Tonight, viewers said goodby to the Baxters and their friends for a second time. The sitcom was cancelled by ABC after six seasons but was revived a year later for three more seasons on Fox. While there won't be a 10th season anytime soon, this family comedy seems ripe for a revival somewhere down the line.

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for the series finale of “Last Man Standing.”)
After nine season and two networks, “Last Man Standing” finally sat down on Thursday with a series finale that metaphorically said goodbye to the show by literally saying goodbye to Mike Baxter’s (Tim Allen) beloved truck, which was stolen just after he’d completed his 10-year restoration on the antique car.
The hourlong two-parter, titled “Baxter Boot Camp / Keep On Truckin,’” managed to remain mostly upbeat, which is exactly what Allen and “Last Man Standing” showrunner Kevin Abbott wanted for the ending of the Fox sitcom. But the writers did get in one big emotional scene, where Mike, Vanessa (Nancy Travis) and all the members of the Baxter family and their closest friends gathered together for a memorial service to mourn the loss of the show — er, truck.

After 194 episodes, nine seasons and two networks, “Last Man Standing” ends its run on Thursday night with one more story that puts a bookend on the entire series. In the final two episodes, “Baxter Boot Camp” and “Keep On Truckin,” the Baxter family reminisces on some of their good times while camping in the backyard.
But then, later, they gather again after Mike Baxter’s (Tim Allen) beloved green 1956 Ford F-100 is stolen. And as Mike asks family and friends to one-by-one pay tribute to the truck, it’s clear what they’re really doing is saying farewell to the show.
“I adored this show, this cast, this crew,” Allen said. “I never had a bad day on the set, and it isn’t old hat… Of course, all of the actors are still alive and well and we can see each other whenever we want, but I have not...

“Last Man Standing” will air its (second) series finale Thursday, with two back-to-back episodes to help fans say goodbye to Mike Baxter (Tim Allen) and his family. In TheWrap’s sneak peek of the first half-hour of the Fox sitcom’s ninth and final farewell, Mike decides he’s going to have to teach his eldest daughter, Kristin (Amanda Fuller), a lesson about work-life balance when she tells him about her genius system of working an extra hour every day.
First, Kristin tells her dad she’s already finished a huge project he recently gave her and when he says, “That’s a lot of work, where are you getting the energy? Please tell me you are not putting meth in your coffee.”
“Nope, every day I work an extra hour.”
Mike becomes concerned, “Well that hour comes from some place — you really think this is worth it?”

Last Man Standing is ending after three seasons on Fox, nine total, including an original run on ABC. And while the network has opted not to order another season, it is is sending Tim Allen and the rest of the Last Man Standing family off with praise just days before its series finale.
“The show took a bold, yet relatable, point-of-view with great humor and sensibility that directly spoke to families. Tim, the producers and cast have been great partners, and I believe this series will go down as one of the most meaningful family comedies in television,” said Michael Thorn, President of Entertainment for Fox Entertainment told Deadline. “It’s only fitting that a show of this importance gets the opportunity for a big, proper farewell to its loyal fans.”
In its hour-long finale, Last Man Standing will bid adieu to Mike Baxter and the rest of his quirky family members and co-workers.

Tim Allen is wrapping yet another long-running family sitcom as Last Man Standing nears its series finale on Fox. Though experienced the actor and executive producer may be at bringing beloved projects like Home Improvement and Galaxy Quest to close, Allen said it was difficult to say good bye to the on-screen family he’s come to know for nearly a decade.
“To be very honest, I have had problems letting go of this one. It’s just been three or four weeks and I’m literally just feeling better. Never have I enjoyed, outside of Home Improvement and maybe moments of Galaxy Quest, one of these jobs,” he said. “This crew, from the guy at the gate to Radford inside to people we ate with, I loved every second of this experience.”

Mike Baxter (Tim Allen) is enjoying some peace and quiet in his kitchen and about to devour some delish bacon when his son-in-law Ryan (Jordan Masterson) walks in to disturb his morning with a business proposal in TheWrap’s exclusive sneak peek at Thursday’s “Last Man Standing.” But Mike has a trick up his sleeve, or rather, in his pan, to get the vegan Ryan to go away.

After nine seasons and two networks, “Last Man Standing” will take its final bow this spring on Fox. And, as you might imagine, shooting the last episodes of a multi-cam sitcom during a pandemic is not as much fun — mainly because a large studio audience is no longer safe. But the Tim Allen comedy was actually able to keep the real-life laughter coming in a way to mitigate the spread of Covid-19: individual plexiglass booths for 18 paid “laughers” in the audience. “I cannot emphasize the impact a studio audience has,” “Last Man Standing” showrunner Kevin Abbott told TheWrap. “So it took a little bit of working around things. But ultimately, we brought in laughers. And they’re up in the audience in their own little plastic booths, like the booths from ‘The $64,000 Question.’ They’re sealed off in these things, but they can laugh, and the actor can at least hear them,...

