Not so long back, I had no idea what For All Mankind was really about. I’d heard that Star Trek veteran and Battlestar Galactica and Outlander creator Ronald D. Moore had co-created a new show that was streaming on Apple TV+, but since I didn’t have the service, it wasn’t in my orbit. That all changed this year when I got access to Apple TV+ and decided to catch up on their big offerings.
What’s been clear from my experience with the streamer thus far is that Apple doesn’t just heavily invest in “content”. They don’t seem to greenlight a series, briefly check some numbers from an algorithm, then cancel it (cough Netflix). They don’t give creators the chance to make something fascinating and then bury it somewhere under a terrible interface (cough Prime). And they don’t typically delete an entire series...

Power can look like a lot of things, and nothing quite exemplifies that like the world of comic books. In this case, the soon-to-be-defunct DC Extended Universe (Dceu).
The interconnected DC universe hasn’t been around as long as its Marvel counterpart, but the Warner Bros. franchise has served up a kaleidoscopic roster of heroes, supervillains and antiheroes that can do serious damage to their opponents. But they’ve got different ways of doing it.
With his combination of superhuman strength, speed, flight and laser-eyes, Superman can plow through you, pummel you to dust or incinerate you with his vision. He could grab you by the arm and fly 100,000 feet into the air before dropping you back to the ground where your body would most definitely be destroyed. The Flash can run so fast that he can literally alter history and bring the world to the brink of destruction. Or,...

The voice cast for the upcoming DC Creature Commandos animated series at Max (the newly rebranded name for HBO Max) has been set, and it’s filled with familiar names. Frank Grillo, David Harbour, Maria Bakalova, Indira Varma, Zoe Chao, Alan Tudyk, Sean Gunn and Steve Agee have been announced as voicing the titular characters in the James Gunn-written series. Grillo’s casting is extra special, with him playing Rick Flagg Sr. Gunn noted on Twitter that Grillo will be playing the role across “all media,” so expect him to show up as the character in live-action projects too.
Rick Flag Sr is the father of Rick Flag, who was played by Joel Kinnaman in Suicide Squad and its Gunn-directed sequel, The Suicide Squad. Notably, he was killed off by John Cena’s Peacemaker in that movie, and it’s possible to if and when Peacemaker Season 2 happens,...

If you’ve seen James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad,” you know that the film is basically a reboot of the franchise but with a few returning characters, such as Harley Quinn, Rick Flagg, and Amanda Waller. But one of the biggest names from David Ayer’s “Suicide Squad” that didn’t show up is Will Smith as Deadshot. And according to a new interview, it appears the reason Smith didn’t show up is purely a scheduling issue, and he’s actually open to returning as his assassin superhero.

If there’s one upcoming Star Wars Disney+ I’m not too excited for, it’s the Andor series. I think many Star Wars fans would agree, due to the fact that the character isn’t exactly in the top ten greatest Star Wars characters debate. He was on the suicide squad team from Rogue One and the rebellion agent responsible for bringing the group together. Basically, he was Rick Flagg, only his bringing together of the team was more coincidental. And just like the rest of the team from Rogue One, Cassian Andor perished to obtain the plans for the Death Star. He

As we enter the final weeks of Summer, the multiplex presents a new entry in the film adaptations of the (as they used to say in their comic books) “Distinguished Competition” to Marvel. Yes, the MCU made its return to the cinemas several weeks ago with Black Widow, which continues on the smaller screens (and its behind-the-scenes” conflicts are played out in the entertainment news venues), so it was only a matter of time before Warners shot back with a film based on its DC properties. And yes, it’s a sequel, with several characters from the 2016 original coming back, but it’s also kind-of-a-reboot since one of the Marvel “guiding lights” has “jumped the fence” to serve up a new take on the “high-concept” “revolving door” comic series. Perhaps that’s why the title sports a “proper article’ rather than a number two (or II). So. let’s strap...

