Two-time Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins has signed on to star in Eyes in the Trees, a reimagining of H.G. Wells’ The Island of Dr. Moreau, which is co-written by “The Bay” and “Days of Our Lives” actor Mike Manning.
According to Deadline, Hopkins will portray a geneticist who has been isolated after the government stopped funding his research following the violent outbreak of one of his test subjects. Later, two renowned filmmakers and their crew embark on a journey of discovery, only to find their excursion turned into a fight for survival for themselves and the entire human race.
First published in 1896 by Wells, several adaptations of “The Island of Dr. Moreau” have since followed, including 1932’s “Island of Los Souls” and the a 1977 film “The Island of Dr. Moreau,” which starred actor Burt Lancaster. The classic H.G. Wells story The Island of Dr. Moreau has been adapted multiple times in various different ways over the years – I’d personally like to recommend Island of Lost Souls, the classic 1932 adaptation starring Charles Laughton and Bela Lugosi – and Deadline reports that Anthony Hopkins has just come on board to star in the latest adaptation.
Hopkins will star in Eyes in the Trees for director Timothy Woodward Jr., being described as a “reimagining of the classic H.G. Wells novel The Island of Dr. Moreau.”

The 1996 version of The Island of Dr. Moreau, which was directed by John Frankenheimer (who replaced Richard Stanley after half a week of filming), is a well-known disaster, but that was just one of many cinematic adaptations H.G. Wells’ 1896 novel has received over the years. That novel has inspired the 1932 classic Island of Lost Souls, 1959’s Terror Is a Man, 1972’s The Twilight People, a 1977 film that actually kept the The Island of Dr. Moreau title, the Full Moon production Dr. Moreau’s House of Pain, and more. Now we can add another title to the list, as Deadline reports that Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins has signed on to star in the The Island of Dr. Moreau reimagining Eyes in the Trees.

On the JoBlo Movies YouTube channel, we will be posting one full movie every day of the week, giving viewers the chance to watch them entirely free of charge. The Free Movie of the Day we have for you today is the crime comedy Garlic & Gunpowder, originally released in 2017. That sounds like it could be the title of a story that involves vampires, but really, this one is not a horror movie. You can watch the movie over on the YouTube channel linked above, or you can just watch it in the embed at the top of this article.
B. Harrison Smith directed Garlic & Gunpowder from a screenplay he crafted with Steven Chase and Zachary Sasim. Here’s the story: A comet is on track to destroy the planet – or not, depending on who you talk to. The world’s top 1 aren’t taking any chances and are planning on...

Basically obligated to make another Halloween sequel but hoping to leave Michael Myers behind, producers John Carpenter and Debra Hill decided to try to turn the franchise into an anthology series, where each film would tell a different story set on Halloween. Nigel Kneale was hired to write the initial script for what became Halloween III: Season of the Witch (watch it Here), and Carpenter and Hill’s pal Tommy Lee Wallace was hired to direct the film. After watching his movie get rejected by viewers when it was released in 1982 and then gain cult classic status over the decades, Wallace has taken it upon himself to write a tell-all book about the production of his Halloween sequel. The book is titled Halloween 3: Where the Hell is Michael Myers? – The Definitive History of Horror’s Most Misunderstood Film, and is going to be available from Bear Manor Media this November.

"What the hell did you kids do?!" Lionsgate has released an official trailer for an indie horror movie called Where The Scary Things Are, the latest creation from filmmaker B. Harrison Smith. This premiered at the Horror Hounds Film Festival and will be on VOD in June this summer. A group of teenagers inspired by a high school "Create Your Own Urban Legend" project quickly get out of hand in their greedy desire for more "likes" and going viral with deadly consequences. It seems that they end up creating some kind of real urban legend monster, and film him to prove he's real ending up becoming a viral sensation - but it's also really killing people. Or so it seems from the trailer? The ensemble cast includes Paul Cottman, Michael Cervantes, Peter F. Cote, Quinn Andrew Fickes, Selina Flanscha, Oliver Givens, Emma Lim, Asher Ruppert, & Riley Sullivan. The dialogue in this trailer is pretty bad,...

This year has seen every film festival struggling to find ways to present new films to their audience safely, without risk of infection, in the midst of a global pandemic. And after long and serious discussion, Grimmfest will be going ahead in a new format for 2020 – offering a roster of feature film premieres and shorts programmes across a new online platform.
Grimmfest’s live event at the Odeon Great Northern, Manchester, will be postponed until spring 2021. But fear not, a new online alternative “virtual festival” will run from 7 – 11 October 2020 and will present over 19 features, two short film showcases, and an exclusive Q&a with the Master of Horror himself, Mick Garris, who will also be receiving a Lifetime achievement award.
And what’s more, Grimmfest have released info on the first selection of premieres that will screen as part of the new venture. From the press release:

Horror seems to be making a comeback with a new wave of films now receiving both critical acclaim, as well as financial success at the box office. Just by attaching the names of writer/director James Wan or Production Company Blumhouse, seems to have enough momentum to make it a box office hit. So with the public now paying to get scared again, here are the top five horror films worth looking out for in 2017.
Death House (Release Date: Tbc)

With jump scare film franchises like The Conjuring (2013-2016) and Insidious (2010 -2018) dominating at the box office, it will take something special to change the trend, but that is something Death House is looking to initiate.
Based on an original concept by Gunnar Hansen to bring the icons of horror together the cast reflects his vision perfectly; and for any icons not featured in the original, 5 sequels are already planned for the franchise.

