"Do you have any idea how draining it is to be around you all the time?!" Lionsgate has revealed an official trailer for The Honeymoon, a romantic comedy from filmmaker Dean Craig, who also made this year's The Estate. Arriving in theaters and on VOD in just a few weeks. Adam and his bride, Sarah are about to embark on the romantic honeymoon of a lifetime in Venice. But when the trip is gatecrashed by Adam's best friend, Ed, it inadvertently turns their perfect lovers' holiday into a complete disaster. They end up on the run after a strange cross border drug-dealing mission goes awry. Can they turn this honeymoon around? The comedy stars Maria Bakalova, Asim Chaudhry, Pico Alexander, Marco Valerio Montesano, Michele Enrico Montesano, and Lucas Bravo. As expected, this looks incredibly stupid. Over-the-top performances, a cheesy crime plot, not a single joke that will make anyone laugh.

The whimsy and imagination of a film like “The Sky Is Everywhere” is all the more impressive knowing that production took place during Covid and during California wildfire season, offering unique challenges to getting the story onscreen.
“It’s like two competing crises,” director Josephine Decker recalled in a recent interview with TheWrap. “Covid is like, only have meetings with other people outside. And then there’s California wildfires [with] ash falling in the air, and it’s like do not go outside under any circumstances, stay inside with air filters running.”
Based on the book by bestselling author Jandy Nelson, who also wrote the screenplay, the film follows teen Lennie Walker (Grace Kaufman) as she juggles feelings of grief, new love and loss in the wake of the unexpected death of her sister Bailey (Havana Rose Liu). Following the tragedy, Lennie starts experiencing romantic longing.

There’s breathless, relentless energy to the work of Josephine Decker, a trait usually accompanied by a sense of the unexpected, never quite knowing where her narrative may turn or how her characters could express their mercurial emotions. Her latest film The Sky Is Everywhere, adapted by Jandy Nelson from her own novel, features a strong sense of the former without ever offering the latter. What results is an aesthetically imaginative, narratively banal YA adaptation hitting too-familiar beats despite its relatively invigorating style.
Following the sudden death of her older sister to fatal heart arrhythmia––the same issue that claimed the life of their mother––17-year-old Lennie Walker (Grace Kaufman), a talented clarinetist, is adrift. Understandably still reeling from the loss, Lennie attempts to rebuild her life in a moment of transition when others her age are consumed by the promise of young love and limitless possibilities of the future...

Insistently rejecting the idea that a little bit of a good thing goes a long way, “The Sky Is Everywhere” finds director Josephine Decker indulging in affectation overload in an effort to imbue her adaptation of Jandy Nelson’s young-adult novel with uplifting magic. Whereas individual moments might work on their own, however, the “Madeline’s Madeline” auteur’s latest never provides its romantic tale with room to breathe, so intent is it about operating with maximum whimsicality. Teen audiences may be enticed to give it a try when it debuts in select theaters and on Apple TV Plus on Feb. 11, but what they’ll discover is
There isn’t a look-at-me device left unemployed by “The Sky Is Everywhere,” as Decker utilizes dreamy narration, swirling and rotating camerawork, gliding edits, paper mâché-style animation, CGI flights of fancy and an eclectic Caroline Shaw score full of orchestral music, woodwinds, horns and dainty French tunes.

Recently, this critic was reminded of the existence of author Lurlene McDaniel’s sizable bibliography of young adult books focused on kids and teens dealing with horrible illnesses, ailments, and eventual death. McDaniel is hardly the only YA author to focus on such topics — though she’s certainly the most prolific — but for a generation of readers, it was McDaniel who introduced such heavy plots as something the younger set could be trusted to understand. In 2010, Jandy Nelson’s debut novel “The Sky Is Everywhere” continued the tradition, following a heartbroken sister attempting to deal with the messy emotional aftermath of her beloved big sister’s death.
Grief is a fertile, if uncomfortable topic, and Nelson’s book approached it with the kind of open-hearted honesty it deserved, wrapped up in a careful package that made it accessible enough for the teenage audience it was meant to serve. A cinematic version?...

Based on Jandy Nelson’s young adult novel, “The Sky Is Everywhere” is a candy-colored story of a young girl grieving after the death of her charismatic older sister.
Director Josephine Decker (“Shirley”) leans into the fantastical elements of the material, and this results in a poorly structured narrative that always rushes past any moment that could give the film a deeper resonance.
We are told in narration by Lennie (Grace Kaufman from Sundance hit “Resurrection”) just how close she was to her sister Bailey, who was rehearsing to play Juliet at school when she suddenly died of a heart malfunction, just like their mother did. We only learn midway through the film that the girls’ mother got pregnant through artificial insemination; it’s also not until then that we learn what relation Jason Segel’s character Big has to the sisters. Such pointlessly withheld information is just one of the problems here.

