Stand back, Marvel Cinematic Universe. Be gone, DC Extended Universe. The power of The Conjuring Universe compels you!
It may astonish those who aren't horror fans or haven't been paying attention, but 2013's "The Conjuring" has not only spawned two direct sequels, but two entire spin-off film franchises that are still going strong: the "Annabelle" series and "The Nun" films. In fact, the latter's latest installment — oh-so-helpfully entitled "The Nun II" — is due to haunt theaters everywhere on September 8, 2023.
If you can't quite recall where and when we last saw the only married demonologist team in the tri-county area, Ed and Lorraine Warren, or if you're having trouble separating your La Lloronas from your Valaks, fear not! The following will not only get you up to speed with the ghouls, demons, and ghosts of The Conjuring Universe, but it will also lay out the tangled timeline of the entire series in chronological order.

Annabelle Comes Home, directed by occasional franchise writer Gary Dauberman, is the latest entry into the ongoing Conjuring property and sets itself just after the events of the first Annabelle feature with the Warrens, played by returning actors Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, bringing the demonic doll back to their sacred museum for storage. What unfolds is arguably the best story told and the most frightening and impactful horror in the franchise since the first Conjuring feature.
Dauberman’s film is a perfect culmination of the series thus far. Managing to stand out on its own and not a constant barrage of dependable referential tie-ins that most franchises almost seven films deep tend to gravitate towards. Granted, Dauberman pulls out the big guns with the inclusion of famed horror icons the Warrens,...

Everyone's favorite haunted doll is back! So let’s break down the unleashed ending to the latest The Conjuring film, Annabelle Comes Home.
This article contains major Annabelle Comes Home spoilers.
The Conjuring universe may have started with a restrained haunted house story, but it’s since visited haunted monasteries, tapped into Mexican folklore, and teased a whole world of supernatural entities. The Conjuring universe shows no signs of slowing down, but undoubtedly one of the franchise’s most popular characters is the haunted doll, Annabelle. Annabelle Comes Home is the third film in the Annabelle saga and is easily the craziest offering from any of the Conjuring pictures. It even brings The Conjuring’s Ed and Lorraine Warren back into the mix.
This film tells a fairly self-contained story that's neatly sandwiched between other films in the series, but Annabelle Comes Home still throws a lot at its audience.

After an excitingly popular debut during The Conjuring‘s prologue, the creepily revamped Annabelle doll (its real-life counterpart was actually a Raggedy Anne) earned the title role in the first spin-off of this ever-growing horror universe. That installment left much to be desired with screenwriter Gary Dauberman eventually redeeming himself three years later with Annabelle: Creation, thanks in part to director David F. Sandberg. You might assume this demonic vessel would then be left alone since its tragic trajectory had now been fully drawn from the home of its maker to its ultimate resting place inside Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) and Ed Warren’s (Patrick Wilson) in-house museum of cursed objects. With a third Conjuring film still in production, however, producer James Wan and Dauberman hatched a plan to keep going instead.

Tales of spooky occurrences on the sets of horror movies like “The Exorcist” and “Poltergeist” have circulated for years, and it looks like “The Conjuring” franchise is following in their footsteps in that regard. The cast of “Annabelle Comes Home” shared their unnerving stories from set at the film’s premiere on Thursday night at the Regency Village Theatre in Westwood, Calif., but “Conjuring” veteran Patrick Wilson is not afraid of ghosts… or Annabelle dolls.
“That’s because it’s their first movie,” Wilson cracked to Variety on the red carpet when asked if he’d had any freak occurrences on set like his co-stars. The actor has starred as Ed Warren in the horror franchise since 2013 and says he’s pretty immune to the creepiness, usually finding himself trying to talk sense into everyone else.

*full disclosure: a Blu-ray screener of this film was provided by Warner Bros. Director: David F. Sandberg. Writers: Gary Dauberman. Cast: Anthony Lapaglia, Samara Lee, Miranda Otto, Stephanie Sigman and Talitha Eliana Bateman. Annabelle: Creation is latest film set in an expanding Conjuring film universe. This title is a prequel to the first Annabelle (2014) movie. Very much an origin story, Annabelle: Creation explores the curse of a very recognizable doll. The film was written by Gary Dauberman, who also wrote the first Annabelle. In this outing, six orphans find a new, haunted place to live. Isolated on an old farm, the six girls are harassed by either a Devil doll or very dark demon. The focus on this title is on developing creepy scenes. Very much like a haunted house ride put to film, Annabelle: Creation offers one well rehearsed scare after another. The film is also a popcorn flick,...

