In case you were wondering what Jared Leto was up to this morning, the chameleon-like actor and frontman of the rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars was busy climbing New York City’s iconic Empire State Building! Yup! You know, like you do!
Leto engaged in the first-ever complete climb of the landmark on the morning of November 9. Leto says he’s been fascinated with the historic building since he was a kid and could not think of a better way to celebrate the launch of Thirty Seconds to Mars’ 2024 tour than by scaling the massive structure. “The building is a testament of all the things that can be done in the world if we put our minds to it,” Jared explains, “which is largely the inspiration behind our most recent album, It’s The End Of The World But It’s A Beautiful Day.”

Showing some love to his Australian fans, Jared Leto landed at Sydney International Airport on Monday morning (March 24).
Joined by his 30 Seconds to Mars bandmate Tomo Milicevic, the “Kings and Queens” rocker looked comfortable in a black hoodie over a “Death By Flash” t-shirt and black trousers as he wheeled his luggage out to a chauffeured car.
In related news, Leto told the Evening Standard’s Deluxe Magazine that he contemplated dressing like a lady for the 2014 Academy Awards (where he won Best Supporting Actor for his role in “Dallas Buyers Club”).
Jared explained, “I thought about dragging up for the Oscars, going as Rayon, because I knew that she would have loved to be there. It’s so much work for girls to get ready. I was brought up by my mom, so I always had an appreciation of women. But now I have more respect for the process.

Jared Leto isn't taking the stage at tonight's Grammy Awards, but he took the red carpet by storm in La with his band, Thirty Seconds to Mars. He looked dapper in a long black coat with gold and red accents with his brother Shannon - who accompanied him to a few other award shows this season - and bandmate Tomo Milicevic. Singer and Fifty Shades of Grey star Rita Ora also jumped in on a few of their photos, and Jared posed and hugged her excitedly. But the real fun happened when Jared was spotted with Steven Tyler and Smokey Robinson. Looks like Matthew McConaughey has some bromance competition on his hands! It was actually Jared's music that kept him away from acting for six years, as he focused on his band and its two latest albums, This Is War in 2009 and Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams in 2013, before he made Dallas Buyers Club.

When asked who was the first to hear about Leto's Best Supporting Oscar nomination for his role in the AIDs drama Dallas Buyers Club, his bandmate Tomo Milicevic replied, "Maybe me I woke up first thing in the morning and I was like 'Oh my god this is so great,'" he...

Jared Leto is finally releasing his documentary Artifact, detailing his war with the music industry when record label Virgin/Emi sued his band 30 Seconds to Mars for $30 million in 2008.
Jared Leto's Documentary Artifact
Artifact began as a behind-the-scenes documentary of the making of the band’s album This Is War. When they began contract renegotiations with Emi during the recording process, the documentary quickly shifted into a sort of tell-all investigation into the relationship artists have with their record labels.
The movie, directed by Leto himself, first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2012 where it won the People’s Choice Documentary Award, and, over a year later, is finally being released on VOD and iTunes.
“I’m excited to share our insight on how this business really works. We get down to the nitty-gritty. We talk about the business inside and out and reveal quite a few...

Jared Leto is generating some Oscar buzz for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club, his first movie role in almost six years. But he was hardly sitting on his duff during that period. As the lead singer of Thirty Seconds to Mars, Leto was touring and recording with his band, which includes his brother, Shannon, and Tomo Milicevic. The band sold millions of records, but there were some bumps along the way. Unhappy with their relationship with music behemoth Emi, Thirty Seconds attempted to opt out of its contract in 2008. The label responded by suing the band for $30 million.

The basis of that report? A few comments the band made in an interview with the channel, the majority of which seemed to be, first and foremost, jokes (especially the part where Jared Leto called his band "old road dogs," drawled about his desire for some iced tea and quoted Outkast). Still, in the time since the story first broke, 30Stm have yet to address the rumor, a fact that has stoked the flames of panic among their fanbase.

MTV News took the 64 biggest names in rock, split them up into four regions, assigned them seeds and puts them up against one another in a single-elimination series of match-ups in a winner-take-all contest. We're leaving it to you to decide an actual champ in this field of 64, so over the next few weeks, fan voting will determine who will emerge as this year's champion. It's all about the fans, and the artist with the most passionate fan base will score the awesome Musical March Madness trophy!
On Monday (March 14), MTV's Musical March Madness launched with the Midwest bracket. Today (Tuesday, March 15), we move into the West, where some of the biggest names in music reside. Jared Leto dedicated the first decade of his career to his acting, appearing in the landmark TV series “My So-Called Life” and such movies as “Fight Club,” “Girl, Interrupted,” and “American Psycho.” But for the last several years, he’s been channeling most of his energy into 30 Seconds To Mars, the band he started with his brother, Shannon, back in 1997.
The band, which also features Tomo Milicevic on guitar, has racked up five Top 10 Alternative hits in the last five years, including three that went all the way to Number 1. They’ve also achieved a lot of success worldwide, with their albums going gold or platinum in the UK, Australia, Germany, and Italy, to name a few.
This international appeal has kept the band on the road pretty steadily, and it was prior to their sold-out Southern California show that we got to talk to Jared, Tomo, and Shannon about their album,...

