Intense music drama Whiplash, already a big winner at Sundance and the Deauville American Film Festival earlier this year, should drum up plenty of audience interest in its debut this weekend, even though it faces a crowded specialty market that also features several other notable newcomers, including the Bill Murray comedy St. Vincent, Hilary Swank‘s You’re Not You and Jeremy Renner‘s Kill the Messenger. All are what I’d call “big” specialty releases, with big names attached that should attract big attention.
The weekend also includes what I’d call some “small” releases, including documentaries The Overnighters (another Sundance winner) and I Am Ali, about the former heavyweight boxing champion, alongside the Mormon Church-backed Meet the Mormons. All will be clawing for attention in a market that’s seen more than 30 films debut in the past three weeks.
That said, Whiplash should be a real career turner...

He won't be coming back for Michael Bay's Transformers 4, but Josh Duhamel is now in talks for a part alongside Hilary Swank and Emmy Rossum in You're Not You, a new drama based on the book by Michelle Wildgen. The story follows a young, selfish college student who begins to see her attitude about life start to change when she becomes the caretaker for a woman with Als (better known as Lou Gehrig's Disease). Duhamel's casting was revealed by THR, but the trade doesn't say what role he will be playing in the new movie. As you probably could have guessed, Swank will be playing the dying woman while Rossum will assume the role of the self-obsessed student. George C. Wolfe, who made his feature directorial debut in 2008 with the Nicholas Sparks adaptation Nights in Rodanthe, is helming the new movie, which Shana Feste (Country Strong) and Jordan Roberts...

It looks like Emmy Rossum is back on the rise once again. After a whirlwind decade for Hilary Swank, which included winning Oscars for lead roles in both “Boys Don’t Cry” and “Million Dollar Baby,” things have slowed down recently for the actress – with only a couple films like 2010’s “Conviction” and a bit role in “New Years Eve” standing out recently. But Swank seems to be making her way back to the screen in a big way, with a Phillip Noyce-helmed HBO TV movie entitled “Mary & Martha” in the pipeline, a part alongside Meryl Streep in Tommy Lee Jones' "The Homesman," and now she’s lining up yet another feature. “Nights in Rodanthe” filmmaker George C. Not long ago a recurring award-season favorite, Hilary Swank has fallen off our radar of late appearing in such underwhelming offerings as Amelia, New Year's Eve, and Conviction, the last of which managed some critical praise but floundered at the box office. Now it seems Swank is looking to correct her course by producing a vehicle for herself in the tearjerker drama that is her forte with You're Not You. Based on the first novel of Michelle Wildgen, the film will focus on the friendship that forms between a thirty-something woman afflicted with Als (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) and her 23-year-old caretaker who is struggling to make sense of her own life, balancing a disinterest in her course load and an affair with her married professor. Swank is lined up to play the part of the immobilized invalid, and Variety reports she has selected George C. Wolfe to be her director.

You’re Not You, you should remember that title. We’ve just learned that George C. Wolfe is on board to direct the whole thing, while Hillary Swank will play the lead. Sounds great, or what?
Wolfe’s upcoming drama is based on Michelle Wildgen‘s first novel, which centers on a woman who’s suffering from a fatal illness, and an aimless young woman who enters her life as a personal caregiver.
The two confront their obstacles unsentimentally, with dark humor and unflinching candor, as their relationship is slowly stripped of pretense.
As you already guess, Swank is on board to portray that woman, while the producers are currently casting actresses for the caregiver role.
Let us also mention that Swank will also produce the project through her 2S banner.

Hilary Swank is a tough nut to crack. The two-time Oscar winner certainly has a nose for dramatic projects that dissect complicated subject matter. At the same time, the actress-producer also has shown she.s capable of attaching her name to forgettable fluff like P.S. I Love You or the currently screening rom-com, Something Borrowed. The comedy centers around "three magazine employees sent to investigate a classified ad from a man seeking a partner for time travel" and is based on an actual ad [2] that was once featured on the Jay Leno Show. Safety Not Guaranteed will be the first feature by Colin Trevorrow, who is directing from Derek Connolly's original screenplay. Big Beach Films (Little Miss Sunshine) and Duplass Brothers Productions (The Puffy Chair) are producing, which should probably give you some hint as to what kind of humor and general vibe we can expect. The film is currently shooting in Seattle. [The Hollywood Reporter [3]] After the jump, Hilary Swank considers co-starring with...

Sonja Warfield has been hired to adapt "Falling Out of Fashion," the debut novel of Karen Yampolsky, for producers Hilary Swank and Molly Smith of 2S Films. Swank and Smith launched 2S last month and signed a two-year, first-look deal with Warner Bros.-based Alcon Entertainment.
"Fashion" centers on a young woman who leaves a hippie commune in Georgia to become a magazine editor in New York. Allison Rayne will oversee the project for 2S.
Warfield, repped by CAA and Madhouse Entertainment, has written for the television shows "Will & Grace" and "Jake in Progress." She recently penned the ABC Family movie "Her Girl Friday," and she's developing a half-hour comedy with Neal Moritz for Sony TV.
Warfield also is working on a book titled "Big Fat Negro Get Your Lazy, Punk, Bitch Ass Off of My Couch," a helpful guide for women who need to "get rid of the loser in her life" that she already has pitched to New York publishers.
As part of its Alcon deal, 2S also is developing "You're Not You," Michelle Wildgen's first novel, about a dying woman and her young caregiver. Swank has not committed to starring in either 2S project. The two-time Oscar winner is filming the title role in "Amelia" (as in Earhart) for director Mira Nair and Fox Searchlight.

Two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank and executive-turned-producer Molly Smith have formed 2S Films and signed a two-year, first look agreement with Warner Bros.-based Alcon Entertainment.
2S will develop and produce movies and already has begun putting together a development slate. Two projects on the docket are adaptations based on novels the company has recently optioned for co-production with Alcon:

-- Falling Out of Fashion, a first novel by Karen Yampolsky about a young woman who leaves a Georgia hippie commune for New York with dreams of becoming a magazine editor.
2S will produce both projects, currently out to writers, and potentially for Swank to topline.
Swank has a long history with Alcon's co-founders and co-presidents Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, dating back to the 2001 drama The Affair of the Necklace and 2002's Christopher Nolan thriller Insomnia, both in which she starred.