*there are spoilers here. Director: David F. Sandberg. Writers: Gary Dauberman and Gary Dauberman. Cast: Anthony Lapaglia, Samara Lee and Miranda Otto. The supernatural world created by The Conjuring film franchise is a terrifying one. The back stories from the three films (The Conjuring (2013), The Conjuring 2 (2016) and Annabelle (2014)) form the backdrop and are acknowledged in Annabelle: Creation and what's next may well put all the films into a darker perspective. Much like Paranormal Activity, the supernatural beast everyone wants to know more of is being revealed slowly. In this film series' case, Valek is like Tobey. When considering how the lore portrays this demon sometimes appearing in the form of a child riding a two-headed dragon, this movie is not too far off the written canon. Works that reference him include the Dictionnaire Infernal by Collin de Plancy and Pseudomonarchia Daemonum by Johann Wier. This critic assumes that this...

Annabelle: Creation is one of 2017’s scariest films!
Variety reports: “Annabelle: Creation,” which conjured $35 million in its opening to dominate an otherwise lackluster frame last weekend, will wind up the weekend with about $64 million in its first 10 days. The film is the fourth in New Line’s highly profitable “Conjuring” universe and should see the combined worldwide grosses hit the $1 billion mark this weekend, thanks to 2013’s “The Conjuring,” 2014’s “Annabelle,” 2016’s “The Conjuring 2,” and “Annabelle: Creation.” Next up is “The Nun,” starring Taissa Farmiga and Demian Bichir and due out July 13.
In his review, Michael Haffner says “it proudly stands next to The Conjuring films as delivering real scares. What helps with this is making the audience afraid of not just the doll, but of what other being is haunting the house as well as the always hidden mother. It’s a terrifying trifecta that fits perfectly into the ominous surroundings.

These two young actresses are definitely rising stars due to their acting range and maturity in the Hollywood business.
Talitha Bateman marks her major studio debut with Annabelle: Creation as a polio-stricken girl, who is haunted by a demon possessed in a doll. And Lulu Wilson plays her emotional and vulnerable best friend at the orphanage. Wilson was previously known for her terrific performance in another horror film Ouija: Origin of Evil.
The two girls star in Director David F. Sandberg’s Annabelle: Creation alongside Stephanie Sigman (Spectre), Miranda Otto (The Lord of the Rings), Anthony Lapaglia (Without a Trace), and Alicia Vela-Bailey (Lights Out).
The film is a prequel to 2014’s highly successful Annabelle. It tells of the origin story on how the creepy doll was created and possessed. The doll ends up haunting a group of orphan girls.
Lrm participated in a roundtable interview with a few reporters and the two young actresses.

Forget The Dark Universe. The best horror franchise currently in play belongs to James Wan, whose “The Conjuring” spin-offs delivers a world filled with nightmarish creatures like The Crooked Man, The Nun, and a doll that could make even Chucky’s blood run cold. Welcome to the frightful terrain of “Annabelle,” now equipped with a whole movie to provide its backstory.
Although 2014’s “Annabelle” did well enough at the box office to warrant a sequel, reviews were less than stellar. But the surprise success of Mike Flanagan’s “Ouija: Origin of Evil” offered a solution that was likely too good to ignore: hire an indie horror director to create a prequel-sequel set in the past. And so, the hideously scary doll of the first installment was reborn, this time with “Lights Out” director David F. Sandberg behind the camera.

Golden Globe and Emmy nominee Benjamin Wallfisch (upcoming It, A Cure For Wellness, Lights Out) is recognized as one of the leading film composers of his generation. His masterfully unnerving 24-track Annabelle: Creation film score offers a potent dimension of eeriness that magnifies the suspenseful discomfort when set against picture.

Don't write this Annabelle: Creation film off because the first movie wasn't that good. That first Annabelle film was rushed into production to capitalize off the success of The Conjuring. But, this sequel is the real deal. This sequel looks like a great film that tells a great story, and I'm totally excited about seeing it! I've heard great things about this film from people who have seen it, and if you're a fan of horror films, you won't want to miss out on this one.
Today we have a couple new clips from the film for you to watch. These are both pretty fun clips and each one offers up a wonderfully creepy scene that I think you'll enjoy.
Annabelle: Creation tells the tale of a dollmaker and his wife who, several years after the tragic death of their little girl, welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home.

