Tom Petty was honored this week in a private service that appears to have been attended by only his family and closest friends ... at the same place a Beatle was laid to rest. Tom's daughter, AnnaKim Violette Petty, posted a handful of photos from the service Monday, which was held at the Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine in the Pacific Palisades. George Harrison's funeral was also held there in 2001. He was a bandmate of Tom's in The Traveling Wilburys.

Following in the footsteps of Bob Dylan, a la The Traveling Wilburys, Mick Jagger has created his own super group with Joss Stone, composer A.R. Rahman and reggae singer Damian Marley.
And with the new group, comes a new sound, as well.
In SuperHeavy, the star deviates from his famous role as the ludicrously-lipped front man of the Rolling Stones.
Jagger told the Associated Press that he has been trying his hand at rapping.
"I was just copying Damian. I do a little bit," Jagger says. "I went toasting, we call it, but it is the same thing [as rap]. Damian was doing this really good toasting, West Indian rapping, so I thought, "I could do that. It can't be that difficult." It actually was quite difficult. With a bit of practice, it is all right. It is a laugh."

Back in May, Mick Jagger announced the existence of a new supergroup called SuperHeavy, composed of himself, Dave Stewart of The Eurythmics, Joss Stone, Damien "Jr. Gong" Marley, and A.R. Rahman. The group had been jamming together since early 2009, and had kept it hush-hush. The band was the brainchild of Stewart, who had previously collaborated with Jagger and Stone and was looking to do a fusion thing with Indian orchestras. Supergroups can be a tricky proposition; it worked for the Boston Celtics, but not for the Miami Heat. There's Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young and The Traveling Wilburys, and then there's Slash's Snakepit and Zwan. The Jay-z/ Kanye collaboration has understandably been sucking up most of the musical-hype oxygen lately, but the SuperHeavy experiment is intriguing. The buzz has been mostly positive, with some saying it's more eclectic than electric. The group'[...]...
