Jackie Chan, the 62-year-old action star, were seen filming dangerous fighting scenes 67 metres above Sydney Opera House with Australian co-star Tess Haubrich for new movie Bleeding Steel.
On top of Sydney Opera House, both actors were spotted without any harnesses on them. Undaunted by the building’s staggering height, Chan even went snap happy 67 metres above Sydney Harbour while spectators held their breath at this sight. His relaxed actions make it seem like an easy task but it is by no means any less dangerous.

With an engaging mix of goofy comedy, charming romance and a heartfelt, if somewhat trite, message of ecological sanity, Stephen Chow’s The Mermaid has achieved massive financial success. After less than two weeks in release, it has become the highest-grossing Chinese language film in history, soaring past last summer’s Monster Hunt. The story of a mermaid sent by her people to assassinate the real estate developer who has been trashing their home waters, but who instead falls in love with the guy and leads him to a new ecological awareness, the film lacks much of the anarchic edge or verbal dexterity of Chow’s early mo lei tau comedies, or the transcendent martial arts climaxes of his Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle. It is nonetheless packed to the gills with the kind of moment-to-moment weirdness that characterizes Hong Kong cinema in general and the films of Stephen Chow in particular,...

What the heck is this? The full official trailer for Stephen Chow's wacky new film has arrived online. After bringing us Kung Fu Hustle and CJ7, Stephen Chow's latest work is about a genetically engineered mermaid program run by a madman, called The Mermaid. While there are no English subtitles on this, the footage more than speaks for itself and it's not that appealing, I have to admit. It seems to be some kind of mix of Human Centipede (or Tusk) and Pirates of the Caribbean, but set in the real world. I don't really know. The cast includes Kris Wu, Chao Deng, Show Luo & Ke Bai. Give this trailer a look below if you're curious. Here's the first official trailer for Stephen Chow's The Mermaid, found on YouTube (via Twitch): Hin's real estate project involves reclamation of the sea. This threatens the livelihood of the...

Stephen Chow, the talented filmmaker who brought us the awesome screwball action films Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle, has made a new film called The Mermaid. It’s another adventure film packed full of all kinds of wonderful weirdness. If you’ve enjoyed the previous films Chow has made, then I’m sure you’ll like what this one has to offer. Chow has a lot of fun with his movies and they include a lot of physical and visual comedy with over-the-top special effects and action. The Mermaid looks a little more serious than some of his previous films, and I’m curious to see how it turns out. Chow has been working on this film project for the past three years, so he's definitely put a lot of work into it.
The story follows a biological professor who discovers a real mermaid and falls in love with her.

Cartoony isn’t an unusual way to describe Stephen Chow’s modern screwball masterpieces – Kung Fu Hustle often felt like a full-length live action Looney Tunes bit – but Chow’s latest, The Mermaid, looks like one of the first times when his fantastical aesthetic could get in the way of the storytelling. We previously wrote about a teaser in December, which was charming and kooky in all the right ways, but this new trailer, frankly, looks like a bit of a mess.
Maybe it’s just the Chinese trailer, but it’s a jarring meld of tone and aesthetic with a scolding environmental subtext, ominous piano keys, and a visual style that at worse, looks plastic and cheap; and at best, resembles a less elegant version of Tsui Hark’s supernatural action-adventures.

With his unique brand of thrills and comedy on display in films like Kung Fu Hustle, CJ7, and Shaolin Soccer, the latest film from director Stephen Chow is always one to anticipate. Those in China will be getting one early next year with The Mermaid, and today brings the first entertaining teaser.
Said to follow a biological professor who discovers a real mermaid and falls in love, the first preview doesn’t reveal any of that story, but instead sets up quite a comedic scenario before getting a brief glimpse at the titular star. Hopefully arriving at film festivals in the United States sometime next year, check out the teaser trailer below for the film starring Deng Chao, Show Luo, Kris Wu, Lin Yun and Zhang Yuqi.
The Mermaid hits theaters on February 8th, 2016 in China.

‘Journey to the West’ is a loose comedic adaptation of the namesake Chinese novel published in the 16th century (better known as simply ‘Monkey’, an abridged translation, in the west, as its more charismatic character is no other than the mischievous Monkey King). More precisely, this film revisits a specific part of the novel in which Buddhist-with-hair monk Xuan Zang (played by Zhang Wen) defeats a quaint group of demons in dire need of redemption… and some ass-kicking. Although this movie’s story is complete and self-contained, it’s also an obvious attempt to establish an epic saga that would show us the rest of the tale in future installments. Given the huge box-office success that ‘Journey to the West’ enjoyed, we can rejoice on the fact that sequels are more than probably coming our way. And that’s good news, because this is a good twist on a good story,...

Stephen Chow has more fun making movies than you do – and by “you,” I mean the average Hollywood director. Chow isn’t bothered by trends or popularity, weaving tales of ancient fantasies and magical worlds filled with powerful warriors, brooding demons, and colorful locales that breathe wonderful creativity. Journey To The West: Conquering The Demons is the latest film to exemplify our writer/director’s vivacious talents, as we’re hooked from the very first visual of a bright, lively harbor town full of charismatic townsfolk. We’ve become so used to dark, gloomy films like 300, Man of Steel, and every other overly morose action adaptation – enough of the darkness. Follow Stephen Chow on a Buddhist martial-arts adventure into the light, focusing on exploratory, original storytelling much like Kung Fu Hustle or Shaolin Soccer. Enlightenment is simply a film experience away…