So much attention has been paid to Warner Bros. and New Line’s future plans for their fledgling Conjuring universe that it’s almost easy to forget that the latest instalment, Annabelle: Creation, is right around the corner.
Pegged for theatrical release on August 11th, the nightmarish prequel comes to us by way of Swedish director David F. Sandberg, who made waves in Hollywood’s horror genre thanks to last year’s Lights Out – a skillful, expertly crafted thriller that had smarts and scares. What makes Lights Out all the more impressive is that it’s actually Sandberg’s feature film debut, after spending his early career crafting low-budget horror shorts. Now, he’s been offered a shot at the mainstream, and we couldn’t be more excited.

In two months’ time, Warner Bros. and New Line will peel back the curtain on their latest installment in the ever-evolving Conjuring universe. Its name? Annabelle: Creation, a horror sequel coming by way of David F. Sandberg.
If that name rings a bell, it should; following up on a string of no-budget shorts, two years ago Sandberg delivered a cracking feature film debut in the form of Lights Out, and the picture proved so successful – so downright terrifying – that the filmmaker was quickly drafted into the Conjuring universe.
It’s fast becoming one of the biggest horror franchises in Hollywood, too, what with plans in place for multiple spinoffs (see: The Nun and The Crooked Man) along with a third Conjuring film to be written by franchise veteran David Leslie Johnson. Director James Wan is yet to sign on for the threequel, though if Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson have their way,...

For his second feature, David F. Sandberg really went all out for Annabelle: Creation, mixing up his bag of horror tricks to deliver a cinematic experience that just relentlessly comes at you with the scares once the titular doll is discovered and all hell is unleashed on anyone in her path. As far as prequels go, Sandberg has done a helluva job with Annabelle: Creation, and I commend the filmmaker for creating a clever and wickedly fun horror movie that surpasses its predecessor in numerous ways (akin to Mike Flanagan’s Ouija: Origin of Evil last year). And, beyond that, Sandberg actually found a way to make the Annabelle doll super creepy, and I’m not one to be easily unnerved by evil inanimate objects. Well done all around, sir.
Annabelle: Creation precedes the events of Annabelle by more than a decade, when we first meet a doll-maker named Samuel Mullins (Anthony Lapaglia) and his family (Miranda Otto as the missus and Samara Lee as the adorable little “Bee”), who enjoy an idyllic life on their homestead until an accident claims the life of Bee, leaving her parents grief-stricken and despondent over their loss. After some time, they decide to invite a group of orphans who have been displaced to live with them, hoping the new residents will help bring some life into the otherwise empty-feeling abode.
But the Mullins quickly realize that bringing the children and their caretaker, Sister Charlotte (Stephanie Sigman) into their home was a big mistake, as young Janice (Talitha Bateman) discovers a secret hidden away in Bee’s bedroom: an evil doll that seems to be hellbent on torturing the little girl, as well as her best friend, Linda (Lulu Wilson), and the rest of their fellow orphans. And that’s when things go absolutely bonkers in the best ways possible.
Sandberg proved he was more than capable of concocting some innovative, yet beautifully simple scares with last summer’s breakout hit Lights Out. For Annabelle: Creation, though, he steps up his game and devises some truly inspired scares, once again tapping into childhood fears to bring his beautifully twisted genre sensibilities to life.
Oh, and just because he’s dealing with children, don’t expect Sandberg to take it easy on the young protagonists in Annabelle: Creation. All the girls get their fair share of terror-filled moments to endure throughout the story, but it’s Bateman’s character, Janice, who really feels the brunt of most of it, being tortured by ghostly figures, creepy entities hiding in the shadows, an unseen force that tosses her nearly 20 feet in the air and then, just a short time later, drags her through an old barn as she’s trying to convalesce from the heinous fall. Beyond that, Sandberg also gives us one of the creepiest scarecrows I’ve seen in some time, and a few other unexpected otherworldly delights that I don’t want to go into much further, as it would probably ruin some stuff. But suffice to say, Sandberg and Annabelle: Creation earn that R rating.
At the forefront of Creation are Bateman and Wilson (who gave me chills with her turn in the aforementioned Ouija: Origin of Evil), who both deliver fantastic performances. The actresses share an infectious chemistry together, and I enjoyed watching their dynamic shift throughout the prequel, as poor Janice can’t escape being a punching bag for the evil forces lurking inside the Mullins house, and Linda desperately wants to help her friend, but isn’t sure of how exactly to do just that. The actresses have a natural camaraderie in Annabelle: Creation, which makes them easy to invest in as characters you want to see survive the horrors of the Mullins house.
Also, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the amazing production design by Jennifer Spence for Annabelle: Creation (seriously, you could get lost in the details of the Mullins’ house), and the inventive and stunning camerawork from cinematographer Maxime Alexandre (who has also lensed a slew of other great modern genre films like High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes remake, The Crazies remake, the Maniac remake, as well as the dark comedy The Voices). The contributions of both creative individuals really elevate the overall look and feel of Annabelle: Creation, and it was easy to get immersed in Sandberg’s world because of their combined efforts.
And for those of you who are curious, Creation does tie into the original Annabelle and we also get nods to The Conjuring as well as the real-life haunted doll, too. I won’t go into specifics because I don’t want to ruin the fun, but for those of you on the hunt for some Easter eggs, Sandberg has incorporated several that you should definitely enjoy discovering in his latest project.
With Annabelle: Creation, Sandberg successfully moves the James Wan-iverse forward with an unyielding sense of glee, and I think he’s done something very special with his latest film. I may not have been someone who needed another Annabelle movie, but I’m so glad it was Sandberg who was behind it, because his pure passion for classic horror oozes through in every single frame, and I really had a blast with it. I wouldn’t call it “scary” by any means for those of us who eat, sleep, and breathe horror, but Sandberg has managed to create something of an entertaining roller coaster ride that never lets up once the director lets the evil in Creation go full throttle.

