Lionsgate is planning a May 17th theatrical release for the horror film The Strangers: Chapter 1, and with that date just three weeks away the Motion Picture Association ratings board has announced that they’ve given the film an R rating for “horror violence, language and brief drug use.” That puts it pretty much in line with the ratings to the previous two movies in the Strangers franchise. Released in 2008, The Strangers was rated R for violence/terror and language. The Strangers: Prey at Night followed in 2018 and was rated R for horror violence and terror throughout, and for language.
The Strangers: Chapter 1 was directed by Renny Harlin, who shot an entire trilogy of Strangers movies at the same time. We’ve heard that Lionsgate will also be releasing The Strangers: Chapter 2 and The Strangers: Chapter 3 by the end of the year.

The first season of The Night Agent became the sixth most popular season of English-language TV season in Netflix history, so it’s no wonder the streamer is rushing to get a second season to our screens. The Night Agent Season 1 spoilers below. At the end of that first season, Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) had become a full-fledged Night Action agent, flying off to an unknown destination on a mission for the off-the-books intelligence organization. And in Season 2, Night Action life is “going to bring new problems” for Peter, The Night Agent showrunner Shawn Ryan explained to Tudum last year. “One of the reasons we like Peter so much is he’s a rule follower who has such a strict moral code that he lives by. We admire the choices he makes. [As a night agent], those choices will become difficult, the stakes will become even higher, and the danger he’s in will grow even bigger.

Lionsgate is planning a May 17th theatrical release for the horror film The Strangers: Chapter 1, and they’re taking a viral marketing approach to this one. When the South by Southwest festivals were held in Austin, Texas last month, the Strangers were spotted around the city. The music and arts festival Coachella is going on Indio, California right now, and Lionsgate sent the Strangers out to crash this festival as well. A video of the Strangers at Coachella can be seen in the embed above, and images of their time at the festival can be seen at the bottom of this article.

Several years into Hollywood giants’ streaming pushes, they still find themselves confronted with that famous Jerry Maguire line from Wall Street: “Show me the money!” In the case of streaming, “the money” means profits.
With Netflix having been crowned by some observers as the king of streaming, Hollywood CEOs have focused on making their streaming business units profitable after an initial focus on subscriber growth.
The full year of 2023 provided some positives for sector watchers. One entertainment titan ended up eking out a small profit for its streaming unit, while two others narrowed their losses in their divisions with their core streaming businesses, with one of those promising to start turning black ink this year. And another sector biggie made clear that 2023 marked its year of peak losses in streaming.
But Hollywood conglomerates’ streaming results still make for a sharp contrast with Netflix’s continued growth in its annual bottom line.

Nearly 16 years after Bryan Bertino's The Strangers shocked cinemas (moments from that movie still linger in my mind rent-free), it's time to "witness how the strangers became the strangers" in the trailer for The Strangers: Chapter 1 ahead of its May 17th theatrical release via Lionsgate.

"Why are you doing this to us?!" "Because you're here." Lionsgate has revealed the first official trailer for a horror sequel titled The Strangers: Chapter 1, arriving in theaters starting this May. It's the next sequel in The Strangers horror series, but it's also the start of a brand new trilogy, sort of a re-imagining but using the same premise of creepy, masked people showing up at a home. Madelaine Petsch & Froy Gutierrez star as a couple who come into contact with the three psychopathic masked strangers while on a roadtrip through Oregon. Serving as the third film in The Strangers series created by Bryan Bertino, it's also the first installment of a new trilogy of standalone sequel films, where Chapter 1 will follow a similar premise to the the first film and takes place in the same continuity as the first two installments. This is directed by action master Renny Harlin,...

Lionsgate has shared the first trailer for Renny Harlin’s prequel slasher. Take a look at The Strangers: Chapter 1 trailer here.
2024 has been a little barren for horror films, but fear not, my friends. Things are looking up.
Renny Harlin’s The Strangers: Chapter 1 is heading our way in May and if it captures even a smidge of the atmosphere of the 2008 original, we’re in good company.
The first trailer has just surfaced online for The Strangers: Chapter 1 and you can take a look at it below.

