Wondrium has ordered 12 episodes of an interior design instructional series hosted by designer Jonathan Adler. The series, produced by Wondrium, will debut globally in the streaming service in 2022.
The untitled project, with a title to come, will feature Adler “illustrating the basic rules of design, and then how to break them,” the service said. “Through his own work, muses, and other world examples, the series will introduce new and modern approaches to interior design, with the goal of boosting confidence in all designers, at any skill level.”
Adler, who began his design career in pottery, first came to fame in the 1990s when Barneys bought his collection of pots, leading to a store in Soho. Soon Adler branched into more home design and today Jonathan Adler is an interior design brand with stores worldwide and a full slate of residential and commercial projects.

Robert Rodriguez famously made his first feature, “El Mariachi” (1993), for $7,000, and in the years since he’s made a point, rather charmingly, of staying in touch with that DIY side of himself. This first became apparent in the early 2000s, when he churned out three “Spy Kids” films in a row, working out of a home studio where he wrote, directed, edited, and shot these cheeky Bondian kiddie flicks with a gizmoid invention as airy and frictionless as the films’ homegrown FX — but in a way it all played as a sly poke at Hollywood becoming a big-budget toy factory. The joke still had a tinge of resonance in “The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D” (2005), a superhero lark that had the benefit of coming out three years before “Iron Man” — that is, before the culture became so inundated with comic-book mythology that it began to wink at its own top-heavy escapism.

Break out your paint swatches: “Design Star” is returning to HGTV as the new series “Design Star: Next Gen.”
Premiering in 2021, the six-episode series will be hosted by Allison Holker Boss and judged by Jonathan Adler, designer Lauren Makk (she’s on the left in the above photo of the trio) and a “rotating cast of celebrity experts,” HGTV told TheWrap.
One of the eight finalists, who the cable channel says consists of “talented designers, renovators and social media brand-builders,” will win $50,000 and their own HGTV show.
“Design Star: Next Gen” will be shot in what HGTV is referring to as an isolated “design hub” community away from typical production locations.
Yeah, that’s what is known as a “bubble” these days.
“We wanted to reinvent the show, and although Covid gave us new restrictions, we would have likely gone in this direction either way because it makes for good programming and storytelling,...

The Writers Guild of America has just announced the nominations for their annual awards for Best Screenplays (by writers who are guild signatories). That’s right, before you get nervous thinking that your favorite may have been left off the list, you must remember that the WGA is the group that is not all-inclusive and leaves out several of the top contenders each year due to them not being part of the guild or not following their very specific rules. For this reason, you won’t see Inside Out, The Hateful Eight, and Ex Machina in the Original Screenplay category or Room, Brooklyn, or Anomalisa in the Adapted screenplay category.
Taking a look at what’s left over for the nominations, we find many that were expected to make a showing, including Spotlight and Bridge of Spies for Original Screenplay, though they apparently had to sink to really low depths...
