Based on the suspenseful novel by Zakiya Dalila Harris, Hulu and Onyx Collective’s “The Other Black Girl” tackles the issue of systemic racism in the workplace through a thrilling lens. Produced by Rashida Jones, the show follows Nella Rogers (Sinclair Daniel) as she battles microaggressions and the isolation of being the only Black girl at Wagner Books. That is until the publishing house hires Hazel May McCall (Ashleigh Murray). At first, Nella is overjoyed, but she starts to realize that though they share skin color and culture, the two girls could not be more different.
Author Harris executive produced the show, written by Gus Hickey and Jordan Reddout. Some special guest stars appear here and there throughout the sinister series. Read on to learn who plays whom in Hulu’s “The Other Black Girl”:

TNT is wielding the axe again: After three seasons, TNT has canceled Perception. The network is putting an end to the crime drama, which starred Eric McCormack as Dr. Daniel Pierce, a schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist who assists the FBI on some of their most complex cases. Perception will return for its final five episodes on Feb. 17. TNT has shed a couple high-profile dramas in the past month, axing its Dallas reboot and canceling Franklin & Bash. Former Fox programming chief Kevin Reilly was recently announced as the network's new president and CEO, though he hasn't officially started yet.

"Warriors" completed the two-part summer finale of Perception, wrapping up the case surrounding Kate as a potential murderer and throwing a bunch of twists and cover-ups into the mix to cap it all off.
In a lot of ways, "Wounded" and its follow up reminded me of the Perception Season 1 finale combo of "Shadow" and "Light." Both focused on core characters trying to expose a truth that, at the same time, explored a deeper aspect of each.
Where Daniel Pierce was forced to deal with his schizophrenia in the freshman season finale, Kate Moretti learned here that she was so focused on her job (and ultimately not in fact a cold blooded killer.)
But the outcome wasn't all I hoped it to be, as it was with Daniel really embracing his demons.
Daniel and Donnie's concern that it looked like Kate was a crazy person who stalked Rickford seemed spot on.

They may have helped crack cases involving aliens and simple human error, but for Kate Moretti and Donnie Ryan, there's far more to their relationship than working together to put bad guys away.
Did I mention they used to be married?
I spoke with Rachael Leigh Cook and Scott Wolf over the phone recently about Kate and Donnie's relationship on Perception, the non-work side for their characters and Kate's more personal involvement with tonight's episode, "Wounded." Read on for excerpts from our Q&A …
What have you guys enjoyed about exploring Donnie and Kate’s relationship this season?
Rachael Leigh Cook: I love that we can make a procedural show every week, and that because of the introduction of this aspect of their characters’ personal history that we get to dive into these characters as people and not just who they are on the job. That’s been such a gift this past season.

With its 2nd season finale about to air, the TNT drama Perception is finishing off a strong season of stories that tugged at our hearts and teased our brains as we saw how disorders of the mind can create unexpected results. Guilt, love, paranoia all factor into how we perceive the world we live in; and Perception showed us how that can be amplified and used both in positive and negative ways.
The 2-part second season finale of Perception introduces what seems to be a simple story of a young woman experiencing Ptsd from her time in the military, which leads her to commit increasingly destructive crimes. But the root of her problems originates from an illness that only Dr. Daniel Pierce recognizes. Yet as they discover, just diagnosing a person does not truly explain how they got the condition.

Voluntarily checking oneself into a mental hospital to uncover a suspicious death seems like a bad idea, especially if one just happens to have paranoid schizophrenia and Sigmund Freud as an imaginary sidekick. But it certainly makes for an entertaining and revealing episode of Perception.
It's interesting that the show would send Daniel Pierce on his own to work a case, and I understand that it would be a lot more difficult for Kate Moretti to fit into the hospital, but it definitely showed that Eric McCormick can carry his scenes as the lead character. As if that wasn't obvious before.
McCormick has become so adept at playing Daniel that every finger tap, sideways glance or inquisitive gaze feels natural for the character. And while Daniel was able to do a bit of method acting himself, it came close enough to the line to be believable when he was ranting...

A surgical treatment implanted that allows electrical pulses to assist in stopping abnormal brain activity, thus eliminating tremors like in a person with Parkinson's disease, seems oddly science fiction.
Except it's not.
While "Defective" wasn't a mind-blowing Perception episode, the concept of deep brain stimulation is both real and intriguing. It's always a pleasant surprise to find out that whatever Daniel Pierce happens to be talking about is landed in reality, even if it might seem far fetched.
In fact, the violinist with tremors seems to be straight out of the real world, mirroring that of someone like violinist Roger Frisch (Google him) who, while being operated on by surgeons sending certain pulses to his brain, allowed him to play his string instrument with their help. Sort of exactly like during the end of the episode.