What do you do when they come for you? Beloved horror franchise “The Strangers” is getting a revamp, courtesy of prequel “The Strangers: Chapter 1” starring “Riverdale” alum Madelaine Petsch. Two more sequels are due later this year, all from “Die Hard 2” and “Cliffhanger” director Renny Harlin.
In this first film, Petsch stars as a young woman who is trying to start a new life with her fiancé. Yet, during a road trip stop in a remote vacation rental in the woods, the couple become the prey of a mysterious gang of masked strangers who attack without warning or reason. Froy Gutierrez, Gabriel Basso, and Ema Horvath co-star.
Sure, it may sound like a run-of-the-mill slasher, but “The Strangers” franchise has a haunting allure, thanks to its creation by filmmaker Bryan Bertino. The director has a “story by” credit for “Chapter 1,” which is helmed by Harlin and written by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland.

Remember "The Strangers"? They're back — in trilogy form. Released in 2008, "The Strangers" is a wildly effective horror pic in which a couple finds themselves targeted at random by a trio of masked killers. Written and directed by Bryan Bertino, the film made great use of sound design and slowly building dread to create a memorable scary movie that went on to become a sleeper hit at the box office. In 2018, we got "The Strangers: Prey At Night," a sequel that followed a similar formula but changed up the atmosphere a bit (it felt like more of a traditional slasher movie than the first film).
Now, we're getting a whole new trilogy, helmed by none other than Renny Harlin, the filmmaker behind "Cliffhanger" and "Deep Blue Sea." The plan is to release all three films in one year, and things are kicking off with "The Strangers: Chapter 1." Don't call it a remake,...

Other cast members include Rachel Shenton, Gabriel Basso, Ema Horvath, Richard Brake and Ella Bruccoleri.
“Chapter One” is the first film in a new trilogy directed by Renny Harlin, who has previously helmed “Die Hard 2,” “Cliffhanger” and “The Long Kiss Goodnight,” among other projects.

We may know where Peter was headed when he jetted off in the Season 1 finale of The Night Agent.
Filming has begun on the second season of Netflix’s hit thriller drama, with the streamer’s start-of-production announcement unveiling that shooting of the new season will take place primarily in New York City with additional filming in Thailand and Washington D.C.
Season 1 of The Night Agent was set in and around Washington D.C. and filmed in Vancouver.
Given that we last saw Peter (Basso) taking off from D.C. in a private jet on his first mission as a Night Action spy, it is safe to assume that he is going to Thailand or a nearby country. That would answer one of the finale’s biggest questions.
Other major questions The Night Agent showrunner Shawn Ryan expected the show to address in Season 2 back in March include, What does it mean that Peter would be a night agent? Now that Rose is going back to California to try to restart her tech career, where does that leave Peter and Rose?
Season 2 also is moving the center of the action from the nation’s capital to the Big Apple as the series is rewarded for its big success in Season 1 — which ranks as the sixth most popular season of an English-language series on Netflix — with more expensive filming locations.
Basso and Luciane Buchanan return alongside previously announced new cast members Amanda Warren, Arienne Mandi, Louis Herthum, Berto Colon, Brittany Snow and Teddy Sears.
The Night Agent is on a very tight schedule as Netflix announced last week that Season 2 will premiere in 2024. Getting a 10-episode season of an elaborate action drama series ready before end of the year will be a major feat, especially given the fact that series on a global streamer like Netflix take longer to release because they also have to undergo dubbing/subtitling for the various territories.
The Night Agent is a character-based, action-thriller whose first season centered on a low-level FBI Agent who works in the basement of the White House, manning a phone that never rings — until the night that it does, propelling him into a fast-moving and dangerous conspiracy that ultimately leads to the Oval Office.
The series is created, showrun and executive produced by Shawn Ryan through his MiddKid Productions banner. David Beaubaire, Seth Gordon, Julia Gunn, Marney Hochman, Paul Neinstein, William Sherak, Nicole Tossou, James Vanderbilt, Paul Bernard and Munis Rashid also executive produce. The Night Agent is produced by Sony Pictures Television.

