Amber Heard has outlined several grounds on which she intends to appeal the trial verdict that found her guilty of defaming ex-husband Johnny Depp.
On Tuesday (11 October), attorneys for the Aquaman star filed an appellate brief to the Court of Appeals in Virginia, detailing 16 grounds for appeal, including a claim that the case should have been dismissed as it shouldn’t have taken place in northern Virginia.
The six-week, Spring defamation trial sided largely with Depp, awarding him 10m (£8m) in compensatory damages and 5m (£4m) in punitive damages. Depp sued Heard for implying he abused her in a 2018 op-ed for The Washington Post.
However, Heard was also awarded 2m (£1.6m) in her countersuit, finding that one of Depp’s attorneys had defamed her when he had branded her abuse allegations a “hoax”.
The four-page court document says that because both sides technically won, the verdict, therefore, is “inherently and irreconcilably inconsistent”.

“Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial” sounds like the tawdriest of TV-movies, with any vestige of shame left on the cutting-room floor. It definitely is that, yet it’s worth noting that this exact sort thing has been around for decades. It just didn’t used to come off the assembly line quite so quickly. In the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s, the landscape was littered with made-for-tv movies that jumped on tabloid-ready stories — The Jacksons! Jim Jones! The Menendez brothers! The Beverly Hills madam! The rape of Richard Beck! — and squeezed out whatever juice was left in them. “Hot Take” isn’t much different. It feeds on our collective desire, which is apparently limitless, to see adequate-but-not-never-good-enough actors acting out the infamous scenes we’ve read or heard about, bringing those squalid episodes to life. Except that the whole problem with this form is that the dramatized version rarely ends...

The verdict for Amber Heard and Johnny Depp's defamation trial was delivered just four short months ago, but their highly publicized legal battle is already being made into a movie. The first trailer for Tubi's forthcoming film "Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial" debuted on Sept. 28, with Mark Hapka portraying Depp and Megan Davis as Heard. Directed by Sara Lohman, the project will retell the story of Depp's lawsuit against Heard, which became a social media sensation over the summer.
The verdict for the trial was delivered on June 1, with the majority of the jury finding that Heard defamed Depp in a 2018 article about domestic abuse, although Heard had not mentioned Depp by name in the piece. Depp was awarded 10 million in damages, while Heard won 2 million in damages on her end for one of her counterclaims.

Tubi released the official trailer for original movie “Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial,” a fictionalized retelling of this summer’s closely followed defamation trial involving actors Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.
The ripped-from-the-headlines film is set to premiere Friday, Sept. 30, on the free, ad-supported Tubi service. “Hot Take” stars Mark Hapka as Depp and Megan Davis (“Alone in the Dark”) as Heard.
Judging from the trailer, “Hot Take” aims to evenly present both sides of the controversial story of the formerly married couple. “This is not life — no one should have to go through this,” Hapka’s Depp, featuring slicked-back hair tied off in a ponytail, says in court. At another point, Davis’s Heard says, “I have the right to say what happened to me.”
The trailer also references the TikTok trend that emerged during the trial in which users mocked Heard’s emotional testimony on the stand.

The clunky script and amateurish performances are not unexpected in the faith-based genre, but its dubious “inspiration” gives even diehard-atheist me pause. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing
I’m “biast” (con): not a fan of “faith-based” films

If I was a faith-based sort of person, I’d be pretty annoyed at the sorts of movies I’m supposed to embrace simply because characters in them pray and stuff. And then 23 Blast would make me extra angry, because not only is it defined primarily by its clunky script and amateurish performances — which is, alas, not unexpected in the faith-based genre — but it also features some dubious instances of “inspiration” that gave even diehard-atheist me pause.

Here's a priceless chunk of dialogue, spoken between a pair of friends/rivals on 23 Blast's high school football team: "It is so easy for you!" one boy shouts, shirtless and sculpted and chest-depilated, from the back of a rusted-out pickup truck. "Easy?" his teammate shoots back. "I'm blind!" And he is. This gentle-souled, based-on-a-true-story Christly sports feature dramatizes the unlikely return to the gridiron of nice guy Travis Freeman (Mark Hapka), a promising player who loses his eyesight but still gets to take the field for the big game's last play. Risible as that may sound, Dylan Baker's film bests larger-budgeted fare like When the Game Stands Tall thanks to ace acting, a humble spirit, and all-around sturdy craftsmanship. It's also a great re...

