For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. Back in 1987, Capcom introduced the world to "Street Fighter," permanently changing the landscape of fighting games and birthing an extremely popular (and profitable) multi-media franchise. In the last 35 years, "Street Fighter" has spawned almost 150 different games, spin-offs, TV shows, movies, and appearances in other games. That number is about to get even bigger because, as The Hollywood Reporter notes, Legendary Pictures — the folks who also put out "Godzilla vs. Kong," "Detective Pikachu," and "Dune" — have acquired the film and TV rights to "Street Fighter."
This is phenomenal news for fans of the classic fighting game, because Hollywood has a pretty disappointing track record with adapting "Street Fighter" for the big screen. Back in 1994, Universal released "Street Fighter: The Movie" featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile, Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li,...

The top 10 run-down of our favourite 2014 films begins with Gareth Evans' violent action gangster sequel, The Raid 2...
Over the past few weeks, Den of Geek writers have been voting for their favourite films of the year. In 10th place is operatic gangster action banquet, The Raid 2. Here's why...
10. The Raid 2
When Gareth Evans' The Raid: Redemption burst on to cinema screens in 2011, action movie fans rejoiced. Here was a film that relied on pure, scintillating fight choreography and inventive direction to produce one of the finest action films in years. A sequel surely beckoned, and in 2014, The Raid 2 arrived; bigger, badder and with a considerable amount of attitude.
The tower block of The Raid was merely a microcosm for the wider fight against corruption and organised crime in Jakarta and, picking up from where the first film left off, Rama (Iko Uwais) finds himself going undercover.

Director/Writer Gareth Evans’ The Raid 2 arrives in U.S. theaters today (March 28th) and Sony Pictures Classics’ will release the film in St. Louis on Friday, April 11.
After having an early look at Evans’ film, my fellow Movie Geeks are raving about it.
Tom Stockman, calls the R-rated movie, “a hyper-violent, adrenaline-fueled epic!” Jim Batts says, “Raid 2 is a non-stop thrill ride that will have your heart pumping almost from the first fade-in to the final fade-out! It’s an action film lover’s fever dream!” Look for Wamg’s review in the coming weeks.
Here’s what goes down in The Raid 2 -
He thought it was over. After fighting his way out of a building filled with gangsters and madmen – a fight that left the bodies of police and gangsters alike piled in the halls – rookie Jakarta cop Rama thought it was done and he could resume a normal life.

Considering The Raid was one of the best actioners I had seen in decades, I had pretty high expectations going into The Raid 2, but holy hell… Evans and company didn’t disappoint at all. In fact, it may come off hyperbolic, but I’d confidently say that The Raid 2 is to the action genre what The Godfather II became to the mob drama subgenre- pure cinematic perfection and an epic follow-up that manages to surpass its already impressive predecessor in both scope and storytelling.
The Raid 2 picks up right where everything left off in the first film. Rama (Iko Uwais), dealing with the aftermath of his actions, is now forced to go undercover by the police chief who has hopes that Rama and his elite ass-kicking skills can help him finally put an end to the political corruption that continues to ravage the city of Jakarta. And that’s just...

The Raid 2 is a film fans have been clamoring for since the original in 2011 and it’s easy to see that this film will satisfy those ardent supporters. While the film does contain many exciting elements and some of the most daring fights you’ll ever seen, the film left me pretty detached by the nature of its thin and ever shifting plot.
The movie picks up where the last one left off with Officer Rama meeting with the anti-corruption task force. He is pressured into joining because he is worried for the safety of his wife and son. It’s his safety that he should be really concerned about as he is sent to prison to befriend a mob boss’ son named Uco and has to quite literally fight for his life while in the slammer. After saving Uco from a particularly brutal battle,...

We've got the full international trailer for The Raid 2: Berandal to show you today! Holy shit this thing looks like it's going to be even more badass than the first movie! Director Gareth Evans sure knows how to make an insane action film! There's just no way he would be able to pull off this kind of stunt work in the U.S. so it will be interesting to see what he does if he ever starts making American action movies. In the meantime, enjoy the awesomeness of the new trailer. It starts out a little slowly, setting the story up, but then goes right into the action of the film.
The Raid 2 picks up right where the first film left off and follows Rama (Iko Uwais) as he goes undercover and infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate in order to protect his family and uncover...

The Raid: Redemption was such a pleasantly surprising film, featuring some of the most intense fight sequences in recent memory, with a surprsingly engaging story. It was a simple film, but the sequel looks set to take everything (including the action) up to an entirely new level. A brand new trailer for the film has released and has enough action to make any fan of the genre jittery with excitement. Come inside to check it out!
The Raid 2: Berandal is set to debut at this year's Sundance, with a recently announced release date for March 28th here in the states. I for one, can't wait to check it out and while it may not be a large scale blockbuster, it still has a place on my hotly anticipated list. One look at this trailer and you can see why:

When Gareth Evans’ brutal action thriller The Raid: Redemption became a word-of-mouth phenomenon back in 2011, everyone knew that a sequel was all but inevitable. As work on the follow-up has progressed from the idea stage to filming to post-production, we’ve seen a cool banner, a bloody teaser and not much else. Now, however, the sequel, formerly called The Raid 2: Berandal but apparently now just The Raid 2, has an unexpectedly soon stateside release date.
The sequel will make its debut at the Sundance Film Festival next month then expand to theaters in the United States on March 28th. That’s a remarkably quick turn-around for the film, as well as a measure of Sony Picture Classics’ faith in the project.

Though it may not be as highly-anticipated as some of 2014′s other big releases, like Dawn of the Planet of the Apes or Interstellar, there are still many people who are incredibly excited for Gareth Evans’ The Raid 2, which was formerly titled The Raid 2: Berandal. Thankfully, Sony has now dropped the subtitle and after having its world premiere at Sundance in January, the film will touch down in theatres on March 28th, 2014.

And it's a wrap on principal photography for the anxiously awaited The Raid 2: Berandal! Director Gareth Evans shared the news via Twitter and also mentioned what the final shot entailed.
Late last night Evans tweeted the following:
"After almost 7 months, to everyone who contributed in the making of this film… it’s a fucking wrap. #TheRaid2Berandal"
"Final shot of the day, as expected, was a kick from @iko_uwais - sadly it was to the stomach and not to the face. Good kick though :)"
When a follower responded with a request for him not to "hold back on the killing this time," Evans replied:
"I learnt my lesson last time, far too much restraint."
This one simply can't get here soon enough!

One of the things that made The Raid so ridiculously memorable was the film's violence. The fight scenes were as brutal as they come, and there was enough additional gore to make even the most jaded viewer squirm.
The good news is that director Gareth Evans is continuing that blood-soaked tradition with the sequel, The Raid 2: Berandal. Check out the first gruesome still he shared online via his Twitter account below.

Starting production this week in The Raid 2: Berandal, the sequel to the Indonesian action hit The Raid: Redemption, which is one hell of a film. One of the biggest success stories over the past year and half has been Gareth Evans’ The Raid, released as The Raid: Redemption in the Us. So naturally, there’s a lot of anticipation surrounding the sequel, The Raid 2 (released as The Raid 2: Berendal in Indonesia).
The original film debuted at Tiff back in September 2011, won the Midnight Madness Award, and went on to theatres in the spring of 2012. And since then, it’s gained pretty much overnight cult status as one of the best action/martial arts films in recent memory.
Production has officially begun, with Gareth Evans once more directing from his own script, and leading man Iko Uwais returning to take the lead.