"I'm worried about her." Factory 25 has revealed an official trailer for an indie film titled Superior, which initially premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival last year. This grainy, retro indie is about a woman on the run who returns to her hometown to hide out with her identical twin sister, Vivian, which alters the trajectory of both their lives. Described as an "Almodovarian psychodrama" with touches of Lynch and De Palma and 80s psychological thriller cinema. She realizes that she can pass as her sister and gets into even more trouble pretending to be her while trying to stay out of any trouble. Starring Alessandra Mesa and Anamari Mesa as sisters Marian and Vivian; along with Pico Alexander, Jake Hoffman, and Stanley Simons. Photo: 'Summer Days, Summer Nights' As the Temperature Cools Down, Romances Heat Up Picture this: the camera rolls through a quaint summer beach town located in Long Island. It’s 1982 and the summer is coming to an end for the town’s residents as well as the tourists that are vacationing there. This certainly doesn’t mean however that new romances aren’t just beginning while old ones fizzle out. Cue ‘Summer Days, Summer Nights’ the recently released romantic dramedy feature directed and written by Edward Burns. The film is equipped with a large ensemble cast with familiar (and talented) faces. Pico Alexander, who viewers might recognize from ‘Dickinson’ or ‘Home Again’ where he starred alongside Reese Witherspoon, is JJ: the recent high school graduate who works for his dad at the local beach club. The father in the film just so happens to be played by the writer/director himself,...

"Do you feel that...?" "I do." "So what do you think that is?" MGM Studios has revealed an official trailer for the indie ensemble drama Summer Days, Summer Nights, the latest film made by actor / filmmaker Edward Burns. This originally premiered way back in 2018 but is only now finally getting a release direct-to-vod this year. Best way to get over a broken heart? Fall in love again... It's the summer of 1982 on Long Island. JJ is working for his dad, when he falls for Debbie. Frankie reconnects with a long lost love. But as temperatures cool, so do their relationships, leaving the young men to accept summer is ending. Edward Burns is joined by a breakout cast including Anthony Ramos, Pico Alexander, Zoe Levin, Lindsey Morgan, Jon Rudnitsky, Amadeus Serafini, Caitlin Stasey, and Rita Volk. This looks like a charming throwback look at love in the 80s and summer romance.

Season 2 of Apple TV+’s “Dickinson” is a story about whether or not to seek fame, and that plotline could just as easily be applied to Anna Baryshnikov, who plays Emily Dickinson’s (Hailee Steinfeld) sister, Lavinia. “I really tried to go into the show telling myself I was an Emily,” Baryshnikov told IndieWire. And so, despite not playing a character as well known, the actress made Lavinia into someone just as unique.
Baryshnikov took Lavinia, who started Season 1 as a cat-loving young woman desperate for normalcy, and transitioned her into a fun and sexily awkward character. When the series debuted, the actress explained she was more focused on the source material and translating “Vinnie” from page to screen. We had a chance to catch up with them before the Dickinson Season 2 finale on Friday, Feb. 26.
Read on to find out what Finn had to say about his complicated relationships with Emily and Sue, Ship's engagement with Lavinia, and whether they'll be back for season 3.
What was the process of joining the show in its second season?
Pico: So I heard about the project. I went in to meet with Alena to speak about it a little bit. I had been recommended to her by Anna Baryshnikov [who plays Lavinia]. We had worked together on something before.
Anna had great things to say about Alena, and I had some other friends that had also worked on the show's first season. They had had a great time. They needed a job. So it worked out perfectly.

Within its mint and pink-punch walls live Vivian (Ani Mesa) and Michael (Jake Hoffman), a young couple who are dismayed when her estranged twin sister, Marian (Alessandra Mesa, Ani’s own twin), a touring rock musician, drops by unannounced during a thawing winter and asks to stay for a few days. On the run from a young man (Pico Alexander) who looks like he’s doing rockabilly-hitman cosplay with his slicked-back hair, too-shiny leather trench and ominous leather gloves, Marian dreams that he breaks ...

Cinema loves an identical twin, or preferably, two. More specifically, cinema — and daytime TV — loves to instill in the 99.7% of the population who are not identical twins, the idea that they are untrustworthy types, prone to switcheroo deceptions and uncanny telepathy. These are not myths that Erin Vassilopoulos cares to dispel with her brooding, arch feature debut; in fact she embraces many such unspoken clichés. But if “Superior” feints a familiar, xeroxed plot, it parries into a strikingly individual little pleasure, a headily heightened investigation into identity, sisterhood and the uselessness of men.
A lot comes down to the casting of actual twins Alessandra and Ani Mesa in the main roles, which not only brings an authentically sororal vibe to their interactions, but also allows Vassilopoulos to maintain her lo-fi, throwback, 16mm aesthetic without any doubling fakery going on. Because style here is very much the main dish and not the dressing,...