TNT‘s Perception has returned for season two, and the series continues from the first season finale in brilliant fashion. The show threw out some big events, opening the door for a variety of next steps, and many that might leap to mind would not seem to continue things in a way that embraces the heart of what we followed in the series up to that point. Such is the talk of the initiated and nervous anyway.
The show stars Eric McCormack as Dr. Daniel Pierce, a genius neuroscience professor who works with the FBI, via agent Kate Moretti (Rachel Leigh Cook) to help solve the most outlandish cases. The spin here is that Dr. Pierce is a paranoid schizophrenic prone to delusions and hallucinations when he’s off his meds, and he’s also prone to not taking his meds… or imagining that he took them.

You could always power ballad your way through the 1984 Foreigner song "I Want To Know What Love Is," but Daniel Pierce might give you a more scientific reason behind the question of what makes people find that deep personal attraction, connection or feeling.
"Alienation" was a far more interesting and focused episode of Perception than the premiere, "Ch-Ch-Changes." It tackled the universal concept of love with a unique neurological disorder, while allowing for some good character moments that pertained to the theme of the hour was both charming and entertaining.
And there were Star Wars references.
Daniel is such a fascinating character, intelligent beyond those that surround him, and yet he struggles with his flaws, his desires and everyday life... just like anybody else.
Granted, watching him try and juggle Natalie and Caroline was funny and a little sad as well. It's easy to want everything to work out for him,...

When "Perception" finished its first season on TNT, we left off with our intrepid paranoid schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist Dr. Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack) back on his medication and putting his hallucinations at bay. But as Tuesday's (June 25) season premiere made clear, that was short-lived.
Daniel's already back off his meds, dating his therapist Caroline (Kelly Rowan), while still "dating" his hallucination of her, Natalie (also Rowan). Talk about a weird threesome. While there certainly wouldn't be a show without Daniel's hallucinations helping him solve crimes alongside Kate (Rachael Leigh Cook), it does seem like a bit of a retread for the show to so quickly undo what it did in the finale.
Will Daniel ultimately choose between Caroline and Natalie? According to McCormack, who recently spoke with reporters during a set visit, "The second episode will answer all of that." So, an answer is only a week away, "Perception" fans.

Perception Season 1 began with the daunting task of finding a way to associate schizophrenic and overly intuitive Dr. Daniel Pierce as more than just another super smart sleuth with that special "quirk."
It took a bit, but by the end, Eric McCormick had solidified himself and proven that his character of Pierce was a different card from the pack and one worth watching.
So I was a bit disappointed by "Ch-Ch-Changes" falling back into what felt like such a generalized case of the week, and one that seemed rather unbelievable.
I loved delving into Pierce's psyche and watching him attempt to deal with his breakdown in the last season finale, "Light." It not only got to the core of the character, but pushed him to step up and get himself better.
Seeing Pierce having been nine months on medication and in a blossoming relationship with his doctor Caroline (not Natalie,...

When we last left Dr. Daniel Pierce at the end of Season 1 of "Perception," he'd gone back on his medication and begun to form a relationship with Caroline, the woman who imaginary Natalie had been based on. As we pick back with Daniel in the start of Season 2 (premiering Tuesday, June 25), the man who portrays him tells us that it's going to be a struggle for the good doctor to stay on his meds.

Last summer introduced viewers to the wondrous world of Dr. Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a neuropsychiatrist working as a professor at Chicago Lake Michigan College and in his spare time as an expert consultant for the FBI. Paired with his former student, Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), they delve into the mysteries of the mind and the criminals that may or may not be afflicted by neuropsychiatric disorders. However, as was revealed fairly quickly, Dr. Pierce struggles himself each day with distinguishing what is real and not real. Diagnosed as a highly-functioning schizophrenic, Dr. Pierce uses his unusual medical condition to perceive realities and truths that a normal functioning brain may not; and so perceptionally-enhanced, Dr. Pierce and Agent Morreti make a phenomenal crime-solving team.

Fans know Beth Riesgraf as Parker on TNT’s Leverage. Now Perception plans to leverage the actors to gain some more fans of their own.
If you thought Homeland‘s Carrie Mathison, acted by Claire Danes was crazy, then wait until you get a load of Eric McCormack in the role of Dr. Daniel Pierce, a schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist who helps the FBI with some of their most complex cases. He’s the star of Perception, a little crime drama that TNT launches last summer, which is produced by ABC Studios.
Season 1 pulled in around 4 million viewers each week and the best news is that season 2 will premier on June 25th. with returning cast members, Rachael Leigh Cook, Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith and recurring actor LeVar Burton, TV Line has learned that Riesgraf will pop in as Daisy Brannen, “a fiercely loyal woman who is startled when Pierce and Moretti catch...

