According to THR, Daredevil: Born Again will finally resume shooting on Monday. The Disney+ series was in the midst of production when it was forced to shut down last summer due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. During that hiatus, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and other executives grew displeased with the direction of the show and demanded a creative overhaul.
Dario Scardapane, who worked on Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan as well as Marvel’s The Punisher on Netflix, was brought in to serve as the new showrunner of Daredevil: Born Again. Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, the directing team who helmed multiple episodes of Moon Knight and Loki season 2, were also hired to direct the remaining episodes of the series. The retooling is said to move the series away from a legal procedural and more towards the gritty tone of the original Daredevil series on Netflix. To that end,...

Marvel Studios is starting out 2024 on a sturdy footing as it begins to refocus and rebuild its TV shows.
Coming off the strong opening of Echo, its crime series centered on Indigenous and deaf anti-heroine Maya Lopez, Marvel next turns its attention to Daredevil: Born Again, which restarts production Monday after a lengthy hiatus.
Philip Silvera, who acted as stunt and fight coordinator on the Netflix version of Daredevil that ran in the mid-2010s, has returned to the fold to act as stunt coordinator and second unit director for the new series.
His hiring is the latest example of the retooling Born Again underwent as it was changed from a legal procedural to something that aims to harken back to the gritty and violent tone of that first well-regarded series. It also reaffirms the show’s focus on more street-level heroics and less on heavy (and costly) visual effects.

Rob Liefeld, creator of the comic book character “Deadpool,” has debuted a proof of concept trailer for a film called “Bloodstrike,” directed by stunt coordinator Philip J. Silvera.
In a detailed Instagram caption, Liefeld revealed the vision for his new project and how the trailer came to be. He began by relaying the difficulties involved in bringing a movie to the big screen.
“When taking a comic book from page to screen there are always hurdles, screenplay, screenwriters, talent that attach and move on. It gets old really fast,” he wrote.
Liefeld and Silvera, who worked on “Deadpool” and other Marvel films, shared an artistic synergy.
“I have waited to connect with a director with the same zeal for the material, someone who can nurture it to the finish line, be a true partner in the process,” Liefeld wrote. “I met Phil Silvera on the first Deadpool film. He had...

I've written two articles about Daredevil today, but I still have not had time to watch the entire second season that is currently streaming on Netflix. One of those articles highlights what I assume to be one of the series' best fight scenes, one that's made to look like a single unbroken take as Daredevil brawls his way down the stairwell of an apartment building. Many people assume that's meant to top the long hallway scene from the first season, and thanks to Rolling Stone, we can now see some behind the scenes footage of the stunt team working on that sequence. The outlet spoke with fight/stunt coordinator Philip J. Silvera about the realism needed in fight scenes these days, how Daredevil's anticipation impacts the fights, and more. Check it out:...

Netflix's second season of Daredevil has been released and as series fight and stunt coordinator Philip J. Silvera promised when he spoke with Rolling Stone, the new season is "like the one-shot fight [from Season One] on crack." As Uproxx reports, the second season features a similar, lengthy heart-pounding fight scene in its third episode.
The new scene differs from the approach of the three-minute continuous single shot fight from Season One, where the fight takes place in a hallway between Daredevil and a gang of mobsters. In the five-minute Season Two scene above,...

Philip J. Silvera is one of Hollywood's premiere stunt choreographers, having worked on major projects for film (Iron Man 3), television (Daredevil) and video games (Star Wars: The Old Republic). But his latest gig, coordinating the elaborate fight sequences in Marvel box-office smash Deadpool, turned out to be one of his most rewarding. In an exclusive Rolling Stone video interview, Silvera details the creative and narrative challenges of his work.
"In stunts and designing the action overall, it has to tell the story," he says. "You don't ever want...

Brett Chan has been added as a stunt coordinator on Marvel’s Iron Fist, where he’ll help shape and guide the mystical martial arts of the titular superhero for the Netflix series.
If that names sounds familiar, it’s because Chan previously helped out another Netflix show, Marco Polo, with its dependably awe-inspiring fight sequences. Besides that series, Chan has a history of working on films like X2: X-Men United, Blade: Trinity, and even in the small-screen DC universe with Arrow.
The news comes from Twitter, where a fan asked Philip J. Silvera (a stunt coordinator for Marvel’s Daredevil) who would have the honor of helping Iron Fist beat up bad guys in his new show.
For those who aren’t sure who Iron Fist is or what his powers are, here’s a quick snapshot of Netflix’s upcoming superhero show. Suffice it to say, it sounds...

Jon Bernthal is set to play Frank Castle when Daredevil returns for a second season on Netflix. The actor sounds honored to be playing the character, and this is evidenced not by some sort of meaningless lip service, but by the thoughtfulness of what the character means to him and has meant for our heroes in the military and law enforcement.
In a chat with Comic Book Resources, Bernthal waxed poetic about the significance of the role, and whether or not he wants to don the iconic skull symbol:
"You know what man, I hope you don't take this as being political, but every step along with way with this, I feel such an enormous -- I'm extremely humbled to have this job. It's an extraordinary honor for me. I take it as a responsibility the same way I would representing any soldier. This is a character that resonates deeply...

The final scene of Daredevil's second episode ends with a brutal, five-and-a-half minute single take that encapsulates much of the show’s ambition: dark, painfully realistic, and unrelenting in its tone. Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), clad in all black with rope wrapped around his knuckles, arrives at a Russian hideout where they’re holding a trafficking victim captive, a little boy. In the fight scene that unfolds, the camera slowly moves back and forth along the hallway like a disinterested observer as Murdock lays the beatdown on a swarm of Russian mobsters — a balletic choreography of blows, punishing in its sound design. “He's tired, he's beat, but he's got a will that just keeps going, regardless of what pain he's in,” said Philip Silvera, the fight and stunt coordinator for the series. You might recognize Silvera's work in Thor: The Dark World, The Dark Knight Rises, and the leaked...
