution in recent months.
And, yes, there has been a bid for a certain Wayne Rooney, too.
After the Blues saw their opening offer for the Manchester United striker fail, Mourinho revealed Rooney is the Londoner’s only transfer target this summer.
And that’s why it’d be surprising if we saw any more activity in this transfer market from the Europa League winners.
However, with another 33 days of the window left to go, nothing should be ruled out and the Blues’ failure to capture Rooney...

Chelsea’s second friendly in their 2013 summer tour of the Far East, saw them up against a Malaysia XI and playing in a tropical humid heat in the Shah Alam stadium on the outskirts of Kaula Lumpur, and in front of noisy Asian supporters mostly donning the familiar blue strip.
Chelsea took to the pitch with 11 players, of which only one Marco van Ginkel was meant to play longer than 45 minutes.
In a 4 –2 – 3 – 1 formation, Chelsea lined up with Australian Mark Schwarzer in goal, Bertrand, Jt, Chalobah and Ivanovic across the back 4, the aforementioned Van Ginkel and old hand Michael Essien in front of them, and a midfield trio of De Bruyne, Traore and Hazard providing support to former West Brom loanee Romelu Lukaku up front.

Chelsea have confirmed the surprise signing of veteran goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer.
The 40-year-old Australian international legend joins on a one-year deal, having been released by Chelsea’s West London rivals Fulham at the end of last season.
Returning Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho had been on the hunt for a new back-up ‘keeper and in the past week had made two offers for Norwich and England stopper John Ruddy. Both bids were rejected by the Canaries, where Ruddy is their number one goalkeeper.
The rejection of the second offer seems to forced Mourinho to look elsewhere, and he has moved fast to bring the vastly experienced Schwarzer to Stamford Bridge. He will now provide cover following the departures of the recently released Hilario and Ross Turnbull, whose respective contracts ran out this summer, and also Thibaut Courtois, who was again loaned out to Atletico Madrid for the forthcoming season.

Tottenham Hotspur blew a great opportunity to extend their lead over Arsenal and consolidate their third place position in the Premier League in a forgettable match at White Hart Lane.
Spurs started brightly with man of the moment Gareth Bale back in the side and the Welshman immediately looked lively, getting in on the action from the off.
A couple of early corners were awarded to spurs as they pressured Fulham and it was Bale’s header from Gylfi Sigurdsson’s in-swinger that was cleared off the line – the first real chance of the match in the 6th minute.
A quiet spell ensued, as the match became somewhat disjointed, in which neither team seriously threatened for some time, but it was a spell in which Fulham did seem to grow a little in confidence.

There is only one good thing about January. You’ve already broken your resolutions that you promised you’d stick to this time. You’ve suffered the return to work / university / school after a lovely long break over Christmas. And if you’re a Liverpool fan, you’ve had to watch your team fall to the mighty, mighty Oldham, in what was surely the best upset of this year’s Fa Cup so far. Yet, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Deadline Day.

According to the Mail Online, Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Paul Robinson is now on Fulham’s wanted list after his move to Besiktas stalled.
After Blackburn failed to remain the Premier League last season after a dismal campaign, many players have signalled their intentions to move on, including Robinson. Even though the 32-year-old goalkeeper has one year left on his contract, it seems the former England goalkeeper wants to play in the Premier League no matter what.
Robinson joined Ewood Park in 2008 from Tottenham for around £3.5 million and has made over 150 appearances for Blackburn. He did everything to try and keep his club from slipping into the Championship.
Robinson looked set for Turkish side Besiktas, but the deal has now been put on hold, which has sparked interest from Fulham. It is unclear whether any other teams will be interested in the player now the deal with Besiktas has stalled, although...

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini still can’t field suspended striker Mario Balotelli or African Cup of Nations duo Kolo Toure and Yaya Toure, who are still away with the Ivory Cost. New signing David Pizarro, who joined on loan from Roma this week, could play.
Defenders Micah Richards and Vincent Kompany are expected to have overcome their minor knocks to play.

(P.S. – I am a Newcastle United fan, so as always my match previews are bias and for the like minded);
Alan Pardew’s Newcastle United go into today’s 3pm Premier League kick-off at Fulham perhaps on their biggest confidence run of the season. They are on the backs of three straight wins, a thrashing of Manchester United a home, a last gasp winner to progress in the Fa Cup against Blackburn and a 1-0 home win last week against Queens Park Rangers. They are up to sixth in the league, only behind fifth place Arsenal by two goals difference and one point ahead of Liverpool.
Although nobody is seriously talking Champions League at Newcastle, they are today at least within touching distance of fourth place and have just secured a huge £10 million move for Demba Ba’s international team mate Papiss Demba Cisse, a goal machine. And if...

The first London derby of 2012 sees Fulham entertain Arsenal at Craven Cottage and Martin Jol will be wary of his side’s new found liking for conceding late goals. Amazingly, almost half of their last 20 matches (9 in fact) have seen them let in a goal in the 88th minute or beyond. An incredible stat and one that has cost them a dangerous amount of points in the league and a place in the Europa League competition.
Arsenal on the other hand are a side stream-rolling on form. Another win just two days ago has helped them rise from 15th to a Champions League place of fourth and they have battered some of the sides they have played. Robin Van Persie is showing to be one of the greatest players in the world with his prolific run of form and with an Arsenal hero in Thierry Henry likely to be in...

