Vaccination Status Denied As Factor In NFL Cuts, As Jacksonville Jaguars Walk Back Coach’s Statement
Update: The Jacksonville Jaguars have walked back a controversial statement by head coach Urban Meyer, who said that vaccine status was a “decision-maker” in the makeup of his team’s final roster.
Meyer cited the risks associated with unvaccinated players under the NFL’s Covid-19 protocols.
“Everyone was considered,” Meyer said on Tuesday via ESPN. “That was part of the [considerations such as] production, let’s start talking about this, and also is he vaccinated or not? Can I say that that was a decision-maker? It was certainly in consideration.”
The NFL Players Association said it has launched an investigation into Meyer after the remarks.
The Jaguars team issued a statement Wednesday that it claimed “clarified” the Meyer remarks, saying no player was cut based on his status.

National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell admitted Friday that the league should have listened more closely in the past to players who complained about racism.
Goodell issued an Instagram video today on behalf of the NFL after several star players issued their own video, Stronger Together, on Thursday, asking for the league to condemn racism and support its black players.
The league responded a day later.
“We, the National Football League, admit we were wrong for not listening to NFL players earlier and encourage all to speak out and peacefully protest,” Goodell said. “It has been a difficult time for our country. In particular, black people in our country. First, my condolences to the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and all the families who have endured police brutality.”

Several of the most prominent stars in the National Football League posted a video demanding the league condemn racism and admit it was wrong to silence protesting players.
The video comes after the death of George Floyd, who died after a Minneapolis police officer kneeled on his neck for several minutes, after Floyd repeatedly said he couldn’t breathe. Organizations around the country, including the NFL, shared statements of support after Floyd’s death.
However, some people viewed the NFL’s statement as insincere, after quarterback Colin Kaepernick faced backlash for kneeling during football games to protest police brutality and the oppression of Black rights.
“It’s been 10 days since George Floyd was brutally murdered. How many times do we need to ask you to listen to your players? What will it take? For one of us to be murdered by police brutality? What if I was George Floyd?” the players ask in the video.

After my last go-around with the franchise (writing for We Got This Covered), my interest in EA Tiburon’s juggernaut had dwindled. I considered myself a pretty big fan, but the past two entries just didn’t really grab me. Perhaps it was due to my boy Patrick Mahomes getting the cover star treatment, but I still felt compelled to seek out this year’s iteration. It turns out, Madden NFL 20 is a solid, if not overly ambitious, entry to the cannon.

DeAndre Hopkins had nothing but love for late Houston Texans owner Bob McNair on Monday ... despite the fact the two clashed hard after McNair's infamous "inmates run the prison" comment. Remember, while NFL owners held a meeting to find a way to stop the kneeling protests last year ... McNair was quoted as saying, “We can’t have the inmates running the prison.” Hopkins was reportedly Very offended by McNair's comment and sat out a full practice in protest.

Updated with additional broadcast ratings: The World Series was dark Thursday as the Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox relocated to the City of Angels for tonight’s Game 3, but Fox had a pretty good night anyway in baseball’s absence with a rising Thursday Night Football.
Taking the top spot in the demo and total viewers in primetime for a third consecutive night against competition that included the series premiere of the CW’s Vampire Diaries spinoff Legacies, Fox along with NFL Network scored a 9.2/16 in metered market results for the Houston Texans’ 42-23 victory over the Miami Dolphins. The number was fueled by the muscle being flexed by the Lone Star State team this season and some unbelievable catches again by wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins:
Every @DeAndreHopkins catch that counted from #MIAvsHOU.
Plus one that didn’t count but Oh My.

Last night’s Sunday Night Football Lone Star state showdown between the Houston Texans and the Dallas Cowboys was the worst of times and the best of times for DeAndre Hopkins.
The worst of times was a clumsy fumble by the Texans wide receiver in the third quarter handing a big advantage to the visiting Cowboys in a game that had little room for error. The best clearly came in overtime as Hopkins snagged a 49-yard pass from Texans Qb Deshaun Watson that moved the Texans into position for a field goal from Ka’imi Fairbairn that delivered the 19-16 win after a long night. As for the big draw Cowboys, this is the team’s third loss in a row on the road and that’s gotta hurt more than just Jerry Jones, if you know what I mean?
However, with a 12.4/22 in metered market results, NBC and the...