Before Last Man Standing wraps its nine-season run, the series will be staging a Home Improvement crossover.
In a truly wild turn of events, Allen will be playing Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor, the role he played in the former series.
What's more, Tim will meet Mike on-screen.
The crossover takes place on January 7, a week after the show returns for its final season.
In the “Time Flies” season premiere, a series of time jumps finds Mike & Vanessa with two new grandchildren, as well as Mandy and Kyle living with them.
Mike, accidentally / on-purpose gets involved when Vanessa and Mandy clash over Vanessa’s “helpfulness.” Meanwhile, at Outdoor Man, Chuck desperately hopes its last call on Ed’s mixology happy hour.

Last Man Standing is staging 2021’s most unlikely crossover, as Mike Baxter comes face to face with Tim Allen‘s former alter ego, Home Improvement‘s Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor.
Fox on Friday released the trailer for Last Man‘s ninth and final season, which features the aforementioned meeting of the half-minds. The Tool Time host appears in Mike’s kitchen wearing a vintage Binford Tools t-shirt and serves up one of his signature grunts. The crossover takes place in the Jan. 7 episode, titled “Dual Time,” when Vanessa hires a home improvement repairman who bears an uncanny resemblance to her husband.

Last Man Standing is coming to an end, again.
The Fox comedy will end with its upcoming ninth season, which will premiere on the network in January.
The move means that the Tim Allen-fronted series will have run for 194 episodes when it ends with its ninth season being ordered for 21 episodes.
It marks the second time that the sitcom has come to an end; the show, which is produced by 20th Television, ran for six seasons on ABC and was axed in 2017. Fox, which at the time was part of the same corporation as the studio that made it, picked it up for a seventh season that premiered in September 2018.
Last Man Standing is currently Fox’s only returning live-action comedy. The network has straight-to-series comedy series Call Me Kat, starring Mayim Bialik and executive-produced by Bialik and Jim Parsons, launching in midseason and is still planning to film...

“Last Man Standing” will now get a proper series finale. Fox announced Wednesday that the Tim Allen-led sitcom will wrap up after its upcoming ninth season next year.
Fox picked up the sitcom after it was dropped by ABC after six seasons. Allen was irked by ABC’s decision to cancel the series despite its solid performance on Friday nights. In a statement, he seemed much more sanguine about the series’ second ending.
“I’ve been one lucky dude to have been part of ‘Last Man Standing,'” Allen said. “I so appreciate the incredible support from our fans over this near decade of work. As we approach the ninth season, I just admire and feel grateful for all the hard work our wonderful cast and crew have done. Fox has officially renewed two more series for next season, flagship comedy Last Man Standing, headlined by Tim Allen, and medical drama The Resident, starring Matt Czuchry and Emily VanCamp. Both come from 20th Century Fox TV and both had been a lock to come back.
The pickups leave freshmen Prodigal Son and Outmatched as the only remaining Fox scripted series yet to hear their fate. As we reported, drama Prodigal Son’s renewal is being finalized while comedy Outmatched is not expected to continue.
Last Man Standing and The Resident will join the rest of Fox’s returning live-action series on the bench of midseason. Because of the uncertainty surrounding the timing of Hollywood’s production reopening amid the coronavirus pandemic, Fox’s fall schedule only features scripted series that are either already in the can or are animated, as animation has not been significantly impacted by the pandemic.

Sarah Michelle Gellar‘s TV return is inching closer to reality.
The previously-announced limited series Sometimes I Lie — starring the Buffy vet as a woman trapped inside her own body — has landed at Fox for development. Based on the novel of the same name by Alice Feeney, Gellar will star as Amber Reynolds, who wakes up in a hospital bed, paralyzed, mute and unable to open her eyes — but she can hear everything that’s going on. She doesn’t know what landed her there, and the action skips around among the present, her childhood and the recent past.

Let's talk about politics and television. More specifically, if the current political climate has changed the character of Mike Baxter on Last Man Standing.
Politics have played a significant part in the show since it premiered in 2011.
Conservative Mike was not shy about sharing his views and opinions during a Barack Obama administration. He made it quite clear what he thought of Democrats, liberals, and those he referred to as "whiny babies."
There was no shortage of Obama administration jokes thanks to Mike. But that was during a different time in our country.
Now that the political climate has drastically changed, the character has been somewhat altered.
The Fox revival has shown a softer, less harsh, more loving side of the Baxter patriarch.
Yes, Mike is still conservative, still thinks liberals are whiny snowflake babies and never misses a chance to take a jab at Hillary Clinton or Obama.
