The red carpet event is for Tribeca members as part of the organization’s push into year-round programming. It’s after the festival, which runs June 5-16.

Reality television hoax series The Joe Schmo Show is getting new life 20 years after it initially debuted, but it will be without the main face of its original version.
Created by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, who would go on to pen Zombieland and the Deadpool franchise, the series launched on Spike in September 2003. Similar to Freevee’s recent show Jury Duty, which starred James Marsden, Joe Schmo featured a cast of actors pretending to be part of a reality competition series, with only one person not in on the joke and actually striving to collect the prize.
Over the three initial seasons, the one constant presence was that of Ralph Garman, a comedian and actor (his credits include Ted and voice work on Family Guy) who currently leads the podcast The Ralph Report and co-hosts Hollywood Babble-On with Kevin Smith. Garman led the proceedings in all three seasons of Schmo,...

Journalism, like all careers, is a rapidly evolving field due to how frequently technology and culture have changed. To truly succeed as a journalist nowadays, you need to present important or relevant stories in a way that captures the audience's attention. Perhaps there is no better example of how to succeed in this than the work of Andrew Callaghan and his YouTube channel, Channel 5. After reaching millions with its on-the-street coverage of both political and social events, Callaghan is ready for the big time thanks to a new documentary being released on HBO later this year.
"This Place Rules," airing on HBO on December 30, 2022, charts the young journalist's shift into more serious political reporting in early 2020. In a new trailer recently released by the cable network, Callaghan is seen attending Covid-19 lockdown protests and Black Lives Matter demonstrations, interviewing both advocates and dissenters. Peacock has unveiled the first trailer for Paul T. Goldman, a wild new comedy series from Borat Subsequent Moviefilm director Jason Woliner and Seth Rogen.
Woliner has been shooting the project for over a decade. It’s in the style of Woliner’s work on Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, a series “that fact and fiction to tell a bizarre and incredible tale.”
Woliner explains how he embarked on the project in a letter that accompanies that show’s announcement. He wrote that Goldman tweeted at him (and hundreds of others) in 2012 that he had written a book and screenplay about “an incredible tale” and was seeking help to bring it to the screen. Woliner ended up buying the book, and ten years later, we have the Peacock series which stars Goldman himself.

Tom Allen (a.k.a. Chad Kroeger) and Jt Parr are taking their comedic activism to Netflix in the newly announced series “Chad & Jt Go Deep.”

Moonbase 8 might, by virtue of its title, evoke imagery from unintentionally-funny early-post-Star Wars cash-in sci-fi from a bell-bottoms-brandishing yesteryear such as space base farce Saturn 3, but the comedy is assuredly intentional in the case of the Showtime series, which has just released its full trailer and a November release date.
Intriguingly, Moonbase 8 is a six-episode half-hour astronaut comedy series that’s not even set in space, instead set in the final frontier of the Arizona desert, following the training exploits of bumbling NASA wannabees played by an auspicious comedy collective in John C. Reilly, Fred Armisen and Tim Heidecker. The onscreen comedic triumvirate also serve as co-creators along with Jonathan Krisel, who co-created and wrote for Armisen’s Sundance Channel TV vehicle, Portlandia and did the same for FX Zach Galifianakis comedy Baskets.
On that note, check out the full trailer for Showtime’s Moonbase 8 just below.

The series is created, written and executive produced by Armisen, Heidecker, Reilly and Emmy nominee Jonathan Krisel (Baskets), who also serves as series director.
Set in the isolated desert of Winslow, Arizona at NASA's Moon Base Simulator, Moonbase 8 follows eager astronauts Skip (Armisen), Rook (Heidecker) and their leader Cap (Reilly) as they attempt to qualify for their first lunar mission.