Michel Vorm was once again the hero for Swansea City after his master class display between the posts to ensure Swansea City another three points at home. The Dutchman was on fine form for the Swans, preventing numerous goalscoring opportunities for Fulham including a late penalty taken by Clint Dempsey.
There were multiple changes for both teams’ starting eleven. Brendan Rodgers had obviously taken notice of the impressive substitute performances from Luke Moore and Wayne Routledge at their defeat to Blackburn last week with both players making the starting XI. Steven Caulker also returned for his first game since picking up an injury at Arsenal in September.
For Fulham the changes were forced due to injury. Danny Murphy was expected to make a recovery for the game but failed to make the bench. Bobby Zamora was another notable absence as Martin Jol decided to rest his England international with Andy Johnson...

It’s often said that the best teams can play poorly and still come away with three points. That’s a cliché of course but it proved relevant today as Tottenham came away with a 3-1 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage, despite their opponents having the better of the game. Two own goals, one from Chris Baird, the other from Younes Kaboul,a fine effort from Aaron Lennon and a Jermain Defoe goal ultimately decided the day. A good win for Spurs, but Fulham can count themselves very unfortunate indeed.
So Martin Jol against his former club. The Dutchman did a good job at White Hart Lane, but Daniel Levy decided he’d see if Juande Ramos could do a better job without the courtesy of sacking Jol first. He learned his lesson though when Ramos’ reign was ultimately short-lived and a tad topsy turvy. Tottenham have been walking...

The big story for Spurs in the week was Harry Redknapp undergoing heart surgery, an operation that will keep him missing from today’s game. So the only Spurs manager in the dugout will be a former one, Fulham boss and former Tottenham favourite Martin Jol. Going into the game the talk on many pundits lips has been whether Spurs can continue their rich vein of form with a win over their London peers without Harry, but the team will no doubt be aware of what is expected from them today and will be hoping to send the perfect get well soon message.
This is two attack minded sides and with the Sky camera’s showing this game on their marquee Super Sunday slot, they obviously believe we are in store for a cracker this afternoon.

What better place to start this week than at the beginning? Kind of like Genesis, nothing to do with Phil Collins mind, I refer to that story of God creating the world in seven days. I’m not here for theological debate mind you, despite being told I am quite the pub philosopher.
Following a similar tack to Genesis, with Arsene Wenger assuming the role of God, the Frenchman plucked Arsenal from the doldrums of Bruce Rioch. Light from where there was once only dark, creating stars from nothing and so on and so forth.
The simile would be even more fitting if Genesis then detailed God’s master plan of removing the stars and replacing them with eco-friendly, energy saving light bulbs, a result of the seventh day resting on transfer deadline day. Why one would only be able to purchase light bulbs during the transfer window I don’t know,...

Like the vagrant at a bus stop that won’t leave you alone, here I am to give you my Premiership round up for week four of the Barclay’s Premier League. I feel like this should be followed by a dramatic orchestral score, alas, this is a single media experience.
Following a brief break in play for international fixtures, Liverpool looked to maintain their bright start to the season away from home to Stoke City.
With several years of careful buying, dogged support and astute management from Tony Pulis, the Potters have firmly established themselves as a solid top flight team. Having spent well on players such as Jonathan Woodgate, Wilson Palacios and Peter Crouch, they have improved a side that reached the Fa Cup final last season and already boasts the likes of Ryan Shawcross, Kenwyene Jones and Jermaine Pennant.

A slow Sunday of football culminated in a turgid clash between Fulham and Blackburn that ended in an uninspired draw. Neither side would be happy with the 1-1 result, both desperately needing a win but having to settle for a point after two spectacular goals from Ruben Rochina and Bobby Zamora which stood out against a backdrop of dull football. Junior Hoilett picked up what looked like a serious injury in the last minute to add further misery to the display.
A win for West Brom earlier in the day meant that this game at Craven Cottage was fought between the bottom two teams in the league, with Blackburn and Fulham picking up a solitary point between them in their opening three games. Things seemed to picking up for the London side though, with new £10 million signing Bryan Ruiz in the starting line up along with long term absentee Bobby Zamora,...

Two second half goals from Leon Best and a string of world class saves from their Dutch international goalkeeper Tim Krul gave Newcastle United a 2-1 home victory over Fulham in the Premier League this afternoon.
After a boring first half with tame attacking efforts from both sides, it would be the Irishman’s skilful second goal on the 66th minute mark that looked like it would kill the tie and the home side were relatively comfortable for large spells as a comeback from the London site seemed unlikely. Though it would be a Clint Dempsey header from a Danny Murphy free-kick with two minutes left on the clock, plus five minutes of injury time awarded that left the home fans with their hearts in their mouths as Fulham threw everything at them in the final moments to try and snatch a point.

The teams have been announced;
Newcastle: Krul, Simpson, Steven Taylor, Coloccini, Ryan Taylor, Lovenkrands, Cabaye, Tiote, Gutierrez, Obertan, Best.
Subs: Soderberg, Smith, Ba, Marveaux, Sammy Ameobi, Vuckic, Ferguson.
Fulham: Schwarzer, Briggs, Hughes, Hangeland, Baird, Dempsey, Murphy, Sidwell, Donegan, Dembele, Kasami.
Subs: Etheridge, Kelly, Johnson, Senderos, Gecov, Etuhu, Frei.
Referee: Kevin Friend (Leicestershire)
So clearly Shola Ameobi wasn’t fit which is a big loss and it’s Best over Ba that gets the nod. Obertan does end up front as support… with Lovenkrands again on the right. Interestingly no defender on the bench, Pardew picking Alan Smith and Shane Ferguson instead and no place at all for Dan Gosling.
Match kicks off at 1pm.
(I am a lifelong Newcastle United supporter so expect my match previews to be heavy slanted towards the Geordies as they are written for the like-minded).