We all know Dylan Baker as one of this generation’s finest character actors — turns in Happiness, Spider-Man 2 and 3, Trick r’ Treat are the first things that come to mind for yours truly — and now he’s extending his talents to another department. According to Variety, Baker will make his first stab at directing with the indie drama 23 Blast, a film which will star himself, Justin Long, Stephen Lang, Mark Hapka (Days at Our Lives), and Max Adler (Glee).
Written by Toni and Bram Hoover, 23 Blast centers on “a high school football star (Hapka) who’s suddenly stricken with irreversible blindness and the choice he’s forced to make regarding whether he should return to the sport.” Adler, meanwhile, plays a fellow member of the team; the other roles have not been discussed, but that great lineup has me itching to learn more. Production kicks off next month.

Is This the End for Desperate Housewives?
Creator Marc Cherry and executive producer Bob Daily are both signed to remain with the series through the season, as well as a potential ninth season. But rumblings have started that the producers and network may decide to go out with a bang this year rather than stretch things. Nothing's been decided yet, but ABC knows the question will be a key one when the network meets with reporters on August 7 at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour. That's why some insiders believe a decision could be made by then.
Others, however, think ABC may wait until September to see how its new shows perform, and if Desperate Housewives sees another ratings drop. "It's all dependent on the ratings," says one insider. "It will be up against some stiff competition."

Billy Miller admits it: He used to look down his nose at soap operas
"I think my mom watched them a little bit when I was a kid, but I was never super-familiar with any of them," the Arlington Lamar High School graduate says.
"Then I went to film school and my roommate would watch Passions every day. I just remember looking at him and asking, 'Really? You're a 220-pound dude watching Passions?'"
Little did Miller know that a future in daytime television awaited him. "Now that I'm looking back on it," the 30-year-old actor says, "I think I'm a little glad my roommate was watching that show."

The cast of soap drama "Days of Our Lives" celebrate two things over the weekend. The show will reach its 45th milestone on November 8 and it is just given a guarantee to stay alive at least until September 2013.
An anniversary party was held at House of Blues in West Hollywood, California on Saturday, November 6. Alison Sweeney, Arianne Zucker and John Aniston who have stayed with the soap for more than 7 years, came to the event to mingle with the relatively new cast such as Molly Burnett, Mark Hapka and Camila Banus.
Sheri Anderson who writes for the show posted on her Facebook, "Just home from the Days Of Our Lives party at House of Blues and it was fabulous seeing so many old -- and some new -- friends." She also confirmed at the same time that "Days of Our Lives" has been renewed for another two years.

HollywoodNews.com: I’ll have red carpet coverage galore from the 2010 Daytime Emmy Awards later today and lots and lots of bits of news that I picked up from here and there.
Chatted up just about everyone I really wanted to including Susan Lucci, Bonnie Hunt, Tuc Watkins, Michael Muhney, Jon Hensley, Eden Reigel, Brandon Beemer, Mark Hapka, Shawn Christian, Carolyn Hennesey, Doug Davidson, Drew Tyler Bell, Zach Conroy and Austin Peck, among many others.
But first let’s tell you who won what and share some of the backstage dish and the photos I snapped.
While there is debate about the quality of the telecast itself (Dick Clark tribute too long, As the World Turns Tribute too short etc), I must say that it was a dream backstage where everyone was in a good mood, the food they served us was delish, and the WiFi was nice and speedy!

David Henrie's directing debut will be premiered tomorrow on October 30 at 8/7c and the trailer has been released by the actor through his Twitter. In celebration of the Halloween fiesta, "Boo" presents a short webseries starring Tiffany Thornton and Samantha Droke among others.
There is no synopsis yet released to the public but it is known to involve seven friends. According to Just Jared Jr., it is inspired by a true story in the lives of seven real friends. The trailer, which is quite short at 18 seconds, also did not give a clue on the storyline. Defending the trailer's duration, Henrie tweeted, "super short cause it's a trailer of a short".
Other teen stars in the horror short are Francia Raisa, Chris Hunter, Brandon Smith, Allen Evangelista and Mark Hapka. On the director seat, Henrie is joined by Johnny Salvatore and Chris Rossi.

If you combine Jackass and Borat and remove all semblance of discipline or organization, you get something like Midgets vs Mascots, an occasionally very funny but often very sloppy mockumentary that is far too eager to show us how taboo it is.
The premise is that a Texas millionaire named Big Red (Richard Howland) has just died, and his will has unusual stipulations on how his fortune should be dispersed. Big Red was a little person and had great fondness for that group. He had also done work as a mascot early in his career, and always loved mascots. But as adult-film legend Ron Jeremy says, "Big Red knew there was no money in mascotting, so he did what any midget would do: porn." Yes, Big Red made his money producing skin flicks, many of which involved actors of his height.
Anyway, Big Red wants a team of five mascots...
