Beyoncé made the biggest news of the night Sunday at the 65th annual Grammy Awards.
The singer led the 2023 Grammy Awards nominations with a total of nine. Beyoncé’s career total of 88 nominations set a new record — one tied by her husband Jay-Z, who earned five noms this year. During the Premiere Ceremony, the pop star picked up two Grammys, breaking her 28-win tie with Quincy Jones. She also won best R&b song during the live broadcast, for “Cuff It,” tying late conductor Georg Solti’s 31-win record. She wasn’t there to accept that award, having experienced a very L.A. annoyance — being stuck in traffic — but arrived later during the ceremony, with host Trevor Noah presenting her the Grammy while she was seated in the audience. Later in the show, she won best dance/electronic album for Renaissance, beating Solti’s record, with a total of 32 career wins.

The 65th Grammy Awards take place on Sunday 5 February, with music fans preparing for the rematch of the century: Adele vs Beyoncé.
Both artists are up for Album of the Year, six years after Adele took home the top prize for her third record, 25. The win over Beyoncé’s critically adored surprise album Lemonade was highly controversial; Adele herself famously declared that Beyoncé deserved the prize during her acceptance speech.
This year, the British singer is competing with her record-obliterating fourth album, 30, released in 2021. A four-star review in The Independent praised the songs as “handsomely crafted ballads about love and its various agonies”, with Adele’s voice, as ever, the main draw. “Adele possesses that perfectly imperfect voice, gargantuan and frail all at once,” critic Annabel Nugent wrote. “It’s epic without resorting to showy, melismatic affectations. It yawns into unexpected shapes and makes intonation fun.”

San Francisco, Oct 25 (Ians) Graphics chip giant Nvidia is investigating graphic card reports that have had power cables burn or melt for some users.
A Reddit user posted details of Rtx 4090 card issues, which shows burn damage on a new adapter cable. The connection on the card was also damaged and melted, reports The Verge.
Another Reddit user replied to the same thread showing similar damage to an Asus Rtx 4090 card power connector.
“We are investigating the reports, “Bryan Del Rizzo, Nvidia spokesperson, was quoted as saying in the report.
“We are in contact with the first owner and will be reaching out to the other for additional information,” he added.
There are concerns that if the 12Vhpwr power connector, which is intended for new Atx 3.0 power supplies, is bent in a particular way, it can cause problems, the report said.
Earlier, a YouTuber warned about the new connector, calling it “dangerous”, “Abut Nvidia disagreed.

“Dear White People” is anything but apathetic. The provocative, oft-misunderstood title speaks to a sense of urgency all by itself, and digging into the episodes reveals vivid arguments and imagery, ambitious story arcs and directorial choices, not to mention commanding performances from a talented ensemble. All of these assets remain in the new “Dear White People” Season 3, but its inherent desire for progress brings along a mixed bag of experiments and reversals, which when viewed in total present a more thoughtful but less potent set of episodes.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Dear White People” Season 1. Please watch the 10 episodes, now available on Netflix, before continuing — or read the spoiler-free review.]
Romance is an all-encompassing experience. Once you’re in it, there’s nothing else out there. It’s just the two of you against the world, as they say. But generally, you’re not against anything: life, and everything in it, is improved. When you’re in love, the day-to-day is all sunshine and rainbows, leaving little time for concern, let alone cause.
This kind of overwhelming emotional state is why there’s a whole genre dedicated to romance, and why it can be hard for shows to establish a truly great relationship without letting it overwhelm everything else in the series. Viewers relate to the concept of a happy ending with a happy couple, and such an instinctual reaction can prove daunting if the will-they-won’t-they drama plays out as it does in many relationships: indefinitely.

"Man, look at it out there,"Justin Simien says, gesturing to the window of the hotel suite he's currently holding court in. It's early February, and the city has just been hit by a blizzard that feels damn near Biblical; the streets below us, as well as the whole of Madison Square Park, are covered by an endless blanket of eye-blinding white. "It's like New York has been covered in Trump voters!"

Dear White People, Justin Simien’s hit Sundance film about race relations on a predominantly white Ivy League-type campus, gets expanded into a 10-episode series for Netflix.
Making its debut on Friday, April 28, the TV adaptation tells the story of racial tension largely through the perspectives of Samantha White (Logan Browning), a biracial student who uses her radio show to dress down white students who appropriate black culture; Troy Fairbanks (Brandon P. Bell), the dean’s son who is held up to a higher standard; Lionel Higgins (DeRon Horton), a freshman reporter coming to terms with his sexuality; and Coco Conners (Antoinette Robertson), a scholarship student who seeks a higher status quo.
The film, which first debuted at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, was a sharp-tongued take on what many thought of as a post-racial America following the election of President Barack Obama. Picking up where the events -- culminating with a blackface Halloween party -- of the...

