Veteran actor Gary Oldman has touched on his own relationship with aging, as well as his path to sobriety while commenting on the evocative themes in Paolo Sorrentino’s Parthenope.
Sorrentino’s love letter to Naples, Parthenope follows a physically and intellectually captivating young woman, played by breakout star Celeste Dalla Porta, across decades as the film balances youth, freedom, and yearning against a backdrop of enchanting Neapolitans.
At the Cannes Film Festival‘s press conference for the film, Oldman was asked about his character, an aging American writer called John Cheever. “If there are any similarities and there are a few between me and Mr Cheever, to connect it directly to the movie… I have a stepson (in Italy) who is 16 and I’m sure he longs to be 18 and 21. You’re always wishing when you’re young, you actually wish away your youth to be older,” Oldman said.

Exclusive: Netflix has acquired the spec Queen B, a college comedy written by Giovanni M. Porta. Cameron Fuller will produce along with Brad Fuller for Fuller Media.
Becca Gleason is rewriting for the script and while no deal is closed the plan is to develop it for her to potentially direct. Netflix had no comment.
The logline is kept under wraps but is said to be a gender swapped pic in the business of Risky Business. This is writer Giovanni M. Porta’s second spec script set up this year.
Gleason is best known for directing The Summer of 03, starring Joey King. She is repped by CAA and Navigation Media Group. Porta is repped by UTA and Range.

Writer-director Jonah Feingold’s “At Midnight” sadly isn’t so much concerned with reinvention as it is with following a formula set by its cinematic forbearers. This spin on “Notting Hill” and “Roman Holiday” (the latter is channeled and referenced throughout) shows a silver screen superstar and a hotel employee falling in love and giving their lives the push they need to achieve their dreams. Although it’s tempting not to mess with perfection, innovation through tweaks to the narrative and characters would’ve changed this Paramount Plus feature from expected to extraordinary.
