3.10 Legion Of Superheroes
At the end of the midseason finale, Supergirl was defeated by Reign in a spectacular and violent fashion. Reign did serious damage, both to Supergirl herself, who spends most of this episode in a coma, and to the city, which seems panicked and demoralised after Supergirl’s defeat and absence.
If you were hoping to meet the whole Legion tonight, you were disappointed—the rest of the crew is still in stasis in their ship. Since we had already met Mon-El and his wife, Imra Adeen, that means we really only met one new character, making this episode title a bit of an oversell. It’s still great...

Monday’s Supergirl introduced us to our second favorite blue-skinned television character named Brainy. (Sorry, but Smurfs always come first at TVLine.)
“Brainy,” as it turns out, is Mon-El and Imra’s nickname for Brainiac 5, the third member of the Legion of Super-Heroes tasked with entering Kara’s subconscious and waking the Girl of Steel from her Reign-induced coma. As a defense mechanism, Kara’s brain concealed her in her safe place, a recreation of the enormous loft she somehow manages to afford on a junior reporter’s salary.

Mon-El’s new bride was thrilled to meet Kara on the fall finale of Supergirl. Too bad the feeling was… less than mutual.

“Your wife is lovely,” Kara told her bearded ex through clenched teeth during an awkward run-in — one mercifully cut short by a call from the prison. Kara’s old pal Thomas Coville (Chad Lowe, ‘member him?) was spouting some crazy prophecies from his cell, and not from the Book of Rao. “Kara Danvers, there is so much that you still don’t know,” he told her.

With Thomas Coville in "The Faithful," Supergirl proved that a villain doesn't necessarily need to be evil or alien to come off as a real threat. In this episode, titled "Damage," Supergirl continues with the notion of human threats as Adrian Pasdar's Morgan Edge returns. However, while Edge might be human, that's about the only thing he shares with Coville. Quickly into the episode, Edge comes off as an evil scumbag. It's an impression that only grows stronger, for better or worse (but mostly worse), as the episode reaches its conclusion.

Supergirl had a rocky start in season 1 but in season 2 and beyond it has given fans some of the best the Arrowverse, and superhero TV in general, has to offer. However Supergirl has always been lacking in one rather major area: the show has yet to really settle on or introduce a solid villain. This was until "The Faithful," when Thomas Coville, played by guest star Chad Lowe, made his appearance. It became clear very quickly that Coville wasn't only the best Supergirl villain yet but it's unclear if he can ever really return.

Do you think Chad Lowe ever imagined himself donning a flowy white shirt, standing before a crowded room and declaring, “In the name of Supergirl, our savior, we give thanks”? Because it happened.

TV’s Byron Montgomery guest-starred in Monday’s Supergirl as Thomas Coville, the leader of a religion cult devoted to the Girl of Steel. And while his intentions may have been pure, his methods — convincing people to throw themselves in harm’s way in order to be “saved” by Supergirl — were a little wonky.

After being forced to endure the long summer hiatus, we can now rest easy as each of our favorite DC shows have finally returned with a round of spectacular premieres. And now that the fall season is in full swing, we continue looking ahead, this time at episodes of Supergirl and Arrow set to air during Halloween week.
First, on Monday, October 30, Supergirl begins charting what’ll be surely be a strange journey for Odette Annable’s character of Samantha. Casually introduced to us in the season 3 premiere, we know that the seemingly average woman will go on to become Reign, this year’s big bad. Truth be told, the unassuming villain is something we’ve yet to see from this series, so we could have some great television ahead of us.
Continuing on that note, we also can’t help but draw parallels to Smallville‘s Davis Bloome, who was played by Sam Witwer.
