Before the 2020s, film archivists' worst nightmares were digital degradation or the simple loss of film reels. Now, streaming services have created a new one for them: the purging of original movies and series without a physical release.
HBO Max has been a leading culprit, but Disney+ isn't blameless either. This is, after all, the same company that used to place its movies in the "Disney Vault" during the reign of physical media. It had previously been confirmed that the service would be removing 50 titles on May 26, 2023, including "Willow," "Big Shot," and "Y: The Last Man." However, it's been discovered that another title was unexpectedly included in the purge: "Marvel's Runaways," which is now no longer listed on Hulu or Disney+ (in the U.S. or internationally).
Nominally set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, "Runaways" adapted the eponymous comic first created by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Aphona. Both the...

Another live-action Marvel series bites the dust. Hulu has announced that Marvel's Runaways TV show won't have a fourth season. Season three, comprised of 10 episodes, will end the series and be released on Friday, December 13th. Hopefully, it won't leave fans of the show with a cliffhanger.
Marvel's Cloak & Dagger series was recently cancelled on Freeform after two seasons. The main characters from that show, Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph), will have their final appearance on Runaways in a crossover event.

It's time to say goodbye to Marvel's Runaways.
Hulu has announced the superhero drama will wrap with it's upcoming third season, which will span ten episodes.
"In an action-packed Season 3, the Runaways frantically search for their captured friends Chase, Gert, and Karolina," reads the official logline.
"The kids go head to head with an unstoppable enemy who has targeted Leslie — or more accurately, the child she’s carrying."
"Nico draws them all into a dark realm where its ruler Morgan le Fay, played by Elizabeth Hurley, is much more nefarious than anyone the kids have yet to face."

Hulu has good news and bad news for all you “Marvel’s Runaways” fans. The good: The Season 3 trailer finally dropped on Monday. The bad: The video revealed the upcoming episodes, which will be released on Dec. 13, will be the show’s last.
An individual with knowledge of the streaming service’s decision to end the Marvel series says that creatively, the series had “come to a natural ending point” and that Hulu felt this was “the right way and time” to complete the Runaways’ journey.

The live-action Marvel series “Runaways” is ending with its upcoming season on Hulu, Variety has learned.
The show, which is based on the Marvel comics series of the same name, is set to debut its third season on Dec. 13. That season will now serve as the show’s finale. According to an individual close to the series, the creative team felt that the third season provided a natural ending point for the show.
It is worth nothing, however, that “Runaways” was one of the few remaining live-action shows under the Marvel Television umbrella as set up by Jeph Loeb. With the end of “Runaways,” the only remaining live-action shows under Loeb’s purview are “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D,” which will end with its upcoming seventh season on ABC, and “Helstrom,” another Hulu series that recently set its main cast. Hulu is staging a superhero team-up of epic proportions.
It has been announced that the Runaways will be getting some assistance from Cloak & Dagger's Tandy and Tyrone during the upcoming third season of the hit series.
“You’ve all been asking for this and we’ve heard you loud and clear. So we made it happen,” the Runaways cast revealed in the video below, confirming the news.
It's unclear how the different groups will cross paths, but still, this is great news for fans of both Marvel dramas, especially given that Cloak & Dagger has yet to be renewed for a third season.
The show experienced a big dip in the ratings, with the sophomore run averaging around 355k viewers and 0.12 rating in the demo.

Hulu has released a teaser trailer for Marvel’s third season of The Runaways, and they’ve announced that the series will premiere on December 13th!
I’ve really enjoyed what Marvel has done with this series. I’ve enjoyed the characters they’ve brought to life and the story that is being told with them. I have no idea how long this show will last, but I’m glad that it’s getting at least one more season. I can’t wait to see how this story will play out.

Morgan le Fay is best known as the less-than-stellar student of the great Wizard Merlin. She first appeared in Sir Thomas Malory's 1485 page-turner Le Morte d'Arthur, as King Arthur's half sister and mother to one of his children. She is the lady who threw the sword Excalibur in the lake.

Elizabeth Hurley will be bringing some dark magic to Marvel’s Runaways on Hulu in the Season 3 role of Morgan Le Fey, a sorceress with considerable history and even greater power.
The Royals actress will be taking on the role of a character that dates back to 1955 in the lore of Marvel Comics (then still known as Atlas Comics). The character made her debut in The Black Knight issue No. 1, which introduced the nefarious Le Fey as the scheming half-sister of King Arthur of Camelot and a high priestess born with faerie heritage.
That 1955 issue was written by Marvel Comics icon Stan Lee, who imported Le Fey’s name and persona from the classic Arthurian legends that mesmerized him as a child. Black Knight issue No. 1 was illustrated by Joe Maneely, who is credited as the character’s co-creator along with Lee.