Last April LRMOnline was present at the exclusive first look at some footage, and trailer, for New Line Cinema's Annabelle: Creation. This film is the prequel to the 2014 film Annabelle and it is the fourth film in The Conjuring franchise. It is written by Gary Dauberman, directed by David Sandberg, produced by Peter Safran and James Wan and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. This film will focus on the story about the origin of the possessed Annabelle doll.
In real life, the Annabelle doll is actually a Raggedy Ann doll that is currently on display at The Warrens' Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut. According to demonologiost Ed and Lorraine Warren, this doll is haunted. The story goes that in the 70's the owner of the doll noticed that the doll was being very strange, and through a psychic she found out that apparently is was inhabited by the spirit of a dead girl named Annabelle Higgins. After a while the behavior of the doll became bad enough that the Warrens were contacted to remove the doll and take it to their museum. Of course this is all speculation, no one can really prove if it was real or not.
As for the film itself here is the synopsis for the film:
Several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker's possessed creation, Annabelle.
The film stars Stephanie Sigman, Talitha Bateman, Lulu Wilson, Philippa Anne Coulthard, Grace Fulton, Lou Lou Safran and Samara Lee.
Although this is not my type of film, I will say that I am very interested in the origin story. From the extra footage that I got to see at Wondercon it seems like it will be quite suspenseful and filled with moments that will make you jump. This may be one worth checking out. Is Annabelle: Creation on your radar? Chime in below!

I'm a huge fan of The Conjuring films, but I didn't really care for the first Annabelle spinoff film. It was disappointing and I didn't think it was very good or very scary. But this sequel, Annabelle: Creation, actually looks like it could really be good and it could actually bring terror into people's lives! Maybe it's because it deals with orphan kids stuck in a house in the middle of nowhere being tormented by a haunted doll. To take things to another level of intensity, one of the main little girl characters has a handicap that prevents her from getting away fast when the demon comes after her. Here's the synopsis:
Several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation,...

From the Dark Universe to the MonsterVerse, the Marvel Cinematic Universe to Warner’s rejuvenated DC Extended Universe – you can thank Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman movie for delivering the studio’s first bona fide critical hit – you don’t have to search too far to locate one of Hollywood’s interconnected franchises.
On the horror side of things, Warner Bros. has been making serious headway on its Conjuring universe in recent years, commissioning a full-blown sequel in The Enfield Poltergeist and multiple spinoffs. That expansion took the form of 2014’s Annabelle, John R. Leonetti’s horror prequel that scared up $256 million worldwide. An impressive feat, given it was tethered to a shoestring budget of just $6.5 million.
Hoping to catch lightning in the bottle once again is David F. Sandberg (Lights Out), who is at the helm of this year’s horror sequel, Annabelle: Creation. And so, following up on a...

The Conjuring Universe is taking a trip down memory lane to reveal the true origin of the terrifying Annabelle doll. Take a look at the full-length trailer for Annabelle: Creation.

Annabelle 2 is set to come out later this year, and the good folks over at New Line Cinema are hoping to build on the following created by the first film, which was a spinoff from James Wan's very successful horror film The Conjuring. The Annabelle doll was introduced in that film, and she sparked enough interest to get her own flick. The first Annabelle made $257 million when it came out in 2014, on a budget of only $6.5 million.
Annabelle 2 is being directed by David F. Sandberg, who directed last summer's very well-received scary movie Lights Out. The film is set to star Stephanie Sigman (“Spectre”), Talitha Bateman (“The 5th Wave”), Lulu Wilson (upcoming “Ouija 2,” “Deliver Us from Evil”), Philippa Coulthard (“After the Dark”), Grace Fulton (“Badland”), Lou Lou Safran (“The Choice”), Samara Lee (“Foxcatcher,” “The Last Witch Hunter”), Tayler Buck in her feature film debut, with Anthony Lapaglia...