Magnolia Pictures has nabbed North American rights to “Mister America,” a feature-length comedy that’s being billed as an extension of the world of “On Cinema,” the cult Adult Swim show.
The film stars “On Cinema” hosts Tim Heidecker and Gregg Turkington and follows Heidecker’s attempt to enter the world of politics. Eric Notarnicola, who previously oversaw several episodes of the show along with its 2018 Oscar special, directs. Magnolia is eyeing a fall theatrical release.
In the movie, Heidecker beats a murder charge for selling faulty e-cigarettes at an Edm festival, and mounts a campaign to unseat the San Bernardino District Attorney. His effort to win voters tries to overcome a lack of experience and funding by leaning into the candidate’s personal likability. It does not go well.
“We unleashed Tim into the real world to run the worst campaign in modern history, and document the process,” said Notarnicola in a statement.

How’s this for an unlikely pairing: TBS has ordered a pilot for an unscripted series starring Shaquille O’Neal and Ken Jeong where the duo will take on odd jobs.
Summoned to their temporary employment by unsuspecting people via a digital portal, “Unqualified” (working title) will follow the antics of Shaq and Jeong as they try their hands at jobs that have always intrigued them, along with a few they’d rather avoid. Sometimes Shaq and Jeong will have no clue what they’re walking into. Utilizing their wide range of talent and hustle, the duo will perform tasks such as patrolling malls as rent-a-cops, substitute teaching kindergarten, train conducting and performing as party clowns.
Earlier this year, the two had a well-received performance on TBS’ “Drop the Mic.”

TBS has ordered a pilot for an unscripted series led by Shaquille O’Neal and Ken Jeong.
The new series is currently titled “Unqualified.” It will see O’Neal and Jeong team up to try out a variety of odd jobs like patrolling malls as rent-a-cops, substitute teaching kindergarten, train conducting, and performing as party clowns.
The pilot order comes after the basketball legend and comedian appeared together on the TBS series “Drop the Mic” earlier this year, in which the pair squared off in a rap battle.
“These guys made magic on ‘Drop The Mic’ together. Their chemistry is undeniable.” said Michael Bloom, senior vice president of unscripted and specials for TBS and TNT. “And no doubt that magic will extend to the unwitting people who expect anything to get done when they show up.”

The first image from A24’s comedy series Moonbase 8 has been released and it is delightfully regal and awkward with Nasa prestige.

Today marks the official launch of Super Deluxe, Turner’s multiplatform digital content brand, which debuts with a strong lineup of names familiar to the comedy world, as well as one unexpected name: Stephen Gaghan, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of “Traffic.”

Super Deluxe president Wolfgang Hammer, speaking with IndieWire at a launch event last night, offered some clarity into what Gaghan’s role as an executive producer would be at the young studio, which is owned by Turner but operates as an independent unit.
“Steve is an amazing filmmaker,” Hammer said. “I’ve known him for a very long time. He’s a voice. He won an Emmy, he won an Academy Award. There’s no harm in having an Academy Award-winning writer/director to produce stuff for you.”
Hammer clarified that Gaghan would be producing things within the TV studio, but that they wouldn’t necessarily fall into the realm of comedy. “We’re a comedy brand, but we’ll do other things as well.”
The name “Super Deluxe” may in fact sound familiar if you’re a comedy nerd. Turner launched the original site in 2007, just as YouTube was becoming a true craze and Funny or Die was building its own nascent brand. But despite being an early digital platform for creators like Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim and Maria Bamford, the site was shut down in 2008 and its content absorbed into Adult Swim.
As part of the new Super Deluxe, Heidecker, Wareheim and partner Dave Kneebone have signed a development and production agreement. “[They’re] obviously huge talents themselves, but have an amazing trust within the creative community,” Hammer said.
That trust will extend to a strategy built around incubating new talent. The site will also be working with (per the official release) “fresh, new voices such as Dean Fleischer-Camp (‘Catherine’), Jen Tullock (HBO’s ‘A Lot’) and Hannah Utt, Hye Yun Park and Brandon Rogers.” The latter will be working on the new original half-hour “Magic Funhouse,” “an adult show about a kid’s show.”
As Hammer explained, “Our philosophy generally is that a lot of creatives, especially the eccentric ones, are not good at pitching. So we provide a safe environment for them to go make stuff. Whether that’s television or short form — doesn’t matter.”