The job featured in The Night Agent seems pretty cushy for a federal agency: You just sit overnight in the basement of the White House, manning an emergency phone that never actually rings. But what happens when it does? For low-level FBI agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), it means his life becomes very complicated, very quickly as he’s thrust directly into the middle of a massive conspiracy at the highest levels of government.
Created by Shawn Ryan, the new thriller series is based on the novel by Matthew Quirk and has already been renewed for a second season. Find your footing in this dangerous plot by getting up to speed with the cast, which includes Hong Chau, Luciane Buchanan and more.

Once upon a time, the knock on Netflix was its glaring lack of transparency, specifically when it came to sharing viewership data. In June 2021, Netflix first released its Weekly Top 10 lists, ostensibly to shut creators — and the press — up. Turns out, that only silenced the creators of its hit shows and movies.
Along with the glaring issues of AI and residuals, a lingering lack of overall transparency across streaming was a major topic this spring, summer, and fall during the writers and actors strikes. With those picket lines still closer than they appear in Netflix’s rearview mirror, the streaming leader is getting even more transparent-er(?).
On Tuesday, Netflix announced it would be opening its ledgers twice a year, sharing the hours viewed for any and every title that was streamed for at least 50,000 hours over six months. The threshold is a bit lower than that sounds.

Yesterday, director Renny Harlin (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master) and producer Courtney Solomon were on a panel at New York Comic Con to discuss their upcoming trilogy of movies inspired by the 2008 film The Strangers (watch it Here) – and you can find out some of the details that were revealed during that panel at This Link. Lionsgate will be releasing these Strangers movies – which are said to be titled The Strangers: Chapter 1, The Strangers: Chapter 2, and The Strangers: Chapter 3 – to theatres throughout 2024… and coinciding with the panel, they have also released a clip from The Strangers: Chapter 1, along with a couple posters! JoBlo’s own Tyler Nichols was also able to sit down for an interview with Harlin before the panel began, so we have that video embedded above. The clip and posters can be found at the bottom of this article.

Shawn Ryan feels like he’s picked up in mid-sentence.
The seasoned showrunner is back in his element, leading a writers room and juggling two series, Netflix’s “The Night Agent” and the final season of CBS’ high-octane police drama “S.W.A.T.”
The end of the Writers Guild of America strike late last month unleashed a torrent of work for Ryan and his teams based at Sony Pictures Television. “Night Agent” was a little more than halfway done with writing for the 10 episodes for Season 2 when writers went pencils down on May 2.
“Night Agent” debuted with its 10-episode first season on March 23. That was three days after the WGA began its contract negotiations with the major studios under tense circumstances. It was a hard time for Ryan to focus on getting promotional traction for a new property led by two actors relatively unknown to U.S. audiences, Luciane Buchanan and Gabriel Basso.

Director Renny Harlin (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master) is bringing us not only a remake of the 2008 film The Strangers (watch it Here), but an entire remake trilogy – at least, it has been referred to as a remake trilogy before, but some have said it’s set “within the same universe” as the original film. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Harlin has revealed that the three new Strangers films are titled The Strangers: Chapter 1, The Strangers: Chapter 2, and The Strangers: Chapter 3 – and Entertainment Weekly has also shared the first images from The Strangers: Chapter 1, giving us our first look at the trilogy’s version of the title characters, as well as those played by Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale) and Froy Gutierrez (Cruel Summer). These images can be seen at the bottom of this article.
The new Strangers trilogy was filmed in Slovakia, and all three movies were shot simultaneously.

Move over, "Jury Duty," there's another twist-filled jury story in town. This time it's "Juror No. 2," the upcoming movie from veteran filmmaker Clint Eastwood. Eastwood is in his 90s now, but age hasn't stopped the prolific actor-turned-filmmaker from working on new stories to bring to the silver screen. Though the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike means "Juror No. 2" has currently suspended filming, the Eastwood picture is still in the works -- and it sounds like it has the potential to be one of the most riveting movies he's made in a while.
When it comes to Eastwood the director, your mileage may vary. The nonagenarian star has certainly made some fantastic projects in his impressive lifetime, from Oscar winners "Unforgiven" and "Million Dollar Baby" to "Mystic River" and "The Bridges of Madison County." His most recent projects, though, including 2021's "Cry Macho" and "Richard Jewell," weren't wholeheartedly embraced by critics and audiences.