Warning: this post contains spoilers for “The Suicide Squad”
There have been a number of actors who have popped up in movies based on both Marvel and DC Comics properties, and “The Suicide Squad” has a couple of its own to add to the list: David Dastmalchian, who was also in “Ant-Man and The Wasp,” as well as a surprise cameo appearance by someone director James Gunn brought over from his “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies.
Director James Gunn made an appearance on the latest episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, where he said he was “astounded” that the cameo hadn’t been revealed in the hundreds of reviews that have been published so far.
“Well, I mean people know I almost cast Dave [Bautista] in a role and he couldn’t do it, so he didn’t,” Gunn said. “Other than that, well, there might be a Guardian somewhere...

This article contains major The Suicide Squad spoilers. But you could tell that from the headline. We have a spoiler-free review here.
Well done! You’ve survived The Suicide Squad!
James Gunn’s stunning supervillain flick is a brutal ride through DC’s most deep cut characters and now you want to dig deep into what happened. So we’re here to break down that shocking ending, where we leave our heroes, and what’s next for the Suicide Squad in the Dceu. Well, those of them who survived, at least…
The standalone (sort of sequel) movie centers around the Suicide Squad on a top secret mission. So off they go to Corto Maltese.
We begin with two crews but only one actually survives the opening bloodbath. Those lucky few are led by Bloodsport (Idris Elba) and the crew consists of Ratcatcher 2 (Daniela Melchior), Polka-Dot Man (David Dastmalchian), Nanaue/King...

Taking a break from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, director James Gunn steps away, albeit briefly, from the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise (he directed both the original 2014 film and its 2017 sequel) to dip his toes into the DC Universe and with a new interpretation of The Suicide Squad.
Reprising her role of Amanda Waller from the original film version of Suicide Squad (2016), Viola Davis sets the film in motion when she assembles a team of the worst villains she can find and then heavily arming them and sending them on a search-and-destroy mission to the island of Corto Maltese to take out the latest diabolical threat to the global community. To do so, Waller enlists Colonel Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman) to lead the unit (which is called the “Suicide Squad” due to the tiny explosives placed in the various soldiers’ necks to be detonated should they try to escape or...

This week I will be taking an indepth look at two items I will soon be listing for sale. Both listings play into the topic of speculation, but in very different ways. I will look at what makes these comics desirable from a comics point of view and any movie tie-ins. Then I will break down the grade I have given each comic and the debate potential listing prices.
First up is Suicide Squad #2 from 1987. I brought this off eBay way back in February. Originally I was looking at an #1 for £5, which eventually went for £15. It would have still been a tidy profit come the new movies release. I picked up #2 for just 92p plus £2.93 P+P. So the challenge of making a profit off of a second issue proved to good to turn down. So what are this issues key selling points?

Sylvester Stallone has joined the second Suicide Squad, according to an Instagram post by writer-director James Gunn.
Not everyone is returning from the original 2016 film. Margot Robbie and Jai Courtney are back as Harley Quinn and Captain Boomerang, as are Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) and Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg). Gunn will be including some new supervillians with big names attached. Nathan Fillion (T.D.K.), Idris Elba (Bloodsport), and John Cena (Peacemaker) are known, with Stallone now joining. There is some speculation that he will be the voice of King Shark.
Stallone himself confirmed his participation by posting a video to Instagram acknowledging he was on his way to go film a scene.
Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is set to open in theaters August 6, 2021.
In a tweet showcasing the new cast pic on the cover of Empire magazine, Gunn asked “What two characters do you think are most likely to survive #TheSuicideSquad?...

