Swiss film startup FinFilm, an innovative platform that finances European and African film projects, has boarded the Sky Original family adventure film “Robin and the Hoods.”
The Zurich-based company is actively involved in co-financing the film as a gap lender.

When an unscrupulous developer (Harris) threatens their magical kingdom of overgrown bushes at the end of their cul-de-sac, the tenacious Robin and her loyal friends, the “Hoods,” take matters into their own hands to save their beloved woodland.
“Robin and the Hoods” is produced by Claudia Bluemhuber, managing partner at Zurich-based Silver Reel and Matt Williams of Future Artists Entertainment in London.

Exclusive: Film and TV financier Silver Reel has beaten studio A24 in a bidding war for the rights to make a television spin-off of British director Jonathan Glazer’s cult sci-fi feature Under The Skin.
The Silver Reel deal comes after the producer originally bankrolled the 2013 Scarlett Johansson movie alongside Film4 and the BFI, and brings to a head its protracted attempts to get a television series off the ground.
Silver Reel was involved in appointing administrators last year to wind up Under The Skin‘s production vehicle Seventh Kingdom Productions. Insolvency company Cork Gully was put in charge of selling Seventh Kingdom’s assets, including the TV rights.
Deadline reported in January that Silver Reel and A24 were both making rival bids for the rights, and late last month, Cork Gully awarded the TV and film assets to Silver Reel, according to company filings.

Exclusive: A potential TV spin-off of British director Jonathan Glazer’s cult sci-fi feature Under The Skin has sparked a bidding war between the film’s original financier Silver Reel and studio A24.
Based on a novel by Michel Faber, Under The Skin was director Glazer’s first film in a decade when it landed in 2013, winning awards and critical acclaim for its story about an alien, played by Scarlett Johansson, who preys on men in Scotland. Now, seven years after its first release, a protracted discussion about a television series, and the demise of the company that produced the movie, has culminated in Silver Reel and A24 going toe-to-toe for the TV rights.

“The Crown” star Vanessa Kirby is swapping British royalty for outer space after signing on for “StarDream,” the upcoming sci-fi movie from “The Wife” helmer Bjorn Runge.
Kirby takes the lead role of Andreya in the Silver Reel and Bigscope Films-produced picture, which follows the story of a spaceship hastily constructed to transport hundreds of thousands of cryogenically frozen humans from a failing planet Earth. When the on-board computer malfunctions, coder Andreya develops an artificial intelligence-based solution that she calls Stephen. But Stephen develops a profound attachment to Andreya, compromising the mission and the future of the human race.
Kirby landed a BAFTA for her portrayal of Princess Margaret in “The Crown.” She left the Netflix show after it welcomed a new cast for its latest seasons, appeared in “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” and has since signed on for Adam Leon’s untitled New York-set feature and Mona Fastvold’s “The World to Come.

Foxcatcher and Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind producer Anthony Bregman delivered a wide-ranging keynote yesterday at the Efm in Berlin on the subject of algorithms and how Netflix has disrupted the film business.
Delivering the industry keynote ‘Future Proofing Film Production and Finance,’ Bregman, Chairman of the Independent Filmmaker Project (Ifp) Board of Directors, said that the reason Netflix managed to disrupt the film business so successfully is because they use a more sophisticated and better algorithm than the studios when deciding which films to green light.
For much of his keynote speech, the Likely Story President and CEO, spoke with a definition of algorithm on the white board behind him. He claimed that Netflix changed the game because they would pick up films rejected by studios at the same budget and make successes out of them.
Bregman said that every film is made because of algorithms, “Algorithms have always dictated what was made.

Production is under way on Altitude Film Entertainment and Citrus Films’ family movie Horrible Histories: The Movie – Rotten Romans, based on the popular children’s book series by Terry Deary and illustrated by Martin Brown.
Shooting now on location in the UK and Bulgaria, the film will cast the antics of the Roman Empire in a comedic light. It will follow Atti, a Roman teenager with brains but very little brawn. When one of his clever schemes falls foul of Emperor Nero, he is forced to join the army and is sent to miserable, cold, wet Britain where the natives are revolting – quite literally. Things go from bad to worse when Atti is captured by Orla, a feisty teenage Celt desperate to prove herself as a warrior.
Dominic Brigstocke, director of the TV version of the series, will make his feature directorial debut. Script comes from Jessica Swale together with Giles Pilbrow and Caroline Norris.

The scope of this slice of wartime history is so small, it’s almost the movie equivalent of a one-man show. There are perhaps only a dozen speaking roles. Brian Cox is impressive as The Man Who Saved England in its Darkest Hour, but the drama reduces both the man and the historical crisis to trivial status, as little more than a personal emotional crisis: “Winston, the Haunted Imperialist.”
