Paris, June 9 (Ians) Down 3-6, 6-7(3), 5-6 and facing match point against fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in French Open quarter-finals on Tuesday night, world No. 2 Daniil Medvedev decided to experiment and serve underarm. Tsitsipas, who seemed to be ready for it, blasted a backhand winner to clinch victory and book a spot in the semi-finals.
"A very millennial shot, so true. Once he took like a short break, I saw he stopped. I felt like there was something coming up, so at that point I think I got prepared for it," said Tsitsipas after the match.
"It is that, like, less of a second when you realise something is about to change from a regular [serve]. It was fine. I [did] what I had to do," added Tsitsipas while speaking to media.
The Greek tennis player, who reached his third successive Grand Slam semi-final said he is playing well and looking in great form.

Paris, June 5 (Ians) Stefanos Tsitsipas, who is looking to become youngest Grand Slam singles champion in over 11 years, has said he is satisfied with consistency in his game this year.
The Greek player, who is seeded fifth at Roland Garros this time, is just 22. He will become youngest Grand Slam winner since Juan Martin del Potro won 2009 US Open at 20, should he lift the trophy on June 13.
Tsitsipas has been impressive on clay this season, winning Monte Carlo Masters as well as the Lyon Atp event. He also reached Barcelona Open final, where he lost to Rafael Nadal in a close match.
"I have had good weeks this year. I have had some good results but I feel like there is always more," he told media after beating John Isner 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(3), 6-1 to enter fourth round of French Open.

Geneva, May 18 (Ians) World No.75 Pablo Andujar of Spain ended No. 8 Roger Federer's 32-match winning streak on Swiss soil, defeating the 39-year-old tennis great 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in the second round of the Geneva Open on Tuesday.
It was Federer's first loss in Switzerland since October 27, 2013, when Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro beat him in the Swiss Indoors Basel final.
Andujar will next face the winner of the second-round match between Switzerland's Dominic Stephan Stricker (No. 419) and Marton Fucsovics of Hungary.
Andujar placed his serve deep and capitalised on Federer's shorter groundstrokes in the early stages. Although Federer's movement improved, groundstroke errors cost the Swiss at 4-5 when Andujar wrapped up the opening set in 38 minutes.
It wasn't until the third game of the second set that Federer created his first break point off a forehand winner. With a 2-1 advantage, Federer grew in confidence and started to impose his all-court game.

Buenos Aires, March 23 (Ians) Former world No. 3 Argentine tennis star Juan Martin del Potro said that he will undergo knee surgery for the fourth time in less than two years in a bid to compete at this year's Tokyo Olympics.
The del Potro, 32, has not played since June 2019, when he suffered a fractured right patella for the second time in nine months during the Queen's Atp 500 tournament in London.
Currently ranked No. 169, Delpo has since undergone three operations, the most recent of which took place in Switzerland last August.
"We've tried conservative therapy but the pain is still there," Del Potro said in a social media post in which he revealed he would undergo surgery in Chicago on Tuesday, Xinhua news reports.
"The (doctor) knows I want to play tennis again and be able to play at the Olympics, so we agreed that surgery should be done as soon as possible.

Buenos Aires, March 11 (Ians) Former tennis world No. 3 Juan Martin del Potro said he hopes to return after a long injury layoff at this year's Tokyo Olympics.
Argentina's del Potro has not played since June 2019, when he suffered a fractured right patella for the second time in nine months during the Queen's Atp 500 tournament in London.
He has since undergone three operations, the most recent of which took place in Switzerland last August.
"I think this is my year," the 32-year-old told reporters at an event on Wednesday in which he was named the best Argentine player of the past decade, Xinhua news reported.
"The Olympic Games are giving me the motivation that I need. The knee is giving me a lot of headaches but I'm not ready to end my career yet. I feel I have more to give and that's why I'm going to keep trying," said del Potro.