Actress Gabrielle Stone has been hard at work in recent years, with a particular presence in the horror genre via roles in movies such as Death House and Tom Holland's Rock Paper Dead. For our latest Q&A feature, we caught up with Stone to discuss getting behind the camera for her directorial debut, working with Tony Todd, upcoming projects, and more.
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Gabrielle. You’ve stayed busy as an actress over the past several years, and you have several exciting projects coming up. What can you tell us about your role in the new movie Death House, which features an all-star lineup of horror icons?
Gabrielle Stone: I can't say too much without giving plot lines away, but my character appears in the very end of the film opposite Tony Todd. It's safe to say my character leads into the sequel,...

This weekend I went to the Son of Monsterpalooza horror convention and attended a panel for a new horror movie coming out called Death House, and this movie looks absolutely insane!
The movie was directed by B. Harrison Smith, who says that he made Death House as a way to help reinvigorate the horror genre. He's an ambitious guy who hopes the film will be a cultural timepiece for the genre. The team behind the film didn't set out to make a cheap-ass horror film for the sake of making a cheap-ass horror film. They wanted to make something great, something that hardcore horror fans would respect and appreciate. The movie is also packed full of horror movie Easter eggs.
Dee Wallace (E.T., Cujo, The Hollowing) is one of the film's stars, and she says that Death House is one of the most unique horror film projects that she's ever been a part of.

Despite Deadpool smashing all box-office records in every corner of the world ($132.7 million in Three Freaking Days — and that’s just in North America!), that’s not the only news that broke this Valentine’s weekend.
In case you, too, were ensconced in a Ryan Reynolds bubble since Friday, take a gander at these other developments:
• Am I dreaming?! News broke this weekend that Death House is a thing. With a script by the late Gunnar Hansen (a.k.a. Texas Chain Saw Massacre’s Leatherface) and Harrison Smith (director of Camp Dread) the flick is set to star a who’s who of horror: Robert Englund (Freddy — obviously — from A Nightmare On Elm Street), Kane Hodder (Jason from Friday The 13th), Doug Bradley (Pinhead from Hellraiser), Dee Wallace (Cujo, The Howling), Barbara Crampton (Re-animator), and Danny Trejo (well … everything), among others. Being called an Expendables for the scare set,...

Last year Bruce Campbell talked about an idea for a horror movie that he described as The Expendables of horror films — a film that would bring together a ton of classic horror stars together in one movie. It was a great idea that got horror fans really excited and is now being brought to life. Unfortunately, it’s not coming from Bruce Campbell.
The movie is being directed by B. Harrison Smith, who has made a few movies that I’ve never heard of like Camp Dread and Zombie Killers: Elephant Graveyard. The script for the film was written by the late Gunnar Hansen, who is best known for playing Leatherface in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre films.
The cast of the movie is pretty impressive and includes Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th), Doug Bradley (Hellraiser), Bill Moseley (House of a 1000 Corpses), Michael Berryman...

A new horror film will unite all of the icons of the genre in one epic, bloody fight for survival, similar to the lassoing in of action legends in The Expendables franchise. Dubbed Death House, the movie will focus on the “Area 51 of evil,” where a government facility holds all of humanity’s worst death-dealers underground.
Who are they? You’ll probably recognize a bunch of icons from movies like A Nightmare on Elm Street and Re-Animator: Robert Englund, Danny Trejo, Michael Berryman, Kane Hodder, Dee Wallace, Bill Moseley, Barbara Crampton, Doug Bradley, Ken Foree, Camille Keaton and Don Shanks, among others.
Gunnar Hansen, the face of Leatherface in the original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, was set to be in the film before he passed away last November from pancreatic cancer. Hansen wrote the script for the film before he died, while Harrison Smith is set to direct the mayhem.

I love horror anthology films and like many of you out there, Creepshow is the one I judge all others against. Released in 1982, George A. Romero and Stephen King's tribute to EC Comics is filled with talented actors, but Adrienne Barbeau really steals the show as Billie, a character that couldn't be more different from who Adrienne really is. As a Halloween treat for our readers, I caught up with her to talk about her role in "The Crate," convention appearances, her work as an author, and more.
How did you first hear about Creepshow and what were your impressions of Stephen King's screenplay?
My agents sent me the script along with an offer to play "just call me Billie - everyone does". I read it and thought, oh no, this is way too bloody for me. At that time, I think the only horror film I'd ever...