There's a trend on TV this summer, and it's not surrounding disturbing reality shows: Several '90s TV stars are stepping into established summer series to liven things up a bit, and we could not be more excited.
John Stamos is no stranger to TV -- he most recently guest-starred on NBC's now-defunct "The New Normal" and Fox's "Glee" after starring on "ER" for several seasons -- but he'll always be Uncle Jesse to us. Now, the "Full House" alum has joined the cast of USA's "Necessary Roughness" (Season 3 premieres Wed., June 12 at 10 p.m. Et) as Dr. Dani's (Callie Thorne) new boss, the bluetooth earpiece-wearing Connor McClane. McClane runs a huge sports and entertainment management company, and his goal is to keep Dani in her place after she was fired by the New York Hawks.

Eric McCormack recently chatted with Uinterview.com about his new role on TNT's "Perception".
During the interview, the actor compared his character on "Perception," Dr. Daniel Pierce, a paranoid schizophrenic neuroscientist, to his role as gay New York attorney Will Truman on "Will & Grace."
With marriage equality being a hot topic, McCormack voiced his opinion on whether or not he thought Truman would be married by now.
“He was virtually married in the series finale. I virtually got married to Taye Diggs on the show and I virtually married Bobby Cannavale on the show,” McCormack told Uinterview.
“Will was a reflection of our co-creator Max Mutchnick, who was a guy who wanted to find the right guy, and that’s what Max has done and that’s definitely what Will would be doing now [that gay marriage is legal in New York].”
Last year, Megan Mullally, McCormack's co-star, revealed that McCormack wasn't too enthused about tackling a gay role.

It's Thursday, and you know what that means... it's time for a new episode of Secret Eaters! Also, we've got another Q&A for you.
This week we've gathered such glorious goss on the likes of Fresh Meat and Hannibal that really, you should be worshiping us like Gods. We're talking being fanned with palm leaves and a massage using the finest essential oils. We'll settle for a 'thnx' in the comments though...
When does Fresh Meat series 3 begin filming?
E4's uni-com (that's 'university comedy' for the uninitiated) has to be *the* most popular show with Tube Talk Q&A readers - you lot want fresh Fresh Meat scoop every seven days!
Luckily, this week, we can oblige - read-throughs for series three have begun, with filming set to commence in the near future for an autumn broadcast. Check out Fresh Meat co-creator Sam Bain's tweet below for proof.

TNT drama Perception has tapped Scott Wolf (Party of Five) for a major recurring role on the upcoming second season. Perception stars Eric McCormack as Dr. Daniel Pierce, an eccentric neuroscientist and university professor recruited by his former student – FBI agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook) – to help the federal government solve complex criminal cases. Wolf will play Donnie, a charismatic, fast-rising Assistant U.S. Attorney recently transferred back to Chicago. While he claims his transfer was completely random, he has a hidden agenda involving Kate (Cook), his soon-to-be ex-wife. Wolf’s series credits also include V and Everwood.

American TV really can’t get enough of Brilliant Eccentrics. The experts who sort-of freelance for the police and routinely outwit criminals by combining misleading interpretations of exotic-sounding psychological conditions and/or A Unique Understanding Of The Criminal Mind with unconventional social skills. That last one is the bringer of light entertainment in a way that borders on the distasteful in a TV show, depending on the talent in the writers’ room.
Perception is the latest show to offer an eccentric character who utilises a ‘unique outlook’ to solve crimes. Kind of picking up where Ron Howard’s film A Beautiful Mind left off, and taking broad wardrobe inspiration from the BBC’s Sherlock, Perception gives us Daniel Pierce, a neuroscientist with paranoid schizophrenia who helps out the FBI when they’re facing a case they can’t handle, which is roughly once a week.

On Perception, Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack) is an eccentric neuroscience professor who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia. As he helps solve complex cases for the FBI, Daniel sometimes sees things that aren't there. More importantly, TNT's hoping enough viewers will "be there" to give the series strong enough ratings to support a second season renewal.
Others in the TV show's cast include Rachael Leigh Cook, Arjay Smith, Kelly Rowan, and LeVar Burton.
The first season of Perception typically airs Monday nights and there are 10 episodes.
These figures will be updated as the weeks progress so be sure to bookmark and return to this page:
Final season averages: 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.24 million total viewers.
Episode 01-10: Monday, 09/17/12

With Perception's 10 episodes ending via a great season one finale, it's safe to say that Eric McCormack has found a fantastic character to sink his teeth into.
McCormack has always had a likable personality and charm, but it's been tough for him to completely break away from his character on Will & Grace. Not to say that Will Truman wasn't great, but there's always something about being on a series for so long that sometimes people and viewers can't separate the actor and the character.
Except the star found a way to bring to life Daniel Pierce in a way that wasn't Will Truman or even Eric McCormack playing the doctor. This was Daniel Pierce as Daniel Pierce, a compelling character with quirks, flaws, humor and a personality that made you want to watch him solve crimes.
And "Light," while it did send Pierce into a darker hole even after...

