Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter helped shine a light on the ongoing conversation surrounding country music in relation to Black musicians. Now, a new CNN FlashDoc called Call Me Country: Beyoncé and Nashville’s Renaissance, out April 26 on Max, will dive even deeper into the issues and hurdles Black artists have long faced in the genre.
The Call Me Country trailer, which dropped on Tuesday, teases analysis and conversations surrounding Queen Bey’s history-making LP and how it ignited a conversation surrounding the treatment of Black artists in a white-dominated music genre and industry.

Dynamic mother-daughter and best friend duo Ginny (Antonia Gentry) and Georgia Miller (Brianne Howey) return in “Ginny & Georgia” Season 2, which gets even more chaotic than the already very complex first season of the Netflix show. Another of Georgia’s past loves enters the mix, she commits some more questionable actions and many other twists and turns develop within the 10 hour-long episodes.
Ginny and her friends are no strangers to the TikTok scene, so some song choices reflect Gen Z’s poppy preferences. The show is also not afraid to explore both the high, happy feelings of life as well as the deeper, darker, lower ones, and it does so sonically with some beautiful choices. Felix Mallard chose a song for an important scene of his, and actress Brianne Howey easily chose a song to embody her character Georgia.

Simon Cowell used to be the draw of "The X Factor," but someone has usurped his position as the main reason to watch. Not Simon's nemesis, L.A. Reid; not the big name, Britney Spears; and definitely not Khloe Kardashian and her nipples. Rather, the real star of the Fox reality hit is Demi Lovato.
The singer (and, like Britney, former Disney minion) is probably the least known of the four, but Demi showed her strengths during the audition weeks, mentoring her team and, now, the live shows. Britney has been the one getting all the headlines (for mostly fictional tales, I like to hope) and her comments to all the singers haven't been the most helpful (unless you count being called "amazing" constructive criticism), but Demi has been the true support. And she's fun to watch. It could've been easy for Lovato to land in the shadows of Spears, Reid and Cowell,...

Did you hear that? That was the sound of our heart breaking as early frontrunner David Correy got the boot during X Factor's "Save Me" sing-offs. Yes, a terrible injustice has been done, and we're pretty sure that L.A. Reid has completely lost his mind. At the very least, he just dumped the one chance his Over 25s team had of winning the competition. Really, how far does he think Jason Brock is going to get? It's mind-boggling.

We've got to hand it to you, X Factor, you've certainly been keeping us on our toes this season. For two weeks, Fox advertised that the live shows would start November 1st. Then, in a head-scratching act of self-sabotage, the network decided at the last minute to launch them a day early. You know, on Halloween night, when people are more focused on candy and costumes, and just two days after "Frankenstorm" hit the east coast. Now, network execs are probably sitting around wondering why ratings keep plummeting.

"The X Factor's" first live show had its ups and downs Wednesday night (Oct. 31). There were some definite stand-outs ... and some who really kinda blew it. Whether it was them or their mentors, who can say? But yikes.
The Highlights
Paige Thomas was a heckuva performer. It was interesting that Demi took her so '90s, with the song "What Is Love" -- so heavily associated with the Roxbury "SNL" sketch -- and that crazy metal crown of thorns. But her vocal and stage presence were both great.
Sister C sounded great, but Demi nailed it when she said they were too stiff and she expected more out of them as performers. They've got room for improvement.
Jennel Garcia surprised us on "Home Sweet Home." It was much better than we were expecting out of her.
Lyric145, despite doing a weird mash-up of a not-at-all relevant Will Smith song and "Gangnam Style,...

The Top 16 is finally revealed on the Oct. 23 episode of 'X Factor' with a shocking elimination no one saw coming! Picking up where we left off before baseball ruined everything, Demi Lovato had just told Willie Jones and Jennel Garcia the good news that they both made it through to the live shows on The X Factor. I can't believe The X Factor played this whole thing off like last week's episode wasn't a complete disaster, and that it didn't already show two of Demi's results. However, I will take any chance to re-watch Demi's earnest excitement at telling Jennel and Willie that they had made it through.
Let's recap which other acts from Demi and Simon's groups advanced to the live shows...
Young Adults
Jennel Garcia - Made It
Willie Jones - Made It
Nick Youngerman - He Gone
Paige Thomas - Made It
Wow, if there is such a thing as a beautiful crier, Paige is it. You could feel every bit of emotion that she feels for her daughter in each one of those tears that fell from her eyes during that result.
Jillian Jensen - She Gone
Cece Frey - Made It
I realize that this was probably one of the worst moments of Jillian's life,...

