Indonesian actor Nicholas Saputra will star in the second edition of omnibus co-production project, Asian Three-Fold Mirror, spearheaded by Tokyo International Film Festival (Tiff) and Japan Foundation Asia Center.
Saputra will star in all three of the omnibus episodes, which are currently in production with directors including Japan’s Daichi Matsunaga, Indonesia’s Edwin and China’s Degena Yun. Produced by Japan’s Satoru Iseki (A Battle Of Wits), the completed film will receive its world premiere at this year’s Tokyo International Film Festival (October 25-November 3).

The Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (Mar 13-15), which has its 15th edition this year, has revealed its lineup of 25 projects.
Unprecedentedly, nearly half of the projects are from female directors, about a third are by first-time directors and two rarely seen genres at Haf are included - science fiction and gothic thriller.

Women directors will be at the forefront at the 15th Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (Haf) in 2017. Twenty-five projects have been selected to find funding at the financing platform this year, to be held March 13-15, with nearly half of the projects fronted by female directors.
They include Japanese filmmaker Miyake Kyoko, director Rubaiyat Hossain from Bangladesh, Chen Yi-jung from Taiwan, Honey B Singh from Singapore, Degena Yun from China, and Ying Weiwei, also from China.

The 28th edition of the Tokyo International Film Festival took place from the 22th until the 31th of October in the great city of Tokyo. This ten day event is the only Japanese film festival accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (Fiapf). It started in 1985 and since then it became one of the most important festival in the world. The festival offers the audience a great chance to see the very best film from around the world and bring them the best national productions.

Roberto Berliner’s Nise - The Heart of Madness, based on the true story of a Brazilian psychiatrist, took the top prize at the 28th Tokyo International Film Festival on Saturday.
The Brazilian film’s Gloria Pires also won the Best Actress award for her performance in the title role as Nise da Silveira, a doctor assigned to a Rio de Janeiro mental hospital in the 1940s.
“We all felt that it was a very believable world full of sadness, of humour and of triumph,” competition jury president Bryan Singer said in presenting the Tokyo Grand Prix, which comes with a cash prize of $50,000.
Berliner described the film as a “cruel job” in that it took 13 years out of his life to make but he never lost his determination to bring Nise da Silveira’s story to the screen...

Bober, one of the Europe’s most respected producers and distributors, is teaming up with award-winning Chinese director Lou Ye to produce Riddle from Zhou Hao, whose debut The Night screened at Berlinale 2014.
Chang, the longtime producing partner of John Woo, is co-producing coming-of-age drama That Summer, to be directed by new mainland Chinese talent Zhou Quan. Meanwhile, Kawase is serving as producer on a project to be directed by Cuba’s Carlos Machado Quintela, which is being made in collaboration with the Nara International Film Festival.
