Once again, Disney has reached within to fill a top job on the TV side. Ayo Davis, most recently EVP, Creative Development and Strategy for Disney Branded Entertainment, has been promoted to President of the division.
Davis succeeds Gary Marsh, who is stepping down as President and Chief Creative Officer of Disney Branded Television, leaving the Disney executive ranks after 33 years to become a producer with a deal at the studio.
This is the second big promotion in 10-month for Davis who had spent 18 years at Disney as a casting executive, most recently EVP, Talent and Casting, ABC Entertainment and Disney+, when she was named EVP, Creative Development and Strategy for Disney Branded Entertainment last November.

The That's So Raven spinoff officially has a name and a cast!
On Tuesday, it was announced that Disney Channel has ordered Raven's Home, the highly anticipated continuation series starring Raven-Symoné and Anneliese van der Pol, who will reprise their roles as best friends Raven Baxter and Chelsea Daniels.
That’s So Raven, which ran from 2003 to 2007, was one of Disney Channel’s brightest successes (and the network's first multi-camera comedy), wrapping after 100 episodes. The original series followed a teenage Raven, whose ability to see flashes of the future often got her into hot water.
Raven's Home will pick up with Raven and Chelsea, who are now divorced, single mothers raising their two separate families in one chaotic, but fun household full of friends. When one of Raven's kids begins to show signs that they have inherited her trait of catching glimpses of the future, the already hectic household gets turned upside down, keeping...

The Descendants are adding a poor, unfortunate soul to their ranks.
Disney Channel on Friday announced that China Anne McClain (A.N.T. Farm) is joining the cast of Descendants 2 as Uma, the daughter of legendary sea witch Ursula. McClain previously voiced Freddie, the daughter of The Princess and the Frog‘s Dr. Facilier, in the animated series Descendants: Wicked World.
The sequel — premiering in 2017, with production slated to begin this summer — will also introduce the offspring of Captain Hook and Beauty and the Beast‘s Gaston; their casting will be announced soon.
The cast of the original 2015 film will also return for Descendants 2 — Dove Cameron as Mal, daughter of Maleficent; Cameron Boyce as Carlos, son of Cruella de Vil; Booboo Stewart as Jay, son of Jafar; Sofia Carson as Evie, daughter of the Evil Queen; and Mitchell Hope as King Ben, son of Belle and the Beast — along with Kenny Ortega as director, executive producer and choreographer.
“Just when you thought ‘Happily Ever After’ had come to the land of Auradon, Descendants 2 turns the page to reveal a whole new level of mystery and surprise,” warns Disney Channel president Gary Marsh.

In 2014, Disney released Big Hero 6, the latest (at the time) in their string of animated films, but the first based on a Marvel property. The result was a resounding success. Critics and fans alike seemed to really enjoy the characters and heart of the film, and while the film went on to make over $650 million at the worldwide box office, there has been no real talk of a sequel. Admittedly, when it comes to sequels, Disney isn't really one to follow through--especially in theaters.
They seem content to continue that trend. While Big Hero 6 will not have a theatrical sequel in the near future, Disney seems to be looking to TV as a way of continuing this brand. According to Collider, Disney Xd has announced that it has started production on Big Hero 6: The Series, which is set to have a worldwide debut sometime in 2017. Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley,...

Update 1 Pm: The search for Michael Riley‘s replacement is still in the nascent stages, but his No. 2, Evp Original Programming and Development and Chief Creative Officer Kate Juergens, is being talked about as a logical choice. The main question is whether, following her recent promotion to a Chief Creative Officer, Juergens would want the top job. The situation is reminiscent of that at sibling Disney Channel, where the top creative executive, Gary Marsh, did not go for the president job when Rich Ross left to run Disney Studios. After the job became vacant again two years later when Carolina Lightcap left, Marsh took over. Juergens similarly had been ABC Family’s top development executive but did not make a play for the president position when Paul Lee left in 2010. Will she do it now? Previous 12:05 Pm: Michael Riley is leaving ABC Family after a three-year stint as president.

Kanter, previously Svp, Original Programming and General Manager, Disney Junior Worldwide, has been upped to Evp, original programming and general manager, Disney Junior Worldwide. “Nancy’s vision for Disney Junior has transformed it into a creative powerhouse for our youngest viewers and their parents,” said Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide, to whom Kanter reports. Under Kanter, Disney Junior delivered its biggest year (2012) on record for the programming block on Disney Channel and the year’s top 3 cable TV series among Kids 2-5 led by breakout hit Sofia The First, cable TV’s #1 preschool series, which just hit another series high.