The Internet is still ablaze with chatter about 30 Seconds to Mars' complicated, controversial and utterly fascinating new short film "Hurricane," which made its debut on Monday night (November 29). Since its release, band frontman and director (under the name Bartholomew Cubbins) Jared Leto has rallied against the censorship of the clip, which contains multiple scenes of violence but was mostly hacked up for its graphic sexual content.
But in all the conversations about alternate versions and censorship double-standards, few people seem to really be talking about what the clip actually means. And while the interpretation is up to the viewer, there are a number of references in the film that could clarify some of the subtext.
"Eyes Wide Shut"

A mini movie in support of 30 Seconds to Mars' single "Hurricane" has been premiered in full, featuring a lot of racy scenes. Divided into three chapters, birth, life and death, the short film features Jared Leto, Shannon Leto and Tomo Milicevic fighting off their inner demons and living up dark fantasies involving a lot of violence and secret fetishes.
Due to the explicit content, TV networks refused to air the mini movie directed by Bartholomew Cubbins (Jared) unless it's edited. Due to the explicit content, TV networks refused to air the mini movie directed by Bartholomew Cubbins (Jared) unless it's edited. "We always knew there would be some images that would have a tough time getting through," Jared told Entertainment Weekly. "But we didn't expect this kind of pushback that we're getting now."

It's finally here! After a week of provocative teasers and a flurry of recent tweets about it being banned from network TV (more on that in a bit), 30 Seconds to Mars' horror and sex themed short film "Hurricane" is finally available to the masses, albeit in a (for now) censored version.
The video, directed by Bartholomew Cubbins (aka Jared Leto), has been previewed through six separate trailers. Whether it was The Gimps, who are the evil characters seen battling the band; Rosewood, a mysterious man who appears to be keeping a deep secret; or just the spotlight of each band member playing the music that they love, the clips kept fans on the edge of their seats speculating on the mystery behind the full-length version of the film.

Jared Leto never goes halfway. That's why the epic video for 30 Seconds to Mars' new single "Hurricane" sometimes feels like a summer blockbuster squished down into a 13-minute box. Part "Eyes Wide Shut" fetish flick, part action movie and all a bit confusing, the video that director Bartholomew Cubbins (a.k.a. Leto) has been promising will be "very sexual," violent and a "surrealistic nightmare dream-fantasy" is all those things and more. Plus a lot of things we can't even really get into here.
Premiering on MTV.com on Monday (November 29), the mini-movie is broken into chapters, beginning with movie-style titles announcing "Hurricane," then the subtitles "this is not reality" and "this is a dream." As Chapter 1, "Birth," unfolds, ominous lighting flashes over New York City...

In anticipation of 30 Seconds to Mars' "Hurricane" video premiere on next Monday, November 29, two more sneak peeks are offered. One teases guitarist Tomo Milicevic's character, and the other previews an older creepy guy who is observing something on his computer.
The previous previews, meanwhile, have given a quick look at Jared Leto and Shannon Leto's characters as well as the villains by the name The Gimps. Each of the band's members portrays a character who knows exactly how to fight and please the lady.
The music video is directed by Bartholomew Cubbins aka Jared Leto in a form of short movie. He described the soon-to-be-released video as "a surrealistic nightmare dream-fantasy through the desolate empty streets of New York City at night."
"We have, probably, 10 different locations over these two-and-a-half days that we're shooting," he added when interviewed by MTV in mid October. "We shot at Central Park earlier today,...

We're down to the next to last preview for 30 Seconds to Mars' short film "Hurricane", which will debut next week, and since Jared and Shannon Leto already had their turns in the spotlight, it's only fair for lead guitarist Tomo Milicevic to be the main subject of Teaser #5.
The roughly 20-minute long "Hurricane", titled after the track of the same name from the band's latest album release, This Is War, will be, as frontman Jared Leto describes it, a "meditation on the violence of sex and the sex of violence. The video is a surrealistic dream, nightmare, fantasy through the streets of New York City at night where the people and places that are normally reserved for the darker recesses of this town are kind of brought into the light and celebrated. It’s like a big, giant art opening really where the freaks have taken over the town."

30 Seconds to Mars, recently named Best Rock Band at this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards in Madrid, has just released a video preview for “Hurricane,” a short film titled after the track of the same name from the band’s latest album release, This Is War. The film, like the “This Is War” and “Kings and Queens” videos, was directed by Bartholomew Cubbins.

