Henry Cejudo is back for his belt.
After retiring as a champion in 2020, Cejudo’s bantamweight title was vacated and quickly picked up by Petr Yan. In 2021, Yan lost the championship to Aljamain Sterling, who has successfully defended the title twice. Now, Cejudo has come out of retirement to reclaim the bantamweight title.
To make the card more interesting, Movsar Evloev and Diego Lopes are set to clash before Sterling and Cejudo.

The Ufc returns this weekend with a rare Sunday night show as Ufc Fight Night 81 goes down in Boston, Ma with a bantamweight title fight between the surging T.J. Dillashaw and former champion Dominick Cruz.
Dillashaw has been on a high the past year and a half, having upset dominant champion Renan Barao, and beat the ex-champ again in a rematch, with a win over Joe Soto sandwiched in between the Barao fights. Dillashaw also had a highly publicized split from Urijah Faber’s Team Alpha Male, but the bottom line is that he’s the biggest success story to come out of The Ultimate Fighter in years, and has looked great in the octagon.
However, come Sunday, he’s facing former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz – a man who never actually lost his title. Instead, he was stripped of the belt due to injury, something that has plagued him throughout his career.

The last Ufc event prior to Ufc 179 is in the books, and it provided a solid night of action, though little that really surprised in comparison to how the card played out on paper. At Ufc Fight Night 54, all the favourites on the main picked up victories, with no exceptions – the exact opposite to how the day’s earlier card, Ufc Fight Night 53 (a.k.a. His win in the third round against Tarec Saffiedine proves that MacDonald can do more than point fight, and against a solid fighter no less (Saffiedine was the final Strikeforce welterweight champion, and undefeated since 2011).

Ufc 178 was to be one of the biggest cards of the year.
Then it lost Jon Jones and it’s headlining fight.
So how did the card fare?
The answer, thankfully, is not bad. Ufc 178 turned out to be one of the better Ufc Pay-per-Views of 2014 thus far, thanks in large part to a strong supporting cast. With Cat Zingano vs. Amanda Nunes, Yoel Romero vs. Tim Kennedy, Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier, and Donald Cerrone vs. Eddie Alvarez, the card solid from top to bottom, and the “new” main event of Mighty Mouse Johnson vs. Chris Cariaso, barely in the top ten at flyweight, was almost an afterthought. Sort of a “we need a title fight” situation.
Better yet, all of the fights were solid, as was the televised preliminary fight between Dominick Cruz and Takeya Mizugaki (Patrick Cote vs. Wonderboy Thompson wasn’t bad either).

The Ufc’s biggest card to date in 2014 took a huge blow when the planned title fight rematch between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson fell apart after an injury to the Swedish challenger. It took an even bigger blow when the replacement fight, Jones vs. Daniel Cormier, fell apart as well after an injury to Jones. Cormier will now fight Jones in early 2015, Gustafsson is the odd many out, and Demitrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson vs. Chris Cariaso, the ninth ranked flyweight in the Ufc when the bout was announced, was moved from the co-main event slot of Ufc 177 to the headlining spot on Ufc 178.
That’s a pretty big gamble. The last card headlined by Johnson, Ufc 174, was the Ufc’s worst showing in years, barely breaking the 100,000 buy mark. That card had the return of Andrei Arlovski, and Ryan Bader. Ufc 178 has a slightly stronger undercard, with appearances...

The biggest rematch of the year is off of the Ufc schedule, as top light heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson is out of his planned Ufc 178 fight with champion Jon “Bones” Jones. Those anticipating the card need not worry about quality however, as unbeaten Olympian Daniel Cormier has stepped up to face the champion instead. Cormier was slated to undergo knee surgery to repair a torn Lcl and damaged Acl earlier this month, but instead opted to delay the procedure, in the event that an injury to Jones or Gustafsson occurred. For the upcoming Ufc on Fuel TV 7 card in Wembley Arena, I called upon our British Mma correspondent and co-host, English Thom Burton to help me breakdown the event. We cover all 12 fights with particular emphasis on the interim championship match between Renan Barao (29-1, 1) and Michael McDonald (15-1). Barao is easily one of the most talented fighters in the Ufc and a legitimate threat to Dominick Cruz’s stranglehold on the Bantamweight division when he returns from injury.
The other notable fights include a battle between Cub Swanson () and Dustin Poirier () at Featherweight, which promises to be a contender for Fight of the Night. Also expect big knockouts in the Lhw Jimi Manuwa (12-0) vs. Cyrille Diabate and the James Te-Huna (15-5) vs. Ryan Jimmo (17-1) matches. These fighters have an amazing 36 knockouts between them.

The Ultimate Fighter hasn’t exactly been that great for the last few seasons. From the coaches, to the fights and the awful decision to the move the show to Friday night there hasn’t been a lot of fan interest in the reality series. As much as the show is about the fighters living together and trying to win contracts with the Ufc it’s the coaches that generate most of the hype. The last couple of seasons (not counting the international versions) have failed to deliver on that front.
Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson as coaches last season was hard to get excited about for multiple reasons. There wasn’t much of an established rivalry between the two, neither man was really near contention for a title shot and the fight just wasn’t that interesting. The Ufc finished off 2012 in grand style as Cain Velasquez (11-1) retook his Heavyweight title from the very man that won it off of him a year ago, Junior Dos Santos (15-2). In episode 013 of the Getting Lucky Mma podcast, I am joined again by co-host Marcus Mitchell to review all the action and the low points of Ufc 155. In part 1, we review all of the prelims on the Facebook and FX undercards. On part 2, we move on to the main card.

They were followed by split decision king, Leonard Garcia (15-10-1) against upcoming prospect Max Holloway (7-1). Surprisingly,...

We’re back with the complete preview of Ufc on Fox: Henderson vs. Diaz. This time on the Getting Lucky mixed martial arts podcast, I am joined by English Thom Burton of lovely Southampton as my guest co-host. I figured it was time I brought a Brit into the fold. Vinc is making his official promotional debut on the The Ultimate Fighter: Carwin vs. Nelson finale on December 15th in Las Vegas, Nv against promotional newcomer Russian Rustam Khalibov (14-1). He’s a fearless stand-up specialist with power in his hands. All of his victories are by Ko or Tko.
We talk about his childhood in the poorest neighborhoods of California surrounded by violence and drugs, his years of street fights as a teenager, how he turned it around with mixed martial arts, his amateur fights (10-1) under the tutelage of “Big John” McCarthy, his professional career, his experiences on the Ultimate Fighter and his embarrassing admission about his Tuf coach – Dominick Cruz, and much more.

On Thursday night (December 16), an era ended and a whole new one began. A few months ago, the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced that World Extreme Cagefighting (an organization owned by Zuffa, the same company that runs Ufc) would be folded into the Ufc. Last night was the organization's final show, and they went out in memorable style, including big victories by Anthony Pettis and Dominick Cruz.
Wec was always unique group because it focused on lighter fighters (by the end, the only weight divisions were bantamweight, featherweight and lightweight), which often lead to fights that were much faster and more intense. Such was the case on Thursday night when Wec bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz defeated intense challenger Scott Jorgensen in a one-sided five round decision. Cruz's stand-up style is unorthodox, but his footwork and cardio are second-to-none. He danced around Jorgensen, peppering him with punches and taking him down at...
