Is the decade-long “The Voice” Instant Save curse about to be broken? If John Legend‘s Florida singer Omar Jose Cardona ends up winning Season 22 during the Tuesday, December 13 finale, he’ll make history as the first artist to prevail who was previously saved by social media users. Since the creation of the Instant Save twist in Season 6, none of its recipients have ever gone on to win “The Voice.” Britton Buchanan (Season 14) and Toneisha Harris (Season 18) came closest by each placing second behind their winners, but all of the other times the saved artist finished near the bottom of their respective finales.

Hip-hop artist Lil Nas X made a stir in the country music industry when he released the genre-bending “Old Town Road” and it became a smash hit. Though the song incorporates country music style and instrumentation, Billboard shunned it from the country charts. And even though the Associated Press reports that the song is eligible for Country Music Association Awards for Single of the Year and Song of the Year, it may be too divisive to get in. But I think it should.
Grammy- and Cma-winning songwriter Shane McAnally told the AP, “I just think country people do not see that as a country song … I will be shocked if it makes the final ballot.” But is it really an issue of genre purity? Country industry awards have no problem accepting music that has blurred genre lines, like Jason Aldean‘s rapping and Florida Georgia Line‘s trap beats and Nelly remixes.

It takes a bold look to truly stand out on the red carpet. At the 2019 Cmt Music Awards, stars like Meghan Linsey, Leon Bridges and Lindsay Ell are making big impressions with their red carpet looks. Sequins, psychedelic looks and wide-brimmed hats are popping up in a ton of these celebs' ensembles, as they strive to make the most of their time on the carpet. While the Nashville award show, and the country community at large, is known for their flare for the dramatic, some performers are truly taking their style up a notch. Season 16 of “The Voice” recently concluded with Maelyn Jarmon from Team John Legend winning the latest title in the long-running NBC competition series. (Watch our video interview with Maelyn.) Although the songbird from Team John was Gold Derby’s odds-on favorite to win, it was Blake Shelton who coached three of the four finalists including country singers Gyth Rigdon, Dexter Roberts and Andrew Sevener. That brings us to an impressive statistic for Shelton. Not only has he won more titles than any other coach, with six total, but he’s also had more runners-up and finalists as well.

It’s official: There’s a curse on “The Voice” Instant Save.
Ever since this twist was created back in Season 6, no artist that’s been saved by Twitter or brought back via a wild card has ever gone on to win the show. Even more troubling, all of the Instant Save recipients have placed last in their respective finales aside from Britton Buchanan, who defied the odds to place second to Brynn Cartelli in Season 14. This year Andrew Sevener of Team Blake Shelton tried his hardest to break the curse but he, too, ended up placing last in Tuesday’s season finale.

Is a long-standing “The Voice” curse about to be broken? If Blake Shelton‘s country singer Andrew Sevener ends up winning Season 16 during Tuesday’s finale, he’ll make history as the first artist to prevail who was previously saved by Twitter. Amazingly, since the Instant Save twist was first enacted back in Season 6, no recipient has ever gone on to win “The Voice.” Britton Buchanan came the closest in Season 14 by being the runner-up to winner Brynn Cartelli, but all of the other times — including last season with Kennedy Holmes — the saved artist finishes last in their respective finales.

Brynn Cartelli won season 14 of “The Voice” on Tuesday by edging out Britton Buchanan in one of the closest votes in the history of the reality competition series. Buchanan, who was coached by one-time winning coach Alicia Keys, had been strongly positioned heading into Tuesday’s finale based on his performances on Monday’s final.
Two of the three songs that Buchanan performed on May 21 made the iTunes top 10, thus qualifying for the vote multiplier. He grabbed the top spot with his original single “Where You Come From.” And his cover of the Young Rascals classic “Good Lovin” took the 10th and final slot. (His duet with Keys on “Wake Me Up” by Avicii ranked 19th).
Cartelli, who was mentored by rookie coach Kelly Clarkson, also landed two of her three songs in the top 10 on iTunes. She was in third place on the sales chart with the original tune...

The 14th champion of “The Voice” is set to be crowned on Tuesday, May 22 but according to our latest Gold Derby odds, it may not be the artist most fans were expecting. Team Alicia Keys‘ Britton Buchanan has been the favorite to take home the grand prize throughout most of the season, but things were shaken up during the Tuesday, May 15 live results show. The frontrunner hit a major roadblock when he failed to earn enough votes to yield a Top 3 finish, forcing him to battle it out for the final Instant Save of the season. Since the Instant Save made its debut in Season 6, no artist advancing to the finale by this method has ever won “The Voice.” In fact, they all finished in last place in their finales.

Emotions were running high during Jordin Sparks' performance of the national anthem as part of Monday Night Football.
Ahead of her singing, the entire Dallas Cowboys team took a knee, while players of the Arizona Cardinals locked arms with members of the military.
More and more players have been kneeling in protest during the national anthem following President Donald Trump's recent remarks that any athletes that take a knee during the song should be "fired."

