Change is coming at Pinterest.
Back in 2021, the platform (like basically every other platform) boarded the short-form video train with what it called “Idea Pins“–a type of post separate from its flagship photo pins that allowed users to upload video content.
Now, Pinterest is unifying all types of content as simply “Pins.” And, in the process of merging user interfaces for video and photo posts, it’s opening up some previously limited features to more users.
The most notable of those features? The ability to include external links in Pins. Before this update, only business accounts could link out, but now individual users will be able to direct Pinterest users to a website. Or, as we’re guessing will most often be the case, to a product–either their own or a sponsoring company’s.
Pinterest specifically says it expects to see creators tagging products in their Pins with affiliate links.

Stier joined Pinterest in March. In her new gig, she’ll work alongside several executives who also came to the crafty platform after working at YouTube. Nadine Zylstra, who spent seven years at YouTube and briefly served as its original programming chief, became Pinterest’s Global Head of Programming and Original Content last year. With that move, she linked up with Malik Ducard, who ended a decade-long stint at YouTube to develop Pinterest’s creator strategy.
By joining the ex-YouTube contingent at Pinterest, Stier will bring 15 years of professional experience to a company that is prioritizing original content. Stier spent a decade at Viacom, where she developed shows for channels like MTV and VH1. After departing that role, Stier linked...

San Francisco, Oct 20 (Ians) Photo-sharing platform Pinterest has announced partnership with record labels to bring music to its TikTok rival, Idea Pins.
Idea Pins now allow users to add popular music to their video posts.
Through the collaboration, the platform’s existing royalty-free music collection is expanded to include licensed popular songs.
“Being able to add known and trending songs to Idea Pins will enable creators to engage more deeply and creatively with their audience, unlocking new ways for them to inspire through their content with music expression”, the company said in a blogpost.

For seven years, Nadine Zylstra was a key cog in YouTube's programming machine, but the platform's head of originals is moving on. According to Adweek, Zylstra is headed to Pinterest, where she will lead an original content push.
At Pinterest, Zylstra will report to her former YouTube colleague Malik Ducard, who was hired last year to serve as the social platform's chief content officer. During his decade-long tenure at YouTube, Ducard helped fund original content from Black creators and family-oriented channels.
Zylstra worked to advance both of those initiatives. When she arrived at YouTube in 2015 after a decade at Sesame Workshop, she initially served as the Head of Kids and Learning Originals. In that role, she led a broad expansion of the original content library on YouTube Kids, with several top YouTube stars leading their own shows aimed at young viewers and families.

Programming under the multimillion-dollar deal will begin to launch later this year and through 2023, according to a Tuesday announcement from the companies. The new shows, produced in at least eight languages, will debut exclusively on Pinterest and feature top creators from both Pinterest and Tastemade across the U.S, Latin America, Europe and the Asia Pacific.
Tastemade will also host in-person events for Pinterest and Tastemade creators at its studios in Los Angeles, London, Tokyo, Jakarta, Mumbai, São Paulo and Buenos Aires.
The pact between the two companies is the first major deal overseen by Malik Ducard since he joined Pinterest in October from YouTube, where he most recently served as the video giant’s vp content partnerships.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, who has served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy And Infectious Diseases (Niaid) since 1984 -- and who has also become a key source of information for the American public throughout the early onslaught of the coronavirus pandemic -- has taken to the YouTube-sphere to chat with four creators about the plight at hand, and instruct viewers on how they can do their part to flatten the curve.
YouTube selected four creators to conduct the interviews with Dr. Fauci -- YouTube news host Phil DeFranco (6.4 million subscribers), talk-show hosts Lilly Singh (14.9 million) and Trevor Noah (6.9 million), and medical expert Doctor Mike (5.4 million) -- with the videos slated to roll out in coming days. Collectively, these creators reach an audience of more than 33.5 million subscribers. You can check out Noah’s interview below, while DeFranco’s video is slated to drop later today, and Doctor...

If you are a parent of small children, you know that YouTube without content filters (and sometimes even with filters) is nothing short of a cesspool. Clicking on a video of Elmo singing “If You’re Happy and You Know It,” for instance, could prompt the algorithm to suggest, say, a Macedonian studio’s computer-animated version of that same song, which in turn leads to another video from that same studio, which in turns leads it to a video of an unlicensed Elmo’s head being popped like a bubble...
