Exclusive: Portugal has become the latest territory to order a local version of CBS’ Let’s Make a Deal.
The show will broadcast daily in access primetime on local network Tvi and marks the latest territory expansion for a format that has been given a shot in the arm since its underlying IP was acquired by Marcus Lemonis and Nancy Glass’s fledgling Marcus / Glass Productions.
Fremantle Portugal will produce the Portuguese version and Pedro Texeira will helm.
In Let’s Make a Deal, which has been running on and off for 50 years in the U.S. and on CBS for the past 14, select members of the studio audience make deals with the host. These traders are offered something of value and given a choice of whether to keep it or exchange it for a different item, while the other item is hidden from the trader until that choice is made.

The gamer, which is hosted by Wayne Brady and produced by Fremantle for CBS in the U.S., is aiming to expand to Germany, Indonesia, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Hungary, Ireland and Poland under new deals. Each territory has a prior history and following with the show, and local broadcasters and production companies will facilitate airings in their respective countries.

South Korean TV network Mbn is to give a weekly primetime slot this summer to a localized version of studio-based reality show “Mystery Duets.”
The concept sees the nation’s most famous singers and celebrities perform a duet without knowing with whom they share the stage. It is only in the middle of the song that they discover each other’s identity as the screen between them rises. Viewers at home play along as one of the two performers’ identities are kept a secret.
The show is a format originally produced by Dmls TV, part of Banijay France, and had its first iteration on leading French network TF1 from last year. Fox has teamed up with “Triumph the Insult Comic Dog” creator Robert Smigel to turn Donald Trump and Joe Biden into puppets for an upcoming election special, the network announced Tuesday.
Titled “Let’s Be Real,” the satirical special will air Thursday, October 1 on the broadcast network, covering “politics, pop culture and the 2020 election through topical sketches featuring puppets, celebrity cameos and remote pieces.”
A short promo released Tuesday gives a glimpse of the puppet politicians.
Smigel, known for his work on “Saturday Night Live” and voicing the foul-mouthed canine puppet Triumph on Conan O’Brien’s late-night show, serves as writer and executive producer on the special. The puppets themselves were created by Puppet Heap.
Ben Silverman, Howard Owens and Kevin Healy executive produce for Propagate, alongside Gerald-Brice Viret of Canal+, as well as Arnaud Renard and Matthieu Porte of Can’t Stop Media. Rachael Field is a producer, and Bruce Leddy directs.

Fox Entertainment has slated Let’s Be Real, a half-hour election-themed satirical puppet special executive produced by Robert Smigel. Airing Oct. 1, following the first 2020 Presidential debate, the comedy special will cover politics, pop culture and the 2020 election through topical sketches featuring puppets, celebrity cameos and remote pieces. Based on the French pop culture sketch puppet show Les Guignols, Let’s Be Real is produced by Propagate.
The alternative comedy marks the first collaboration between Fox Entertainment’s scripted and unscripted departments to make it to air. The U.K.-based indie, run by Matthieu Porte, Arnaud Renard and Damien Porte, has also struck a new deal with Vivendi and Canal Plus which sees Can’t Stop Media become the international distributor for IP controlled by Vivendi Entertainment.
The deal includes the formats “Guess My Age,” which has been licensed in 18 countries since 2016, including daily versions currently on air in Italy, Spain and Thailand; “Couple or Not;” Tfi hit “The Secret Song; “Facing the Classroom,” which has been adapted in nine countries; and “Mum of the Week,” which has been adapted in eight countries including a new daily version in Ukraine on Stb.

Catchphrase and Sex Tape producer Stv Productions is developing a UK adaptation of French entertainment format The Secret Song.
The company, which is the production arm of the Scottish broadcaster, has optioned the format from Vivendi Entertainment.
The series, which was originally created by Dmlstv, airs on TF1 in France. In each show, singers, actors, TV hosts, athletes and comedians have to sit in a chair in the middle of the stage, in the dark, having absolutely no clue about what’s going to happen. But then, the music starts playing, the lights go up, and they are surprised to hear the first notes of a song that means a lot to them.
Separately, ITV Studios Germany has also optioned the format, which has been snapped up in ten countries including Finland.
Stv produces series including ITV entertainment format Safeword, which has been remade for VH1 in the U.S.