When Meghan Linsey appeared on The Voice in 2015, she’d already connected with one of the coaches: Blake Shelton.
The country singer once opened up for Shelton on tour as one-half of former duo Steel Magnolia. Still, her rousing blind audition turned every coach’s chair but Shelton’s, and landed her on Team Pharrell.

As many of you have been predicting for weeks, 16-year-old Sawyer Fredericks was crowned "The Voice" champion Tuesday night. The young crooner has been the frontrunner since the Top 20 was determined for the live shows in early April. His coach Pharrell Williams, a Grammy Award-winning producer and artist himself, now his his first winning contender in his second year on the show. Related: Sawyer Fredericks is overwhelming favorite to win 'The Voice' -Break- In our last round of votes before the results show started Tuesday night (see chart at left), Fredericks was the overwhelming 1/4 choice with 80% predicting him to prevail. In fact, Gold Derby's combined predictions were right on the money in three out of four cases. Meghan Linsey was in second place at 15/2 for her coach Blake Shelton. We had Joshua Davis for Team Adam Levine in the fourth position at 33/1, but he actually made it to third place.

During Blind Auditions, he ignited what was probably the fastest four-chair turn in the history of The Voice. Now, 16-year-old Sawyer Fredericks has been crowned the singing competition’s Season Eight champ, and no one is surprised -- not the audience, not his fellow contestants and especially not his coach, Pharrell Williams, who notched his first Voice victory Tuesday night with the shy, young folk artist from a farm in upstate New York.

There were three losers and only one winner on The Voice‘s Season 8 finale — that is, if you chose to look at the Starbucks-sponsored plastic cup as half full.

We've made it to The Voice season 8 finale! Joshua Davis, Koryn Hawthorne, Meghan Linsey and Sawyer Fredericks each performed an original song, a new song and a duet with their coach on Monday night and now it's time to announce the winner.
So who will win season 8? While Josh is my personal favorite artist, I would predict that Sawyer's going to win this season. Sawyer has had such a huge following throughout the competition that he's a clear frontrunner. However, Meghan also has a chance to win. She's obviously really talented and has the experience to back her up. While Koryn has a great voice, I don't think she's going to win.

Countless chair turns, cutthroat eliminations, and too many Beatles songs later, it’s time for the season 8 finale of The Voice! With Christina Aguilera’s final contestant eliminated last week, the race is on between the remaining three coaches and their four contestants. On Monday, May 18, each artist sang one cover and one song with their coach and, for the first time in The Voice’s history, they were also allowed to sing original songs. Team Blake Shelton’s Meghan Linsey and Team Adam Levine’s Joshua Davis each debuted songs [...]...

Night One of The Voice's two-night finale featured original songs from each of the finalists, for the first time in the show's history. Nashville soul singer Meghan Linsey and Michigan folk rocker Joshua Davis each premiered self-penned numbers, while the two teenage contestants showcased tunes by a pair of well-known Grammy winners: Ray Lamontagne and Voice coach Pharrell Williams.

Here we are, fans of The Voice, with another season complete. Four artists remain in season 8: powerful and soulful Koryn Hawthorne, eclectic and folksy Sawyer Fredericks, versatile and gravely-voiced Meghan Linsey and soft-spoken Joshua Davis. All four are outstanding. One of them will win a recording contract and the title of The Voice. Here are my rankings based on their Top 4 performances.

We're down to the final four on The Voice, and the battle to become the winner took on a whole new meaning during tonight's season eight performance finale! Koryn Hawthorne, Meghan Linsey, Sawyer Fredericks and Joshua Davis took to The Voice stage three times each during the two-hour episode, each delivering three knock-out performances. But who was the best? First up was Koryn Hawthorne, on Team Pharrell. She performed a killer version of James Brown's "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" before she was joined onstage by Pharrell himself to sing The Beatles' "We Can Work It Out" and her original track "Bright Fire." The greatest superhero movie of summer went down on Monday night — in the reality-competition genre, of all places! — and there wasn’t a single exploding car, collapsing building or vortex into another dimension in sight.
Some people might refer to it as The Voice‘s Season 8 Performance Finale, but to my ears, we might as well dub it Sawyer Vs. Koryn: Wonder-Teen Vocals Activate! (which, come to think of it, would be the kind of Saturday morning fare I’d encourage my children to watch).

We're down to the penultimate installment of The Voice season 8 when the remaining four artists will deliver their final decisive performances. Three months and more than 10 performances ago, Koryn Hawthorne, Sawyer Fredericks, Joshua Davis and Meghan Linsey threw their vocal cords into the ring against 44 other artists, daring to dream that they would be performing live in this final round after which one will be crowned The Voice.
From the beginning, it was clear that Sawyer and Meghan had a reasonable shot at making it, but who would have pegged shy, powerful teen Koryn or mellow, folksy Joshua to surpass such phenomenal performers as Kimberly Nichole, Mia Z, Cody Wickline and Sarah Potenza? Not I, my friends. It just goes to show you that endurance and grace under fire are what it takes to get this far. All four of these finalists are gifted with both of those.