At DC Fandome’s panel for The Suicide Squad, Warner Brothers and the crew of the movie finally revealed all of the returning characters for the upcoming movie, and I still can’t believe we’re finally getting big screen Arm Fall Off Boy. Also Harley Quinn is back.
Returning from the first movie are several characters: Harley Quinn, played almost perfectly (twice!) by Margot Robbie; Boomerang gets to be a Captain in this movie, played by Jai Courtney; Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller; and Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flagg. But it’s the new cast members who are big surprises.
Check out this stylish video revealing who everybody’s playing. It’s pretty great. Then we’ll help explain who is who.
John Cena joins the movie as Peacemaker. We’ll have more on him soon, but he’s a Captain America-type heavily involved in the super spy agencies of the DC universe.

Task Force X are returning to theaters for the first time in what will be five years in 2021’s The Suicide Squad. In a bid to avoid the same mistakes as 2016’s first movie featuring the brood of bad guys, though, DC hired Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn to helm this sequel/reboot. Fans have been waiting patiently – and not so patiently – to get their first glimpse at the film since production wrapped earlier this year and now, at last, it’s arrived.

This is good news for DC Entertainment fans and Doctor Who fans alike, not to mention all thinking, feeling humans: More Peter Capaldi is always a good thing.
Gunn is both writing and directing The Suicide Squad for DC, which will feature an entirely new group of villains. There are tons of rumors flying about this sequel, from who will be returning to who won't be returning (no doubt we'll get more confirmations once production kicks into high gear), but, for confirmed new characters currently include: Ratcatcher (Daniela Melchor), King Shark (Steve Agee), Polka-Dot Man (David Dastmalchian...

James Gunn's close friend and Rookie actor Nathan Fillion has joined Suicide Squad 2 a.k.a. The Suicide Squad in an unknown role.
Can a James Gunn movie still be a James Gunn movie without a Nathan Fillion appearance in some capacity? Thankfully we'll never have to find out when it comes to Suicide Squad 2 a.k.a. The Suicide Squad.
Deadline reports that Nathan Fillion, star of ABC's The Rookie and pop culture's chill Canadian buddy, has joined the cast of The Suicide Squad. It is unknown who (or what) Fillion will be playing.
Fillion and Suicide Squad 2 director James Gunn have a long creative history together. Fillion starred in Gunn's 2006 horror comedy debut Slither. He also turned up in 2010's Super, and lent his voice to a hulking alien inmate in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Though director James Gunn has certainly been playing it coy as of late, we’re all pretty much expecting for The Suicide Squad to be a soft reboot. After all, it’s set to feature a lineup greatly differing from the one featured in the previous flick.
Still, one would think it insane to discard every character from Task Force X’s first mission on the big screen. Love it or hate it, David Ayer’s Suicide Squad was a financial success and merchandising monster, with the latter owing a lot to Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. And with Will Smith not returning as Deadshot, it’d be in the studio’s best interest to retain another marquee player.
Now, this isn’t the first time Gunn has teased Harley for his movie, but any bit of reassurance certainly helps. This time, on Instagram, the Marvel/DC switch-hitter posted a...

Guardians of the Galaxy franchise actor Michael Rooker is looking to reunite with director James Gunn for DC’s The Suicide Squad. According to The Wrap, the actor is in talks to play King Shark in the movie!
I always imagined Dave Bautista in the role of King Shark, but you know what? Rooker would probably be even more awesome in the role! It’s really easy to imagine him as King Shark and it’d be great to actually see him bring the character to life.
King Shark is as intelligent as a human. He can talk normally and can also read. He also has a very keen sense of humor and one of his greatest fears is being vegetarian. In the comics, King Shark acted as a serial killer for years in Hawaii. He became Aquaman’s sidekick at one point and he has been a member of the Secret Six,...

Writer and director James Gunn has cast Ant-Man actor David Dastmalchian in the role of the DC comic book villain Polka-Dot Man in his upcoming film The Suicide Squad. Seems like great casting for the role. He looks like he could easily play Polka-Dot Man.
It was previously rumored that this character would be in the film, so this is obviously the confirmation we’ve been waiting for. The character Polka-Dot Man debuted in 1962's Detective Comics No. 300. “Abner Krill was a low-level crook who tried to make a name for himself with spot-themed crimes and a costume that included some amazing gimmicks, such as spots that transformed into buzzsaws and flying saucers on command.”
According to THR, “the character is said to lean into his embarrassment of his ‘lame’ abilities.”