"It's a surrealistic nightmare dream-fantasy through the desolate empty streets of New York City at night. There's no people, there's no cars and you see the band as we encounter some fears and some fetishes, a series of challenges. It's a really ambitious, really cinematic short film."
-30 Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto, discussing the new soon-to-be-premiered video for "Hurricane," the latest single from their smash 2009 album This Is More. According to Leto, not only does the video star all three members of the band (including drummer Shannon Leto and guitarist Tomo Milicevic), but it also stars the streets of New York — a city that Leto loves.
"We have, probably, 10 different locations over these two-and-a-half days that we're shooting," he said. "Shooting in New York is an amazing experience; you have everything from simple things like the cobblestone on the streets to magical things like the people, personalities, the individuals.

Jared Leto doesn't get offered sex by groupies. The 30 Seconds to Mars frontman claims female fans of his band are more interested in giving him and his bandmates, Tomo Milicevic and brother Shannon Leto, gifts or poems than a night of wild passion.
"People are more likely to come up to us with artwork or poems or they've made you something like a bracelet rather than the other thing (sex)," he said. "But our music never dictated that. We didn't get into a band to party and get chicks."
Although his rock band hasn't provided him with an endless stream of girls, Jared, who has also starred in a host of Hollywood movies, including "Fight Club", insists he hasn't struggled with the opposite sex.
He added to Britain's Elle magazine, "The music hasn't been a throughway to that (sex). But fortunately that hasn't been an area that's been lacking!"...

Fontana, California — Travis Barker was born in Fontana, making it a sure bet that he felt a sense of homecoming as Blink-182 made their only North American appearance of the year at California's Epicenter 2010 Festival in that very town. The trio's hit-packed set closed the two-day event on Sunday following performances from Rise Against, 30 Seconds to Mars, Against Me! and more.
Afternoon temperatures reached 110 degrees in the racetrack parking lot where Epicenter took place, but the crowd's enthusiasm never seemed to wane, thanks in part to a steady stream of water misters and water cannons. Epicenter 2010 kicked off Saturday with Eminem (in his only West Coast appearance this year), Kiss and reunited alt-rockers Bush, among others.

(In case you missed any of the key moments, go back and check out the live blog of the show as well as the behind-the-scenes look at the pre-show.) Lady Gaga obviously walked away a big victor, as she took home six awards, including the Moonman for Video of the Year for "Bad Romance." Justin Bieber can also hold his head high for winning the coveted Best New Artist, and Eminem added a few more VMAs to his long resumé. But perhaps the biggest winners of the night were the men of 30 Seconds to Mars, whose "Kings and Queens" took home the prize for Best Rock Video.

The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards nominations are officially out, and in a not-too-shocking development, Lady Gaga leads the way with 13 potential Moonmen for her trophy case, mantle or back of her toilet (depending on how she likes to commemorate these things). Head on over to the official Vma 2010 page to vote on the winners in all the top categories, including Best Male Video, Best Rock Video, Best Collaboration, Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Female Video and, of course, Video of the Year.
It's that last category that is the most high-profile and thus the most intriguing. This year's batch of nominees includes two entries from Lady Gaga ("Bad Romance" and "Telephone," her team-up with Beyoncé) and clips from Eminem ("Not Afraid"), B.o.B ("Airplanes"), Florence and the Machine ("Dog Days Are Over") and 30 Seconds to Mars ("Kings and Queens"). Tokio Hotel, 30 Seconds to Mars and more march on in MTV News' Band Bracketology

30 Seconds to Mars are poised for domination

We started MTV News' Musical March Madness with 64 bands (well, 65 if you count Against Me!), whittled it down to 32 last week, and now, after hundreds of thousands of votes — and nearly as many ticked-off fans — we've reached the Sweet 16.
Much like the real Ncaa tourney, we had upsets, buzzer beaters and even an overtime tilt or two. After some heated, back-and-forth battles, we had heavyweights going down and Cinderella bands dancing on. One of these remaining bands will be crowned champion — and, once again, it'll be up to you to determine who makes it to the Elite Eight.
You can view the updated Band Bracket here, and Sweet 16 voting is now open on the Newsroom blog. Polls will close Tuesday night, so you'd better get cracking.

"In the song, there's a feeling of atmosphere. It's a bit of a dream," Leto says. Soon after he makes that observation, a lone horse appears in the video, running down a Los Angeles street in slow motion.

Over the course of 10 years and three hit albums, 30 Seconds to Mars have become notorious for a handful of reasons: A stunning live show, their rabid fans, frontman Jared Leto's approach to fashion and their envelope-pushing music videos. The latter is especially noteworthy, as Leto (who went to film school) has brought an incredible cinematic eye to the group's clips, leaving a handful of truly stunning images associated with their various hits. Leto has achieved technical mastery in the clip for "The Kill," went to Antarctica and Greenland for "A Beautiful Lie" and went to China for "From Yesterday." (Their most recent clip, for "Kings and Queens," will get the "Frame by Frame" treatment later this week.)
