An emotional Dr. Heather Gulish Melton appeared on NBC’s Today show Wednesday and shared memories of husband Sonny Melton — who died saving her life in Sunday’s mass shooting in Las Vegas.
“I lost half my heart,” an emotional Heather told Today anchor Savannah Guthrie. “It was a love that I had never experienced before. It was the kind of love that fills you up every single day. We loved being together and people felt how much we loved each other. I will carry that with me forever. I don’t know that I’ll ever experience that kind of love again.

A 29-year-old Tennessee man saved his wife’s life before he was killed in Sunday’s mass shooting in Las Vegas, which killed at least 58 people and wounded at least 515.
Sonny Melton, a registered nurse from Big Sandy, was attending the Route 91 Harvest Festival with his wife, Dr. Heather Gulish Melton, who spoke with the radio station Wycb.
“At this point, I’m in complete disbelief and despair,” she told the station. “I don’t know what to say. Sonny was the most kind-hearted, loving man I have ever met. He saved my life and lost his.”

When Jim Bob Duggar became aware that his eldest son was allegedly molesting underage girls, the family decided to handle the incident privately instead of immediately reporting the accusations to police.
Sixteen months elapsed between the time Jim Bob learned of his son's self-admitted "wrongdoing" and Josh Duggar's official admission to Arkansas state trooper Cpl. Hutchins – who gave him a "very stern talk" but did not press charges, according to police reports obtained by InTouch but which have now been expunged.

History is heading back into the world of Hatfields & McCoys -- this time for real. Following a strong showing in the Golden Globe nominations early Thursday morning, the cable network is developing a reality series about the descendants of the once-feuding Hatfield and McCoy families, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The bitter feud started during the late-19th century in Tug Fork, right off the Big Sandy River along the Kentucky and West Virginia border. In 2003, a truce was made between the two families. The move comes after the miniseries event, starring Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton, drew

If you're a fan of Pearl Jam and Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.), you're in luck.
The band will be in Missoula for a Sept. 30 concert, and Tester is raffling off the chance for one of his contributors and their guest to watch the entire show on stage in recliners. As the Tester email to supporters pointed out on Tuesday: "The band has Never done this before."
The winner also gets dinner with Tester and Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament, who supports the senator. Tester is running against Rep. Denny Rehberg (R-Mont.) for reelection.
"Jon is the real deal," said Ament in a statement. "He's a hardworking Montana farmer who has never forgotten who he works for or where he comes from. He's one of us, a rare gem who truly represents Montanans in D.C. I look forward to joining folks from across Montana in support of Jon to reelect him in November.

No other folk do blood feuds like Mason-Dixon Line Americans. Wedged between the Smoky Mountains and the Mississippi is enough pure meanness to power New York City from now until the Mayan Doomsday. They may pronounce themselves zealots for the religion of “turn the other cheek,” but hillbillies make Sicilian mobsters look laid back.
Of all the famed conflicts between Jayhawks and Bushwackers, State Line mobsters and small-town Sheriffs, moonshiners and claim jumpers, one stands out in the annals of American history: The Hatfield-McCoy feud. If American vengeance had a brand, it would be Hatfield-McCoy.
Nobody did eye-for-an-eye like these good old boys. And yet nobody knows much about them. The grit of their conflict has been washed under a sugary tide of commercialism, relegating their deep human suffering to the stuff of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, dinner theater.
Until now. Until here, loyal reader. Because in honor of what looks...

By Juli Thanki Every two weeks, titans of the mediasphere give Nerve their music recommendations. This week, it’s Juli Thanki, editor of Engine145.com , a country, roots, and bluegrass blog. 1. Eilen Jewell, Queen of the Minor Key The Boston-based Jewell covers a variety of musical styles on her fourth album. From the fierce rockabilly of "Warning Signs" to "Only One," which sounds like a long-lost jazz standard, to the old-school country duet "Long Road" (with Big Sandy), the whole record is a keeper. My favorite track: "Bang Bang Bang," a sinister look at Cupid, who, in this song, wields a "sawed-off six gauge." [...]...

Sen. Jon Tester hunts, farms, has seven fingers, and could well determine his party's fate in 2012. So why are liberals at his throat?
Jon Tester, United States senator, is face down in the mud. Earlier today, Tester and his wife, Sharla, drove from Great Falls, Mont., to their home, T-Bone Farms, 80 miles northeast. It's a journey the Testers have been making nearly every weekend since Jon joined the Senate in January 2007. As usual, they followed the Teton River through sloping sandstone canyons and out onto a vast expanse of flat, treeless farmland, with only the occasional man-made interruption: the United Grain silos in Kershaw, the Ace High Casino in Loma, a billboard about chewing tobacco. "Quitting Was Tough," it said, "But I'm Tougher." The trip took 80 minutes.

The cameramen for Spike TV’s new reality show Coal, from Deadliest Catch’s Thom Beers, are doing an undeniably good job documenting the lives of the miners who work Cobalt Coal in Big Sandy, W. Va. So good, in fact, that after viewing the first episode of the series, the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration and state Officer of Miners’ Health, Safety and Training cited Cobalt Coal for various violations that endangered miners. The Associated Press details the citations, which range from improper use of tools to individual miners failing to wear the correct reflective clothing or proper eye protection.

Thom Beers, exec producer of Deadliest Catch, Ice Road Truckers, and Ax Men, is known for being the king of the dangerous job genre of reality TV. Without that reputation for delivering quality, guilt-free Testosterone TV (something he’ll speak about at next month’s Nab Show in Las Vegas), his latest docu-series, Spike Coal’s, premiering March 30, may never have happened. It took Beers four years to find the right coal mine to turn his cameras on: He needed a company willing to trust that he would show what working underground is really like (that’s where his credits...

Some people celebrate their 40th birthday with a nice dinner out, maybe a trip to Las Vegas or an extravagant purchase like a car they really can't afford. Kid Rock, as you must surely have noticed at this point, is not most people.
That's why the American Badass is tipping his hat to the big 4-0 with the biggest headlining date of his career at Detroit's Ford Field, his hometown 60,000-seat football stadium, as part of the upcoming tour in support of his new album, Born Free.
With country outlaw Jamey Johnson set to open the first leg of the tour, Rock will get things started right on January 15 with the blowout gig at the home of the Detroit Lions, which will be renamed "40 Field" for the night in honor of Rock's b-day.

Pearl Jam star Jeff Ament has opened his very own skateboard park in his hometown of Big Sandy, Montana. The bassist funded the $40,000 project earlier this year and building on the recreation site was completed on Tuesday, October 12.
Ament hit the park in the early hours of Wednesday, October 13 to test out his skills on the skateboard and give the venue his seal of approval, according to local reports.
The rocker is planning to donate skateboards and safety equipment, like helmets and pads, to local children who can't afford their own gear, and he is also hoping to bring some of his famous professional skater pals to Big Sandy to put on a show in 2011.