After summoning the Enfield Poltergeist with last year’s hit horror sequel The Conjuring 2, New Line Cinema has all hands at the pump in anticipation of Annabelle 2, David F. Sandberg’s long-awaited continuation that’s set to usher that titular, downright terrifying puppet back into the limelight.
Sandberg, who wowed moviegoers and critics alike with the impressive Lights Out, is directing from a script penned by Gary Dauberman. Peter Safran and James Wan – one of the founding fathers of the Conjuring film series – are attached to produce, with the official Annabelle 2 synopsis teasing all sorts of horrors for a dollmaker and his unsuspecting family.
Following the untimely death of their youngest daughter, our protagonists open their doors to the local nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage. What follows is a series of unfortunate, downright horrifying events, and you’ll be able to get a sense...

There used to be this creepy-ass doll in my family that we would scare the shit out of each other with. We'd hide it in places and sneak it in places where we'd unsuspectingly find it. It all started when I snuck into my brother's bedroom while he was sleeping and placed it at the end of the bed sitting down staring at him. He woke up the whole house with the wonderful sounds of blood-curdling screams.
Anyway, this new photo that was released for the upcoming horror film Annabelle 2 reminded me of that. If I ever walked into my room at night and a doll like this was sitting up on my bed I'd take it and burn it. It would definitely send chills down my spine! I'm surprised that the poor girl in the photo isn't shown running out screaming like my little brother did.

Swedish filmmaker David F. Sandberg impressed many a horror fan with the release of Lights Out, his directorial debut spun out from a short film of the same name. It even wowed the vast majority of critics, pulled in more than $160 million worldwide, and earned a sequel order from New Line.
But before being drawn back into the cult series, Sandberg has the small matter of helming a high-profile spinoff to tackle, and it goes by the name of Annabelle 2. Nipping at the heels of yesterday’s tease, we now have our grubby paws on the inaugural teaser for the 2017 feature – and yes, it heralds the return of the titular doll in typically creepy fashion.
Starring Miranda Otto, Anthony Lapaglia and Stephanie Sigman, the snippet above doesn’t necessarily offer up anything substantial, but lean closely and you can hear Otto’s lead call out Annabelle’s name. Could...

If you needed another reason to stay the Hell away from creepy looking dolls, the first teaser for Annabelle 2 has arrived to put a new spin on tea parties. Come inside to check it out!
Annabelle, the spooky doll from The Conjuring which sparked it's own spin-off movie series makes her return in the first look at footage from Annabelle 2:
Annabelle has always been interesting to me, mostly because it has such an odd place within these movies. The Conjuring really wasn't about the doll's possession, and despite the marketing focusing on it, only took up a little bit of screentime. The first spin-off was...okay. The plot was all over the place and aside from a few jump scares, felt all over the place.
Obviously this first trailer for Annabelle 2 doesn't do much in terms of the film's plot, but it does a solid job...

She's back.
Lights Out director David F. Sandberg and producer James Wan are reteaming for Annabelle 2, the sequel to the spin-off of The Conjuring that concentrates on the possessed doll eventually found by paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. This one has a cast that includes Stephanie Sigman (Spectre), Talitha Bateman (The 5th Wave), Lulu Wilson (upcoming Ouija 2, Deliver Us From Evil), Philippa Anne Coulthard (After the Dark), Grace Fulton (Badland), Lou Lou Safran (The Choice), Samara Lee (Foxcatcher, The Last Witch Hunter), Tayler Buck, with Anthony Lapaglia (TV’s Without a Trace) and Miranda Otto (Showtime’s Homeland, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy), and it hits theaters on May 19, 2017.
Warner Bros. has just released a video they're billing as an "announcement tease," and it's sufficiently spooky, largely because they don't show too much of what's going on and let your imagination do most of the heavy lifting.

Mark your diaries; an Annabelle 2 announcement teaser is due to drop tomorrow and while we wait, there’s an eerie new set photo to pour over.
Hailing from director David F. Sandberg’s (Light’s Out) Twitter feed, the behind-the-scenes pic sees the filmmaker prop up that relentlessly evil porcelain doll, perhaps preparing it to feature in some capacity when said teaser hits the interwebs. The jury’s still out on that one, but some form of unsettling snippet to whet our collective appetite for the full reveal appears likely.