After Hulu danced around answering whether or not Marvel’s Runways would be returning for a third season, actor James Marsters just revealed the news that the comic book series has been renewed.
Marsters broke the news at Lexington Comic & Toy Con this weekend. While on a panel, Marsters, who stars as Victor Stein and Jonah in the series, whispered into the mic that “the showrunner just told the cast that we’re in for a third season!”
He later lamented, “I probably just broke all kinds of Marvel rules.”
He probably did. Shortly after a video of his remarks hit the Internet, Hulu confirmed that Marvel’s Runaways has been renewed for a 10-episode third season. (Get all the details here.)

Marvel’s Runaways looks set to return to Hulu for a third season after the digital platform’s content chief Craig Erwich praised the performance of the comic book adaptation.
The show’s 13-episode second season launched on December 21, 2018 and it seems likely that there’ll be another run this year.
“We’re really happy with the performance of Runaways, both creatively and in terms of its performance, and we’ll have an announcement shortly,” Erwich said, speaking Monday during Hulu’s session at TCA.
The second season of the Josh Schwartz- and Stephanie Savage-produced series saw the Runaways leaving their home and their evil parents behind and learning to live on their own. It showed them scavenging for food and searching for shelter.
The show stars Rhenzy Feliz, Lyrica Okano, Virginia Gardner, Ariela Barer, Gregg Sulkin, Allegra Acosta, Annie Wersching, Ryan Sands, Angel Parker, Ever Carradine, James Marsters,...

“Marvel’s Runaways,” in its return to Hulu for a second season, launched with the advantage of a great premise: What if a group of teenagers found out that their parents were supervillains? It’s an idea loaded with both emotional weight as well as huge narrative potential, but creators Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz, facing 13 episodes instead of 10, unfortunately chose to err on the side of plot.
This wasn’t the case last time. The first season of “Runaways” was by and large set-up for the larger story — which is another way of saying that the eponymous characters didn’t actually get around to running away until the final moments of the season finale. But that time was spent on thoroughly developing their dynamics, creating a show that was far more teen soap than superhero drama, in all the best ways.

The cast of Runaways is eager for more action, and it sounds like they'll be living it in Season 2.
It wasn’t until the very end of Runaways Season 1 that Alex Wilder (Rhenzy Feliz), Nico Minoru (Lyrica Okano), Karolina Dean (Virginia Gardner), Gert Yorkes (Ariela Barer), Chase Stein (Gregg Sulkin) and Molly Hernandez (Allegra Acosta) made good on the show's title.
Before that pivotal moment, when these disparate teenagers discovered that their villainous parents had framed them for murder, series co-creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage had spent most of the season’s time laying the groundwork for the group’s eventual escape. It’s a common method showrunners will use to adapt comic books for television (see the first season of AMC’s Preacher), and while it may tax the patience of some viewers, it often pays off in the long run.
Hence Runaways Season 2, which premieres Friday,...

At New York Comic Con a new cast member was announced for the second season of Marvel’s Runaways: Topher, a fan-favorite character known for his crafty, streetwise persona, will be portrayed by Jan Luis Castellanos.
The actor shared a quote through Marvel: “I’m super grateful to be joining the Marvel/Hulu Runaways family. It has been a dream come true. Topher is a tough and complicated kid, and it was very exciting to bring him to life.”
Topher is a survivor with a dark secret in the comics — he’s a vampire not to be trusted — but the character may be taken in a different direction on the acclaimed Hulu series, which many fans regard as one of the most satisfying of the many Marvel-based shows currently underway.

“They’re our parents … how can they be such monsters?” Nico says in the new trailer for the second season of Marvel’s Runaways. The spell-casting goth played by Lyrica Okano is part of a group of teens with superpowers who, in the first season of the Hulu comic book series, found out that their parents are part of a cult-like villainous group called Pride.

Season 2 of Marvel’s Runaways picks up almost immediately where the first season left off, with the runaway teens now on their own, taking refuge in an underground hostel, and having to fend for themselves. “It’s going to accelerate. We are now running with our kids,” said Ep and showrunner Josh Schwartz during a TCA set visit. “Our focus shifts to these kids and trying to survive in the streets… there’s a greater sense of tension and momentum in keeping with where we are in this part of the story.”

Marvel’s Runaways is making a run from Hulu to Freeform. The angsty teenage comic series is set to make its broadcast bow with its first season episode after the season finale of Cloak and Dagger on Aug. 2, Deadline has confirmed.
The debut of Runaways on Freeform marks the second Marvel show on the Disney-ABC owned network, the first being the aforementioned Cloak and Dagger. The airing of the first episode Runaways is part of Freeform’s ongoing marketing partnership with Hulu. No word yet on whether additional episodes will air on the network.
The news comes shortly after Disney and 21st Century Fox shareholders overwhelmingly approved the merger between the companies first proposed last December. The merger also includes Disney’s acquisition of Fox’s 30% stake in Hulu. Freeform is owned by the Disney–ABC Television Group, which is a division of The Walt Disney Company.
