Also on the slate is a travelog tracing the journey made by legendary prince Lord Ram and a documentary on the climate crisis in India, Deadline can reveal. An access doc on Hindi movie megastar Salman Khan is also nearing completion.
Applause, led by Indian broadcasting veteran Sameer Nair, is best known for scripted drama series such as Scam 1992 and Taj – A Monument of Blood and adapting the likes of The Office, Luther, Guilt, Hostages and Criminal Justice in Hindi, but is now pushing heavily into unscripted and genres such as sketch comedy. Vice is launching its own online documentary film festival with 11 feature-docs curated by the company’s co-founder Suroosh Alvi.
The youth-skewing media company is launching a site to house the films, which includes a number of Oscar contenders, with each film featuring a Q&a with Alvi and the filmmakers and subjects.
The films are The Toxic Pigs of Fukushima, Showgirls of Pakistan, We Hold the Line, Sakawa, Another Kind of Paradise, Dope Is Death, Mayor, The Donut King, Yung Lean – In My Head, Two Gods and The Prophet and the Space Aliens (full details below).
The collection will be preceded by a linear airing of The Toxic Pigs of Fukushima, which will air today, January 31 at 6:30am Pt, on Vice TV, with the site going live at 8am Pt.

Morgan directed by Michael Akers from the USA won the Best Narrative Feature Film at the 4th Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival. The award, which has a cash prize of Rs 30,000 sponsored by actor Anupam Kher, was handed out at the closing ceremony of the festival on Sunday evening.
“We thank the festival for its amazing work in helping to bring film’s such as ours to the audiences who desperately need it,’’ said Akers.
The Best Indian Short Narrative film award was won by Urmi directed by Jehangir Jani. The award was given by filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi.