It looks like John Cena (Bumblebee) could end up joining James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. The actor is currently in talks to take on one of the lead roles.
Cena will join Idris Elba in the film along with returning cast members Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg.
There’s no word on who Cena will play in the film, but some of the characters rumored for the film include Ratcatcher, Peacemaker, King Shark, and Polka Dot Man. There’s also supposed to be a monstrous alien woman who will also appear in the film, and Killer Frost is rumored to show up as well.

Writer and director James Gunn took to Instagram to confirm his inspiration for his upcoming DC film The Suicide Squad. He posted an image on his Instagram Stories of a cover of one of John Ostrander’s Suicide Squad comics confirming that his upcoming film will draw from this acclaimed ‘80s comic book run.
Deadshot and Rick Flagg have central roles in the comic series, and it had a rotating cast of supporting characters. One of those characters is Bronze Tiger, a prominent Suicide Squad member during Ostrander's run. Bronze Tiger could very well be the new character that Elba is playing in the film, since he is no longer playing Deadshot.
It makes sense that Gunn would be influenced by a comic run from the ‘80s. Guardians of the Galaxy also had a heavy ‘80s influence. There is no specific storyline that Gunn will adapting. Like Guardians, he will...

Even though it’s been said that James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad will be a “total reboot”, with many of the original cast members returning, it seems like this is going to be more of a soft reboot.
We’ve already learned that Viola Davis will be back as Amanda Waller, Margot Robbie will be back as Harley Quinn, and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang. Then there’s Idris Elba who is replacing Will Smith as Deadshot.
Now, it’s being reported that Joel Kinnaman will reprise his role as Rick Flagg in the James Gunn-directed DC film. So, if that’s something you’ve been wondering about… there’s your answer!

Idris Elba is still in The Suicide Squad, but not as Deadshot. And some other familiar faces are returning, too.
Well, this should finally put a bullet in all that "The Suicide Squad is a reboot" chatter. Sure, new writer/director James Gunn will likely bring a very different tone to the proceedings than David Ayer did, and by design, most of the Suicide Squad itself is generally pretty expendable. And while it can probably generously be considered a reboot inasmuch as it doesn't overtly reference the events of its predecessor much (see how little time was given to "other" Dceu movies in Aquaman and Shazam!), it appears that Warner Bros. is hoping to at least keep a certain continuity of characters.
The plan had long been for Will Smith's Deadshot, Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, and Viola Davis' Amanda Waller to return for the sequel.

Now that we know for sure James Gunn is both writing and directing Task Force X’s next cinematic outing, incidentally titled The Suicide Squad, the team lineup is already looking to take shape. And as one would expect, it appears as though the former Guardians of the Galaxy helmer is taking the whimsical approach.
If recent reports pan out, then moviegoers can look forward to seeing King Shark, Polka-Dot Man, Peacemaker and a gender-swapped Ratcatcher standing in for most of the convicts we came to know in 2016. Aside from maybe King Shark, none of those mentioned were on my personal wishlist, but what can you do?
When it comes to familiar faces, however, that’s where it gets a little trickier. You see, while Margot Robbie is expected to return as Harley Quinn, Will Smith is out as Deadshot and Idris Elba could very well replace him as DC’s greatest marksman.

