Sir John Hurt, recently knighted for his services to drama, revealed today that he has been diagnosed with early stage pancreatic cancer. He is undergoing treatment, says he is optimistic about it, and intends to continue working.
Celebrated for his work in films like The Elephant Man, Midnight Express and Alien, the 75 year old actor recently appeared alongside Dways 'The Rock' Johnson in Hercules and is currently filming The History Of Love with Gemma Arterton and Derek Jacobi. Warner Bros UK has recruited its first group of Warner Bros Creative Talent scholars, apprentices and trainees. The inaugural selection of young people will benefit from funding support and gain industry insight and experience across Warner Bros’ UK film, TV, games and theatre operations.
This year’s investment includes 11 scholarships at higher education institutions and six apprenticeships with roles ranging from set-lighting to post-production.
It also includes two trainee positions on Warner Bros’ UK film productions, Guy Ritchie’s Man from U.N.C.L.E. and Ron Howard’s Heart of the Sea.
In addition, there are 25, year-long training course places at inclusive theatre company, Chickenshed; 20 work experience places for schools local to Warner Bros’ London HQ; and five work placements on the West End musical, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, with the most talented of the students receiving...

Warner Bros UK Gears Up For Creative Talent Initiative Warner Bros UK has recruited its first group of scholars, apprentices and trainees for the inaugural season of Warner Bros Creative Talent. The first selection will participate in the program to gain industry insight and work experience across Warner’s UK film, TV, games and theater operations. The initiative is part of Warner Bros’ long-term commitment to the UK’s creative industries. BAFTA has announced the ten UK recipients of its BAFTA Scholarship Programme, which assists students in need of financial support to study a post-graduate course in film, television or games.
Three students will receive the programme’s first Prince William Scholarships, supported by BAFTA and Warner Bros.
Each BAFTA Scholar will receive up to $16,000 (£10,000) towards their course fees for a year and mentoring support from BAFTA members.
The Prince William Scholarship recipients, who were named today as Rienkje Attoh from Crystal Palace in London, Sam Coleman from Ibstone in Buckinghamshire, and Sam Hughes from Hockley in Essex – will have their fees funded by Warner Bros. and will get a short funded work placement within the Warner Bros. group of companies and access to additional Warner Bros. mentors.
