Bethesda’s completely unexpected announcement earlier today has left folks reeling.
In case you missed it, the studio revealed via a short teaser video just hours ago that it’s partnering with the newly-established Lucasfilm Games in order to produce a project based on Indiana Jones. The affable treasure hunter, brought to life in the movie series of the same name by Harrison Ford, has become a cinematic icon for fans of action-adventure since the first effort, Raiders of the Lost Ark, landed in theaters back in 1981. Over the decades, three (soon to be four) sequels in the franchise have been released, with Bethesda’s own addition to the world also confirmed to feature a standalone story.
As for when it’ll be set (there’s plenty of unexplored territory), when it will release and for what platforms, those details are from confirmed, and given how early in the development process it clearly is,...

In a move straight out of the Snyder Cut playbook, fans of Robert Rodriguez’s “Alita: Battle Angel” raised enough money prior to the 92nd Academy Awards to fly a banner over the Oscars red carpet urging Disney to move forward with an “Alita” sequel. The banner included the social media hashtags #AlitaSequel and #AlitaArmy. The banner was purchased by The Alita Army group, which crowdfunded $1,810 in January to be able to carry out the Oscars stunt. The group hit their goal on January 29 and donated all extra proceeds to Open Bionics, a company that develops affordable prosthetic limbs for amputees. The company has direct ties to “Alita.”
“When thinking of a good cause to work for, we remembered the partnership that the ‘Alita: Battle Angel’ movie design team had made with Open Bionics,” the group wrote in a blog post. “Together, they designed an affordable ‘Alita: Battle Angel’ themed cover for prosthetic arms.

Conversation at the Oscars last night centered on three films: Sam Mendes’ 1917, Todd Phillips’ Joker and Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite. All three walked away with gongs, with Parasite the surprise big winner after picking up Best Picture, Best Director, Best International Picture and Best Original Screenplay. But another 2019 movie that earned no nominations also made some headlines: Alita: Battle Angel.
The kick-ass science fiction action film proved to be something of a sleeper hit last year and has been building a sizeable and passionate fanbase now that it’s available to view at home. But despite it ending on something of a cliffhanger, there are currently no plans for a sequel. Alita fans have been campaigning for this for some time now though and to keep the film in the industry’s mind, they hired a plane to fly over the Academy Awards trailing a banner that read: “#Alitasequel #Alitaarmy.

John Bradley stayed within the fantasy worlds by being in the most-watched fantasy television show HBO’s Game of Thrones to the most popular fantasy tabletop game Dungeons & Dragons.
From Nerdist’s CelebriD&D, they invited Bradley (played Samwell Tarly in Game of Thrones) for a fantasy epic adventure involving a Dungeon Master, dice and imagination.
He is joined by other fantasy heroes with Critical Role’s Liam O’Brien and Laura Bailey as well with Nerdist hosts Jessica Chobot and Dan Casey. The wonderful talented Dm is Critical Role’s Matt Mercer.
The adventure synopsis follows the adventurers leading themselves through danger and the stench of a cannibalistic orc camp. During their escape, with the orcs hot on their trail, the group must use more than their brawn to defeat the band of hungry predators. Will the heroes meet their doom when the orcs reveal their secret weapon? Or...

There's a new celebrity Dungeons & Dragons series CelebriD&D streaming on Nerdist and Geek & Sundry's Alpha. The premiere episode features Joe Manganiello (True Blood), and we've provided the first seven minutes of the series for you to watch below. The actor is actually really into and is apparently a big fan of the game! Manganiello’s character is named Arkhan the Cruel. He's is a 5th level Dragonborn Paladin with a Medusa head in a bag and a battleaxe named "Bonecleaver". Here are the details on the show:
Celebrities… They’re just like us. Many of them grew up playing role-playing games, and even remain avid fans and participants to this day. While excelling in their careers, they’ve put their love for imaginary sword-wielding and potion-making on hold… until now. CelebriD&D puts D&D-playing celebrities into a small, mini-campaign where they are paired with some of the best role-players in the world.

The first episode of CelebriD&D has premiered this week with a 45-minute episode featuring Joe Manganiello (True Blood, Magic Mike Xxl), who admitted playing D&D since his childhood days.
He joins Geek & Sundry’s Critical Role cast members Matthew Mercer, Marisha Ray, Taliesin Jaffe, along with Nerdist’s Dan Casey and Jessica Chobot in this exciting battle between good and evil.