Ever since it was announced that James Gunn would be writing and directing The Suicide Squad, fans have wondered what his character line-up would look like. After all, it was reported that his “focus is to take the franchise in a new direction with a mostly all-new cast of characters and actors.”
We know that Idris Elba will replace Will Smith as Deadshot, and Margot Robbie will return as Harley Quinn, but now we know who some of the other character might be thanks to Collider. Here’s the list they provided:
Ratcatcher a.k.a Otis Flannegan, who is a male in the DC universe, will be gender-swapped and played by a woman in The Suicide Squad. “Ratcatcher is is a super-criminal and one of Batman’s many enemies. Will Smith out; Idris Elba in.
That was very much the big Suicide Squad announcement yesterday evening, when The Hollywood Reporter revealed that James Gunn’s retooled sequel will draft Elba, star of Luther and the upcoming Hobbs and Shaw spinoff, into the vacant role of Deadshot.
He’s one of three existing characters expected to return for The Suicide Squad, given Gunn is said to be cooking up a story that involves a fresh roster of DC anti-heroes not featured in David Ayer’s 2016 flop. So while Joel Kinnaman is unlikely to return as the gruff Rick Flagg, there is still room in James Gunn’s roster for Deadshot, Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) and the inimitable Harley Quinn.
Yes, it seems the Clown Princess of Crime will be suiting up for the 2021 sequel, after all…

James Gunn's The Suicide Squad has replaced Will Smith with Idris Elba as Deadshot.
Well, that didn't take long.
Just a week after Will Smith bowed out of Warner Bros' Suicide Squad 2, the James Gunn written-and-directed The Suicide Squad, they've already found their replacement Deadshot. And just in case you were wondering if the star power of this movie would be diminished by Smith's departure, think again, because Variety reports that Idris Elba is stepping into Floyd Lawton's helmet.
No other casting is currently in place for The Suicide Squad, but it is generally believed that the plan was always to see Margot Robbie and Viola Davis reprise their roles as Harley Quinn and Amanda Waller alongside Smith's (now Elba's) Deadshot. With Smith gone, Elba should provide plenty of name recognition to bolster the team. Elba and Gunn now make two McU alum on Suicide...

We’ve heard it said for a while now that James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad will feature a mostly-new cast, and with the recent departure of Will Smith from the project, that claim may be truer than even Warner Bros. intended. That being said, it’s generally expected that the follow-up to 2016’s Suicide Squad will at least see Harley Quinn return to the fray, even if it’s yet to be confirmed that Margot Robbie is reprising her role. But as for Joel Kinnaman’s Col. Rick Flag, well, that remains to be seen.
THR recently reported that Idris Elba is in talks to replace Smith as the new Deadshot, and in a paragraph near the bottom of the article, some additional intel is relayed:
“Gunn is said to be using mostly DC characters who did not appear in David Ayer’s 2016 film although several are expected to return including Deadshot,...

Now that the McU has killed off its Heimdall, it seems that Idris Elba may be at liberty to join the DC universe, with THR reporting that the actor is now in talks to play Deadshot in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.
As you may be aware, the role of Floyd Lawton was originally handled by Will Smith in the original 2016 Suicide Squad, but as per last month’s announcement, it looks like the actor won’t be reprising his part for the upcoming sequel. Since then, it’s been reported that Warner Bros. was debating whether to recast Deadshot or replace him with a new character, and if the new THR piece is anything to go by, then it seems we have our answer.
According to the outlet’s sources, Elba met with Gunn on Friday, and their discussion went so well that talks have now begun in earnest with the studio.

Suicide Squad 2 is called The Suicide Squad, features James Gunn writing and directing, and will arrive in 2021.
It looks like Suicide Squad 2 is a bigger priority for Warner Bros. than we thought. After the project failed to find momentum under director Gavin O'Connor and writer Todd Stashwick, the studio brought in Guardians of the Galaxy writer/director James Gunn to breathe new life into Suicide Squad 2. And it would appear he has. The sequel to the 2016 film now has a brand new title, The Suicide Squad, which would seem to indicate that they're looking to distance themselves a little from the first film. Understandable, as despite it's nearly $750 million global box office haul, it wasn't particularly beloved by critics, and appeared to be the victim of some hasty editing to counter the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice backlash, and perhaps try and capture some of the Guardians of the Galaxy quirkiness.