Back at the Sundance Film Festival in 2015, director Erin Vassilopoulos debuted the short film “Superior” starring twin sisters Alessandra Mesa and Ani Mesa. The project, a nominee for the Short Film Grand Jury Prize, focused on two sisters living in upstate New York who experience an awakening of self when a stranger comes to stay with them and their father for a brief spell.
The film also sparked a creative relationship among its director and stars. Six years later, the trio is back at Sundance with a continuation, of sorts, of the original short. Also called “Superior,” the new film takes place over one transformative Halloween weekend in the late 1980s and catches up with twin sisters Vivian (Ani Mesa) and Marion (Alessandra Mesa) after years of estrangement.
“A lot of the themes from the short still live on in the feature and are kind of the continuation of that exploration,...

(Warning: This post contains mild spoilers for Season 2 of “Dickinson.”)
One of the most fun aspects of “Dickinson” is that the Apple TV+ series mixes the life of 19th century poet Emily Dickinson with 21st century music. Last season featured needle drops from the likes of Lizzo and Billie Eilish, and in a super meta twist, star Hailee Steinfeld even contributed her own original song.
The second season of “Dickinson” premiered today, with the first three episodes immediately available for viewers (new episodes will continue to air weekly until February). And just like Season 1, there’s no shortage of expertly curated contemporary tunes to soundtrack Emily’s adventures.
For those wanting to update their Spotify playlists — or for anyone who just wants to pretend they’re at a fair or a seance — here are all the songs that appear in the first three episodes of “Dickinson” Season 2.

After over a year of waiting, Dickinson Season 2 returns Thursday, Jan. 8.
The first three episodes drop on that date, followed by weekly episodes through the end of February.
TV Fanatic had the chance to speak with some of the cast and creator Alena Smith about what lies in store for our favorite historical figures.
While Dickinson Season 1 Episode 10 culminated with Austin and Sue's marriage, the newlyweds have moved beyond the honeymoon stage this season, finding themselves at odds on some big issues and growing further apart.
"I think I can speak for both of us when I say that it was so much fun playing the dysfunctionality marriage that is, like falling apart," said Ella Hunt, who plays Sue.
"And the fact to grapple with all the 19th century is that in an unhappy and loveless marriage, divorce doesn't exist. It's like we have to find ways of making this work.

Midway through Season Two of Apple TV+’s Dickinson, Aunt Lavinia (Jessica Hecht) takes all the Dickinson women out for a 19th century spa day, promising that by the end of it, “You won’t be the same sick, disease-ridden, melancholy women you are right now.” The show’s title character, rebellious young poet Emily Dickinson (Hailee Steinfeld) considers this promise, then asks, “What if that’s my brand?”

Game of Thrones and Iron Fist alum Finn Jones and Pico Alexander are set to star opposite Hailee Steinfeld in the second season of Apple’s half-hour comedy series Dickinson, from wiip, Anonymous Content and Sugar23, Deadline has learned. Season 2 is currently in production in New York.
Created by Alena Smith Dickinson audaciously explores the constraints of society, gender and family from the perspective of rebellious young poet Emily Dickinson, played by Steinfeld. Set in the 19th century, the series is a coming-of-age story that finds Emily to be the unexpected hero for our millennial generation.
Jones will play Samuel Bowles, an energetic and magnetic newspaper editor. Alexander will portray Henry “Ship” Shipley, a dropout of Amherst College and a boarder with the Dickinsons.
In addition to Steinfeld, they join season 2 cast members Jane Krakowski, Toby Huss, Anna Baryshnikov, Ella Hunt, Adrian Blake Enscoe.
Michael Sugar (Spotlight) and Ashley Zalta (Maniac) executive produce for Sugar23 Productions, along with Alex Goldstone for Anonymous Content, Paul Lee for wiip, and Steinfeld. The series is written and executive produced by Smith, who also serves as showrunner.
Jones starred as Danny Rand/Iron Fist on Netflix’s Marvel drama series Iron Fist, which ran for two seasons. He also reprised the character in Netflix/Marvel’s limited series The Defenders and in Luke Cage. Before his Marvel superhero stint, Jones recurred as Loras Tyrell on HBO’s megahit Game of Thrones. He’s repped by CAA, Atlas Artists, Curtis Brown Group and Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson.
Alexander most recently recurred as Clevinger in Hulu’s Catch-22, and on the big screen appeared opposite Reese Witherspoon in Home Again. He’s repped by UTA.

"You elect a deranged con-man, just to see what happens...!" Freestyle Releasing has debuted another new official Us trailer for the indie satire Hot Air, which hasn't played at any film festivals or elsewhere yet. Hot Air is a timely drama (or satire?) relevant to today's world about a popular right-wing radio host named Lionel Macomb, as played by Steve Coogan. His life takes a sudden turn when his 16 year old niece Tess, played by Taylor Russell, comes crashing into his life. She confronts him and challenges him and makes him question his own position and his own legacy. The cast includes Neve Campbell, Pico Alexander, Skylar Astin, Judith Light, Lawrence Gilliard Jr., Griffin Newman, and Judah Friedlander. We posted the first UK trailer for this last month, and they've cut a new Us trailer that's definitely trying to rile everyone up. And it's very obviously calling out some bullshit.