With a seemingly endless amount of streaming options — not only the titles at our disposal, but services themselves — we’ve taken it upon ourselves to highlight the titles that have recently hit platforms. Every week, one will be able to see the cream of the crop (or perhaps some simply interesting picks) of streaming titles (new and old) across platforms such as Netflix, iTunes, Amazon, and more (note: U.S. only). Check out our rundown for this week’s selections below.
Borg vs. McEnroe (Janus Metz)
Juan Martin del Potro just ruined the match-up everyone wanted to see at the 2017 Us Open—a semi-final pitting Rafa Nadal against Roger Federer. Despite both being in their thirties, their rivalry has never stopped. What’s intriguing, however, is how amiable it has always been (or seemed to be). With the quieter Pete Sampras and emotional Andre Agassi a generation earlier, the same...

Despite both being in their thirties, their rivalry has never stopped. What’s intriguing, however, is how amiable it has always been (or seemed to be). With the quieter Pete Sampras and emotional Andre Agassi a generation earlier, the same was true despite their differing personalities and server versus returner billing. You could call the former a product of the latter and the latter a product of the explosive combat before them between “ice cold” Björn Borg and New York “superbrat” John McEnroe. The glaring difference of course is that their iconic war was augmented off-court by the media. It may have only really lasted two years, but the effect it had on the sport of tennis was permanent.

The Flash‘s Barry Allen might argue that he, and not Usain Bolt, is the fastest man alive. On this Earth, however, the only man capable of challenging Bolt’s title was Justin Gatlin of Team USA.
On Day 9 of the Summer Olympics, Bolt cemented his legacy, not only as Jamaica’s best-ever athlete, but as one of the greatest athletes of all time by securing his third consecutive gold medal in the 100-meter final, having previously won the sprint in 2008 and 2012. Gatlin, who came in first during the 2004 Olympics, ultimately nabbed the silver.

This year at the Olympic Games in Rio, anything can happen - especially in tennis. In a stunning upset, he was bested by Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro - the same player who had defeated him in the bronze medal match at the 2012 London Olympics. It’s week one of the Wimbledon Championships, and already those verdant courts have claimed their first surprise victim: Rafael Nadal lost in the first round to a little known Belgian. Who will we watch pick his wedgies now? We’ll leave all the tennis talk to the experts, though. Here, we’ll keep it shallow as we present to you the 20 hottest men and women who donned their cutest whites for the tournament.
Sure, we know that Rafa, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Andy Murray and Roger Federer are hot on and off the court — but we also decided to include in this list the up and comers, like American Sloane Stephens, and those others that are well-known by tennis fans but don’t make celebrity pages that often (Juan Martin Del Potro, que delicioso!). Is it Ok that we think their toned muscles are worth more than just a powerful backhand?...

It’s that time of year again, Wimbledon has rolled around and has already sprung up a surprise or two on its 1st day. Defending champion Roger Federer, after cruising through to a straight sets victory on centre court yesterday, will be hoping to mount a respectable defense of his title. While Andy Murray, Britain’s great hope, followed Federer’s example with a comfortable straight sets victory over Benjamin Becker.
While the talk of Wimbledon will inevitably fall on the world’s top players, what of the ranked outsiders, those who could easily fall at the 1st hurdle yet could also spring an upset. Everyone loves an underdog and there is no greater stage than Wimbledon for that to hold true. A perfect example is that of Goran Ivanisevic, who back in 2001 and ranked 125 won Wimbledon despite needing a wildcard for to enter. It can happen.