With At&T set to take control of DC Comics and DC Entertainment thanks to its $85 billion buyout of Time Warner (which owns Warner Bros., which owns DC Comics), there’s no better time to go behind the scenes and see what some of that money is going toward with a tour of DC Entertainment’s crazy, toy-filled headquarters. Regular humans aren’t allowed to see such splendor, but Variety is apparently afforded privileges beyond those of normal humans, because it recently sent Nerdist’s Jessica Chobot into DC Entertainment’s offices for an installment of its “Hollywood HQ” video series.
Chobot checks out some of ridiculous toys being produced by DC Collectibles, including an enormous (and apparently very heavy) recreation of the Batwing from Batman: The Animated Series, a very badass Ra’s Al Ghul figure you can only see for a second or two, a replica of Morpheus...

And for all those Last Witch Hunter fans out there, he reprises the role of Kaulder in a game of D&D with Geek & Sundry on an epic quest filled with investigations, knocking, flaming swords, and various amounts of intrigue. The campaign is well-plotted and overseen by the excellent Dungeon Master, Matthew Mercer. Diesel is joined on his campaign to rid the land of an evil curse by Geek & Sundry cohorts Laura Bailey, Dan Casey, Jessica Chobot, and Travis Willingham. Movie adaptations of video games are hit or miss. Actually — let’s be honest, they are usually terrible. Yet, every now and again, someone will create a stunning fan film that makes you wonder what the hell is wrong with Hollywood? Metroid: The Sky Calls by Rainfall Films is definitely one of those shorts that puts Hollywood to shame. Director Sam Balcomb has turned Nintendo’s classic Metroid series into a stylish and slick 70s sci-fi flick favoring exploration and isolation over action spectacle. The atmosphere of the film is enthralling and the visuals, stunning. If this were to come out as a full length feature, I would gladly donate via Kickstarter.
The project comes from the same three-man team that created the Legend of Zelda movie trailer for IGN back on April Fools in 2008 and stars Jessica Chobot (Nerdist) and America Young (Halo 5). In the span of eleven minutes,...

"We hope you enjoy our take on the adventures of Samus Aran." This is awesome! There's a fantastic new fan film called Metroid: The Sky Calls going around the internet that everyone needs to see - watch in full below. It's an adaptation, or a fresh new take really, on the video game series Metroid, which is about a kick ass female bounty hunter named Samus Aran who wears special futuristic armor to fight with. Actress Jessica Chobot plays Samus in this short, reminding me a bit of the way Robert Downey Jr. plays Iron Man in the suit. There's a very impressive, old school, gritty deep space sci-fi vibe to this that makes it so fascinating. Plus, I love a really good sci-fi short. Whether or not you're a Metroid fan, this is worth a watch. Thanks to ComingSoon for the tip on this film. Original description for Metroid:...

A great-looking unofficial Metroid film, The Sky Falls, has appeared online. Take a look within...
Chances are you'll be seeing the short film below on a laptop or smart phone, but we'd argue its natural home is on a big screen with an equally humongous sound system. Unofficially based on Nintendo's classic Metroid, Rainfall Films' short takes a distinctly Kubrickian approach to the sci-fi property, from its 2001: A Space Odyssey-style title typography and opening sequence to its moody sonic landscape.
As Samus journeys deeper into a mysterious vessel, it then begins to take on a decidedly Alien-like sense of the unknown - Alien being another film influenced by Kubrick, of course.
Directed by Sam Balcomb and starring Jessica Chobot, Metroid: The Sky Falls is a remarkably polished and atmospheric movie. With Nintendo planning its own foray into feature filmmaking this could - who knows? - give...

Chances are you'll be seeing the short film below on a laptop or smart phone, but we'd argue its natural home is on a big screen with an equally humongous sound system. Rainfall Films, the company behind that memorable live-action 2013 "Wonder Woman" fan short film that looked like many wish the character could be portrayed as on screen, has done it again for another franchise.
Sam Balcomb has penned and directed "Metroid: The Sky Calls," a new eleven-minute fan film inspired by the classic Nintendo video game series "Metroid". Jessica Chobot and America Young star in the short which is less action-oriented than the game and has more of a sci-fi/dramatic focus.
It is also not a direct adaptation of a title in the long-running series, and comes a few months after Nintendo revealed it was reconsidering its stance on feature film adaptations which they have been opposed to for two decades.

Jessica Chobot is no stranger to sci-fi video games. She did lend her voice-acting skills to news reporter Diana Allers in Mass Effect 3, after all.
Her latest role is a bit different, though, because it has her actual face (and not just her digital face, like in Mass Effect 3) talking to the camera from the inside of a CGI Samus Aran suit.
Directed by Sam Balcomb, Metroid: The Sky Calls comes from Rainfall Films, a three-man production company founded by Balcomb. You can watch the full 12-minute movie above.
"The classic Nintendo franchise, Metroid, envisioned through the lens of 60s-70s science fiction cinema such as 2001, Alien, and Solaris: this was the concept for Rainfall's most recent production," says Rainfall Films on the YouTube description.
"Instead of using a modern approach, a style was developed more in tune with the themes that inspired the first Metroid game in 1986: isolation,...