Part one of the two-part Perception finale threw the show for a loop, revealing Pierce's breakdown before a surprising last minute twist. Will the doctor get the medical help he needs? Is there really more to the conspiracy?
To get fans excited for the second part, "Light," I spoke with Eric McCormack over the phone about the season-ender and what it's like playing a character quite unlike Will & Grace's Will Truman?
How does he handle all of the rapid fire dialogue, for example?
"Very carefully," the actor said. "With Will & Grace it was about the comedy. In this case, it's about making the science clear but also making it believable that this is a man that is the smartest guy in the room. That's what's the most fun. It's interesting to think that when Perception premiered, one of the biggest critiques was that it was centered on a super intuitive character that solved crime, much like a variety of other shows. In an attempt to set it apart, though, Dr. Daniel Pierce was a paranoid schizophrenia.
Certainly, the episodes that aired utilized his mental disorder to help him discover clues and figure it all out. We were given overly informative hallucinations like Joan of Arc and thought provoking ones like his younger self - but for the most part, those visions were mostly positive. They were, in a way, Pierce's ace up his sleeve, to finally crack the case.
At the same time, viewers were left trying to guess or be surprised by characters that might or might not be hallucinations. Even if there were certain lapses in Pierce's stability, there was a certain "fun" element to having...

"Nemesis" held such promise to be a provocative Perception episode that really delved into the psyche of Daniel Pierce while revealing to Kate Moretti news of his un-medicated schizophrenia.
That sounds like juicy drama, right?
But while Perception promos (they really can be misleading, can't they?) seemed to point towards Moretti confronting Pierce about his struggles, the real focus of the episode centered around a murdered judge.
Which could have proven interesting enough given that the prime suspect had schizophrenia. Granted, it was far worse than we've seen Pierce experience, what with complete delusions and an utter break with reality, but isn't that the point? To show what Pierce could become?
It was nice seeing Jonathan Tucker back on TV and he really captured that loss of sanity wrapped inside the mind of a protector. I may still wish he was on The Black Donellys and even enjoyed his stint on Parenthood,...

If you thought Daniel Pierce seeing hallucinations of World War I code breakers was crazy, "Messenger" upped the ante with visions of Joan of Arc.
Yes, Joan of Arc, with her bowl haircut and drab tunic graced the television screen, but no Milla Jovovich was anywhere to be found.
Pierce's break with reality noticeably paralleled that of the episode's case focus on a young man named Kyle who could talk to God. Surprisingly, Pierce immediately jumped towards Temporal Lobe Epilepsy as the problem (the condition that has been said to have affected Joan of Arc) rather than spend the episode trying to figure it all out.
Which is an interesting direction to take because the prime focus lay in figuring out the identity of the killer rather than a neurological mystery. Unfortunately, that meant for a bland hunt for the murderer who could have only been one of the other side characters for the episode.

Riddle me this: Was the real crime of this episode underusing a phenomenal actor like Neal McDonough?
Maybe excitedly seeing McDonough brought back memories of his superb character on Justified - a criminal with pizzaz, kick and presence - but playing Dafoe on Perception, the actor was on a very tame leash. In reality, Dafoe was there, but he wasn't anywhere near memorable.
And maybe it would have been too predictable to have McDonough play a crazy killer instead of just a businessman focused on money, but his role on the episode ultimately wasn't one that was meant to draw away from Eric McCormack's Daniel Pierce. Of course, McCormack still nailed his role as the schizophrenic doctor with a passion for puzzles.
I digress on a small complaint, because for the most part, "Cipher" was a decent episode.

It's not often in our lives that our younger selves get to become magically older, like Tom Hanks did in Big or even receive the chance to revert from middle-age back to a teenager. And while Matthew Perry doesn't turn into Zac Efron here, Perception takes an interesting, albeit far-fetched, spin on the concept of time and being 17 again in this week's episode, "86'd."
Once again, Agent Kate Moretti's been stumped by her current FBI case and she eagerly seeks Dr. Daniel Pierce's astute and brilliant mind to solve the cold case that's been re-opened. I'm surprised he's not getting paid for his consults, but I'm sure that solving complex crimes is more than enough of a payoff for him.
Luckily the clues of the 1986 "Date Night" killer are in open sight, ranging from a leftover journal to a print that matches the old murders to the one victim that escaped with her life.