The alarmed look on Simon Cowell’s face said it all. Tuesday night’s Top 16 announcement telecast of The X Factor featured more hysterical weeping than a Grey’s Anatomy season finale, a Justin Bieber concert, and an onion-slicing competition combined.
But all those tears weren’t entirely for naught. Demi Lovato and Simon Cowell narrowed down their respective Young Adult and Groups acts from six to four — and combined with the decisions by Britney Spears (Teens) and L.A. Reid (Over 25s) that aired last week in certain parts of the country (see the recap of those decisions here) — leading...

It was a wild and crazy night on Fox, as a combination of Major League Baseball, the Ben and Kate pilot, five minutes of a Mindy Project episode and just over half of what was supposed to be a two-hour episode of The X Factor aired before the nightly news took over.
Although it may have been frustrating to fight through some of the other material for us X Factor fans, the results we did get to see were pretty entertaining. The teens in particular were fun to watch make it through and/or head home.
It's much easier to enjoy watching a kid's dreams get crushed than one of the old geezers because we know that these kids have their whole lives ahead of them and they might get another chance at this. Heck, Arin Ray has had two opportunities on The X Factor in two straight years.

Some of you may have noticed your Fox programming was a little weird Wednesday night (Oct. 17) -- "Ben and Kate" rerun, a weirdly abbreviated new "X Factor," like 10 minutes of a "Mindy Project" rerun and then more baseball.
What happened was the Nlcs Game 3, which started at 4 p.m. Et, had a 3.5 hour rain delay. When the station wasn't sure if it would come back in primetime, it aired a rerun of "Ben and Kate." Then it decided to start showing the brand new "X Factor." Then when it looked like play would resume, it weirdly flipped over to a "Mindy Project" rerun and announced "The X Factor's" third judges' home episode would air in its entirety on Tuesday, Oct. 23.
However, we've seen a good chunk of it so far, so here's a recap if you're interested:

You know there’s something seriously wrong in the world — or at least on your TV screen — when a 13-year-old boy is looking into the camera and, without the slightest hint of irony or humor, declares “this is the climax of my life.” Hello, and welcome to The X Factor.
I’m still not sure why there was no “TV: Msp” warning in the upper left side of my screen — that’s short for “Middle-Schooler, Please!” — but Fox’s second-string reality singing competition isn’t really to blame. Sure, judge L.A. Reid continued to perpetrate the myth tonight that life...

Demi Lovato, 20, is mentoring the "Young Adults" on Season 2 of The X Factor -- four talented ladies and two talented guys. Although she's partial to the contestents in her group, she told us there is one person who definitely stands out! When we asked Demi, do you have any favorites or someone in particular you are rooting for? She responded, "Of course, I'm rooting for the people in my category but in particular probably the one I'm rooting for the most may be Jennel Garcia. She's amazing!" Demi's group also includes CeCe Frey, Willie Jones, Nick Youngerman, Paige Thomas and Jillian Jensen. The X Factor USA field was narrowed to 24 contestants on Wednesday evening's (October 10) broadcast, and the last two shows have seen all the remaining acts perform in front of their new mentors and some very special guests at Judges' Houses - the final stage of the competition before the live shows commence on November 1. On Wednesday, audiences saw Jennel Garcia, Nick Youngerman, Paige Thomas, Jillian Jensen, Willie Jones and CeCe Frey performing in front of Demi Lovato, who is mentoring the Young Adults category for contestants aged between 17 and 24. She was joined by guest judge and close friend Nick Jonas. Simon Cowell, meanwhile, met with existing groups Dope Crisis, Emblem3 and Sister C, as well as three groups formed following Boot Camp - Lylas, Lyric 145 and Playback. Marc (more)...

Simon Cowell might just be a genius. An hour into Wednesday night’s X Factor episode, all I could think was “Just an hour and change till the series premiere of Nashville!”
A mere 45 minutes later, however, the state of my mental health rested entirely in the fates of a lady rapper from Flint, Mi, who fancies a sequined eyepatch; a trio of Texas sisters who look like they’ve been perpetually trapped inside a tampon ad; five (possibly six) teenage boys glued together by Simon Cowell’s sweat and Marc Anthony’s tears (it’s hard to keep count...