Dear White People never had a chance. When virtually every TV show and film these days is mired in some controversy or another, one has to expect it from a project as fuelled by provocation as a series adaptation of Justin Simien’s critically acclaimed 2014 film. The recent uproar over the announcement teaser for the new Netflix show certainly helped set the stage for a divisive series to come, even if those who found that footage offensive likely didn’t understand the context. Using the prestigious (and fictional) Winchester University to provide a microcosmic view of large-scale racial tension, Dear White People is a satire at heart, and its social commentary – far more balanced than the mere 30-second teaser indicates – works best when it stirs up a reaction. By that metric, the show may already be a success.

Netflix’s new comedy Dear White People (arriving Friday, April 28) is like a promising college student who tails off midway through the semester: lots of potential at the beginning, followed by a disappointing lack of focus.

Media student Samantha White (Hit the Floor‘s Logan Browning) points out the casual racism she experiences every day on campus in...

After the success of his directorial debut Dear White People, writer-director Justin Simien is expanding its narrative to a new series from Netflix. The film, which followed four black students traversing a predominantly white Ivy League Schoolm met wide acclaim from critics and fans, exploring ideas of race and friendship without preaching.
The first trailer has now arrived for the 10-episode series, which features a direct takedown of problematic Halloween costumes. Arriving in a unfortunately very timely fashion, see the trailer below for the show that stars Antoine Robertson, Brandon P Bell, and Logan Browning.

Gods, best friends and struggling comedians lead the TV line-up at this year’s SXSW film festival, with six new series set to compete as Episodic selections.
This represents the fourth year that SXSW has recognized television, and in 2017 the Episodic category has increased from five to six picks: Besides the previously announced “American Gods,” adapted by Bryan Fuller and Michael Green from Neil Gaiman’s book, SXSW will screen Justin Simien’s “Dear White People,” the Netflix series based on Simien’s 2014 feature film. Showtime’s “I’m Dying Up Here” (executive produced by Jim Carrey), TV Land’s “Nobodies” (executive produced by Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone) and AMC’s “The Son” (starring Pierce Brosnan) will also make their premieres in Austin.
Also set to be screened at this year’s event: Rachael Holder’s “I Love Bekka & Lucy.”At past SXSW fests, the Episodic category has only selected shows from established networks.

Starred Up Starred Up didn't make my top ten of 2014, but it was undoubtedly one of the better movies of last year and the best movie starring Jack O'Connell who is likely to get another career boost soon with '71 as Unbroken clearly didn't make his name known to the masses. I definitely recommend you search this one out, just too bad it looks like it is only getting a DVD release.
John Wick Solid little actioner and a perfect movie to watch at home. I'm not sure you need to buy it, but definitely give it a rent.

Vulture is speaking to the screenwriters behind 2014's most acclaimed movies about the scenes they found most difficult to crack. Which pivotal sequences underwent the biggest transformations on their way from script to screen? Today we spoke to writer-director Justin Simien about the party scene near the end of his racial satire Dear White People that brings together adamant Sam (Tessa Thompson), privileged Troy (Brandon P. Bell), the eager-to-assimilate Coco (Teyonah Parris), and the ambivalent Lionel (Tyler James Williams). The blackface party scene was really tough to write. It's a multi-protagonist story, and there are so many ways to do that. One way is to sort of let every character have their own movie, and as the story progresses, we bounce around between them — but because of story economics and the economics of getting the movie made under 107 pages, I opted for the Do the Right Thing approach, where...

SyFy launched their latest mini-series in December. “Ascension” was advertised as the story of a group of people sent into space in the 60s as a lifeboat for humanity. The mission in an inter-generational voyage with the ultimate goal of allowing the future generations of the original crew to settle on a distant planet.
What they’ve really created is a pressure cooker. The crew has taken a society that was already segregated between the people doing the grunt labor and the people doing the more glamorous “service jobs” and taken it even farther. “Lower Deck” is hurled like an insult at every available opportunity. Each job on Ascension has an apprenticeship program, and while it’s possible for someone from the lower decks to apprentice for an upper deck job, they’re also made well aware that they are an exception and any misstep will result in a complete loss of status.
