We all know that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip have one of the great royal love stories of our time. Evidence of that love story sits right there on the queen's finger every day via her wedding band and engagement ring. Like many royal (and non-royal) women, the queen wears her two rings and has since her 1947 wedding. And, just like so many others, she has quite a story behind both of her rings.
As Town and Country explains, the engagement ring that Philip gave to Elizabeth in 1946 was both a family heirloom and a brand-new piece. Confused? Let us explain. The ring includes a center diamond, surrounded by several smaller, pavé diamonds. Although the ring itself was new, the diamonds were not. When he revealed his plans to propose, Philip's mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg, gave him a tiara that she herself had been given on her wedding day...

For every beautiful piece of jewelry that Queen Elizabeth owns, she probably has an incredible story to tell about how she got it. But the most fascinating anecdote is likely the history behind her royal engagement ring. The ring was gifted to her by her husband, Prince Philip, in 1947 and it features a large, three-carat, round diamond. The stone is so beautiful that it's actually surrounded by 10 smaller diamonds and, according to Town & Country, those diamonds were originally part of a tiara owned by Prince Philip's mother and Queen Victoria's great-granddaughter, Princess Alice of Battenberg. (Photo Credit: Getty Images) Philip received the family heirloom once Princess Alice found out that he was going to propose to then Princess Elizabeth. She wanted the moment to be special, so she ended up gifting her son her crown, which he later transformed into an engagement ring. Interestingly enough, the tiara was the...

Prince William continued his tour of Jordan, Israel, and the Occupied Palestinian Territories on Thursday with a visit to Jerusalem. After having fun in the preceding days, the final day of the trip was an emotionally charged one that saw the prince paying tribute to his great-grandmother Princess Alice of Battenberg (later known as Princess Andrew of Greece and Denmark). Alice was mother to William's grandfather Prince Philip, and she lived briefly at Buckingham Palace before her death in 1969. Though William never met her, he's no doubt heard many stories about her actions during WWII, when she sheltered Jewish refugees in Athens. For this, she was recognized as "Righteous Among the Nations" by the State of Israel, and her remains now lie in the Church of St. Mary Magdalene at the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. William paid a visit to the tomb to lay flowers and was also photographed standing on the mount,...

Prince William toured Jerusalem on the final day of his solo pilgrimage to the Middle East and made sure to stop at the tomb of his great-grandmother, Princess Alice of Battenberg. A little royal lineage knowledge ... Alice was the mother of Prince Philip, who is married to Queen Elizabeth, William's grandmother. Alice was deeply religious, and took in Jews during WWII, and her remains were transferred to the Convent of Saint Mary Magdalene in Jerusalem in the '80s,...

Prince William is about to embark on another royal tour! On Thursday, Kensington Palace confirmed that the father of three will be visiting Jordan, Israel, and the Occupied Palestinian Territories next month. His five-day trip will kick off on June 24 and include visits to Amman, Tel Aviv, Ramallah, and Jerusalem. The palace added that the visit was "at the request of Her Majesty's government and has been welcomed by the Israeli, Jordanian and Palestinian authorities."
While he won't be bringing along Kate Middleton this time around, the trip is a historic moment as it marks the first time a member of the royal family has traveled to Israel on official business. Prince Philip previously visited in 1994 for a Yad Vashem ceremony honoring his mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg, while Prince Charles attended the funeral of former President Shimon Peres in 2016.
The 35-year-old royal has certainly been keeping busy in recent months.