And now the real competition begins!
Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, L.A. Reid and Simon Cowell have a better idea what they're in for this season on The X Factor. Following weeks of talent scouting, the foursome learned who they would be mentoring on Wednesday night.
Video: 'X Factor' Guest Mentors Dish on Competition
Alongside guest mentor Will.I.Am, Spears was paired with the teens while Lovato received the young adults (17-24 years) with close pal Nick Jonas.
The girls were happy about their assignments, taking to Twitter to express their delight.
"I'm so excited! …It's definitely the year of the teens on @TheXFactorUSA! #Winners #BritneysTeens," posted Spears.
"Young Adults = #dreamteam. You guys are awesome!!!," wrote Demi.
As for the boys, Simon Cowell happily took on the groups with his co-mentor Marc Anthony while L.A. Reid, with pop sensation Justin Bieber, not so cheerfully received the over-25s.

Paige Thomas vs. CeCe Frey. Jennel Garcia vs. Tara Simon. Carly Rose Sonenclar vs. Beatrice Miller. Willie Jones vs. Tate Stevens. These were just a few of the spotlighted matchups of the hour on The X Factor's final boot camp episode, during which the remaining contestants (60 acts in all) squared off against each other in the duel round—the last stop before 24 acts get good news at the judges' homes and the rest get their hearts broken. Not surprisingly, producers waited till the last minute to show us the hyped rematch between roommates Paige and CeCe, who both took on and impressed with "I Will Always Love You" on last night's show. CeCe even added additional leopard spots to her...

A number of crimes involving the male torso went down on Thursday night’s installment of The X Factor. Simon Cowell rocked a neckline that plunged dangerously close to his netherregions. A member of boy band Emblem3 wore suspenders — without a shirt! (I’ll pause for a moment while you fight back the acrid taste of bile). And oh the sounds that got caught and killed in the chests of fresh-faced Willie Jones and wheelchair-bound Freddie Combs! (We’ll just assume the former’s were low and rumbly, in a bebeh-lock-them-dawwrs kinda way, and the latter’s were tremulous and overbaked.

The X Factor was in a precarious position Wednesday night — and I’m not just talking about the way it drove a bespectacled 12-year-old boy to openly weep for his mommy.
Indeed, Fox’s jewel-encrusted, aggressive and occasionally gassy reality singing competition had to serve as an amuse-bouche for the main course: The first 2012 presidential debate between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.
How to strike a tone, then, that could serve as appropriate lead-in to a verbal battle to become leader of the free world: An old-fashoned girlfight between two lovely ladies and their respective versions of Whitney Houston’s...

Farewell, "X Factor" auditions. We had some fun with you, but it's finally time to move on to something else. Anything else. It's time for Boot Camp, which would be a lot like Hollywood Week on "American Idol," except that it's in Miami and, therefore, is completely different. Wednesday's (October 3) episode is only an hour because of the debate, so let's get down to the business of singing! 8:01 p.m. Et. So much drama! 8:02 p.m. We start in Shreveport, naturally. This is the home of Willie Jones, the 17-year-old who astounded the judges by being African-American and singing country. On...

Bring on the dancing dogs! America’s Got X Factor finished its Season 2 auditions Thursday night, and I, for one, can’t wait to see how the Pekingese and the Poodle fare when they get to Boot Camp.
Okay, okay, I’m being a cranky beast from Hades, but Thursday night’s X Factor installment felt more like NBC’s summer variety special than a search for a legitimate musical superstar. There was the 13-year-old kid who passed out backstage from “dehydration” — a dark part of my brain imagined him whispering “Mom, did you slip my that Rohypnol like I asked you to?...

Wednesday night’s X Factor ended with the image of a 13-year-old boy collapsed in a heap in his mother’s lap, a flurry of producers and medics trying to figure out if he’d live or if he’d eventually die of embarrassment at the hands of Simon Cowell.
I’m not sure if the incident was a clever indictment of the lengths today’s youth will go to for a chance at fame, or just a happy (medical) accident that the show’s producers cynically used to fill out yet another two-hour audition episode. Maybe it was both.
