Some people say all good things must end, and that is the case for Apple and Skydance Animation, who say they’re parting ways. While this is disappointing news, a silver lining remains. Apple is continuing its partnership with Skydance Media, with plans to work together on live-action film and television projects. The parting comes after the union’s multi-year deal ends. As a parting gift (of sorts), Skydance Animation keeps Spellbound, Vicky Jenson’s animated fantasy epic starring Rachel Zegler, Nicole Kidman, John Lithgow, Nathan Lane, Jenifer Lewis, and Javier Bardem, to name a few.
Skydance Animation is likely to find a new home quickly, perhaps with a studio more interested in producing animated projects instead of epics like Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. Thankfully, Skydance Media remains in a good place with Apple as new and existing projects like Foundation, The Big Door Prize, and...

That didn’t take long. Skydance Animation has found a new home, signing a multi-year agreement with Netflix to develop and produce animated movies to be released directly on Netflix. This deal means Skydance’s full existing animated feature slate will be released exclusively on Netflix.
Deal comes as a multi-year pact with Apple comes to an end. Skydance Animation is already staked with Netflix, and the deal expands on a number of different projects. The first new one is Spellbound, a film that began its road at Apple, but will now debut on Netflix in 2024. That will be followed by Pookoo in 2025.
This deal expands on the existing relationship between the two companies who have already partnered on a number of projects including the films The Adam Project, Heart of Stone, The Old Guard, and Spy Kids: Armageddon along with the series Fubar, Altered Carbon and Grace and Frankie.

Caitriona Balfe in ‘Outlander’ season 7 episode 1 (Photo Credit: Starz)
After a year-long Droughtlander, Starz’s Outlander season seven episode one leaps right into the action, with Claire (Caitriona Balfe) being hung as a murderer. Of course, that doesn’t really happen. Unfortunately for Jamie (Sam Heughan), it’s a vision that’s haunting his every waking minute since being forcibly separated from the love of his life.
Jamie feels deep in his bones that Claire is still alive and is committed to finding her. With Young Ian (John Bell) at his side, nothing will stop the determined Scot from reuniting with the missing piece of his heart.
Claire’s indeed alive and doing as well as can be expected, given that she’s locked up in a Wilmington jail. Margit Tolliver (Liza Sadovy) is in charge of the jail, and she lays down the basic rules of the facility. Claire...

Few actors are as iconic as William Shatner. The legendary performer is, of course, best known as Captain James T. Kirk from the original Star Trek film and television series. But even fans who have followed his work for decades might know too much about Shatner’s personal life. For instance, he and Elizabeth Martin reunited years after finalizing their divorce.
William Shatner has done a lot more than ‘Star Trek’
Casual fans, again, probably know Shatner best for Star Trek. But the actor has worked on way more film and television projects than some people may realize.
On TV, he starred in the popular police drama T.J. Hooker in the 1980s and won two Emmy Awards for his scene-stealing role as Denny Crane on Boston Legal. Plus, he’s hosted countless TV shows, including Rescue 911.

Exclusive: The partnership between Apple Original Films and Skydance Media looks to be building on its already-strong slate with another A-list star at the center of it. Sources tell Deadline that Apple has landed The Family Plan, an action-comedy feature from Skydance starring Mark Wahlberg, with Simon Cellan Jones directing.
The film will reunite Wahlberg with Jones following their collaboration on the upcoming Arthur the King.
Written by David Coggeshall, The Family Plan tells the story of a suburban dad who must take his family on the run when his past catches up to him. Municipal Pictures’ Stephen Levinson and Wahlberg will produce with Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger.
Wahlberg continues to be one of the town’s busiest stars and started his year off with Uncharted, which also starred Tom Holland and grossed more than 400 million worldwide. He followed that up with the Sony Pictures...

Disney has shared a first look at 'Mulan,' the live-action adaptation of its 1998 animated film.
The picture shows Yifei Liu, star of 'The Forbidden Kingdom' and 'Once Upon a Time,' who was cast as Hua Mulan following a yearlong global casting search.

The film will shoot on locations in New Zealand and China and will open in U.S. theaters on March 27, 2020.
The cast also includes Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, and Yoson An, who is currently in theaters with 'The Meg.'
'Mulan' is being directed by Niki Caro ('Whale Rider,' 'McFarland USA') from a screenplay by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver ('Jurassic World'), and Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek.
Disney’s animated 'Mulan' starred Ming-Na Wen, Miguel Ferrer, and Eddie Murphy and was nominated for an Oscar and two Golden Globes.

Two studios are looking to make some Mulan moolah. Both Disney and Sony are developing live-action adaptations of the ancient Chinese ballad about a young woman who disguises herself as a man to take her father's place in the army. After the success of its live-action Cinderella ($543.5 million worldwide), Disney (which made 1998's animated version) began developing a live-action take on Mulan in early 2015. The studio bought a spec script by Lauren Hynek and Elizabeth Martin, then hired Jurassic World's Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver to rewrite. Insiders say the studio liked the rewrite

Update: The folks over at The Vulture reached out to one of their sources close to the production, and were met with the following response regarding this rumor:
“The spec script [mentioned in the original story below] was a jumping-off point for a new take on the story that draws from both the literary ballad of Mulan and Disney’s 1998 animated film… Mulan is and will always be the lead character in the story, and all primary roles, including the love interest, are Chinese.”
In short, the poster mentioned below was not inaccurate when they said the spec script they read had a white male, but Disney has supposedly since changed the script to include a full Chinese cast.

Disney first announced its interest in a live-action Mulan remake way back in March of last year, but now THR brings word that the film has a release date: November 2, 2018.
The good news: Disney is launching a global casting search for a Chinese actress to play the lead role. That's a refreshing change of pace when Hollywood seems content to whitewash parts left and right and trot out the excuse that they can only get movies greenlit if they have established stars in the leading roles.
Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek wrote the original spec script, and the studio has hired Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Avatar 2 and 3) to rewrite the film's screenplay into "a more nuanced and elaborate adaptation" which combines "the legendary Chinese ballad and the 1998 animated film." No director has been announced yet, so we'll keep you posted with...

From The Craft and The Birds to The Fugitive and She's All That, the many film reboots and remakes currently in the works...
Over the years that Den Of Geek has been going, we've regularly been charting the assortment of reboots and remakes that are making their way through the Hollywood system. As Cinderella becomes Disney's latest live action box office hit, the studio is planning a new take on Mulan...
Just a very quick update here. We've heard no more on this version of Mulan since we first reported it in March 2015. But there is now a competing project at Sony...
Right. If we're following this correctly, then Disney is currently working on live action takes on Beauty And The Beast, The Jungle Book, Dumbo (with Tim Burton apparently attached to direct) and a new Alice In Wonderland movie. Throw in the Cruella de Vil film too that's somewhere in development, and that's at least five live action movies it's got on the go, that have a grounding in one of its animated films.
Actually, make that six.
