Last week, a video from the human rights advocacy group Invisible Children hit the internet with unprecedented hype, bringing in over 71 million views and generating more than 2.8 million Facebook fans in less than a week. But were all those views real or was something else going on? Kony 2012's publicity has without a doubt generated a huge amount of attention, though some have argued, that attention may have been directed in the wrong places. Nevertheless, many of us are left asking: how did they manage to do it? Tubefilter asked two viral video experts, Tony Chen, CEO of Yellow Thunder Media (who served on our Tubefilter Hollywood Meetup panel last week, Creative Marketing In Online Video), and Sarah Wood, COO and Co-Founder at Unruly Media—which created the Viral Video Chart, to weigh in. Did you tweet your favorite Suber Bowl ad? Advertisers sure hope you did. Yes, K. D. Barker's On the Shoulders of Giants is more sci-fi than horror, but once you get a look at its ridiculously fun teaser trailer, we think you'll dig on the flick's retro vibe and agree it's worthy of coverage here on Dread Central.
Plus, as Barker tells us, one of the film's underlying themes is the 'horror' of how a technology, once invented with all the best will, can ultimately be put to terrifying destructive use.
On the Shoulders of Giants stars Sarah Wood and Adam Lee, and the filmmakers are aiming for a release in the summer of 2012. We'll keep you posted on their progress, and in the meantime check out the rather lengthy synopsis below along with the teaser, a few stills, and an early poster design by one of the SFX guys.
