7:50 p.m.: Hello from the 49th annual Acm Awards in Las Vegas. We'll be blogging live from the press room, which means we'll be commenting on the action you're seeing on TV, but also on what's going on backstage as the artists come back to talk to the press. The Band Perry are opening the show with an explosive version of "Chainsaw," and the performers' list is a virtual who's who of country: Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Lady Antebellum, Florida Georgia Line, George Strait, Keith Urban, Luke Bryan, Brad Paisley and more. Little Big Town hit the red carpet at the 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas with four nominations under their belts, the most for any group. Before the band even made it inside the show, they won Video of the Year.
Bob Romeo, CEO of the Academy, stepped out on to the arrivals line to surprise the Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook and Philip Sweet with the trophy. "Tornado" director Shane Drake says, "I do remember when I first got this track, the idea was pretty immediate. I immediately had the visuals and they're all pretty bizarre." Drake says he thought it was along shot that anyone in the band would read his treatment, or think it made sense. "Thank God they did and it worked out," Drake says. "This is one I'm very very proud of.
Fairchild spreads the message of thanks to Capitol Records and the band's management.