And with that, Andy Roddick called it a career. The 30-year-old champ, the only American man still playing to have won a grand slam singles title, lost Wednesday in the fourth round of the U.S. Open, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2, 6-4, to Argentina's Juan Martin Del Potro. Scheduled for last night, Roddick won the first set before the match was postponed due to a rain delay. Roddick announced last week that he would be retiring after this tournament, which he won in 2003. Model Brooklyn Decker watched from the stands as her hubby saved one match point but ultimately succumbed to the hard-hitting Del Potro, who just won a bronze medal at the London Olympics. President Obama and the Democrats get their chance to respond to last week’s Republican convention, as their own three-night infomercial kicks off Tuesday night in Charlotte. The Republicans had to deal with a hurricane that spared Tampa but flooded the Gulf Coast. The Democrats have their own sideshow problems: The NFL season kicks off Wednesday night.
If you’re already conventioned out, and the first blitz of football fever makes you twitch, there’s still plenty of top-notch entertainment to consume, beginning with tonight’s Breaking Bad and culminating with the premiere-packed opening weekend at the Toronto Film Festival.

Andy Murray has continued his impressive march through the Wimbledon draw with a competent 7-5 6-2 6-3 victory over Croatian Marin Cilic.
The game, which began at 15.45 on Monday finally came to a close on Tuesday at 14.00 thanks to a lengthy rain delay which saw play suspended numerous times. Though it wasn’t quite a ‘game of two halves’, there were prevalent worries that the disruption may hinder Murray’s progress, but they were quickly dispelled as Murray picked up where he left off after the rain delay, barely allowing Cilic a second-glance as he demolished the 16th seed in a storming fashion.
The first set started on even ground; both players went about breaking each other’s serve before a highly entertaining set of tennis which saw some long-winded rallies and questionable line calls before Murray won the break of serve at 6-5, and served it out 7-5 to take the first set.

Gavin Rossdale watched the same match from another section, as did Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor. Ben and Christine stuck around to see Rafael Nadal beat David Nalbandian in another game, while Will Ferrell and his wife Viveca Paulin checked out the matchup between Ana Ivanovic and Maria Sharapova. Jay-z and Beyoncé Knowles hopped in a waiting chopper today at London's Battersea Heliport. She was sporting a casual look and had her Lena Erziak handbag in tow as she headed for the helicopter. The musical married couple reunited after spending the day on separate pursuits around town. Beyoncé finished shooting footage for her exclusive interview on Piers Morgan Tonight, which airs this evening, at Harrods. Meanwhile, Jay-z took in a tennis match between Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin Del Potro at Wimbledon. Jay-z and B were in London together over the weekend for Beyoncé's Glastonbury performance. It was her first time taking the stage at the annual music festival, although Jay-z has been a featured artist there in the past. This year, she shared the top billing with acts including U2 and Coldplay, and Chris Martin's wife and their family friend, Gwyneth Paltrow, was in the audience to cheer Beyoncé on.

Raphael Nadal. Courtesy of Nike. Sports The Grand Slam tennis season has finally landed on American turf: the U.S. Open kicks off today in Flushing Meadows, New York. And the event is as wide open as ever. Majorcan sensation Rafael Nadal, our favorite player east of the border (and perhaps all around), has a tough road to the finals—he’ll have to move past U.K. star Andy Murray before potentially meeting Swiss prodigy Roger Federer in the final. A match not to miss? If all goes as planned, Federer will collide with Robin Soderling early on in the tournament. After a successful summer on the circuit and a major slim-down (he dropped 30 pounds), underdog Mardy Fish has jumped to the 19th seed. He could be a big threat on center court. Major players lost to injury: last year’s men’s titleholder, South-American heartthrob Juan Martin Del Potro; Serena Williams,...

In celebration of the fantastic news that Argentina is set to become the first country in South America to legalize same-sex marriage, I thought this would be a good time to look at eight other reasons — some gay, some not — that Argentina is great!
1) Burnt Money
This 2000 Argentinian film is based on the true story of two men who were bank robbers — and lovers — who come to a tragic end. It was also particularly noteworthy for being especially steamy. The film was nominated for and won a number of awards, but most importantly, our readers placed it at #23 on the list of Greatest Gay/Bisexual Movies of All Time.
2) Tennis star Juan Martin Del Potro and Rugby Union star Juan Martin Hernandez
Okay, Argentina is loaded with hot men, but these two especially caught our eye! Del Potro is notable because he is currently ranked the 7th best tennis player...
